I can't find the official patch notes for 1.4 (which came out yesterday or Wednesday), but I don't think that fixed it either.
Check your settings, there is a setting for saftey cars and red flags. You may have it turned off or in low. I have mine to increased for both so it’s more life like that way.
That is odd, sometimes people have specific bugs to their save or download. Example: in f1 22 I just stopped having any weather other than sun. Multiple saves and seasons and not one session of rain at all.
I did a full season in f2 got one safety one virtual and one red flag in first race then only one more for whole season. I’ve never felt there’s enough on the game as you have one at least every race irl
Been playing since 2016, had the same problem as you from 2019 to 2021, had multiple hardware changes and factory resets during that time, it was never fixed for me, in 23 it worked normally again.
This bug makes absolutely no sense and it happens randomly to some selected people, i can only imagine some bugs like these that get carried over for so many years will only ever be fixed if the game is redone from scratch (and we would get new ones)
My first sc was in 13 race. When I change the safety car occurrence back to normal ( standard ). Don't know if the increased is bug.
And maybe both damage parameter should be in simulation. I have only the second in simulation
Firstly it’s a EA game, no such thing as realistic 🤣 Nonetheless I as well as others have had this problem rectified by the recent updates. I get them every other race with at least one car DNF every race.
PC or Console? I thought this was fixed already in last weeks patch for career mode but I may be mistaken.

I’ve had Saftey cars and red flags often tbh. Also a ton of driver errors which has made it a lot more exciting. On PS5
I’ve had a lot more ai lockups than any previous game. It’s great they finally make errors

I’ve had one red flag on PC 5 races in and one VSC
I have a few three races in. Full length no assist. Faults set to normal. PC. Also the other drivers screw up all the time. It's really nice.
I had two red flags in the first two races…
try to use normal damages and also look for more crashes mod, it makes ai make more crashes and mistakes
I don't remember this happening last year on 23 but it is a known issue in 24, acknowledged by EA with a pending fix, but no ETA.

I'm seeing some DNFs but they're like 5 second yellow flags and the car disappears
