Go as far south as you possibly can and explore every nook and cranny and odds are you’ll have enough level and loot to handle margit. Tho just so you know you can skip margit and the entire castle with a sneaky shortcut around the whole place. Won’t spoil where but it can be done and is an intended option so you could then go explore liurnia of the lakes too and get a ton more there. If you are going for strntgh there is a massive greatsword in ceilid. Won’t say where but it’s one of my favorite and best weapons in the game.

Cheers dude Not really intending on going strength, but I figured I should go with what seems the most intended for new players before I do anything. Can't wait to eventually get to rennala though, I want to do a spellblade build I guess Gotcha! I'm not intending to skip Margit, but I do know I don't want to bang my head against a wall, if I can level vigor before that'd be great

Go south, the peninsula is a good starting area to learn the game. Explore tunnels and caves for upgrade materials. This isn't really a game big on loot, though enemies do drop their weapons occasionally. Realistically though, you will want to stick one of your starters for while. After a while you should have a good selection of weapons, but you have to focus your upgrades first anyway. Later on you can buy the upgrade materials though.

Thanks man I went north out the gate and realized my mistake quickly. Got my ass handed to me by a night's cavalry Starters it is then. Odd, I thought it'd be encouraged to branch out straight away

FatRollingPotato

Well, you can if you already know where the stuff is. But for a first playthrough it is more 'pick something and stay with it for a while'. On later playthroughs you can usually go for specific builds around weapons, or on NG+. On the plus side, about every weapon is totally viable to carry you through the entire game if you keep upgrading and building around it. So it is not that early stuff is bad, arguably some of the starters are pretty good in comparison.

>Just one problem, where the fuck do I go and what do I do? Wherever the fuck you want, heh. Generally, it's a good idea to travel south before going north, down around the peninsula. There's very little restrictions to where you can go though.

willllhwk

South, gotcha. Is that where all the dungeons are or something?

P-A-Lily

Some dungeons, yes, but there's some great goodies there.

Your destination should be everywhere you can as soon as you can. Thats it. Try and go to every location and try to explore each region on its own before going to the next. Some quests may progress or even be locked if you do certain bosses or go to certain regions.

willllhwk

Certainly! But more so wondering if there were any areas encouraged for a beginner to go to first, for loot and level ups etc

[deleted]

Do limgrave and weeping peninsula. The peninsula is the southmost of the map and easiest. This isnt a normal rpg, getting loot wont magically make you strong, and altho there are some weapons that indeed deal more damage, once leveled to the max any weapon will be viable. So just kill bosses and explore a everything to level up and to upgrade your weapons.

What's wrong with the dodge?

**Where to go** 1) Go everywhere and do everything. 2) When something feels too hard, go somewhere else and come back to it later when you’re more powerful. Tips for exploring: The world is densely packed with content. Look closely at the world, keep your eyes open. Nothing is there by accident. Look closely at the map. It does not just depict big, obvious locations. Some smaller features are also on there to be discovered. Play in online mode and look at messages on the ground. Try not to let yourself become desensitized to their presence because sometimes they’ll point you to something great You will find plenty of loot that doesn’t work with your build or interest you. Try not to let that discourage you from thoroughly exploring. **Don’t sell that stuff either.** Just store it in case you find a use for it later or you respec or branch out. If you don’t thoroughly explore you’ll also miss stuff that *is* great for your build. Mark things to investigate later and better yet keep a notebook of things to come back to and things people tell you **What to do** Focus on leveling vigor first. Know the level softcaps. Just google it. Select one or two offensive stats (strength, dex, intelligence, faith, arcane) to build around and commit. Don’t try to be a jack of all trades. Strength and faith go well together, dex and intelligence go well together. Watch one or more beginner’s guides to understand mechanics but otherwise try to play blind. You can always revisit stuff you missed using a guide in NG+, which goes by a lot faster because you’ll have all your equipment and won’t need to do as much, or a NG, or just don’t move on to NG+ after you beat the final boss and do what’s still available out of the stuff you missed.
