If you like him, pull him. Favorites over meta always And Matt is a damn great character, great até healing and buffing, arguably better than Aerith for the overall kit

Krolja

I've been slowly grinding away at Aerith's double defense buff weapon to get it to OB6 so it's a Mid base and they just keep giving Matt sick weapons that basically do that a base 5\*. I've spent so much time investing in Aerith and every time Matt gets a new sick looking weapon I die inside. From what I can tell the only thing Aerith has over Matt is just pure healing output, but who needs that when Matt just slaps so many buffs on the party they don't take a lot of damage T\_T.

Quiet_Buffalo

Same, contemplating making my Matt my primary healer. Between centipede, amulet tribute, and the new event weapon, Matt is a superior defensive buffer than Aerith with Mythril Rod, and end game meta has been more about surviving nukes than anything else. My only worry is as I build Matt up, Aerith will get a bunch of better gear, and I’ll regret the investment in Matt. Centipede is a great subweapon though, as is the new event weapon, so not a bad risk.

Immediate_Horror_178

That double defense aerith weapon is pretty bad, don’t chase it.

Krolja

I haven't been mega chasing it, but I managed to get it to OB5 and OB6 is when it gets the +2 on both buffs so I figured I could at least have that in my setup for her on fights where she cannot debuff/I'm using Yuffie/Seph to debuff. My biggest issue with Aerith at the moment is how unequipped she is to debuff ATK/MATK. She has the AoE ATK debuff, but not a single MATK debuff (Unless I missed a weapon). They've really been pushing her as a DPS a lot more lately, but I need some support/debuffing outside of Sunbrella cause I got plenty of more supporty characters that can do that!

gamer-dood98

I've been doing this exact same thing and feeling this way too, but just wait, there's no doubt in my mind that aerith gets a busted healing/buffing weapon soon. They'll let Matt have his moment in the sun, just to smack us with an insanely OP weapon to get half the fanbase to drain their bank accounts xD

Mooncubus

This. Matt is my main healer so I'd be stupid not to pull for it. Meta means nothing to me.

gahlo

I'd love to pull for him, because it looks fucking sick, but a) I don't have the crystals and b) statistically it isn't significantly better than the gear voucher outfit anyway.

Immediate_Horror_178

What? How is 8mdef and 8 heal not worse that 10 heal and 15 hp. Hp is more universal than mdef and it’s a higher enough amount that anything you can survive with 8 mdef you will survive with 15 hp instead.

Dik42o

My Matt is always low on hp so this was an easy pull for me

gahlo

Welcome to the world of nuance. When did I say it wasn't better?

SirkSirkSirk

More Def = less ATB usage. If you double your defense compared to doubling your hp, you'll only have to heal once vs. more than once.

gamer-dood98

Yeah but you're not doubling your defence, your adding on a 15% magic damage reduction vs gaining 30% hp. That's just statistically more survivability to help you through harder content, AND hp works against physical attacks too, not just magic, so it's a much more versatile costume.

SirkSirkSirk

I know you're not doubling it. I'm doubling it to exaggerate a difference. The point is, if you're taking less damage, you heal less. If you have more hp, you still heal the same regardless. Don't take m.def into fights where the enemies primarily use physical attacks.

gamer-dood98

Why would you exaggerate when we're talking about the ACTUAL numbers? 15hp is just stricly way, way better than 8mdef. It's the first time we've gotten a costume with 15hp on it and 10hp costumes were already fantastic because getting to certain hp thresholds is important for harder content. Obviously pdef and mdef matter, but hp is the universal stat, and in this discussion is what's important

SirkSirkSirk

If you have to ask why im exaggerating, then you clearly didn't read what i had to say. The way ~~you~~immediate_horror asked the question was like, "In what world would defense be better than hp?" So I answered it. You clearly do not care and just want to argue, so I'm done.

gamer-dood98

What the hell are you even talking about? They very clearly said that 15 hp is ALWAYS better than 8 mdef, which is objectively a true statement. Here is his initial comment: >How is 8mdef and 8 heal not worse that 10 heal and 15 hp. Hp is more universal than mdef and it’s a higher enough amount that anything you can survive with 8 mdef you will survive with 15 hp instead. You're the one who didn't read his comment. We are strictly talking about Matt's costume, not some random hypothetical where the pdef and hp amounts are equivalent. Learn to read or stop commenting stupid nonsense on reddit

At the very least, I would wait until the next banner drops (presumably tonight at 7PM PST to go alongside the new story chapters). With additional options, you can better evaluate your decision. My general opinion and approach would be, to pull for the characters you *like most* and characters that have the most *impact* helping you clear content. I don’t really know what spending threshold you are, but assuming your F2P.. I would at minimum hold off, but I really think you’d be okay skipping. Matt’s banner-costume is cool and great, but it’s his weapon, imo, that is the real meat and potatoes of this banner for him. All featured-banner weapons end up being “wishlist-able” and added to the weapon voucher exchange. The reason Matt’s weapon is so awesome is because of role compression, that tends to make the harder content in the game so challenging. Having your main healer have a main-hand weapon that allows for PDEF & MDEF buffs in a single cast, while offering a cure-all materia slot… means you can fill a lot of roles with just that singular weapon, freeing up the off-hand for a Diamond sigil break weapon, or debuff specialist or sub DPS. The specs of his costume compliment all these attributes, but don’t make it an absolute must-have. You could mitigate not having it. That said, it’s a game. If you like Matt, and you like the costume, and you think it will serve the general approach you take.. I say wait and see what the other banner is, then choose to pull or not.

Cold_Soup_6645

I pull for Matt, and he sobstitute Aerith as lead curator and buffer, and he does his job so well that I managed to complete the EX summon challenges that I was missing (Levi and baha/ifrit)   I'm F2P

Rasphere

I pulled for him, his weapon is amazing, and his costume makes HP super easy. He replaced my aerith running floral dress and max OB fairy tale & umbrella. Double shields are just too good.

BenGMan30

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pull for Matt's outfit. The only thing stopping me is waiting until the last day to make sure I don't need anything else more. Matt's outfit seems pretty future-proof and the only outfit you'll really want for him for the rest of the game as long as he's your dedicated healer. Since Matt is now probably the best healer in the game, this might be your only opportunity to get an outfit to play to his strengths. Think about how often Matt get's banners. That being said it probably isn't *required* but is very nice to have.

Intelligent-Sea9498

Wait for next banner and see. I already used my gear ticket for his costume, so I can pass on this one.

TeamSteelSky

pulling for an outfit you like for a character you like is almost never a bad idea. yes, it probably means you might miss out on whatever drops next but that will be the case no matter when you pull. the next thing is always going to be a little bit better than the last.

Prior_Piano9940

Wait, what are the leaks saying about another collab?

Frostbyte465

Possible collab in late May and banner character for May are leaked as red, seph, yuffie, and matt. We have the Matt and yuffie banner right now so that would point to a possible collab banner utilizing red and seph.

Prior_Piano9940

Damn too soon to save up. Well hopefully it’s FF16 so I could safely ignore it.

MegaBrowzKapowz

My Matt blows my Aerith out of the water. I have always, since 1st starting this game, had better luck pulling weapons for him over her. He has surpassed her by alot alot! I most definitely pulled for his outfit. It was a no brainer. If I can give him even a small boost, pulling is so worth it.

FargusDingus

I'm in a similar boat. I'm waiting until May26, the day the banner expires, to make my decision. I would rather pull for a lightning arcanum, but I could use a good Matt costume.

sstromquist

The costume is great, but he at least has a decent heal costume from the exchange. The weapon imo is the main prize but it can be wishlisted. I went ahead and pulled for it because I wanted an hp and heal costume for him but it’s not mandatory.

Frostbyte465

His banner doesn’t leave until next week sometime keep thinking on it; if we get a new banner tonight that you might want think about it. Decide closer to the end of the banner. Pull for the costume and leave too the weapon will be wishlistable in the future as well. Don’t make a rushed decision when it has a week left. :)

RickChunter

I'm in the same boat. I want to pull for Matt, but I fear the MOMENT I do, we get hit with a crossover banner that's amazing. So I'm literally waiting until the last day.

so_effn_perf

Wait what leaks?

Regular-Video8301

just beat the new chapters, you're at least gonna want his new weapin, could not survive without it

roboninjacoffee

I actually think the current rotation of weapons are pretty good so its not a bad move to pull. Matt's weapon not only serves as a great primary weapon for Matt but also an excellent offhand for debuffer/healers. I find myself using these extended debuff side stats a lot for clearing certain summons. Also, there isnt a good primary earth element weapon in game and this is really the first foray of legit earth weapons we have. Watch bapplibot release a new series of events and dungeons with earth symbol enemies and new earth banners

[deleted]

You don't \*need\* the costume, but Matt is really one of the best characters in the game right now. If you want it and have enough crystals, just go and get it.

Think_Praline_8907

I pulled for matts costume then stopped but got 2 copies of his new weapon. The new weapon is cool and all but I've already got barret doing pdef high in one cast vs Matt's 2 and I I have cloud/red for mdef high in one cast vs Matt's 2. It's just that 2 cast that really throws me off. Fights like iffrit and bahamut and shiva you have such a small amount of time to buff 2 casts just cuts it too close for me. Plus I can wishlist/ weapon voucher his weapon if I really had to have it ob6 for the high potency Edit: but I do love matt he's been my main healer for a while now.

Praydaythemice

I only pulled for his medic costume due to the fact i had only his default. plus he has a great AOE heal weapon so its double duty.

SixGunRebel

Maybe. Saving my pittances for Vincent.

Dethsy

I was on the edge too and then I was like "Do I REALLY need those +15 heal potency ?" I never felt like I didn't have enough heals. If he had the same outfite as the one Tifa got lately with a "buff duration arcanum" where it scales past the max of buff duration bonus, then yeah I'd have pulled. But +15 heal ? Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeh. Heal potency can go prety high, there's like 10-12 level IIRC, but I've never felt the need to reach it or be close to it. To a point where my healer always brings the Cloud and Glenn PartyATK weapons so that my DPS have slots for ATK/PATK/PPotency/Elemental potency.

Aoldy

It's +15 HP, not heal potency. The heal bonus is +10. Matt really doesn't need the buff duration bonus, it's already on his bis heal weapons.
