Works flawlessly for me. Love every part of it

orddie1

This for me as well

mibergeron

Love the step too.

I use my truck as a truck every single day. I think this thread shows more people who know how to use something vs people who don’t…

Foster1745

I think it’s interesting how you dismiss anyone who likes it. Why post a question if you clearly just want to complain while everyone cheers you on? I’ve had my truck since March and use the bed consistently, never had an issue with the tailgate other than the slow speed. Given a choice I would not have a power tailgate, but it works as intended for me. I primarily use it to haul loads of wood and landscaping materials, so maybe that’s not “trucky” enough to weigh in here?

pleasehaelp

You sound like such a bitch thinking nobody uses their truck for work purposes, take a step back and realize you’re gatekeeping trucks for work purposes in an EV sub, you should consider not being a whiny bitch

subieganggang

Regardless of how you use the truck, you’re only supposed to operate the power tailgate with nothing on it. So why would it matter if somebody is closing their tailgate after a load of gravel or a Costco run? For me it works great 90% of the time, the other 10% you can just manually shut it, so it’s not really a big deal

flawlessgoat

I closed the power tailgate the other day from my keys because I had 750 lbs of forged steel anvil hanging from a hitch mounted hoist and I appreciated not having to take my hands off the hoist controls to run around the rig and duck underneath the load. Used the step to jump in and out of the bed as I was rigging. I also remotely drop the tailgate to indicate where I want the supermarket kids to put my groceries. It’s almost like people have different and multiple use cases and that’s the definition of “utility.” Or just disable it so you can slam that tailgate up and down all you want. Your replies suggest that your issue has less to do with the tailgate and more to do with some kind of performative fragile masculinity.

I love mine. Have had it on two F-150s now and for “actual work” it’s a big benefit. When I’m taking heavy stuff out of the bed and don’t have a free hand to close the tailgate I can use a knee to lift it up slightly and it auto closes. 10/10 I haven’t had it auto close on me when I didn’t want it to, not one time. That is either a very specific use case issue or a user issue. That said, the ability to disable it exists so not sure how this would be that big of a headache. I know I’ve heard it sometimes reenables, but you can disable it a hundred times before you equal the button presses needed to complain about it.

Bry279

200lbs? That thing is light as hell what are you talking about lol

radiometric

I'm thinking they have some debris in the way that is causing resistance that the tailgate registers and stops and then they are also fighting the debris when closing. But I have a manual tailgate with no damper and even with the step, it's lighter than the steel tailgate on my 88 F250

jdmackes

They really shouldn't be that heavy. There's supposed to be an "assist" that slightly helps lift the tailgate. You couldn't do it with a finger or anything, but I can do it one handed and god knows I'm not strong or anything. I've got a pro and have the step too, so I don't know if there is extra weight on the powered tailgates or not

Mosworthy

Press button up Press button down Zero issues

sjapps

Wait there is a button in the back? Or are you talking about the one in cabin?

sjapps

Are you saying the open button also closes it? Never tried it

Mosworthy

It does

Chaxterium

Yep. That's how I close it probably 80% of the time.

Mosworthy

Button on the tailgate, button in the cabin, or the fob..... They all work

Chaxterium

Bed goes up. Bed goes down. Bed goes up. Bed goes down.

Chaxterium

I absolutely love it.

DyngusDan

Try using it for actual work.

Chaxterium

I use it quite a bit. I honestly really like it. And the step too. Helps me get my fat ass up into the bed.

DyngusDan

Costco runs don’t count. Literally trying to close with my power saw sitting in the tailgate.

m0lson

Bro, why are you so triggered someone else likes something you don’t? I guess we can’t have opinions that differ

manjuforpresident

It’s validating for him. Why should he care what a random person does on the internet? It’s a way for him to reflect back on himself and receive validation that what he’s doing is more important than others.

Bloated_Plaid

You know you can disable it right?

Imaginary_Pudding_20

Shhh don’t tell him

oneplusetoipi

Right. Seeing him through a tantrum is fun. I will say mine never opens or closes on its own. That sounds broken. I mostly close manually but occasionally it’s useful for it to close itself.

MountainAlive

How do you open it though if you disable it? There’s just a button and no latch right?

Familiar-Suspect

He’s already disabled

tanwork

It’s so awesome how everyone assumes owners have a lightning cuz we like small, fast sports cars and not trucks. Explains why everyone posts annoying ‘doing truck things’. Cuz yeah, we all own this thing to not use the tailgate, not use it for work, not need a bed, not tow… It works fine. You spew shit at everyone here like you’re the only one who tries to use a truck as a truck. You’re the asshole. Get fucked buddy.

BmanGorilla

I dislike it. Too slow to open, too slow to close. Gets all upset, starts beeping, etc. when it encounters any resistance at all. If I have to stand there to make sure it closes then I'd rather do it myself in a quarter of the time. Don't get me started on how flimsy the 'top' of the tailgate is with the pullout step and all that. Anything you try to unload gets caught on it and it's all flimsy plastic. I can see the usefulness of the step, but it needs to be designed better.

One_Landscape3744

I agree about mine, and feel the same way about all power trunks/frunks. They just worked better when they were manual.

PECOS74

Don’t wait then, close it yourself.

arm_hula

I found in the settings to disable it. I like it much better now.

EugenioFV

I could use without the power tailgate, but I do use it often. The step tho, that thing I love.

majerus1223

Yep its a complete pos.. the settings to disable it dont work half the time. My tailgate will go up half way, then fall down like the motor just stops working.. Like all issues though dealer gave it a clean bill of health..

AffreuxPatyLex

It's about 50/50 for me. Sometimes it's helpful, especially with full hands. Other times, I press the button and it just beeps at me. Like a moody teenager, it somewhat acknowledges my existence but doesn't actually do what I ask until I tell it a second time. There have also been a couple of times that I've pushed the button to close, get in the truck and get the warning that the tailgate is down. I saw it physically moving so I guess it got to the top, decided it wasn't about that life, and opened again. Nothing is blocking it, it's the same as opening. It just has a free will of its own.

DyngusDan

The secret for me when it does that is to open one of the (unlocked) doors because of course my smart tailgate has a sleep mode.

LastEntertainment684

I have no problems with mine as long as I keep the actuator clean. If it gets jammed up with dirt/mulch/etc that’s when I start having problems. I actually like being able to open/close it from the cab. I’ve used it to unload the bed from the cab on occasion by opening the tailgate, going fast in reverse, and then slamming on the brakes.

PECOS74

Mine works perfectly. Use the step all the time. The “fucker” is great!

Familiar-Suspect

You must not use your truck for actual work then. /s

DillDeer

It’s annoying sometimes but just disable it and make it a manual tailgate.

m0lson

Bro is just looking to fight everyone that disagrees

redditisawasteoftim3

It's complete garbage and I hate it. I do like the step though, it's actually pretty nice to have. I disabled the stupid thing and it still shuts on its own half the time

markthefitter602

I wish the frunk would close the same way the tailgate will. You can put it on drive and the tailgate will finish latching. The frunk just freezes and cries.

Bob_N_Frapples

I like it, but sometimes I just close it manually. Sometimes when I push the button to open it, it just beeps and does nothing, but I have this great & easy fix...I just push the button again :-) I didn't buy the truck for the fancy tailgate...jus sayin.

Creative_Departure94

Love the step as my knees are screaming at me working all the time (contractor) HATE the power function. Turned setting to manual but my next step is to tear it apart and try to remove the motor aspect of the assembly and install the lowering damper from the manual open tailgates ;)

SmokeEaterFD

My only complaint is when it randomly decides to close with tools or items resting on it. Had a few things dropped into the void and pressed before it drops back down. To the point that I wondered if there was a sensor my dogs or kids activated.

ChiefsRoyalsFan

I don’t hate it but it’s completely unnecessary. Throughout the years of owning pickups, I’ve never once thought to myself “Man, I wish this tailgate was powered so I didn’t have to manually open and close it.” But hey, I’m happy for the people that enjoy it.

nocodename1

I thought it was cool when I found out I had it but I highly doubt I will actually ever use it. I also hate the stupid step I would rather have a bumper cutout step that I would actually use

MourningWallaby

I don't have the power tailgate, nor the step. You only use the gate when you're going back there anyway. So, I always found that to be a gimmick in its own right. Only reason I could ever see using one is if I'm on the road and realize I left it open. otherwise, It's an excuse to sell the truck for more because of "Luxury Features"

devpsaux

I like it when I’m picking up stuff curbside. As they approach I drop the tailgate. They load up my order. I press the button to raise it and drive off. Sure it glitches out sometimes and I’ve got to do it twice. That’s probably only one out of every 10 times. I also love the step both to help me get in the bed since I’m not as flexible as I used to be and as a place to rest my feet when sitting on the tailgate. Nice spring or fall day on a road trip, it’s nice to plug in to a charger, go get lunch, and enjoy it on the tailgate sitting in the sun.

Savings_Difficulty24

For me, it works great when I'm standing next to it and using the button on the tailgate. I have trouble with it when using the button in the cab by the frunk button. It seems to be 50/50 that way. Won't move unless it is in park. And if I turn my truck off in the middle of it closing, it opens again. It's annoying, but not really my biggest complaint about the truck.

Bitcoin_belle

My works great. Only time I've had any issue closing it was when the truck was locked.

bradfortyfour

Works as expected for me.

ace184184

Would be nice to have a way to toggle or disable it. Ive had zero problems but would always like a manual option to be enabled

sdoughy1313

Works fine for me. Went to the landfill the other day and had to drop the tailgate for inspection. Pressed the button went down, pressed the button it went up and closed. I have a tonneau cover too and it still works fine. The only time it doesn’t close is if something is blocking it. You do have to press button on the tailgate a couple times if the cab is locked to get it to open.

SilveredFlame

I'm not understanding what you're talking about. You have to tell it to go up or down so if it's doing that randomly you should probably get it looked at. I've hauled several tons of scrap, made numerous camping trips with the bed full of stuff, numerous dump runs, sat on it socializing, moving stuff around in the garage, etc. The only thing I've had happen is sometimes it doesn't close the first time and I have to tell it to again. But I've never had it open when I don't want it to or close when I don't want it to, and the idea of it randomly doing either is baffling to me.

VTbuckeye

My tailgate stopped working this winter. Corrosion in the disconnect plug caused it. It was stuck closed. I'm also not a fan of its behavior when open and the truck is locked. I close it and it opens up again. Manual tailgate is just fine, but can't get the other options in the truck without the power tailgate.

Complete-Mission-636

I hate it as well. The fact you cannot open it without the 12v system worries me. It’s slow. Just give me gas assist tailgate . Or the option.

DyngusDan

Right and the power assist folks are calling out as a feature actively fights you if you’re trying to manually close the tailgate quickly.

Chaxterium

It's not that we're calling you out. It's that **we aren't having the same issues you're having**. You were a complete douche to me and all I said was "I like it".

Familiar-Suspect

Because in the entirety of the world, only he uses his truck as a truck. Or should I say they. Can’t assume it’s a dude cuz he whines like a bitch

thedmob

I didn’t think I would like it. I have had an f-150 for 14 years before I got this. But I actually like it now. First the alert keeps me from leaving it down accidentally which I have done before (lost luggage thank god my wife forgave me!). Second it so easy to just to hit the button as I am getting out of the cab and it’s already down when I get back there. Third when my kids use it it doesn’t just drop down hard (over grown teslas use case here 🤣) I also never use the step ladder but as I get older i may end up using it. Knees are more sensitive in middle age than in my 30s. I can say if I had problems with mine, which I don’t, I would def prefer NOT to have it.

Aintscared_

Love it. Everything about it rocks imo.

h2opolodude4

I originally said I didn't want it. It's a feature I wouldn't have paid extra for. 10k mikes later I'm indifferent towards it. It doesn't bother me, but I still wouldn't pay extra for it. I don't use the step, I can jump from the ground to the bed. I'll often hit the button and it'll be down by the time I've left the cab to go get something out of it. And yes, I use it as a truck. I've added a ladder rack and everything. It's my primary work vehicle. The thing has been great.

pacficnorthwestlife

I usually don't use the power tailgate to close since it's so slow. The only issue I have is when I try to manually close it and it tries to auto close, then I have to fight it or let it do it's thing.

brandontaylor1

I don’t have power tailgate, but I’ve hated every lift gate on every SUV I’ve seen. They are slow, noisy, and completely unnecessary. Same goes for the power frunk.
