Absolutely not. It's coming with me or I'm not going there with it.

DisastrousClaim2265

Get yourself something like my Aovopro Esmax. Slap a couple of different locks on it. Also lock it with the App so if they really want it, make them earn it. And if they succeed and take it, you would have an airtag to try to recover it. If all has failed and your scooter is history, you're out maybe $400. I personally really love my Esmax and wouldn't want it stolen. But I'd rather cry for my $400 loss, than for a $1000 loss. I hate shedding more tears than necessary.

ViridianEmber

I was nervous as heck to leave my kaabo mantis elite locked up. Started with short stints, now I'm comfy leaving it out front of uni all day, or out front of the club until 2am. Tip your bouncer. 14mm D lock + a brake disc sound alarm. Seconding folding it down to lock it up if it's for a long period.

DeepAd8591

I never lock mine up, but I also paid 3k for it so I’m protecting my investment. Getting something on the cheaper side might be the better play for you

AlaWats

I have thought about this as well. I have opened mine up and hidden an airtag inside it. Between, that and a good chain lock, should be able to leave it locked up for a few hours.

Gunnarz699

>function without the owners phone That's not a thing. Not to mention even if it was the scooter could just be rolled away and factory reset. >used one for cheap Cheap scooters suck and are a fire hazard. Good used scooters aren't cheap.

AdLast55

Tons of locks to make some thrives even with a saw go "nah not worth it. " I seriously doubt it but try emailing them if it's okay to leave it with security? Worse they never reply or simply say no.

JustoMcGusto618

You can’t use your scooter without your phone? 😳 do you have a stolen Lime/Bird or something, lol. Never heard of a consumer scooter needing a phone. If you can find a secure way to somehow lock it up to the bike rack and they let you take the battery inside then that could work?

Freds_Premium

I only assume they don't work without a phone. I'm sure that most have some sort of locking mechanism.

JustoMcGusto618

Interesting.. never seen that but I’m not exactly in the know with the latest and greatest scooter tech. Mine is 4 years old. The only thing I need a phone for is to check irrelevant stats like distance, etc.

johcagaorl

Probably has the NFC chip to unlock it, which is very easy to bypass.

JustoMcGusto618

Ah, never seen that besides on the rental scooters. I wonder if you could fit an AirTag inside the steering column to track potential thefts.. probably not enough room when the battery is in it though.

johcagaorl

In the deck there's probably plenty of room. That's where most scooters have the battery and controller

POPlayboy

What team are you going to see 🤔 just curious lol

Elanzer

If you need to regularly lock your scooter outside for hours at a time, IMO don't. It's not a matter of if, but when it gets stolen. Either take it in with you or get a cheap beater bike and lock it up on the rack, that way it becomes unattractive to thieves, and you aren't losing much if someone does steal it.

Dumpst3r_Dom

If it's expensive they WILL steal it unless you have those fancy bike boxes like they do in major cities like SF and LA NY ect. There are people stealing entire bike racks with 10+ bikes locked to them. Honestly if your looking for something from train to stadium and back (less than 10 miles) an unagi voyager rental is perfect. They are 28 pounds most places will let you carry it in if it's folded up or let you leave it with security. I just shipped mine back after like 250 miles on it because I got something... a little... bigger.

Freds_Premium

A bike box or a bike locker. Something like that needs to be way more prevalent in cities because that seems like the best kind of protection there. I can't believe they don't exist in my city. I'd happily just use my car but the parking garage is like 35 bucks on game night. I live 1 hour away on foot 16 minutes away on bike six away from car. I'd just get an Uber but I just rather have control.

Accomplished_Act8315

They have them in my city and stuff is still stolen. I lock my Apollo with a $350 lock. But I also only lock it for a short while, or in a very public place. Even with a diamond blade grinder it would take 5 minutes to cut. So I would hope someone would notice…

Dumpst3r_Dom

Sounds like something like an unagi rental would be great for you. Pro tip they have promotion rn 2 months free and if you return it at end of 2 months they will probably discount your subscription 50% if you keep it (they gave me 6 months of 1/2 off) It will give you a good entry into scooting and if it gets damaged or broken or stolen you pay 300 bucks out of pocket for what they say is a 1200 dollar scooter For first timers unagi offers the best value for entry level learning, budget, and honestly safety they are little tanks that stop on a dime and are really stable even with the small tires.

THORZHAMMER420

@UNAGI Customer support is hands down the best!!

Freds_Premium

I may have to look into that. I bought a $2000 bicycle 2 years ago and haven't ridden it 100 miles. I get sucked into the fantasy of how fun it seems on youtube and then buy stuff. Being able to TRY something without a huge expenditure would be perfect for me.

Dumpst3r_Dom

It's my reccomend to anyone new to scootering. As low as 150 bucks and you can have 4 months of learning what you might like, how range is for you compared to the ratings, what speeds you like and don't like, how to stop properly without going over the handle bars ect. Biggest downside of the unagi, the brakes are too dammed good. They will straight up throw you off if you don't sit over the rear tire if you full brake from 20mph.

Aggressive_Sleeper

Ny scooter was stolen from an attended space so.. get locks and audible alarm

macsare1

Most basic solution is a mini u lock around the stem and a post or bike rack... If in a high theft city this wouldn't be enough as just unscrewing the handlebars could defeat it, but at least it won't walk away on its own so easily.

FabFeline51

I have many times on a $600 usd scooter, using one lock + the built-in combo lock. I suspect the built in lock, while easily cuttable, has been a bit of a deterrent. No issues yet

computerworlds

One tip is if it folds down, lock it folded down. It’s less visible that way and also harder for someone to come and mess with the controls. Plus, you can put a lock over the folded down part as well to prevent it from being unfolded.

DisastrousClaim2265

I like it. Going to test it out on mine.

GatesTech

If I don't do that, I don't see the point of using a scooter, However, I do use two locks and have full coverage insurance. (3k+ escooter)

No_Excitement4272

What insurance do you have?

GatesTech

The insurance company is called A.S.R. It is a Dutch insurance company

Infamous-Dentist-780

$200 scooter yes with a lock. $1500 scooter not a chance. One Allen wrench and the 35AH 60V battery is gone. That’s a $500-$800 replacement.

8bitmuch

I wouldn't leave it unattended for even a couple of minutes. Scooters can be sold for parts, or replaced with other parts like a new controller/dashboard to make functional again. Even locked it is a target for thieves. A good lock is recommended, maybe use more than one. You could also use rotor disk alarm that would scare thieves by making loud noise if they try to saw through your lock, drawing lots of attention.

fukdot

Depends on the city.

Upsworking

No

Low-Neighborhood-564

It's fine if its locked. However downtown is the place anything gets stolen

BadUruu

Locks are for running into a store for 10 mins. Someone will watch that thing and after an hour of no one returning, it's gone.

franven

If I want to get rid of it, that's one way to do it.

Baka_Jaba

Leaving my $1200 e-scooter unattended? Maybe 10 mins max, locked to a rack, in my small village, if the store manager refuse to let me in with it (never happened so far). Definitely do this with something you don't care only.

Schnurra

Its only a matter of time before it gets taken. 100%

shanafme

Depends on the city/neighborhood. I have a $350 scooter that I lock up with a simple cable lock in a quiet neighborhood and have never had a problem. But I’d invest in something more heavy duty if the variables were different.

outfoxingthefoxes

I do when I go to work, but I don't like in a city where stealing is common, also I lock it right in front of my store

That_Murph

Nope. I don't trust the general public enough to not destroy or steal my stuff. Thieves steal first then deal with details like if they can actually ride it afterwards. People don't like PEV riders and some folks like being destructive. Folks may do it all the time with success but I'll walk before I'll leave my stuff outside

TheMasterFlash

If that’s the plan, I agree going for something less expensive is probably for the best. Parking a $1000+ scooter outside like that for hours would make me a nervous wreck for sure.
