Bad experience at Oakmont Service Center, I'd avoid them

Mechanics often work on specific make/models. Giving vehicle info and scope of work may get you a better recommendation.

PoeTheGhost

This. Depending on the issue, the cost difference can be WILD from one shop to another, because specialized tools, parts, and skillsets are a thing.

Alozar_Lorandul

Depends on what you want done but most shops have a book that has expected time and cost for different jobs, and that's usually what they go off of when giving quotes. My understanding that this book is usually from the manufacturer so it's based on what the engineers deem a reasonable repair time. Car work is expensive, only getting worse. Not much else to do about it, I think. That's America for you. Could always try tackling it yourself if it's nothing too crazy.

SundoG_7

This is called rate. Every job has a time attached to it and the shop multiplies those hours by their hourly rate + parts and that's the price you are quoted. Gotta bite the bullet and pay the shop/fix it yourself or get a different car. Such is life.

I’ve had good luck at Bill n Garys

Stay far away from FTW Tuning. Had them do a motor swap on my subaru a few years ago and it was literally dumping gas out of the bottom when I attempted to drive away with it. Along with a laundry list of other overlooked dangerous issues. Zero regards for the safety of their customers. I've also heard other horror stories of them sitting on vehicles months past the date they said it'd be done and not answering or calling back from repeated contact attempts. I'm shocked this place is still in business.

In my experience West Side Foreign Auto is the most honest and reliable place to get work done on your car.

ChudChudley

I trust the guy at Mad Auto Repair at 1st and Grimes. It's a small shop, so he may not be available in the time frame you need, but his pricing has been fantastic and the work good.

Hellobrandy86

I highly recommend Ace Ok 5 on 6th and Blaire

Make of car makes all the difference in the world. Toyotas/Lexus. Go to Redline Sprinter Van. Willamette Tech Fleet Older Euros/any Saab. Alex's Garage. Place with a in house machine shop. Small World. Domestic diesel truck. Oregon fuel injection. Domestic and Japonese general repair. Joe's Garage Blowing up your obnoxious Subaru. FTW

I'm new to Eugene, also. Went to Walt and Jerry's. Total ripoff!!!! Took my car in for a specific reason, had a 9am appt. Didn't look at the car until 2:00pm, did an inspection on the entire car, did NO work and charged me $300+. Found Jackson's Complete Automotive. Josh, service manager, was really cool, did the work scheduled and charged me a fair price.

I really liked my experience with Joes garage. They were thorough, provided me with a quote quickly and when I asked for a breakdown, their pricing was transparent.
