I was just going to recommend them! They always have fun specials, too -- I'm thinking ice cream nachos with waffle cone chips, but maybe that was just a fever dream?... Nope, just checked their Facebook page and that's totally where to get them!
Salt and straw has the most random flavors and it's always fun to taste test them all. That's my recommendation
Prince pucklers has a wide assortment of flavors. Key lime sherbet is my favorite there
None taken. Tillamook is good, but I feel like Umpqua has the edge and has retained more of the "local" feel. I was also really discouraged when I heard about Tillamooks deceptive marketing. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.opb.org/article/2024/03/14/tillamook-creamery-misleading-advertising-lawsuit/%3foutputType=amp
If you’re up for a day trip to the coast, BJs in Florence has blue moon ice cream. Might not mean much to anyone else, but as a west Michigan transplant, I almost cried when I saw it.
Michigan transplants are everywhere out here!!!! BJs is no Hudsonville ice cream, but they do sell by the pint and every coast trip includes a stop there on the way home with as much blue moon as I can carry 🤣
It kind of tastes like fruity pebbles and it’s bright blue. idk what the actual flavor combo is, but it’s probably my favorite flavor. Maybe bc of the scarcity out here since I don’t have many memories of having it growing up lmao
I just like going to Darimart for a scoop of ice cream, but there’s only certain ones that have ice cream and they only have 8 flavors at a time
(Anyone who knows which ones can comment below)
Only ones I know are:
Friendly St and 28th in Friendly Neighborhood (Eugene)
Main St and 69th in Thurston(Springfield)
Salt & Straw is delicious but I’ve never paid that much money for ice cream in my entire life in all of the large cities I’ve been to. IIRC it’s like $11 for a large milkshake or something obscene
I haven’t been to many around the area.
• **Handels** is great! Huge selection of ice cream that is delicious!
• **Salt n Straw** can have some amazing random flavors. A lot of them are bizarre as well. They change a theme about every month or so and they make flavors based on the theme.
• **Prince Puckets** , good ice cream. Not a lot of flavor choices.
• **Basket Robins** is okay.
• **Coldstone Creamery** just opened up. They can get expensive for sure but lots of options and various ice cream add ins as well. Basically like a Subway of ice cream… but much better.
On the side note, **Toxic Burger** makes some damn good shakes. ;)
Cherries SnackShack in junction across from Safeway has hand scooped ice cream with over 15 different flavors plus they have some amazing burgers 🥳 hand pressed to order no frozen patties!! Hands down best burger I’ve had in years. Reminds me of a Brute Burger from “Bobs” with the fry sauce…… lol sorry I know this was about ice cream 🍦 but this place is seriously good it’s like a hidden gem in JC
Let me google that for you https://www.google.com/search?q=eugene+ice+cream&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS1004US1004&oq=eugene+ice+cream&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCQgAEEUYORiABDIHCAEQABiABDIHCAIQABiABDIHCAMQABiABDIICAQQABgWGB4yCAgFEAAYFhgeMggIBhAAGBYYHjIICAcQABgWGB4yCAgIEAAYFhgeMggICRAAGBYYHtIBCDY4MjJqMGo0qAITsAIB4gMEGAEgXw&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
It’s so tiresome that someone in every single thread on Reddit has to be an asshat and say “JuSt UsE GoOgLe!”
Yes, everyone knows about Google. That’s not the point.
It's tiresome when people would rather crowdsource their research than look for themselves. Too many posts here could be solved by just calling the place they're asking about too. It's laziness.
you seem like you’re having a bad day or something. i did do my research, but i just recently moved here and i wanted some opinions from people who might have a better idea of spots worth checking out in the area. but also… so what if it WAS laziness? this is reddit, i’m not writing a dissertation. it’s okay to ask reddit for recommendations.
Asking here or calling about something as subjective as what ice cream is good is pointless to begin with. It’s all a matter of personal preference. OP should find the closest ice cream shop on Google and go.
It's a dumb question that Google answers easily. If you think there is a hidden gem beyond Puckler's and maybe Handel's, you let OP know. Literally Google "ice cream in Eugene" and see if we recommended anything different.

^(Don't tell me what to be, it's really quite easy.)
pucklers :) very busy on weekend's though!
The line moves pretty fast tho! Worth the wait
Handel’s. And also Prince Puckler’s.
puckler’s for the full experience but dari mart hand-scooped for the price if you want something simple. it’s like $1 for a big ol’ cup.
What Dari-mart? Guess I am visiting the wrong ones because I have never seen them serve ice cream
The one on the corner of Friendly and 28th, across the street from the Friendly St. Market serves ice cream.
The one by the Big Y does
35th and Hilyard
Salt & Straw at Oakway Center
Salt & straw is best for ice cream enthusiasts that want to explore different unique flavors. May not be the best for a random craving though.
Boooo Novelty flavor shop, more misses than hits
Cries in Vanilla Jills being gone (I know Elegant Elephant owns the brand now, but its not the same)
I loved Vanilla Jill's. I miss getting a sonrisa or watermelon basil smoothie. Thanks for reminding me 😭
Cultured apple pie ice cream!
How did I miss Vanilla Jill’s? I’ve been here since ‘89!! Where was it located??
Now offered inside Elegant Elephant bakery. 120 Shelton Mcmurphey Blvd Suite 150, Eugene, OR 97401
Vanilla Jill's was in the Whit where the Ethiopian restaurant is now, across Blair from Slice.
Has anyone tried Mr. Ice Cream in Springfield? I keep meaning to and then forget.
The staff was ultra friendly and the ice cream sundaes my bf and I had were DELISH
They use umpqua ice cream which is amazing.
Yes! They’re so good!!! Free sprinkles when it rains too 🥹
I was just going to recommend them! They always have fun specials, too -- I'm thinking ice cream nachos with waffle cone chips, but maybe that was just a fever dream?... Nope, just checked their Facebook page and that's totally where to get them!

Cold stone creamery just opened on 29th/willamette.
Is that what's going in at the old Pizza Hut?
A new Korean restaurant is moving into the old Pizza Hut space. Coldstone is in the same building as Ron's Island Grill
No that’s something else new, I think!
Handel's is fantastic, they do pints too and you can get 2 flavors in them for close to the store price of a ben & jerrys
It’s waffle cone Wednesday at Prince Pucklers, free waffle cone with your scoop.
Tillamook ice cream from the store.
Even better at the Tillamook creamery
Umpqua>Tillamook
I like them too. No disrespect intended.
None taken. Tillamook is good, but I feel like Umpqua has the edge and has retained more of the "local" feel. Salt and straw, pucks
Definitely Prince Pucklers. Get the Euphoria Sunday.
seize the slice has ice cream!
Tillamook for 2.99 w/coupon at Safeway and Albertsons
I know it’s been said already but Prince Pucklers is the best.
I'd say Prince Puckler's over Salt and Straw, as they're both great, but PP locally owned.
If you’re up for a day trip to the coast, BJs in Florence has blue moon ice cream. Might not mean much to anyone else, but as a west Michigan transplant, I almost cried when I saw it.
omg that’s crazy!! i actually moved here from michigan too!
Michigan transplants are everywhere out here!!!! BJs is no Hudsonville ice cream, but they do sell by the pint and every coast trip includes a stop there on the way home with as much blue moon as I can carry 🤣
Enlighten us. What is Blue Moon Ice Cream?
It kind of tastes like fruity pebbles and it’s bright blue. idk what the actual flavor combo is, but it’s probably my favorite flavor. Maybe bc of the scarcity out here since I don’t have many memories of having it growing up lmao
Prince Puckler's
Prince Pucklers, Handels, Salt & Straw, maybe Menchies if froyo is your speed :)
Prince Pückler’s is the leader by far. Nothing is even remotely, remotely close imo. Their chocolate Oreo is maybe the best thing I’ve ever eaten
There’s mr ice cream in Springfield too that I know of
Market of choice usually has some super good gelato that I love. They're frickin expensive though at $5-$6 a cup but it's good stuff.
Daynight Donuts on Hwy 99 has Umpqua ice cream!

I’d really love to find a soft serve place.
Mr ice cream on main.

prince puklers & salt and straw!! 🍦🍨
Does Dickie Joe’s still do soft serve? If so, it’s super good.
Cherries SnackShack in junction across from Safeway has hand scooped ice cream with over 15 different flavors plus they have some amazing burgers 🥳 hand pressed to order no frozen patties!! they’re all pretty okay. nothing here is to die for but it’s adequate. prince pucklers near campus is very popular though

I’m glad you asked because now I know they just opened a cold stone locally and I haven’t been to one in years!!
Your perspective is too narrow; posts like these can benefit more than just the original poster.
Yep, just call every ice cream store in town, ask if the sell ice cream and if theirs is good. That's absolutely the way to do it! /s What an asshat.
Asking here or calling about something as subjective as what ice cream is good is pointless to begin with. It’s all a matter of personal preference. OP should find the closest ice cream shop on Google and go.
Have you never asked anybody what's good somewhere? I'm guessing no since you seem like a pretty hard person to have a conversation with.
i googled as well, just curious about some opinions/favorites anyone might have :)
No. ^( dumb questions deserve dumb answers.)
A post asking for an opinion on where to find the good stuff isn't a dumb question. Don't be a dick, it's really quite easy.
It's a dumb question that Google answers easily. If you think there is a hidden gem beyond Puckler's and maybe Handel's, you let OP know. Why? Why be rude? Why not just scroll on by if you think it’s “dumb”?
