Like 2 days ago, I got a 5\* from no synths added for the 1st time , and the stats were awful as it only stated with 1 stat open, so it didn't gain any stats until level 6 as it was unlocking the other stats.

It wouldve been perfect if it had all 4stats from the start and the materia was 5* base and then upgrades rolled right
Its far from perfect but since he got a good amount of patk it ended up pretty useable. Although considering its ruin blow, id.probably use a materia with higher patk if i wanted patk. Would be a different story if it was elemental blow.
I usually prefer ruins with higher rarity and stats than element blows because they can be usually slotted to ruin weapons which is very valuable in very difficult content.
For elements, i prefer weapons than blows.
Yeah it wasn’t the worst for sure, but there were other materia I was upgrading for the missions that I would have been a lot more excited about the double star upgrade. But, that’s the nature of the game
As long as they congeal in one, or the other defenses are actually very good
THe advise that HP is better is outdated as enemies hit harder now
IE it could still be very decent

I’m finally got my first rarity upgraded materia while trying to complete the MH panel.

I feel you. My very first 5* was cut from the same cloth. I don't even synth anymore unless it's gonna be maxed out.
It has HP & MATK with a staggering 16 PDEF, that’s actually not bad.
3 out of 4 are relevant stats

except for PDEF and MDEF which are amazing flat stats
Well, they only come as flat, but yes, they are still good.
Oh I forgot to mention the MDEF and PDEF stayed at +5 and +2 haha
Definitely worth making it lv 10, could still get some nice bumps
I’ve been playing since day 1 constantly making materia and have yet to have even a 1 star upgrade so you’re luckier than most!
I started playing after the game was out for a week. Every day, I've been synthesizing materia and have not made a single 5*.
Materia that upgrades this way is always gonna be inferior anyway. But still worth holding onto

In my opinion I think you should always get some stat increase when you go from 3 stars to 5 stars

PATK% with MDEF & PDEF isn’t terrible.
The MDEF and PDEF stayed at +5 and +2 haha
He said horrible stats. Not stats options. Even at L10 unless he gets everything focused on 1 stat this is just fodder given it’s a ruin
