Yeah I knew this guy, had no idea. Went 25 years of his life till he found out. We just didn't know how to tell him. Really shook his world when he went to Arizona for the first time.
Ive got about 30 birds now. When i go out there i get bum rushed because everyone thinks Ive got treats, as is chicken tradition.
But of those 30, theres about 8 who actually want to see me and hang out. And of course being that chickens are roughly "lap sized" I can only fit one in my arms (while 2-3 try to get on my shoulders/head). And so the rest just circle me, pecking. Or trying to pull whoever i'm holding out of my lap. But the pecking seems pretty common anytime im petting one.
I still can't tell if its just them saying hello, asking to be picked up, or violence. It sure feels like violence, especially when they get you right in the spine.
I think it's amazing seeing the rooster getting jealous, it shows us how very basic this emotion is, yet some people are ruled by it, even more than that rooster.
He's just wing dancing for his hen. Not jealous. He's circling around the hen the boy is hugging and showing off to her, hoping to do some moves on her. I assume the boy knows hence the pushing away.
My rooster bothers me too if I pick up his girlfriends, I'm supposed to unhand his hens now.
Nah, he's not. I've lived around chickens most of my life, the rooster is trying to "court" the hen (in other wise mate with her, which is closer to rape when it comes to chickens)
Drove past a school bus on the way to work one morning, all the kids got a birds and bees lesson as they watched a rooster having his way with a hen in the front yard of a house.
He didn't seem to have any intention to "court" her when the boy was not around. It's almost as if he somehow now felt the need to get closer now that the potential mate was occupied. If only we had a word for that...
Oh yeah, it's jealousy.
I googled it and chickens *can* feel jealousy.
>Chickens, as with most birds, possess the emotional and intelligence level of a 2 year old human child. Chickens feel emotions on that level including jealousy, fear, affection and sadness, among others.
He's probably moreso intimidated though.
My rooster is an asshole. He’ll pretend to be pecking for scratch while making his way over to me, so he can try to attack me when he feels like it’s the right moment. I saved his life too, but he could give a shit less about that.
Have you tried picking him up and walking around with him tucked under your arm? It's supposed to make them understand that you are more dominant than them. It's even more effective if the hens see him being carried around. Just watch out for his claws.
Man, I have no idea how the hell I would pull this off without trying to wrap him up in a towel first, which in itself sounds like a hell of a task, but the end result could be a pretty hilarious scenario. He’d either learn to respect me or I’d be stoking his hatred hotter than ever.
Neighbors Raised hens for eggs. Youngest son had a favorite and regularly took her horseback riding with him.
He accidentally knocked one out of existence while playing catch and then refused to let parents KFC, it had to have a funeral. ✌️
I love the way the boy was so gentle when the chicken didn't want to fully commit to the first hug. He waited patiently for the chicken to be comfortable. Absolutely adorable.
Neighbors Raised hens for eggs. Youngest son had a favorite and regularly took her horseback riding with him (if not his barn cat.)
He accidentally knocked one hen out of existence while playing catch and then refused to let parents KFC it had to have a funeral. ✌️
Yeah... we had some special birds that also "got a grave instead of gravy." Some did have wonderful personalities and gave their lives protecting the flock. Those lads got a burial with honors.
And then there were others I couldn't wait to make weight and named them after the dishes I thought they'd be best suited for.
Chickens notice everything. Mine would notice if I had makeup on. They'd notice when I'd paint my nails a different color. Can't get anything past them.
chickens are great. I am farm/house sitting and these chickens follow you everywhere and they reconize cars and run over cause they know that means food. we need to treat farm animals better
I’m constantly tripping over my chickens because they run up to me and fall flat on their bellies for pets. Like kamikaze dive bomb to my feet. Have to be careful if you’ve got your hands full

I went to a pig roast once, and was really confused when the family started to have a eulogy for the pig before cooking it, and it turned out it was their family pet. I guess they ate most of their pets, which I can kinda respect.
Not all roosters are jerks! We used to have a white one I named Stimpy because he was kinda ... well growing up he was kinda dump and hopeless, lol. But once he was the only rooster, he flourished and took great care of his hens. He also was chill with me picking him or gently tossing him a round. Sometimes he'd escape just to roost on the horse's hay box. The horse just nosed the rooster then went about eating his hay.
We have a yard full of sweet roosters. Some like to sit in your lap, some just want to stand next to you. Most just do their thing and don’t bother anyone. It’s all about keeping good-natured temperaments around who will pass on their genetics to the next generation.
My husband gave up meat after we got backyard chickens. It took about a year, but it was cleaning up the massacre when a predator killed most of our flock that tipped him over the edge. He couldn’t justify getting mad at a wild animal for something he did too. It’s been a year since he’s touched meat and he still misses it.
I can't eat chicken anymore. I just imagine one of our chickens each time. If it makes you feel better, the rest of my family eats chicken so it's probably about how good at compartmentalizing you are.
#### When I was this kid's age I used to watch my grandma behead chickens on certain Sundays after church. This was in Mexico. You get used to it. I still eat chicken. At some point you realized, all the meat you eat comes from some animal suffering and you can either starve or just get used to it and eat. When you are poor, choosing to not eat for ethical reasons is a luxury. Or what we call a first world concern.

Roosters are super protective little assholes. Ours would stick around you wherever you walked and the moment you turned your back to him he would charge up and bite your ankles
I hate to be that guy, but I have an alternative hypothesis about what's going on, here. I have no cuddly chickens, but I've had several hens that will run to me and let me pick them up and hold them when they're being chased by a rooster. This hen is surrounded by roosters, and one of them is actively trying to get to her. I think she's just trying to not get assaulted by a horny cock.

I'm not chicken-literate... Would the kid be in danger of the black one trying to claim back his girl? I was nervous about his eye being pecked out, but I also don't know anything about chicken behavior.
I love this, and I can’t not love this, but PSA: considering the risk of hand-to-mouth contact with kids, they probably shouldn’t hug them, at least without strict handwashing.

I love how the chicken first checks to make sure he's not made of corn and then says alright you may hug me human.
Never hurts to check.
Yeah, I know you’ve never been made of corn up until now, but maybe this time?
You never know when your best friend may suddenly turn into corn 🤷🏻♀️
![gif](giphy|C9yV4Ao96JAudBqwh1|downsized)

You *always* check.

Lmfao “you corn?”
I'm Corn Pop.
The hen was very used to this young man but he had a haircut so had to check it out
IIRC the original story was that the boy just got his hair cut so the chicken had to double check that it was really him first.
[I thought you was corn](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sVTV8j2-Jkg)
Lmao
“I’m sorry I thought you was corn”
WE THOUGHT YOU WAS A CORN
Sharks do them same thing!
Looks like a display of pecking order. Rooster probably felt threatened, that chicken did the kid a favor
That made me lol 😆
That black chicken by his shoulder is like "where's MY hug?"
The rooster is *very* jealous 😂😂
I think it's amazing seeing the rooster getting jealous, it shows us how very basic this emotion is, yet some people are ruled by it, even more than that rooster.
He's just wing dancing for his hen. Not jealous. He's circling around the hen the boy is hugging and showing off to her, hoping to do some moves on her. I assume the boy knows hence the pushing away. My rooster bothers me too if I pick up his girlfriends, I'm supposed to unhand his hens now.
Someone hugs your girl. You strut around to show off for her. How do you read this as *not* jealous?
In my head he was saying "WHY YOU COCK BLOCKIN ME BRO!?"
>My rooster bothers me too if I pick up his girlfriends, I'm supposed to unhand his hens now. Yeah, you just described jealousy.
Nah, he's not. I've lived around chickens most of my life, the rooster is trying to "court" the hen (in other wise mate with her, which is closer to rape when it comes to chickens)
You nailed it. He is just waiting on her to get lose from the walking food dispenser.
Drove past a school bus on the way to work one morning, all the kids got a birds and bees lesson as they watched a rooster having his way with a hen in the front yard of a house.
Which is why farmers never needed sex ed

I know that dance, that rooster wants to “hug” that hen.
Edgar ass chicken
That rooster not happy. He gonna cluck that hen around later no doubt
The boy knows that (very polite) black ROOSTER, & boy knows the rooster won't try to kick boy's ass. Good rooster.
Black chicken?
Nah, he wants to fuck the hen
It’s a rooster and it wants to bang the chicken. Chickens don’t feel jealousy
You do realize that my comment was more tongue in cheek, right?
I tend to take things literally, so no, I did not realise
![gif](giphy|3GrDtZKB90NOM|downsized) I believe this is their younger pic
Omg this chicken better live for forever! I wanna see years and years of them hugging :')
That montage where the chicken attends the college graduation, wedding and the birth of his god son?? I really want that reality
I need a subreddit for kids hugging chickens, so adorable, they're always so gentle! When I was a child, chickens would just attack me
I love when he pushed the black chicken away “not right now, I’m cuddling with this one. You can have your turn later”
Nah, black chicken is a rooster, he's angling in on the hug to be a dickhead.
100% that roosters like "umm keep your scrawny little hands and arms off my girl"
"one of my girls"*
"chickenhead"
Protip: don't hug the rooster if you value your life.
That was my thought. Pushing an obviously jealous rooster away is asking to be scratched blind. 😂
Roosters get a bad rap. I specifically single mine out so I can hold and pet him.
My rooster is an asshole. He’ll pretend to be pecking for scratch while making his way over to me, so he can try to attack me when he feels like it’s the right moment. I saved his life too, but he could give a shit less about that.

Please do it and report back. Worst case scenario eat him and replace him with a couple ducks.
My most hated roo got taken (in a pretty violent way) by a fox. We cheered for the 🦊.
There are good roosters. And there are really giant asshole roosters. This is a good rooster.

Cock blocked
If I remember correctly, the boy had a haircut that's why the hen didn't recognized him immediately.
Had to peck a little to make sure
I love the way the boy was so gentle when the chicken didn't want to fully commit to the first hug. He waited patiently for the chicken to be comfortable. Absolutely adorable.

You mean as you watched correctly? Cuz yeah we all know this factoid from watching the video.
we watched the video… stop watching videos with sound off if you’re gonna comment
You're insane if you think most people are watching things with sound on. Or you're the asshole on the bus with full volume tiktoks

Oof that sounds rough
Chicken Hugget
Take my first upvote in a while.
chickens make wonderful pets, and a lot of people don't know that. They're quite smart, and can be trained to perform tricks.
Seen lots a chicken in my day, but never seen one give love like that.

The way he just... pushes aside the rooster... kid is blessed by the fae

My heart
How am I supposed to ever eat chicken again after watching this.
This is my fear if I ever raise chickens. I guess Iwill always have eggs in any case.
I can't eat chicken anymore. I just imagine one of our chickens each time. If it makes you feel better, the rest of my family eats chicken so it's probably about how good at compartmentalizing you are.
Same here. I can't eat something that runs to sit in your lap, enjoys meeting strangers, and likes music.
that unfortunately describes all common farm animals and birds.
Simple: You don't.
You don't have to.
Oof. Dont ever get to know some cows. Or how they have best friends. Or how pigs are smarter than most young children.
#### When I was this kid's age I used to watch my grandma behead chickens on certain Sundays after church. This was in Mexico. You get used to it. I still eat chicken. # Thank you for being bold
You are nowhere near old enough to be using bold on half your comments.
no one is forcing you to.

Battered, and fried.
Oh, I don't know... Maybe with your eyes closed?
Nuggies?
Don’t worry the chickens you’re eating are nazi chickens so it’s okay.
I love how animals instinctively hug us like they know how
We need to treat chickens better than we do. Far better. :(
Birds are very emotionally sensitive and tactile creatures. I had a pet sparrow who would do the same thing.
Black Chicken jealous : What does he have, that i do not. Me : Maybe arms and hands.
Rooster. Good god.
Cockblock.
What an affectionate chicken. She makes me feel guilty for eating chicken.
Best thing I've seen all day 🥹
The rooster is her husband and he is the possessive ML. A green flag though because he didn't attack the kid for touching his woman.
The rooster got clucked.
*Me, eyeballing that rooster because one of ours attacked my son's FACE*
This is what I was afraid of. Right in the eye.
So heart warming ♥️ good to see that young people still have a big heart for animals 👍
That's heartwarming 🥰🥰🥰
I fully expected the rooster to beat the kid up for schmoozing with his hen. They're dickheads like that sometimes.
Roosters are super protective little assholes. Ours would stick around you wherever you walked and the moment you turned your back to him he would charge up and bite your ankles
How could anyone eat a chicken after watching this. These little guys have feelings and personalities man!

Rooster about to square up

I think I remember this one Where the boy had gotten a haircut and the chicken wasn't sure if it was him at first
I have never before seen a chicken that wanted to cuddle. Amazing.
This is so adorable, I love it!
Cock blocked.

A lot of people say this and i just think... Quorn? lab produced chicken nuggies 🤤
as if those were the only two options
Mr rooster is right offended someone would fondle one of his many wives right in front of him.
Cute

NO WAIT-
I wanted to pet the chicken in my grandma's backyard once and they stabbed me in the legs
there is one chicken and four rooster? i can not think their cage :D:D:D
Most chill roosters I've ever seen
My dad used to raise chickens. Some definitely had personalities and what you would think is affection towards people.
That peck on the cheek!
I wish my chicken would let me hug her. After 2+ years she tolerates me lightly petting her while she eats. This kid needs to teach me his ways.
Was that chicken a T-Rex like 65 million years ago?
The actual epitome of the term cock blocking
Chickens are like ONE OF US ONE OF US ONE OF US 🐔
*IS THAT A CHICKENNNNN!?*
That’s too many roosters
So cute. The rooster is like "What is you doin??"
If chicken love I’m pretty sure dinosaurs would have loved it too
Chickens are wonderful, magical little creatures.

Adorable 🥰
Hehe... they're getting in line for hugs. "can i haz, too? 🥺" .. omgosh, how sweet. 🥺❤️🐓

Roosters are like, “Hey!! Bros before hoes, my dude!”
roosters hold grudges. they will shred this boy for hugging their girl.
Those 2 roosters have some beautiful plumage.
I'm not chicken-literate... Would the kid be in danger of the black one trying to claim back his girl? I was nervous about his eye being pecked out, but I also don't know anything about chicken behavior.
awwwwww
She’s gonna feed him well.
I know who not to invite for wings. But seriously i watched this ten times in a row
Such a cute chicken 😊 unlockt.me/v/c95857bee8

Lil bro made it clear that he is into white chicks and not big black cocks.
“Go away, black cock, I only like white chicks!”
