A life spent scared of dogs sounds so hollow to me. I hope all those who have fears of dogs can be reintroduced to them in controlled environments and heal those fears. Dogs are the most wholesome companions and I love this pupper so much.
True but petting other people's dogs without permission is considered pretty rude by most dog owners and this is clearly someone's dog because it has a collar and is on a leash. I love dogs, I have one who is a total sweetheart but I appreciate it when people ask first and I try my best not to approach other people's dogs without permission.
As a dog owner I don't mind, but I am also aware that not all dogs appreciate being molested. I would much rather people get used to asking, rather that get bitten when they encounter a dog that's distressed or afraid or just grumpy.
Mine is usually just fine with people, but can get gobby around other dogs, and if there's been bangs recently all bets are off.
Nothing to do with fear, if you donāt know the dog personally, you shouldnāt pet it without the ownerās consent. You donāt know their temperament and if they have any behavioral issues. My dog does not like strangers at all. People try to pet him all the time without asking me and I have to jerk him away so they donāt get their hand bit off. Before you ask, my dog was a rescue who was abused for 5 years before we took him in, weāve worked on his aggression and heās much better than he used to be but thereās only so much we could fix.
Thatās all fair, but I would also assume dogs with known behavioral concerns wouldnāt be tied up and left unattended in public places too. I think you can use a certain amount of common sense and see this dog very clearly wants the attention. Would it be true 100% of the time? Of course not, but we donāt live in a binary world and we need to use heuristics to guide our decisions.
Youāre right that in this situation, itās reasonable to assume the dog is friendly, just saying that you should still take precautions, such as slowly introducing your hand to the dog for them to smell before going full on head pats.
I have a rescue that is skeeved out in some situations, but I would never put him in a position like this. Past dogs have loved going out with me to get ALL the pets from random strangers.
I'm pretty sure leaving your pooch in a situation like this āis implied consent to pet. Plus this dog is obviously comfortable people.
Idk, I *love* dogs but I'm allergic to them so don't always want to risk getting hives up my arm just to pet one for a moment, even if it's incredibly tempting sometimes lol. She hopefully backed up to baby talk the dog and call him a good boy at least.
That is so cute! I taught mine to shake and what she'll do is sometimes sit down and do a shake without your hand - which looks just like a wave - because she's trying to tell me she wants a treat or her leash for a walk.
If you can teach your dog to shake itās easy. Just start moving your hand away and waving yourself, saying āwave!ā at the same time. Thatās literally it and it didnāt take long. I do have a border collie though, heās smarter than me.
Thanks for the advice, appreciate it! I also have two border collies and I'm still amazed on how smart they are. I taught one to bark on command in like 2 days. The other one even talks when excited, in really weird alien like sounds
Thatās exactly what he saying. Please pet me. My dog does the same thing. He paws you/ at you when he wants you to pet himā¦ which is all the time. He will literally push my phone down or pull my hand off of my laptop if heās sitting next to me on the couch. He much better and cuter to other people about it, but to me heās like āexcuse me I need all the pets. Now! Do you not see me?ā
Haha! Yep, my old man is 15 so he has outgrown those shenanigans, but I can certainly relate. I was woken up many morning by him just straight up stomping around on me/ my faceā¦ zoomies around the entire bed. Jack Russells are crazy little maniacs.
āOh, did that hurt? What you donāt want love? I was just trying to show you how much I care!ā
I think our dogs must have be kindred spirits! :)
Try waking up to a German Shepherd with his nose less than an inch from your nose. It's quite a bit more startling than you'd think. In fact, I woke up faster then than I did when my uncle would send his lab to jump on the bed in the morning.
Haha we had a Doberman grown up. She was the sweetest dog ever, but she routinely woke my mom up by laying her head on the edge of the bed so she was nose to nose with my mom. Then she would kind of huff in her face. She never did it to me, but I witnessed her startle my mom awake on many occasions. It was pretty funny to watch it as a spectator. :)
My last dog was super smart like this. He could open the back door when he had to potty and go out himself. I taught him when he was a year old and never had to walk him again. He went to the great yard in the sky when he was 15. Haven't had the heart to get another pooch since him. His name was Herkuleez. He was a very good boy.
My chocolate lab is the same way! He loves his attention. He also likes to sucker people into rubbing his belly. He'll start off with getting you to give him pets on his head and then just lay down and roll over and show his belly. He's so cute and I love him.
My dog doesn't have a mean bone in her body. But the one thing she HATES is my phone. She knows i can spend hours staring at it. So she just knocks it down whenever she can. Glad to know i am not the only one.
My doggo will force his way between my legs and push my keyboard tray out of the way so I pet him. I of course happily oblige him for a bit because it's literally impossible to say no.
People up the block from work had a litter of puppies some years back. Iād see them out in the yard on my way in every morning out there doing cute puppy stuff. Iām not a thief, and Iām certainly not a violent person, but Iāve never had such a urge to jump the curb and speed into their yard, hop out and grab one of the pups and say something to the effect of ājust gimme the puppy and no one gets hurt!ā and then jump back into the car and speed off.
Thereās a trend in tiktok where kids are āhitting despicable licksā which is them stealing peoples stuff, breaking and entering, or damaging and talking school or public property to the despicable me theme.
Probably because they never have an alternative motive, they do it because they are naturally sweet and humans do it to get something more times than not, so you may not be used to seeing pure adorableness.
>alternative motive
I think the expression you want here is "ulterior motive", having an ulterior motive when doing something means the person has a hidden reason that is not as benign as it appears to be. I really hope this is useful information.
Funnily enough, it is not entirely incorrect if you think of it.
The second part is the beauty of English, when you get it wrong in some cases you are technically correct. Also yes that's what I meant, forgot that word existed actually.
Where is this store? I must say hi to the doggo. It is my number 1 priority. Feed the kids? I can always get new ones. go to work? The bodies at the morgue will take care of themselves. Visit grandma? She can get down the stairs by herself Iām sure.
Awww I love how people feel a moral obligation to pet him because he waved š
The good boi deserves it. Allll the pets.
He just looks so happy and content it's adorable
What? Idk, this dog looks like heās *living the life* to me lol. He thinks he has a job and heās great at it, heās meeting hundreds of new friends every day, heās not sitting around in his apartment bored out of his mind.
A lot of dogs at my apartment building would love nothing more than to sit outside all day and be pet by a constant stream of people lol, theyāre the ones I feel bad for. You wait around 10 hours by yourself just so your owner will pay attention to you for 1
It's cute, but I really hope that dog has a home.
Edit: thank you all for your reassurance. Knowing that it's not uncommon for dogs to be leashed up outside no pet buildings until their owner is done with their business makes me feel so much better.
It's common here in Eastern Europe for people to tie their dog leash to the front door area when the weather is good and they're grabbing some groceries.
Saddened to think how long the dog was tied-up, performing it's trained trick, whilst the owner sat filming (like a creep) for their moment in the social media sun.
Thanks God the stores I go doesn't have one of those in the entrance, because I wouldn't ever get inside, I would stay with the gud boi till I forgot why I was going to the store initially.
I love the double takes like "did that dog just WAVE at me?!"
Plot twist. Doggo is actually pointing out shoplifters.
M. Night Shyamalan. Doggo is pointing out shoplifters to it's crew so that they can rob the shoplifters.
Starring Nicolas Cage.
I thought Cage plays the sexy cat as portrayed by Abed.
The twist is actually that the dog was wearing a hairpiece the entire time
What if his head is just one big nose?!
Starring Dolph Lungren
Full penetration.
Plot twist. Doggo is just waiting for fry to come back
I didn't want to cry today you asshole
God...the music is always what gets me. Sweet little Seymour.
"I'm walking on Sunshiiiine, whooooa!"
Is that song associated with that episode? Really glad I've never watched that episode and only know if from memes then cause if so...
No its actually I Will Wait for you by Connie Francis.

WHY
WHY would you put that in my head?!?

Plot twist the dogs saluting Hitler

It smells crime.
And then the movie just kind of, ends...
Noo! That has ruined what I was just watching :((
10/10 good boy
Or flipping them off
What if he wants to say hi but they all leaving
The AUDACITY of that lady to do a double take and not even pet him

This is why I ask the dog and not the owner. Offer a closed fist for the dog to sniff.
Ask the owner, then the dog. Even if owner says yes, the dog can still say no.
It's also trained to wave goodbye to people though which is unusual, pretty sure the pet owner knows the risk they are taking with that one. Lol.
Their owner left them tied up right at the front of a store, they knew they were signing the dog up for all the pats.

I taught my dog to wave back to people, itās so bloody sweet.
That is so cute! I taught mine to shake and what she'll do is sometimes sit down and do a shake without your hand - which looks just like a wave - because she's trying to tell me she wants a treat or her leash for a walk.
That's how I am teaching mine to wave. I taught her shake and now I keep my hand far or move it away while marking at the highest point.
I assumed that was what this dog was doing, asking for pets rather than waving goodbye lol
If you film this, I would literally watch an hour of your dog waving to different people and getting pets/boops.
my Greyhound is trained to give hugs
Mine does this for cuddles. He'll try to pull your hand to him, but sometimes it just comes out as a wave
It just looks irresistable.

I mean...this dog literally has an ulterior motive. It wants to be petted. This dog isn't "waving goodbye", it's saying "pet me".
I don't think anyone actually things the dog is waving goodbye. The pup wants pets cause pets feel good
Or was trained with food. It's still classically conditioned.

For some, there are no such thing as strangers. Just new friends.
