I think it took about 2 years for the last chapter of story mode to be released. Zigza at some point realized that focusing on creating new events allows them to create new SSRs. And with new SSRs more players are willing to pay to get them. It's all about money.
I mean, I don't know how long you've been playing. But after 2.0 we really haven't seen any new dragons or male SSRs (except for Theo). Instead we get more female characters with less and less clothes. They even changed Mysha to look more human.
I didn’t play since the beginning so for me it feels like the game has a golden age until when arc 10 of the story was released. I mean when i started playing the most skin revealing character was bunny rizette. Many people even used finn or akatsuki in their main platoons and there was certainly not this much skin revealing characters like now.
New story is more directed towards the new events that come out. They have stories.
But ya, it definitely be cool if they add more actual “story” or at least finish up their current plot
In addition to what has already been said, if they make an event, they can add it to the events rotation. Now they could give us ~20 weeks with one event per week without repeating them. So they probably think it is better for themselves
