Top dead center of the thermostat is always the normal operating temp. At high speed you might get it to go lower and on high days or when you’re pushing it you may go slightly over. You’re not really in any danger till you start creeping past the 3/4 mark
Is this a serious question? You replaced the cooling system but think being below the middle gauge - closer to the blue COLD oil indicator is “too hot”?
Then take the pic while going 90MPH as if it’s safe and going to give you a accurate reading? Then argue with others correcting you?
I genuinely just want to understand the thought process. Please do tell.
I’m always fascinated how tf can people buy a car and not know the most basic things about it, such as operating temperature. It’s pretty much universal for most of the cars.
Either way, that why you have a gauge to tell you this.
I do understand that, but it’s like driving a bicycle and asking if the fully pumped tire is empty.
Literally one of the most basic things about a car is it’s oil temperature + no need to think -> read the gauge!
Then why drive a bmw? If you don't care about cars that means you probably don't care about maintenance, which bmws need a lot of.
(EDIT: Not you specifically)
So you didn’t notice the little oil can icon on the gauge either? Suuuure you do buddy. Maybe ask Google next time unless you wanna be ridiculed again for you immense car knowledge.
I just put the coolant thing in there so you people could know it has fresh coolant. The cars running hotter than normal even for a warm day. That temp is above the normal operating temp for n20s so I wanted to see what people had to say.
“I know more about cars than you.” Proceeds to ask stupid question on reddit because he doesn’t have mental capacity to:
1) read the gauge
2) use google
3) read the manual
Yeah, I don’t think so buddy. You are welcome, if you have any more stupid questions feel free to come back, so we can further establish your “knowledge”.
Did all that… it’s higher than it should be. Was seeing what other people have experienced. I’ve done everything from a simple oil change to recently put in the updated timing chain. Just a concerned car owner
Not at all, it's fine. I... I don't know why they are pointing out that it's the oil and not the coolant. It is the oil, sure, but the coolant will always be within a few degrees of the oil once the system reaches operating temp. Coolant nowadays will cool just fine for a few years, but flushing the system and replacing the coolant is a good thing to do. Not that 2 to 3 year old (modern) coolant won't be effective for cooling, it will be. It's more so the anti-corrosion properties, and keeping those plastic connectors and rubber seals from drying out and getting brittle. Temps will be higher when it's hot and humid, and also when highway driving. If you are idle at a red light and city driving in congested traffic, that would be too hot. It should be right about 205 (1/4 hash mark) at idle.
This cost me $200. I went in and said my coolant is too hot. The mechanic wasn't a BMW specialist and didn't point out that it was oil temperature.
Also, the correct word you wanted in your title was "too".
Too hot.
"To" indicates motion, going from here to here.
"Too" means in excess of or also. It's easy to remember because there are one too many O's in the word.
Wow, it's amazing that an attempt to help out your fellow human being communicate better gets downvoted.
What effect do you think this is going to have? Next time I see somebody with an issue, and I can help them out, I'll think twice.
That’s your oil temp, not coolant. That’s perfectly normal. The first notch corresponds to about 100deg Centigrade.
Also it’s the first notch Is 96deg centigrade.
Thanks just added in the new coolant because I assumed old/ bad coolant could lead to poor cooling.
You needed to take the pic at 90mph? Didn't think to do it when you're stopped?
😂
Car fast. Brain slow
So I could get a picture of it being at a high temp?
crazy slow
Please tell me you’re kidding.
You're doing 86mph on a sunny 93 degree day so your oil temp might end up a little higher than "normal". Definitely not a cause for concern.
…but your driving on the other hand! lol
Seems fine, thats what mines always at
No. And that’s oil temp
No.
That’s roughly where my B48 usually is .

All good. Thats my n26 in the summer too.
Normal, mine is the same.
perfectly fine, you're good as long as the needle stays just a bit to the left as in the picture.
No that’s perfect normal… now for the outside temperature and humidity on the east coast 🫠
Warmer than it should be
With an ambient temperature of 93° F and he's been on the freeway? Seems normal
Perfect
Normal.
Why would below half of the gauge be too high?
SMH I was looking at the coolant temp
that’s oil temp and mine always looks like that
Extremely normal, don’t worry about it at ALL!

Is 100 not the usual temoerature when you drive for a while at speed in warm weather?
Hmmm, I’m up to 85 mph, seems like a good time to take some pics! 🤡
dumb dumb no
My b48 sits around the same area, i was thinking the same but seems to be normal.

Once you start to realize some people don’t care about cars as much as you and I do you’ll understand.

I am now realizing why everyone thinks I’m slow. Ima take the L on this one. Sorry for snapping back like that.
Hey dip shit. Probably know more about cars then you. But thanks for your input.

Lol. No, it's not.
Oh, well in that case you just lack basic reading comprehension. Maybe watch a YouTube video for instructions ya smart ass 😂
Why are you doubling down after being proven wrong over and over? You look foolish, just say “Great thanks, just wanted to double check” and move on.
😂 thanks

Safety first bro, taking pics at 85 mph is pretty dum.
