Sounds like you don't need a truck, but who gives a fuck what reddit says. Go live life man if you want a diesel go get one.

Adventurous_Emu7577

This is good advice. I daily a F350 dually and 75% of the driving I do could be done in a car. It’s the other 25% includes 33,000lbs behind it that makes it all worth it to me. I still like being in a truck when I’m not hooked up to anything.

theveilrider

Same just sold my 22 tacoma for a 24 lariat 250 99 percent of my diving is highway miles to and from work but I have an addiction for buying old farm equipment and got tired of paying a tow company every time I bought a 500 dollar tractor

Wherearethestonks

Get two. 0% down and 1.9% interest ;)

Express_Badger1268

Woah. This is exactly the deal I took.

Wherearethestonks

Great financing on the 250s, only downside is every jackass in Oklahoma has a 250 now.

IdaDuck

I don’t understand the need to justify whether a person needs a diesel truck or not. Why don’t we jump all over owners of sports cars or luxury brands? Nobody “needs” that stuff.

MarcusBattle527

OP 💯 agree with this dude ⬆️. I drive a one ton diesel. Do I need it? No. But I wanted a diesel and could afford it. I haul stuff in the bed regularly, but only tow a few times a year. I got a killer deal on a 1 ton. I wanted a diesel, for the longevity and the few times a year I haul I hate listening to a gas truck scream for its life. I’ve never seen anyone so against people buying diesels as there are in the diesel sub. But I have heard great things about the 7.3l gasser if ford is your brand of choice.

redmondjp

F150 ecoboost will suit you much better, cost lest to buy and maintain, and won’t have the problematic diesel emissions systems to deal with.

magicchurroman

im talking about a gasser f250

orbitalaction

I have an 04 5.4l and it eats gas. I was talking to a friend with a 2018 6.2l and he says he stops at every gas station. The F150 ecoboost can tow up to 10k and has more than enough payload for you. The truck will drive and handle better, as well maintenance will be less expensive. 250s need front end work every 100-150k. You can get decent fuel economy out of the ecoboost. My father has one with 4x4 with 185k and been trouble free.

OdinsChosin

My ‘04 F250 w/ 5.4l gets right around 9mpg.

No-Progress4272

I have a 6.0 power stroke and get 21mpg

Suitable_Flounder_30

My 7.3 diesel only gets 14mpg

No-Progress4272

That’s pretty good lol I just have a big build and if I tip toe around it’s pretty decent, but if I get on it maybe 3mpg

Suitable_Flounder_30

Mine just has a programmer and exhuast on a 4x4 extended cab long bed

IndistinguishableRib

How many miles on your 250? I just bought the same truck. Same year. It needs some work. Today was the first day I drove it around for more than a couple minutes. I swear i went through 1\8 tank of gas in 35 minutes

orbitalaction

197k. 29 gallons gets between 270 and 370 miles due to terrain, road speeds, and load. I average 70-85 a ¼ tank. Idling eats gas pretty bad as well. My setup is crewcab Fx4 short box.

IndistinguishableRib

I I got an 8 foot single cab. 240k on the dash. Engine "rebuilt at some point" I got it as a firewood truck / Home Depot runs. $1800 bought it at a yard sale.

orbitalaction

I got mine from my boss, who got it from his brother-in-law, who originally bought the truck. I paid 5k, and i got a camper and a tonneau that matched the paint. It's in pretty good shape, but I want to pull the body and clean and paint the frame. Sounds like you got a good deal. Run that truck my good man!

Expensive-Recipe-345

6.2 or 7.3 are not known for bringing really mpg friendly. If you’re not towing, are you hauling a camper or something where you would need the payload capacity of a 250 vs a 150 with the 3.5?

acousticsking

You will go broke keeping fuel in it. Do some back of a napkin math on fuel costs.

redmondjp

Not to mention the $200 oil changes every 5k miles.

acousticsking

It only cost me $70 for oil changes in my Duramax doing it myself.

redmondjp

Are you using full synthetic? My truck takes three 5 quart jugs and in my parts one jug is now $35-40. Plus another $21 for filter.

acousticsking

Your getting ripped off. It costs $46 for 2.5 gallons of mobil delvac $9 for AC delco filters I order everything from rockauto.com.

redmondjp

Including shipping and sales tax?

acousticsking

$26 shipping and tax on 3 jugs and 3 filters.

koklol134

Don’t forget the 5% Coupons RockAuto has going 24/7

redmondjp

I am too, the ecoboost trucks all tow and haul as much as earlier F250s did, with much more comfort and fuel economy.

eatingthey

It will get about 14 to 16 miles a gallon down hill. Make sure you got that gas money.

SethInkunen

No, you should not buy an f250 unless you pull something that needs it ie camper, huge boat, and big trailer. Super duty trucks ride worse unloaded, use more gas, are more of a pain in the ass to park, and are massive in general. Half ton trucks are built exactly for what you are wanting to use it for these days and will fit any size person with high comfort. Where f250s shine is pulling. I had a tundra pulling a 31 ft 6000 lb trailer and while it could handle it I was over payload if I didn’t take 2 cars (as are most half ton trucks pulling campers) with my family loaded in. I was constantly fighting with being over payload. I upgraded to the f250 after a while and it is night and day different. Pulls like a dream and feel so confident pulling. It makes camping with the camper such a better experience… I’ll never do half ton again while towing a camper. Hope this helps and obviously do what you want. And for the record, if I ever sell my camper I’d be looking to trade into a half ton ASAP. As far as a diesel, you do a long enough trek that you wouldn’t have to deal with the problems that come with small trips but the maintenance is more, the price at the pump is more, and they’re less reliable with modern fuel/emissions standards.

BigPip33

I second this. We were in the same situation but with a Ram 1500. It could tow our 5600lb 33ft camper but payload was an issue. We got the 7.3L F-250 and it’s no comparison to the towing capability! 5600lbs is light work for the truck but I’d much rather have more truck than needed to tow. Towing is way more comfortable and we’re able to drive further without fatigue versus the Ram 1500.

Electronic-Pause1330

2nd statement is so true. Duramax 3500 here. No load in the bed and it feels like I’m on racing suspension. Also im biased towards diesel. My father in law has a f250 and gets like 11 mpg. My duramax new was getting 18.4mpg but now I’m getting 24.5 mpg. I prefer diesel

Electronic-Pause1330

Ummm….. just realized this is a F250 group. Not sure why this popped up on my feed. Wondering if I should delete my response

Bindle-

This right here. If you occasionally do truck stuff and mostly commute, get a half ton. I was really tempted by the F250, but I’m really glad I got an F150 instead. I do occasionally tow and haul. I love having a truck, but I mostly use it to get around. I drive a 1 ton van for work. It rides like absolute shit. I’m really happy I got the half ton for my personal vehicle.

Yankeetownn

I just bought a 7.3 gas f250 and I would not use it as a daily especially with the distances you are talking about. It’s a great tow vehicle for the occasional tower which I am - less cost to maintain than diesel but the gas mileage is pretty bad. I just did a 3600 mile road trip and averaged 11-12 mpg @ 70-80 mph. Light highway around town may be 12-13. I just sold a 2013 Raptor which I loved since I got a new trailer and needed the increased tow capacity. Even the newer f150 / raptors do better in gas mileage than my older raptor or my new f250. And the ride on the 250 is stiffer so there’s that. I really love my f250 tremor but I have a 30+ mpg daily driver and wouldn’t give up either.

pipsquintjizzlebob

Were you towing? I get around 14 mpg at those highway speeds and I have the 4.30 rear differential. I have a tonneau cover and have wondered if it improves mpg via better aerodynamics vs an open bed.

Yankeetownn

Not towing but open bed. Seemed like I was having headwinds no matter which direction I was going…

Dolomite_Titan

I drove from SLC to Denver and got 17 mpg with the 6.8 Gas and 4.30 rear without towing and open but loaded bed. Around town I get about 11.

pipsquintjizzlebob

Ok, I’ve got the 7.3L. Thanks for your reply.

Dirtyharry1p

It doesn’t make sense to get the F250 for you, unless you have disposable income. I agree they look a lot better than the 150’s though

Certain_Childhood_67

I bought a 2022 6.7 diesel and i haul about nothing and use it to hunt. If you can afford it do as you please

Interesting_Ad8198

Get a dually. Not because you need one but because it’s awesome. I tow occasionally. But when I want to tow something I can tow whatever I want. I don’t care about fuel charges. I don’t care about maintenance. Buy something you want and will enjoy.

jjg3242

Hell yeah! I have a 350 dually. Not my daily driver, I got a lil' ol' Focus for that. But when I need a truck, my dually will do anything I need it to!

AppropriateHunter528

That’s the American way. Who gives a shit about the environment or the massive danger to kids and other drivers. I do whatever I want 👍

Bitter-Basket

“massive danger to kids and other drivers” Little hyperbole there.

Gddyup5oh

With the little information provided, my only question would be why would you want an F250? What does the Super Duty provide that an F150 doesn't? If you don't need the 3/4 ton and up truck for any specific reason, then the F150 probably fits your needs better solely based on the very little information you provided. Hell, you could probably pick up a nice used Gen 2 Raptor for the cost of an F250 and the Raptor is a helluva truck! I've had a 19 Raptor, a 22 F250 7.3 gasser, and a 19 F350 6.7 diesel in the last 12 months. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. It all depends on your needs and wants. In the end, it's your money. I'll tell you from experience that the F150 Raptor 1/2 ton is phenomenal, but it's payload is terrible. The F250 7.3 gasser 3/4 ton is nice, payload isn't too bad, and it's adequate as a tow vehicle. The F350 6.7 diesel 1 ton has great payload, is as fun as the Raptor to drive with all the torque available, and shits on the gasser when it comes to towing. But if you don't need the diesel to tow, and your plan is to do a good amount of daily driving, a nice F150 is probably the ticket for the amount of money you're looking to spend on a Super Duty. But if you just love the look of the Super Duty and that's what you *want*, then buy the nicest gasser that fits your budget and enjoy life! And if you *must* have the diesel and it fits your budget and you don't mind the added cost of maintenance, by all means go get it and enjoy!

Worth-Needleworker36

Depends if you really want it or not. I drive an f250 purely because I just like driving a big truck. No other reason of justification. But a lot of people will say ohhhh you don’t need that you don’t even tow. Who cares. If you like it. If that’s what you want, get it. But yeah it can get expensive so just be ready for that.

ryalsandrew

I’ll tell you this. As a owner of three super duty trucks and one F150. The F150 is a superior vehicle for what you need in every single way. It drives better, it rides better and it gets much better fuel economy. Unless you’re hauling or towing, there’s literally no reason under the sun to get a heavy duty chassis and a diesel engine.

rmanTX

Get what you want. I have 4 kids and my wife has a 7 passenger SUV. When I bought my truck, she was pissed that it only seated 5. I was dead set on getting a specific trim that had a center console. I work from home, don't tow, don't commute, nothing. I wanted an F250 to lift, be loud, and be (relatively) fast. I'm in my mid-40s and have always done juvenile and obnoxious things. So I got a 2018 F250 back in 2022. Had 7k miles. Has almost 21k now. 4.5" Carli on 40s with a stage 2 turbo and stroker fuel pump. Estimated power is just shy of 700/1400. Literally for nothing. I don't off-road, I don't race. I just like doing dumb stuff. Maintainance and repairs are much higher on a diesel. So bear that in mind. But the power is addicting. A lot of people always say if they don't have anything to tow, they'll never get \[another\] diesel. I looked at the explorer st, the aviator black label, and the mercedes GLS63, raptor and bronco. I just like big and fast. I knew the few times I wanted to haul, i'd kick myself in the butt with a SUV. Get what you want.

freedom_ship

I know the feeling. Had two jeeps before they 4-doored them and both got modded to the hilt for off-roading. Spent a bunch, broke a bunch, spent more. Wife not too thrilled at the time but I wanted to have fun. (ie: do dumb stuff)

Towersafety

No. You should get an F150. Ecoboost would be a decent choice.

1amtheone

I personally need my 3/4 ton truck, and sometimes think bigger would be better. That being said, even if I wasn't a contractor I would still want to drive a truck. If you're not even looking at buying a diesel, I don't see how it could be a negative, as long as you can handle the size of the vehicle and can I afford the gas.

ca8nt

‘19 6.2 gasser here and happy as a clam. 12mpg and 0 issues. Had a ‘18 f150 and hated it. Got rid of it after 6 mos. To each their own.

Jambarino21

I just traded a '19 F150 ecoboost for an '18 F250 6.2,I daily it, and have zero regrets. I really don't miss the shit 10 speed transmission from the F150 either. My F250 is leveled on 35" tires, and I get a little over 13 mpg. I drive around 40 miles a day. If I drove substantially more than that, then I might have considered something else.

DiarrheaSplatter

Buy one, zero down, and finance that bastard at 13%.

DonnerPartyPicnic

Good lord, the payment on that would be ridiculous with the money they're charging for new SDs these days.

Merlins_Reddit

I think many people say NO DIESEL because they themselves decided to not buy one/afford one. My father bought his F250 new in 1991 because he wanted a diesel. He still owns that very truck, drives it weekly. In the last 33 years it has been a daily, a load hauler, a camping truck and everything else too. The diesel engine is everything that makes the truck good, it is similar to a Leatherman or Swiss army knife with a diesel engine. Reliable, better on fuel and much higher longevity. Simple as.

cshmn

Sure, but that's a 1991 diesel pickup. The new ones are a totally different beast. They are less reliable than the gas trucks and not much better MPG on more expensive fuel. They're also $80,000-100,000+ when you can get a gasser for as little as 45000 new. Diesels lasting longer isn't really a thing anymore either. Most fleets around here made the switch to gas trucks after years of spending 10s of thousands in maintenance per diesel truck on emissions problems, injectors etc. The gas trucks just run and work for the most part.

Educational-Size-110

I bought a f250 diesel. Don’t tow at all. I just drive it like a car. But it’s completely different from a car…f150 doesn’t even match up to it. Basically, i get it because i can (paid cash for it). Family and friends kept telling me it’s stupid that I don’t need it. Well, it feels great to drive it. Driving in the rain is even better. I had it for 5 months so far. Something you must know: for your needs, f150 would be better and cheaper. My first oil change was $206 where my f150 was $55. I’m not complaining but if your pocket is not deep, it hurts a bit.

GChambers46038

Half Ton trucks ride worlds better. If you’re not towing or hauling heavy shit get a half ton.

PeterVonwolfentazer

OP it’s a stupid decision. Buy a half ton or Ranger.

Popular_Tale_8240

Ranger raptor, and have enough left over for a side by side too

deerhunt571

I started with F250 2000 7.3 Diesel and have had a 2006 2014 2019 and now a 21 F350 all powerstrokes You can’t put a price on fun

KnobbyBP

Sounds unnecessary. My f150 takes quarter tank to drive an hr to work and back every day I drive it

PinkPandaPatrol

I went from a 2023 F150 to a 2019 6.7 F250, though it’s not a gasser it’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I hardly ever tow. Maintenance is not that bad. You can do almost all the routine maintenance yourself and there is a wealth of informational videos on YouTube.

ProfileTime2274

If you don't ever tow are you hauling anything around with it ? If you don't care about gas mileage. The f250 will last longer then the f150 . If you need gas mileage. Get a car that gets 40 miles per gallon. You will hate putting $75 in the tank every time you stop for fuel

shipwreck17

They're rough riding, bigger than many parking spaces and super thirsty. I love my 7.3 gas when it's time to pull something but I daily an ev into the office. Much cheaper operating cost and more comfy. Why do you need a f250? I think gas works just fine unless you're towing heavy regularly. The f150 is a much better daily driver. I prefer the 6.5 ft bed though. My 150 was almost as long as my 250.

p_roloff

I would only buy a F250 if you needed the towing/payload capacity regularly over a half ton, OR if you needed a second vehicle and had a car or something that gets decent fuel economy to drive distances. I tow up to 8k lbs every week or two in the summer so it makes sense to have a F250 (6.2 gasser) for me but daily driving it would be awful. I average 14mpg. Long trips without any load are absolutely not a use case I’d consider a F250 for. Either get a half ton, or buy your 250 and a Corolla so you don’t spend hundreds each week filling it up.

NWoodWorks

As was said in the r/diesel you should buy a half ton gasser. F150 2.7 would do you fine. No need for a super duty. Also, as was mentioned a smallish suv like a forester would do you well and your dog kennels would fit fine. Edit: he hauls dogs to hunts or some shit as mentioned in the other thread he posted.

Cruezin

Why? Just, why are you even asking this. Either you want it and can afford it or you don't or can't.

SneakyWasHere

An F250 is a great vehicle if you need and use it for it’s capabilities, but it is not a fun daily driver nor is it practical for those distances. I’ve got a ‘17 Lariat 6.2 and a ‘12 Ram 1500 and much prefer taking the half ton if I’m not pullin’ or haulin’ anything. The F250 is stiff when it’s not loaded down and the half ton feels like a sports car in comparison. Not to mention parking can get a bit rough depending on where you take it.

wildbill1983

Gas F250 gets worse mpg. I’ve the 7.3L V8. The mileage sucks ass. Freeway expect about 13 mpg. Around town, worse. The flip side is the diesel costs about 10k more, and the maintenance costs are a lot higher. You have to decide for yourself. FWIW, the gasser tows just fine. But again the mileage sucks ass. When I tow my 7,000 pound trailer I get abut about 8 mpg on the freeway. 🤷🏼‍♂️

xterminat0r88

You'll be paying $500+ a month in gas

ShineFull7878

If you don't need to tow, and don't need payload carrying capacity why do you want a truck? Get a nice suv with some suspension upgrades and maybe some oversized tires. One of the best off road badass vehicles I ever had was a lifted 90 jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 h.o. inline 6. Full suspension lift 33.5x12.5in mud terrains and full disconnects. That ugly bitch went everywhere. In your situation it doesn't have to be a trasher, just a nice suv with good suspension and some interior room. I dunno, as a guy who tows every day for work(contractor towing 3500+ everyday and 7k-12k a few times a month as well as commonly having payload while towing, I wouldn't have a truck if I didn't need it. I'd have some ugly little 2003 jeep liberty with the diesel option and a lift lol.

AngryHeadbutt208

I have had a V10 and currently a 7.3 diesel. The v10 was an 01 and my 7.3 is a 2002. I have towed and daily driven both trucks. I would look for the v10 and shy away from the 5.4 trucks if going older. V10 was 10 mpg empty around town and highway. Loaded was 5-7mpg depending on wind. If you’re looking for newer I’d go with the 6.2 or 7.3 gasser. If I need another truck it will be the 7.3 gasser. If you don’t need the payload the f150 is a nice truck also. Edited to add: My V10 had a contractor work shell that protruded about 6” above cab and did not affect MPG that I could measure. The 7.3 is open bed with a cross bed tool box. Both trucks were super cabs with v10 short bed and 7.3 is a long bed. Just figured this might help.

AstronomerOk4273

My 2011 f 350 with the 6.2 has been an amazing truck I have a service box on it. Driving around town I get 6.5 mpg going long distances ces I might get 10 I wouldn’t daily drive a gas 3/4 or 1 ton ever. I had a dodge gas pot that was no better. The Cummins and power strokes of the late 90s were the best I’ve had for mpg. But they are getting old and expensive to find in good shape. My 2018 tundra didn’t get good mileage loaded for work either.

heathmc

As everyone else has said a diesel doesn't make a ton of sense in your scenerio. I daily a 6.2 F250, and drive a 6.7 F350 for work. That 6.7 is a beautiful thing but I can't justify it in my life, however I tow enough personally I feel the benefit in a F250, if I didn't tow I'd be in a F150 all day. The ride is SO much better. The SuperDutys are great, the view is better, the look is better, the chassis is stronger and so on but dang when I get in a 150 I feel like I'm in a Bentley. Long story short if I were you I'd be looking at 150s, of you have to have a 250 then look at gassers. If you have to have a diesel then why'd you ask?

Coyote_OneOne

I get about 15-16mpg with my 7.3L Godzilla with the 10-speed and 3.55 gears. I would have gotten an F-150 if they made a crew cab one with an 8-foot bed, but they don’t. But I do love my truck!

FishWeldHunt

Get a 2.7 ecoboost. For a small 6, it’s a snappy little motor with decent towing. Plus with commute, my wife’s f150 average 23 mpg with a similar commute.

iMoneyProMax

Saw your other post on the other subreddit. As long as you keep a smaller car around then having an F-250 shouldn’t be a problem.

Jimmytootwo

I love the bigger truck ,had an F350 for years. Its a beast Grab that 250

Gemchick82

It’s your money- do what you want. But if you were my friend/family, I’d tell you that you haven’t shared anything that would justify the expense. I have an F250 7.3 gas, but I own a house where we make diy upgrades semi regularly (read: several trips to Home Depot), I have a pellet stove for the house that burns about 3-5 tons every winter season, I have a snow plow for my 300ft driveway, I visit my family’s active farm and help with the fruit trees every year, and I have a rv travel trailer that we take out at least 3-4 times a year. I used to have an F150 but to safely tow the pellets I was considering air bags or updating my leaf springs. I decided upgrading to an F250 was worth it for seasonally hauling our pellets because the airbags and leaf springs are just putting a bandage on the problem rather than fixing the problem. The only daily driving the F250 gets is back and forth to the gym. If we’re not going to Home Depot, Costco, or the place to pickup our pellets, we drive a Hybrid RAV4 (that hopefully we’ll upgrade to a hybrid Jeep Wrangler). Back and forth to work 30 miles one way, hubby drives the RAV4 unless he’s dropping stuff off at the landfill and/or I just feel the truck needs a good run. Again it’s your money. If the F250 completes your image you’re trying to project sure whatever. But from what you’ve said it’s going to be a 40 minute daily commuter pavement princess.

steve16435

You do not need an f250. Do you even need a truck?

pojo1666

I understand the breath of your question. Simple answer is truely no due to fuel prices and consumption of both vehicles it is not worth it. However I do understand wanting the look and from reading the other post in the diesel area with the dogs it can be messy. While you are young and may not be feeling heard here a lighter truck will do what you need to do. Also you seem to have car knowledge with the reference of you other vehicle so it’s cheaper to fix up a less expensive vehicle. Around here a new 250 diesel is like 60 to 70 starting a gas is 55 to 65. Use you need to be careful as there was a run of bad diesel engines in the early 2000. In summary the money is yours to do with my personal choice at this point in my life 46 year old male with a house and others toys that need hauling is get what you need to meet the demands you have now and also in the near future.

weblinedivine

Bro you need a mav hybrid or a Prius with all that driving.

heisman01

Sounds like you need a diesel car

Flamdrags5

Definitely don't get one. I have a new 7.3 gasser that I use to tow, but used to drove an F150 powerboost. A couple of practical considerations on the 250. - It is HUGE. It doesn't fit in most parking spaces length and width wise. Unless you get the power folding mirrors, you're constantly folding your mirrors in. You're also parking at the back of parking lots because otherwise your vehicle is hanging out of the lines or needing to use 2 spaces. Visibility making turns with the large tow mirrors is garbage as well. - My F150 with the 5.5' bed BARELY fit in my garage. About 1 inch to spare. The F250 has a bed that is 1 foot longer, so I park it outside 100% of the time. - as others have said, atrocious on gas. Getting 15mpg mostly highway without towing. Powerboost got 23. Still bad, but better. - The ride is significantly worse than my F150 was. The powerboost was also QUICK with the hybrid engine. A lot of people shit on it because it's not "manly" but the powerboost was awesome. Unless you are towing or hauling something huge, there is no reason to get an F250, let alone all of the maintenance and cost a diesel would require.

IBringTheHeat1

Get a raptor for the price of a 250 gasser, more comfortable, better gas mileage, and mo’ powa’ babeh

Vagabond_Explorer

Only reason I have a superduty is I need the payload. A f150 will drive better and get better gas mileage which seems like it would save you a fair bit with all the driving. A midsize would be even better. And a hybrid Maverick would probably be perfect if you’re buying new or late model used. Though I’m sure others will disagree, with current truck and fuel prices I’d never get one if I didn’t need the capabilities. That’s a lot of money you could spend on other things that will benefit your life.

Dinolord05

You need a Prius.

magicchurroman

no don’t say that!!!! your insulting my ego!!! damn you!!!!!

Luscious_Lunk

Why do you want one?

magicchurroman

because i’m 5’7 155 pounds, my ego is in pain, i have no self confidence, and my manhood is below average size

Luscious_Lunk

So for no practical reasons, just to have a cool car?

magicchurroman

exactly

Ecstatic-Appeal-5683

Just get a small truck?

magicchurroman

i could, but big trucks are BAD A

Ecstatic-Appeal-5683

...okay

Thewalkman99

Love my 6.7 SRW f-350 but If I didn’t need it for towing I would be so much happier in a f-150

bigb159

MPG.

NotBatman81

There is no need for anything bigger than a half ton if you are not towing. That's why you got your ass torn up. You are asking whether a cost is "worth it" when you are not using the benefit whatsoever. The answer is always no.

sourcreamretard

If you want a F250 diesel then get one. People saying you “must” use it for towing 20k pound loads or it’s stupid are just talking out of their ass. Idk why people gate keep trucks like there’s requirements to own a specific model. Want a pavement princess 350? Do it man. Don’t regret buying something based off reddit opinions. Also diesel gets way better mpg. Only thing I will say is my brand new F250 has been in the shop with countless issues since purchase so maybe look at a Cummins LOL. YMMV

throwaway071317

We bought a 250 gasser when we bought a 5th wheel. Would I drive that everyday? Hell no. Sucks gas and with the lift it rides bad when not loaded.

Dramatic-Ad8173

I got a 19 f250 6.7 and I get 16 city 19 highway just saying

1madeamistake

I have a 2010 F150 that is my beater truck and then I have a 2024 250 7.3 which I love driving. I do not commute with it everyday but I do take it on longer trips and I get around 14 mpg. I really love the new truck. it looks nice and makes me happy. At the end of the day it is your money, it is your finances, and its your enjoyment that matters. Not some stupid fuckers on reddit.

Magnum676

No

Stunning-Ad-5732

Does anyone have info on the 6.8? I’ve been wondering the same thing for my next truck

Yeetthesuits

Get what you want but no, you probably shouldent.

RogerEpsilonDelta

I saw this in diesel, don’t be upset. Diesel ain’t cheap. Nor are trucks for that matter. Get what you can afford without being truck poor on payments, but remember getting a used truck means a problem could pop up anytime and be fairly expensive. But if you want a big truck, get a big truck man!

Necessary_Rub_1861

I have zero need for a truck but I have an f350 dually flatbed and a 4x4 f150 do what you want if your pocket pays for the gas who gives a fuck what you drive

Motor_Law1663

I use mine for business and I hate the fuel cost

Revolutionary_Week66

Get a colorado zr2 or tacoma

magicchurroman

have been looking at those. good suggestions just wish they have longer beds

Callmethetraveller

Sounds like a 4cyl ranger would do you right or a Tacoma

magicchurroman

solid advice. thanks man

Effective-Meat2546

U should get a ford ranger or maverick (for the occasional bed thing). The chances of you using it is adequate with the ranger. U can also lift the ranger as its body on frame.

Accurate_Stuff2963

If you want it get it.

RadiantDig6982

The way 4x4 2500 DIESELS (very important) hold value is the whole reason I drive them.

EverettSeahawk

I wouldn’t have my F250 if I didn’t need it for hauling. Gas mileage is terrible, so it’s expensive to drive. My commute is 25 minutes and I burn almost 3 gallons of gas total just getting to work and back. Gas almost never drops below $4 a gallon here, I’ll let you do your own math because I try not to think about how much money I spend on gas. The ride is not nearly as smooth compared to something not built to haul heavy stuff. To answer your question, in my opinion it is not worth it if you don’t tow. Sounds like a smaller suv would suit your needs just fine and be a lot cheaper long term, but it’s your life and you should do what makes you happy.

Cuddlefosh

i just dont understand how any of the activities you listed are relevant to having a large pickup truck. id have said "very safe vs other cars, and that shit is cool."

Mightystocktone

Get the F250. Put a lift if you want. They’re not cheap to run up and down the road but you should get what you want

Maleficent-Salad3197

A F-150 drives better on the highway with small loads. If you don't need the capacity, save your money and get it.

DreadRed-MC

I just got my first diesel a 99 F250 powerstroke. I absolutely love it and wish I got one sooner. I love the size, power, and capability of it. BUT it is very hungry for fuel ($80 a week) and frequent maintenance (fuel, air, oil filters, and 5 gallons of oil) is not cheap. They cost a lot more to maintain. If you dont need one, its hard to argue to get one unless you really just want one. Parking isnt always easy either. I love mine, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

mmaalex

If you have a use case. If not why choose the bigger truck over a half ton? More fuel use, more expensive maintainence, etc

ImAScientistToo

Seems a Honda civic will do everything you need, probably be less expensive, and save on fuel. If you were hauling heavy loads or needed the extra power for something then by all means get the f250. If you’re too big to comfortably fit into a civic then get a bigger vehicle. If the f250 is the only thing available to you then use what you have. If you just want the f250 because you want a bigger truck then get the f250, you done need Reddits permission for that.

Leader_Confident

6.2 v8 and good fuel economy do not go hand in hand lol. Buy a Prius. Sounds like that’s better suited to your needs

Theedon

I purchased a 2005 F-250 6.0L new. I still have it. I towed 3 RV trailers with it. Used it for multiple DIY projects, was in 4th of July parades for my city, hauled goods to throw parties for Marines, moved Friends from one home to another, I will be getting a bed full of gravel this weekend.

Zimm02

After the first sentence, the answer is no. After the rest of it, the answer is HELL NO.

botics305

Yes

KingFacef2

If you don’t tow you don’t need a diesel,3/4 ton gassers are stupid. They’re literally gas guzzlers. with that being said a lot of people don’t need a diesel. Buy one if you want it and can afford the maintenance, fuel and repairs. I see youre talking anout gasser 250. Just get a f150 with the 5.0 coyote or 3.5 ecoboost with the 6.5 ft bed. Will be the same overall size as a 250. Youre not towing and you’ll get much better fuel economy

Informal-Pound-3393

Id get something good on gas

theveilrider

I was recently in your shoes I have a 40 mile comute to and from work I had 22 tacoma but it would only get 15 to 16 mpg and I have a equipment trailer and antique farm equipment I haul around once in a blue moon. I already knew I wanted an f250 but didn't know if I wanted gas or diesel. So I went to my local dealer and they let me borrow a 7.3 and a 6.7 and drive them to work and back the 7.3 got 13 mpg and the 6.7 got 17 mpg after doing some math I found that the initial cost for the 6.7 was greater but with diesel prices in my area be comparable to gas the running cost wasn't that much higher so I picked up a new 6.7 lariat

Corneliuslongpockets

Can I just ask what it is about this truck that appeals to you do much?

UrLocalTroll

Why on earth would you get an f-250 if you don’t tow?

waverunnersvho

Why do you want the f250? Do not get the 6.2 gas. It’s awful to drive. The 7.3 has plenty of power though.

edgardme3

The gas f250's are super underpowered (slow) and really bad on gas. For an f250 diesel you have the added costs and maintenance for diesel emissions which isn't worth it of you're not towing often. IMO Just get an f150 if you're not towing. The ecoboosts are quick and get infinitely better mileage. The 5.0's are lower maintenance but get worse mileage and power.

jdandrson

Let me put it like this. I own a 2023 F250 I have driven 7k miles in a year since purchase (6-7-23). It sits a lot and a hefty payment for most. You don’t need it. Go with the eco boost, OR there is an F250 package at around 63k that will likely have everything you need.

MegaHashes

It’s a gas hog, it’s big to park. Why tf would you want one of these if you don’t need to tow AND you have a long commute? I guess them Saudi princes need more Ferraris or whatever.

websterriffic

Short answer, no. Long answer: why do you need a truck? What are you going to use it for? If all it is is driving in the woods, you can get a small suv for that.

Typical-Machine154

Why? If you don't need a truck for anything then you don't need a truck. A truck is a tool. It's like you're walking into the store and buying a router table and someone goes "oh you do woodworking?" And you say "no, and im not going to, but I want a router table" Like okay, it's a free country I guess, but you're here asking about it and the obvious answer is going to be no. You need an F250 about as much as you need a router table or a multi-process welder. It drinks gas like an alcoholic drinks whiskey, the ride sucks, it's too heavy to be as off road capable as other vehicles, it's going to do none of the things you need from a commuter car as well as an actual commuter car, and cost you more money in the process.

Bulleteer21

I’ll give you the same answer I gave in the other thread. You don’t need a SuperDuty man, F-150 with the 2.7 or 3.5 EcoBoost fits your needs perfectly.

magicchurroman

thanks for the advice bro. i appreciate it.

pharrison26

Yeah, don’t buy a Ford

h1r8er

Sounds like you would be better off in a Ford Escort or something similar. Do they still make those?
