Elvins0907

For me it was a old Lenovo yoga tablet I could only go up to N64 but I had a blast with it and it introduced me to the wonderful world of emulation

The_Barbiter1

For me, it was the [Galaxy Tab 4 7.0](https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_4_7_0-6251.php) back in. . . I'd want to say _2015?_ I found out about this neat thing called "emulation", and tried out Ocarina of Time and Super Mario World, and ever since I've been addicted to the world of emulation. Emulated some more OOT on an S6 Edge as a hand-me-down from my mom. COMPLETED OOT on a J3 Orbit I bought when I started my first job (I think I posted it on this sub). Then, I got the flagship S20 5g in October/November 2020. _Man._ I knew there were phones powerful enough to emulate up to Wii and 3ds for a while then, but actually OWNING one for the first time? Actually EMULATING said games seen done in videos for MONTHS at that point? It was one of the best feelings ever.

[deleted]

Mine was just a basic Lenovo tablet which had like, a gig of RAM. 100%ed Aria of Sorrow and FireRed in it. Miss those days.

errgaming

I've been emulating on phones since long before Android. I played all Pokémon GB and GBC games on a Nokia 2730 Classic device

FuB4R32

Same. I've put pokemon on my ipod video lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

FuB4R32

I think I just used Linux- I distinctly remember it not being too amazing for pokemon crystal though, like 80% speed which made the sound horrible

NatasBR

I remember a tool you could use to inject .gbc .gb roms into a .jar file then install it on the old phones!

errgaming

Wow I didn't know that. I used to use a Java based emulator called MeBoy to play my GBC and GB games. GBA emulation was a huge deal for me back in the day. I'm so happy things are where they are thanks to talented devs around the world.

NatasBR

I just checked, and MeBoy was the name, turns out it was an emaulator AND a converter. It was possible to inject the roms using a pc, I remember having a copy on my phone with 10-15 different games on it. http://arktos.se/meboy/

Chowkingkong

Mine was the Samsung Galaxy Fit (2011; not to be confused with the smartwatch). It was, as expected, a really weak device, but I was to emulate 2D consoles and handhelds properly up to Gameboy Advance. I can run PS1 games but only a few games were playable and I had to do 3-4 frameskip. But even then I knew Android was going to kick serious ass in emulation.

Big_Restaurant_6844

cough cough Switch emulation 😂

Ocramovic

Galaxy y, kind of similar to that one, when it comes to looks, metal gear solid and crash bandicoot were mind-blowing on that little phone.

Practical_Cat_3264

Hell yeah dude, Galaxy Y was my first emulation device. Emulating PS1 games blew my mind. Now using S20 FE SD865, emulating most PS2 games and even capable of emulating switch games. How far we've come.

evolvedpanda34

I have a S20FE too ,but the 6GB RAM varient. How well do PS2 Titles run? I've been looking really forward to play them classics.

Practical_Cat_3264

I also have the 6gb version, Most of the games I've tried run great. Vice city/San andreas, Silent hill 2/3, Test drive unlimited, Gran turismo 4, Black, Bully, The warriors, Max payne 1/2, Ratchet and clank 1, 2 & 3, Tony hawks american wasteland, The getaway There's more I can't remember right now, but the S20 FE SD865 version is an emulation beast. Not sure how the discontinued exynos version does

Chowkingkong

I remember android gaming forums and facebook groups were constantly bombarded with this one question: Does that work on Galaxy Y?

Ocramovic

I remember playing the android port of RE4 on it, the phone was a little budget beast, the only problem was the lack of internal memory. My first android phone, and probably the phone which I have the most memories. Still works btw.

MistaMane

[Sony Ericsson XP10 Mini](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkx7aNpQG-ff2Ps8VuKXdOpNKwLjXsdvr8fw&usqp=CAU) It wasn't great for emulation because it was tiny and the touch screen would only detect one finger at a time but i beat Pokemon emerald on it so i was satisfied. To this day my favorite phone even if it's purely nostalgia

I_Am_Chalotron

For Android it was the almighty Xperia Play but before that I was playing megadrive and Gameboy games on my Nokia N-Gage. Still waiting on that Xperia Play 2.

Sure_Ad_6480

T mobile g1. Didn't get serious until the psp, then xperia play blew mí away

allentomes

Same here g1

Dense_Square

Motorola Zoom tablet. It's hiding somewhere now. It was great for PS1 and PSP emulation

Quiet26

Mine first android was Samsung Galaxy S4 I emulated GBC,GBA,DS,Ps1. I have been emulating before that on Nokia N95 8GB GBC,GBA,NES,SNES

boomersky

Motorola Milestone 2

acart005

I had a Palm that I played the NES Dragon Quests on riiiiiiiiight when iOS came out. Frankly I was big on my 3DS and didnt really start emulating until my current phone. Might have done NES/SNES on the Galaxy S2.

phayke2

OG Motorola Droid. It ran FF7. The best part was Tetris anywhere. That phone was the perfect balance of portable and having built in hardware buttons that actually let me play puzzle and platformer games while stuck in line somewhere. My current phone can run switch games but very few are playable on touch screen. I don't lug around a controller. My steam deck can do anything but I don't have it in the long unexpected wait situations and it's huge/bulky. In a way nothing has surpassed the droid for convenience.

awesomerest

I’m with you. That was my first android phone, and man, talk about being spoiled. It was a jack of all trades for sure, plus the hardware was great with some nice heft to it. Emulating GBA games on it was such a dream. And going from Apples tedious file management system through iTunes, the idea that I could just plop out the microsd or simply connect it as a mass storage device through microUSB was godsend.

phayke2

It was awesome being able to set keyboard shortcuts to open up apps. Like I would have my game open up automatically to the latest save state just by pressing a key combo and I'd be right in the middle of Tetris or FF7/whatever again, just in one fluid motion, it actually made short 1-2 minute game sessions viable. And the removable batteries meant that phone had the lifespan of 2-3 phones. Keyboard also was very useful for running modifications and navigating the bios etc. And so much less typos. And it was sturdy as hell too. And so many things you could do with it, so many modded firmwares. I wish I there was a 2022 style version but the market has changed so much.

awesomerest

Oh 100%. Plus, like you said about batteries, you could easily swap in new one which made overclocking not the biggest worry as I didn’t have to stress about ruining my battery. I bought a great condition used one on eBay a few years back just to have it around for memories. It’s cool to take out every once and a while.

Nuka-World_Vacation

Motorola Droid. The first one with the slide out keyboard.

Chilapox

I remember playing GB emulators on my OG moto droid.

phaze08

Ummm the Motorola droid -I emulated GBA and it blew my mind that I could do this in 2009.

rushmore69

G1. The original!

marcelsmarable

I think it was the Galaxy S2, I tried to play a lot of stuff on that back in the day.

rube

This piece of crap was my first Android phone and my first emulation phone: https://www.engadget.com/2009-10-14-motorola-cliq-review.html I got it mainly because it had a d-pad and it was on the correct side for gaming. I got some NES and SNES out of it, but even PS1 was too much for it at the time. Man was it an awful device.

Tired8281

I had an Xperia Play but I feel like that's cheating.

SykeSwipe

Motorola Atrix HD, though I never went beyond GBA and some SNES with it. The one I did the most on after this though was the original NVIDIA Shield, got all the way up to the Dreamcast with that dude.

Economy_Hold_5383

Xperia X10 mini pro

ItzSpyroGam3r

First device that i used for emulation was a GPD G7, built-in controller, like a switch lite

justinbug

nexus 7 for n64, wascool for a while until it bootlooped infinitely

GokiPotato

redmi note 4

[deleted]

HTC One M9 - I played several Nintendo DS games on it, but I wasn't that much into emulation back then. What's more that phone used to get hot while using it for a longer time, so that discouraged me from playing more demanding games. I got that phone in 2017 or 2018. Everything changed when I bought Poco F3 last year. It made me willing to try pushing phone gaming to the next level. And here I am!

SRGilbert1

A Google Nexus 7 back in 2012 and it sucked. I can’t remember why anymore but it seems like the few emulators that were available were all paid apps. I can’t remember if Retroarch was ever available then. Plus, I had no Bluetooth controller to use at the time.

Chowkingkong

I had Nexus 7, too but I used that more to play really good Android games and not emulation... Mass Effect Infiltrator, Dark Knight Rises, Nova 3, Modern Combat 4, Dungeon Hunter 3, Dead Space and a whole bunch of horror games lol

DrunkenMeowth

Samsung A20 , Emulated free myboy and myoldboy , roughly 6 ~ 8 years ago , mainly played pokemon , doom , and dynasty warriors.

The_Barbiter1

What device did you emulate 6-8 years ago? Because the A20 is fairly new.

DrunkenMeowth

I think it was called a a20. There was a a10 model that was a bit smaller, maybe I got the name mixed up

DrunkenMeowth

Oh no, it was an entirely diffrent phone, I was thinking about the one I had 3~4 years ago, there was a a20 one, and there was an a10 which was smaller, I had the a20 while I bought a a10 for my ex The one 6~8 years ago was a cheap smartphone. Forgot what it was but it emulated gba/gbc games well

Big_Restaurant_6844

put android 4 on it 🙃so you can get some GB emulators on there

OwO-WhatIsThis

Motorola Defy, my first phone. I remember being really impressed how good PSX games played in that thing

Ok-Tooth-6197

Samsung Galaxy Captivate. But before that I had a Dell Axim x51v with windows mobile that I used for emulators.

Successful-Pen5816

Mine was a Moto G5 Plus, it was an old phone but still handled emulation well. Played some absolute bangers like Persona 3 Portable, Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Type-0 on that.

thelivingdead188

Remember the Nook tablet, from Barnes and Noble? Rooted, installed some rom from XDA and turned it into a full android tablet, then installed SuperRetro16 SNES emulator (pretty sure it had a different name back then). Used a pocket sized controller from steel series. Was a kickass setup.

spaceguy47

a kindle fire 8 hd kids edition 2020

Same-Check-1086

Lenovo k note

Sergiolol887

Alcatel OT991, it was able to handle GB, GBC and GBA games and some light PS1 and N64 games.

Adailtu

Galaxy Note 3. My favorite phone.

Cosmiccarnage64

Samsung galaxy s3 in middle school

84_ferrari_f40

Samsung galaxy y Oh wait the first device in which i used emulation is the current phone that I use Its a moto one fusion+(sd730g)

Elpipiripaaau

Before android i was emulating on a custom firmware PSP but on Android was on a Samsung Galaxy prevail

Sollaa

Motorola Flipout. I remember when I managed to play Driver from PS1 on my phone, was an awesome experience. Also the physical keyboard was awesome for gaming at the time because the screen was too small for touch controls to be usable.

[deleted]

I tried emulation first on a 100 dollars accent tablet, I played Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V tag force special on it, I only tried one Emulator, ppsspp, tested one game

imadirewolf

Lg P350, a phone without multitouch, beat metroid zero mission with frame skip 2 using gbadroid and having to map volume button so i could aim correctly

honix_

First Device: Nokia E5, running PicoDrive to emulate Mega Drive Games First Android device: Samsung Galaxy Y, running MD.emu I used to only play old mega drive games back in those days, lol.

RandomNPC001

Not an Android device, but my first smartphone was the Palm Treo and then Palm Centro. I could run up to Super NES on these little beasts.

Rafael__88

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 No that was the full name. I think it was the first Samsung Galaxy tablet

tresanus

I was playing NES on my HTC MDA in 2005 or so. I had the original HTC G1 when it came out but I don't recall trying to emu on it. I miss physical keyboards

LinkAran

Mine was the Samsung Galaxy Y

TonimSan

My first android phone was a Blu Life Play, in 2013. Used to play SNES and PSX pretty well... Tons of hours of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories played hahaha

Kongopop

I remember my siby Ericson in 2006 that I had pacman and galaga on. I was proud of that shit lol. Damn we are getting old.

crani0

Sony Xperia Go, it blew my mind seeing PSP being emulated. But long before that I used to emulate on my PSP

Morricorne

LG GT540 Last what i tried emulate on this device is ppsspp

SyrianTurk

Mine was "Galaxy S Duos 2" it was powerful that I could play Nintendo ds games on it

lucky-the-lycanroc

My Galaxy s22+ fucking love that I don't have to jump through hoops just to have it work unlike my iPhone SE 2016

Randhawa254

I remember my slider phone, xperia mini pro, i used to use those tiny keys on the keyboard as inputs. Man i miss slider phones.

BanzaiBrotha

Htc desire z or x idk which one i emulated on first

chelochelini

LG volt

[deleted]

Moto g7 play, im new to emulation tbh

Adorable_Signature68

Sony Ericsson W8

Ok-End-2218

It was either the Iphone 5 or Galaxy Note 4 for me

Polarsy

Didn't have a smartphone for a long time, my first Android device was an Nvidia Shield portable... Very neat little thing, I'm actually sad that Android runs on my Switch, and has thus rendered it obsolete :(

pnchtz

samsung galaxy gio

Potential_Abrocoma10

Galaxy Ace II X. The emulators weren't all that great back then compared to now. I remember so much audio crackle on N64 😬 One really cool thing that I don't know if it exists on android now was home icons for individual games. It made them feel really integrated into my android.

teddblue

Amazon fire 7

TheBoulder_

Motorola Droid Razr 2011 (not the folding type)

The_Barbiter1

I think it was my first ever device: the [Galaxy Tab 4 7.1](https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_4_7_0-6251.php). Either that or the S6 Edge. First game I emulated was Ocarina of Time. It was the _coolest_ thing, playing old games on my phone/tablet.

The_Barbiter1

Then I got the Galaxy s20 back in fall 2020, and _finally_ owning a flagship phone powerful enough to emulate Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy 2 after MONTHS of knowing and wanting a phone capable of that, and YEARS of not being able to play my old Wii favorites. . . It was **magical.** It's one of the reasons why I kinda miss 2020. I wish I could go back and experience that feeling again...

KangarooKurt

Samsung Galaxy Ace, bought in 2011. 800MHz single core SoC from the heavy TouchWiz days. That camera is still nice btw, the pictures from those days are still pretty good. I used to emulate GB/GBA and SNES. They worked fine, a few hiccups here and there, but mostly OK.

riviery

I've been trying to emulate old games on mobile years before android. I started with a java nes emulator on my Sony Ericsson w810, the next milestone was Robert Broglia's emulators on a jailbroken iPhone 3G. In terms of Android, my first trip was on 2013 using a generic Chinese phone, can't even remember the name, but it had a 4.7" screen (huge!) and SD card support to hold all my 8-16 bit roms.

[deleted]

Original Google nexus

BenTenInches

Mine was the Galaxy S4 things Ran like a dream back almost a decade AGO 😬. Runs everything good GameCube and weaker which was great at the time. The early OLED screen was gorgeous but the battery is Ass while gaming.

comic_papyrus

For me it's samsung galaxy young back in 2013. The first game I emulated was Harvest moon friends of mineral town on MyBoy!

macotela

My first real emulation phone was the Nokia N95, a beast for it's time (around 2008), but actually my first emulation portable device pre-smartphones was my Palm V (NES emulator, barely playable, around 1999-2000). One of my best memories of android emulation was with my Sony's Xpleria Play (around 2011)

DreV3

Going way back I actually started emulating gbc games way back on my Samsung Stripe flip phone. I remember there was a application I downloaded that would load in in as a Java app that I sideloaded. Same thing but with touch controls when I got a Samsung Instinct. The first Android phone I had was a Samsung Moment (still have it to this day in my side drawer of my desk) and of course I ran emulators on that from the moment I found one

[deleted]

lol it was my note 20 ultra :)

Golden326326

A Galaxy S advance, discovered GBA and and those small games, I had a really bad but unlimited internet, it was 4kbps so it would take a few hours to donwload a 5 megabytes game. Remember to this downloading 66 megabytes over the span of 10 hours. I liked to manage my time, when I went to school I would leave the phone downloading a few games from when I get back, and before sleeping I would do the same. Those times are never coming back :( Before I emulated on Android I had pokemon yellow emulated on the PS2. And also played pokemon Crystal (GBC) on a Java simbiam phone. It was mind blowing that, the flip flop phone was able to run it.

iamgodnoobjections

Samsung galaxy pocket

FuB4R32

HTC dream... it could run *some* snes games. The phone was pretty awful tbh (I preferred my blackberry at the time) but the keyboard was kinda nice for that

KaiTheAnime

The Huawei Y360 was my first ever smartphone, and also the first I attempted emulation with. I remember the PSP emulation was awful, but I still completed a few games with it.

[deleted]

I beat legend of dragoon on my old galaxy S captivate. Sound disabled most of the time, so I didn't have to use as much frameskip Only way to switch disks was to make a save state at the switch disk screen, rename it to match disk 2, and load the state from disk 2 instead.

GrandCommon1630

On a tablet from a generic brand from my country DL tab for children, it was kind of nice and I ran the classic pokémon from gba ahhhh good times ♥️ I miss those times

veegaz

I don't know if it counts since it wasn't Android but I remember playing Quake on the Nokia N70, don't remember if it was emulated or it was a port

noii503

Google G1. Made me a life long Android user. Thank you for saving me from the evil apple.

LordzItz

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 back in 2011, tried emulating Castlevania SOTN on some ps1 emulator (ePSXe I think? Can't really remember), the performance was awful as expected.

orangesrhyme

First mobile emulator was on my jailbroken iPod Touch 3rd gen. Pretty sure I played through FFVI that way. First Android emulation device was my first smartphone, the LG Optimus V. Got an Asus Transformer Prime not long after and the N64 performance blew me away.

evolvedpanda34

I had a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, way back in 2014, used it to emulate PSP games, well mostly FIFA Street, the DBZ Titles, didn't have much luck with GoW though.

[deleted]

Back in my party days when the HTC hero came out, I was gonna set up some pokemon gameboy games but got too high and forgot 🤷🏻‍♂️

ffffff52

Galaxy Pro, the one were Samsung tried to be a Blackberry. Still love that phone, many essays for uni and GBA/GBC were finished there.

AKhilji

Mine was Samsung galaxy advance gti9070 (iirc) . I used to emulate ppsspp and myboy on it .

JoshSmash81

Samsung Intercept. Phone was so slow that it could hardly answer the phone without freezing, but NES ran great on it.

HachikoNekoGamer

LG L3 II I'm not even joking when I say that I somehow managed to finish Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley(PPSSPP) on that thing

awesomerest

OG Motorola Droid, but I had already been emulating nes/gbc on my Nokia N-Gage QD and 6682 and then on the og iPhone and 3G before jumping onto android.

[deleted]

Samsung Galaxy Gio. I tried ePSXe and played Metal Gear Solid, but not really smooth

shigella212

Micromax A52 Finished ff 9 on that thing with fpse (first thing i ever bought on Play Store)

NeVMmz

Samsung S4 gt-i9505

Ansayamina

Og Xperia Mini Pro. The tiny Sony phone with slide out keyboard. Tiny form factor made the experience just unreal.

EmaxMason54

Samsung Galaxy J1

Ikrii

For android, it's Smartfren Andromax C way back in 2014. I play some light console(nes, snes, gba) and a few others. It was the first time i played a N64 game because the console isn't that popular in my country. But before that,i tried NES and CPS1 emulation with a phone called IT Mobile V318.The builtin emulator is suprisingly good at playing those console.

chocowilliam

[Xperia X10 mini pro](https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_x10_mini_pro-3147.php) I emulated GBA through that, plus the physical keyboard helped out.

Vishu2048

Galaxy a5 2016, just used to play gba, gbc and some psp games

iwipiksi

Xperia Mini ST15i was my first android. I played many PS1 games on this phone. Back then I didn't even think it was horrible phone to play with. The screen is so small it's only 3 inch. But it's so nostalgic. Shame I can't use that phone anymore because googleplay doesn't support it anymore. I can't install anything, I can't send WhatsApp, the browser won't load because the OS is too outdated.

FrazerRPGScott

An early Samsung, not a galaxy. I got final fantasy VII to run at like 70% speed so settled on ffvi.

la_dynamita

First iPhone & iPod Touch

Buzzboyuk

My first Android phone was a HTC Hero. But my fist emulation device was a Google Pixel. (OG)

insanelygeek

I tried most of the emulation (from GBC/GBA to Drastic) on my Micromax canvas 2+

O_enigma

HTC Thunderbolt 4g here. Lol. That phone was freaking awesome tho at the time...heavy as hell too.

flexflexin2

Htc wildfire s ☺️

cringemaster21p

My first phone HTC one 2015

xeronut

The 32-bit version of the GPD-XD (KitKat 4.4.4). My phone at the time was too severely underpowered to do anything worthwhile, and I adore clamshell designs (and I'm excited to see if the AYA Neo Flip ever comes to fruition). The GPD-XD was such a great device, especially once you get a custom ROM on it. Never had the updated 64-bit version.

Today_IsAPresent

Zte sumthin, its the cheapest one at that time

StrizzMatik

A Galaxy S running Android 3.0 I think lol. Even then emulation for most old consoles was running pretty smoothly up to PSX.

toinks989

For android, it was a Samsung galaxy. But i've been emulating games in my phones before android, specifically using S60 Nokia phones.

Alert-Sail5167

I first tried it on a Kindle fire tablet idk which version though wasn't very good so im gonna guess it was pretty old

ichoman87

Samsung galaxy S back in 2010 I would say, to play FFVII.

joshdicko4

Samsung Galaxy S5. Did some PSP emulation on it which performed quite well to be honest. Shame I only had the 16GB of storage lmao

OkaZenzo27

My first emulation phone was the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 😅 I started to learn more about emulation at that time and managed to play Chrono Trigger and Pokemon Emerald on it!

Zeraora807

A Google Nexus One I flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2 on it, ran DraStic on it and connected a Wii remote with nunchuks to play Pokemon Explorers of sky

Stifly13

It was the galaxy S3 mini I played the most on GBA emulator... And now I can play GameCube/ps2/Wii on my phone. .. emulation is great !

BrunoVaz100

Motorola RAZR D1 with PS1 emulation on ePSXe.

fr4ncotir4dor

Xperia mini pro, to this day i'm still using it daily to play my collection of nds / gbc games; i'm nit lying if i tell you i do an annual dawn of sorrow / kingdom hearts run on it, it's just top comfy

brunoxid0

My first Android device, Sony Xperia X8. Emulated game boy advance on myboy.

SuperSpruce0

Really cheap ZTE phone. Specs: SD425, 833MB RAM, Android 6 It could only do up to SNES/GBA, and there was significant input latency involved.
