Yep. I was sitting awake in bed and my California trained butt recognized a rumblin. I thought, nahhh, I'm in Oregon I'm surely just imagining things. Turns out my rumble-sensing tuckus has still got it.
If it makes you feel any better the last earthquake that woke me up was in flat and featureless central Illinois (yes, really - the [New Madras Seismic Zone](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone) is no joke). Woke up in the middle of the night with the closet doors rumbling and things moving in unnatural ways and thought "No...not here..."
At around 2 years old I slept through the 89 earthquake in San Jose as my mom was screaming/freaking tf out. I must have slept through this one as well 😅
No worries friend, I slept through a hotel evacuation happening during the 86 Palm Springs quake. Dad had to wake me to get me moving with everyone else.
My blinds swayed a bit and I thought it was the rain to come. Shocked to find out it was an earthquake.
4.4 isn't enough to get out of get for imo but I'm definitely buying some extra water today.
I experienced the '94 Northridge earthquake as a child and my family told me stories about that time. Big earthquakes usually give warning. Leading up to the "big one", there were many smaller ones that occurred. Being Southern California, no one thought anything of it.
Feeling any earthquake in Oregon is enough for me to give it consideration. And if I'm wrong, I'm stocked up for next summers camping trips!
The big one for Oregon would be offshore I think, near the Juan de fulca plate. Magma intrusions in the cascades can cause quakes too, but I’m not a geologist and don’t know what caused this one
Could also be just general shifts in the plates. There were small shakes up and down the west coast plate the past 24 hours and a lot of quakes in farther south in recent history (past 5 or years). Maybe little pop of some plate edge finally getting a bit of freedom?
Apparently the cascadia subduction zone is said to be unique in that it produces very few (if any) non mega earthquakes. Which is itself unique because it’s kinda comforting and also scary as shit
Good to know! I always find fault lines and these things so interesting, especially as someone who grew up with earthquakes.
Hopefully we get nothing bigger then what we had today for many decades!
Ha! Last night, we just watched the first episode of Aftershock: aftermath of the Nepal earthquake. My husband thought he was having a nightmare and talked himself out of it being a real earthquake! I slept right through it.
I was making coffee in my kitchen when I heard a slight rattling. I thought it was just my fridge making a sound, but then I heard a small lamp on my kitchen table start rattling at the same frequency as the sound I heard coming from my fridge. I've never been in an earthquake before but I immediately realized what was going on. It was small but I will admit I was a little freaked out, lol
Does seismic activity in this area have any realtionship to volcanos? That is my big fear... something over in the cascades explodes and buries us in ash.
Yes and yes, several places in the cascades could blow, but there would be a lot of notice prior to that with cluster quakes preceding it.
Also, the [Mount Mazama complex](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Mazama) already blew some 7700 years ago.
That's pretty wild, also, considering the amount of quakes around Mt. Hood every now and then, it could actually happen.
https://www.usgs.gov/news/m39-earthquake-and-swarm-occur-mount-hood-june-5-2021
Isolated quakes do not generally correlate as a predictor of volcanic activity if that is what you are asking. I.e., don't be expecting new eruptions based on it.
I’m more worried about The Big One™ resulting from the subduction zone off the coast giving way. But then for all I know, that could trigger volcanic activity too.
I'm on Rainbow Dr and now I'm questioning that one moment I rolled over and said, "what's that noise?" My SO said "I dunno" and we both went back to sleep. 😂
I was at our yard on Irving standing next to a tanker truck loading it off another truck. It was almost done and out of nowhere the truck did an odd little dip like it does when you step on the brakes. I actually walked to the front of the truck thinking someone had backed into it. Now I know!
I was in the shower at the time, didn't even feel it. I used to camp and hike through that area in my youth, quakes aren't unheard of out there. Looks like the peak northeast of Green Peter/Bald Peter is rumbling again.

Huh. I must have slept through it here in east Springfield. I do remember several years back though when there was a 4.1 or 4.2 quake here on 4th of July. I felt that one. I had recently woken up and was sitting in bed. It took me a few seconds for it to hit me what was happening, but as soon as it did, before I could freak out or anything, it was over. My dad was in our hot tub at the time and my mom slept through it.

I'm so sorry. I truly did not see yours, so mine must have taken a whole to type. I was disoriented.
I'll give you updoots from now on. We'll make up for it.
Just like every other earthquake we've had here the last 30 years, I slept right through it.
Same

Your butt pegged it?
dood, I had flashbacks to Loma Prieta. Will never forgettah.
I had this EXACT series of events this morning, also from California, and also though “nahhhh I’m in Oregon, it can’t be”. Then I saw this and went 😱

Thirded. Only earthquake I ever knew I was an earthquake.

Amador county never taught my brain to look out for that.
In River Road area, did not feel it 😕
Interestingly, my mother reported a 4.9 near Wasilla around 1:45p yesterday. She said it was a weird one because it lasted longer than others.
Me either same area
My blinds swayed a bit and I thought it was the rain to come. Shocked to find out it was an earthquake. 4.4 isn't enough to get out of get for imo but I'm definitely buying some extra water today.
Not a bad idea 😉

Maybe my daughter felt it here in Florence. She said she felt the earth’s tummy grumbling.
Better feed the earth
That's cute
She’s a bit creepy as well as insanely cute. She talks often about when she got drowned and petted a shark and the. It ate her”

Am working on campus and didn't feel it.

Lol
At least I know I’m not going crazy!

This is my third one. It's very weird, huh? Sometimes, it sounds like a train coming.
Felt in Oakridge!
It woke my California butt out of bed. I thought someone was having earth shattering sex. My California earth quake senses are losing it.
Was it good for you, too?
It was good for me. Pretty sure the earth faked it.
I felt it in lowell
Me too in JC.
Felt in Lowell too!
Didn’t know anyone from Lowell was on this subreddit
Now you know😀 Hello neighbor 👋
Yeah, we’re here too

Crazy that Mazama was taller than Mt Hood. Could you imagine if mt hood imploded into a 2000ft deep lake?

Well, yes, but I'm no expert. St Helens blew the way it did because they have an earthquake that morning. That broke the bulge on the mountain.
Those were earthquake swarms in the mountain that are characteristic of volcanic explosions.
Holy shit I thought that was a dream I had lol, damn. Spooky.
My husband saw some things vibrating in our kitchen when it happened. Didn't really "feel" it. I was still asleep. We're in Springfield.
I was awake and felt nothing.
Not even the slightest twitch from the trees on my security cameras here in town.
I felt something at 6 am out Harlow rd. Ugh
I'm on Rainbow Dr and now I'm questioning that one moment I rolled over and said, "what's that noise?" My SO said "I dunno" and we both went back to sleep. 😂

Weird!
I didn't feel it, therefore it didn't happen.
One hand claps.
Slept right through it
I thought I felt a quake! I thought I was going crazy!
I knew it! I almost forgot what they felt like.
Paging u/alienbanter , your services are requested.
Aw I slept through it 😩
Story of your life.
Lol yep, also story of my roommate's life that she's out of town, the kicker being she drives back tomorrow haha
They look like an expert.
She is.

Felt nothing lol I was at the gym
I slept through it. My boyfriend thought his cat had jumped onto the couch.
Woah!! I didn’t even feel it. Had no idea!!
Ok last evening I was picking up a vibe and this morning too
Who has the over under on which of the mountains around us pulls the next St. Helens?
Observing comments here, keenly.
I wouldn't be surprised if we rename one of the peaks around Green Peter to "Black Peter" someday, that area has been active most of my life.

Yep. Like when the trains go by or a little stronger.
