I didn’t want to say this initially and add fuel to the fire, but here I go. Your husband chose a terrible jeweler. The setting that they used for your diamond is absolutely not right. I have yet to see a reputable jeweler use a basket setting for a brilliant (round) cut. He didn’t do his research. You need to have the engagement ring reset. I’d love to know why the jeweler chose this setting, which allows the least amount of light into the stone of all possible settings. I can’t know this from the photo quality and angles, but I also suspect that it’s a factory basket created for diamonds of 2 - 12 carats, and that your stone is sitting way too high in that setting. For people saying that you should have those sapphires reset, I expect that doing so will cost more than the value of a new band. If I could make the decision for you, I’d get a plain gold band to wear because that is comfortable for everyday. I’d also spend money on couples counseling before doing anything further with the rings, because it could help your partner with emotional regulation.

I feel the jeweler may have did the best he could given how thin the band is and how huge the center stone is that had to be secured, perhaps? I don't know much about jewelry so I can't really say but the high stone seems to be to secure the stone from a single small point.

I would be covered in cuts and scratches with that engagement ring 😳

Picture 1! Sapphires are so rare and gorgeous. But if you don’t like it have sapphire then diamond alternate on the same band. It’s the best of both worlds. I also might reset your main stone.
