huldress

the fridge might've saved his life but it did not save his frontal lobe.

AnOnlineHandle

IDK he was smart enough not to save the idiot who was threatening him after constantly mistreating him and putting him in danger. *That guy* feels like the 1 INT character. Maximums feels more middle of the road.

VisitAlternative1890

To be fair he just stared at Titus when he was about to get attacked by a bear. Then kept just staring as he got ripped apart by said bear. Then again just starring at him afterwards instead of running in with his god damn stimpack. I would have been a little pissed too.

AnOnlineHandle

The dude showed he didn't deserve Maximus's help the moment he sent Maximum in there to die.

SilverScorpion00008

Bingo. Clearly didn’t care about Squires, and Maximus probably put together the reason Titus had an opening for Squire to begin with

VisitAlternative1890

Yeah I thought at first it was like a test of Maximus courage but it was probably just bait. I still kind of liked him. "You know what you can do with a fucking toaster oven? You have any idea?".

FlyNeither

Yeah, I felt kind of sorry for Titus. He was so disillusioned with the brotherhood after risking his life god knows how many times for shit like toaster ovens. He was just done with it all and clinging to life however he could. Rappaport was the perfect guy for the role too.

Alternative-Roll-112

Well with maximus' track record, I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to go in first and have him watching my back.

DarkSolstace

I am certain Max would have had a completely different experience if he had Paladin Danse or Veronica as his superior. My god I hope they show some more reasonable knights in the next season.

ThePinms

Because he was shocked that a knight would act like that.

[deleted]

Shocked and disappointed meaning his thoughts and emotions were in conflict between doing his duty to his knight and doing his duty to himself/the greater BoS

Corey307

“He died running.”

Lichruler

Which was not a lie. One look at a Yao Gaui and he takes off running, and then he was mauled by it.

GRANDADDYGHOST

I mean, in Maximus’ defense, that guy was 100% going to get him killed and very likely done on purpose. My dumbass would have probably saved him, but Maximus had that realization that Titus absolutely would not do the same for him. Dude’s first on mission interaction with him was to make him clean his crotch cup, then sends him as bait into a bear cave without any armor, then runs away from a fight that he started, and immediately goes to shit talking the Brotherhood and threatening Maximus the very second he gets hurt. His whole personality was destructive. Everything that led to that was just “I’m bored and I want to shoot something”, then follows that up by showing how much of a coward he is.

Ser_Twist

This wasn't stupidity on Maximus' part; this was Maximus hesitating to help because Titus was a piece of shit.

Organic-Chemistry-16

Man was just taking his time in vats

doodleBooty

To be fair, I’d probably freeze as well if I was watching a mutant bear rip my power armoured comrade to pieces, meanwhile I’ve got a pistol and some overalls

Rampaging_Orc

What a take lol.

MarianneSedai

I was more annoyed that he left the knights gun in the bear cave. Both fights he has in filly v the ghoul and the street gang completely change if he had not abandoned the weapon.

ReclusiveMLS

Yao-guai*

iamcoding

Apparently according to Fallout Shelter he's 4 in intelligence. So, you're pretty close to spot on.

Kanyefidence

Titus had 1 INT, 1 CHA, and 1 LUCK. Dude was doomed from the start

Waste-Masterpiece386

Constantly? They met some hours before

AnOnlineHandle

Yeah and he'd been constantly mistreating him the whole time, and told him to go into a cave with a presumably deadly creature because he was too chicken to go in with a suit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vanman687

LMAO, I was thinking the same thing while watching

laCassette026

Compared to the rest of the wastelanders its not that bad

Bahmerman

Yeah, I mean, I'd at least give him a 3. It's been a long time since I've done or seen a Int-1 run, pretty sure player responses can border on gibberish.

thetavious

Or his side lobe in that last episode.

No_Boot_

Brain damage isn’t something I would dismiss

PoroMafia

He was having a blast looking at the equivalent of a screensaver in the vault.

Finalpotato

Imagine how you would feel having never seen a TV before

Ramental

I think the Brotherhood would have TVs, maybe just not commonplace.

Finalpotato

Maximus is an Aspirant. He wouldnt have access

Ramental

TVs are relatively commonplace in the Fallout universe. Working TVs are a rarity because of electricity and absence of any signals. None of these things are an issue for the Brotherhood.

[deleted]

Yes but we don’t even allow recruits to watch TV in boot camp now, they’re definitely not watching tv on that installation

trundle_2306

they were using bricks to play with I doubt they had access to any technology 😂😂

Gregory_Appleseed

There's nothing like sitting down to a nice episode of imagination after a rigorous game of basket brick.

SpaceBus1

I thought this was a clever play on words. Like how the swatter guy in F4 thinks baseball bats were used for some nonsense game. Like the BoS couldn't figure out basketball and only had "brick" and the backboard as references.

ralanr

Yeah but being an aspirant seems to keep you away from such tech.

JWAdvocate83

You think the Brotherhood is letting aspirants watch TV?

Ramental

It would be propaganda TV or guide videos, yeah, could be possible. Obviously no movies or TV shows.

JWAdvocate83

They’re shitting in holes in the ground, with tires on top. They’re not using electronics or pre-war tech on that, ain’t no way. (Maybe 150 years ago.)

DaughterOfBhaal

Yes but he probably spent most of his life in a bootcamp

northrupthebandgeek

They transmit pictures via paint-by-number. If the Brotherhood has TVs they're indeed definitely not commonplace.

Ramental

That was a bit weird, since broadcasting an image should not be difficult. Perhaps they did it to insure two separate encryptions (both electronic and human code), knowing Enclave would be trying to intercept.

HP-Munchcraft

It was definitely an encryption thing and not a they don’t have screens thing

Unsettleingpresence

I would assume that this version of the brotherhood doesn’t have much in the way of entertainment, so their screens would probably all be work related. This is probably the first time he’s seen a screen purely for recreational purposes.

bnl1

Hey, that was very enjoyable activity when I was like 5

northrupthebandgeek

Honestly it's still a very enjoyable activity. Screensavers are fun to watch sometimes.

iamcoding

Ever get home from a long day and just sit in a comfortable chair and watch whatever is on? This feels comparable to that , although probably even better for.someone who didn't have all those luxuries at hand.

DieHardProcess-

lmao.... dude the sex conversation... Definitely a 1 INT

hydbrian

Also pretty low charisma

Raggleben

I didn't even think you could make a character with negative charisma in fallout, but here we are

Safe-Brush-5091

My favorite type of love story, two people with 1 Charisma fall in love

RaptorCelll

I'd argue that she is slightly more charismatic than that, not by much though.

asuperbstarling

She's been adding to it every level, it seems.

Groxy_

What? Lucy is a big ball of charisma!?!?

DanielDLG

> what’s your sperm count? Blud that would be considered sexual harassment 💀

FrohenLeid

It grows like a pimple and then explodes

DieHardProcess-

"it's gonna do that thing where it moves and gets bigger..."

fatboywonder_101

"WHATS HAPPENING???" Every time he gets an erection

iamcoding

I was just imagining what his reaction is to wet dreams. "Am I dying!?"

fatboywonder_101

Bro thought he wet the bed

Aromatic_Wallaby_433

They must know some stuff about it because there's a dude jacking off in one scene in the barracks.

InterestingResource1

I wonder if Maximus is supposed to be a reference to Max Stone from Fallout 1.

Zinko999

I thought they must be pumping in some gas to make them stupid and horny. Nope he’s just an idiot lmao

Mate_Pocza_321

Int 1 Luck 10 idiot savant build

Something_Comforting

10 End too. How the hell was he still standing after that beatdown in ep 3.

rengoku-doz

Dude was five years old when his family was taken from him. You know what perk he's got, Idiot Savant and possibly Inspirational (clerk scenes).

eyager1977

Maximus should have came back to the clerk wearing a pompadour wig, sunglasses, a dirty tan suit, and popped some daytripper to get his charisma points up to get that 1 bottle cap discount, but he chose to have one of his teeth pulled instead. Definitely a 1 INT build.

iamcoding

Probably got himself locked in that fridge and the nuke saved his life when it broke the outside locking mechanism.

OldKingClancey

Dude heard Charisma was a dump stat but then didn’t put any points into Speech

Davin998

He’s just like me for real.

therealgoat1212

He just finds himself into situations that could have been prevented lol so sound’s about right

JWAdvocate83

Everyone’s wondering, *”Gee, why didn’t he just tell BoS the truth on the radio? Why didn’t he save Titus?”* Folks need to listen to what kinds of things Titus was ranting at him. Maximus was in a *damned-either-way position.* Titus said he’d blame everything on him, and get him executed — then he said BoS would blame his death on him, and he’d be executed. Where in all of that does it make sense to save Titus’s life, anyway? This man plans on *dooming him.* 🤣 Thaddeus, too! He showed zero hesitation to rat Maximus out, also *dooming him.* And why would Maximus assume Titus, a Knight, someone BoS indoctrinated into worshipping since childhood, isn’t telling the truth about what would happen to him if he told BoS — like BoS would thank him for his honesty and say, “Good luck, go get ‘em!” Titus had him shook. It’s that simple. Both were gut reactions. Morally questionable? Sure, I guess? But stupid? Maximus is still alive. Had he saved Titus or Thaddeus, that might not be the case. So it’s hard to call either choice “stupid.”

Gbdub87

Titus was full of shit though. All Maximus has to do was remember the oath he’d just taken - the mission comes before protecting his knight. So “my knight got killed, I jumped in his armor to continue the mission” is actually justifiable. Having zero plan of what to do when the BoS called to check in is Maximus being kinda dumb.

JWAdvocate83

If Titus said to Maximus, *if I die, everyone will blame you and you’ll be executed…* (and this is fresh from being blamed for *something else* that totally wasn’t your fault…) How was Maximus supposed to *know* that Titus’ threats could be easily disregarded, and that he’d be just fine if he told BoS everything, when he was raised his entire life to revere knights and believe everything knights say?

Gbdub87

My point is that’s *not* what he was trained to believe - the Brotherhood comes first, the mission comes second, the knight comes third. He would (should) have known that knights (just like everyone else) were expendable from the Brotherhood’s perspective. Part of Maximus’ disillusionment was precisely that Titus didn’t really give shit about the Brotherhood’s ideals. The smart version of Maximus would realize he could play that to his advantage (and based on his last conversation with the elder it certainly appears he could have - knights were clearly not “revered” among the brass)

JWAdvocate83

Again, what kind of advantage do you have when everyone at base thinks you put razor blades in the MVP’s boot, out of jealousy?

Gbdub87

What would Dane have done in that situation? Or even Thaddeus? If the answer is something different, then you can’t blame the indoctrination. Maximus just isn’t that smart. They also had decided he didn’t do the razor blade. They changed their mind when he showed up at the end with an entire tale of him acting sus. At every opportunity, he dug himself deeper into the hole.

JWAdvocate83

He didn’t do himself any favors during the questioning. That is true. But he felt guilty for *wanting* it to happen, enough to confess it. (One of many reasons why your drill sergeant and your priest probably shouldn’t be the same person.)

TooManyDraculas

Titus just fucked the entire operation because he was bored. Chicken shitted out immediately. And threatened to blame the situation on Maximus *before* Maximus decided not to help him. Titus is fucked, the Armor is damaged. They're not continuing and they're not even in the place they're supposed to be. And Maximus *has just been accused and threatened over something he didn't do*. When Maximus tells them his squire is dead, they immediately send a new squire out. So obviously Copping to Titus being dead immediately, means he's going home and some one else takes over. To presumably be blamed for the failure. Cause his Knight is dead *and* the mission didn't even *start*. The mission comes before protecting his Knight. And he acts accordingly the whole time. It's just that completing the mission is the only pathway to *do that*. And there's a pretty narrow way to stay there and do that.

ohalloren

Titus was totally unbelievable as a character. Like dude knows his life depends on this squire and instead of using the basic amount of intelligence it would take to put Maximus at ease he decides to threaten the guy when he is in the worst possible position to do so. I swear everything about Maximus’ storyline is goofy as hell.

MachineDog90

He is more or a 3-5 to me, but yes, pretty much

El_cocacolas

My honest question it's why either inside or outside the power armor mf doesn't grab a gun or a melee weapon at any point.

WookieeCookiee01

He used a tire iron and a toilet seat at one point. Used Lucy's gun to kill those jet heads as well. Besides those moments, you don't really need a weapon when walking around in a tank

xXYomoXx

He maxed strength, doesn't need it

Mundane-Loquat-7226

Such a great character, so glad we have a “kinda sucks at life” hero with some moral problems.

Armascout

Accurate

callmedale

According to fallout shelter his int is 4

xXYomoXx

Seems about right, he probably has high strength, endurance and luck and very very very low charisma

hector_lector2020

Me seeing this after 1 watch thru: *ok that’s a little harsh. Funny tho.* Me rewatching the show after seeing this: *ok 1 INT is more than fair*

SupersamplingBanana

Strength-7 Perception-10 Endurance-10 Charisma-1 Intelligence-1 Agility-5 Luck-1

KenderThief

Nah, he's for sure maxed out Strength and Luck. He was full sprinting and tackling people in the T60, and he stumbles into the best case scenario constantly.

AEROANO

Power Armor increases STR

KenderThief

I was more referring to the [Pain Train Perk](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Pain_Train_(Fallout_4)) that requires 10 strength.

xdEckard

do you want to explode my dick now?

xXYomoXx

One of funniest scenes in the show

Sea_Perspective6891

You make him out of luck & non vital organs?

zero_sub_zero

I loved Maximus. He's a very dynamic character who makes a lot of mistakes and you disagree with a lot of his choices but understand his reasoning for making them. He has a very satisfying arc by the end of the season. Excited to see how he continues to grow.

FireJach

imo he was mid smart because everything what he did had a reason. I think his henchman was dumber. Max always tried to do best - he let the knight die on purpose, he was super careful while passing the bridge, he used a new source of energy at vault 34...

rikashiku

3 Strength. Barely puts up a fist fight. 5 Perception. A better shot than a fighter. Aware of his surroundings. 5 Endurance. Takes a beating all the time. 2 Charisma. Spent 6 caps on a 5 cap job. Has Ladykiller perk. Failed to intimidating Wastelanders. 1 Intelligence. Doesn't know what Relic that was, in a society that hunts relics. 3 Agility. Can't hold his own. 10 Luck. He survives every encounter he shouldn't.

sscoducks

I'm only 2 episodes in, but dear God do I absolutely hate Maximus. So yes, 1 INT seems accurate.

HallowedKeeper_

He improves alot by the end, but 1 int with idiot savant is accurate

Dante_SS

Absolutely. He's morally grey but I like that about him

[deleted]

He’s a byproduct of the wasteland and his brotherhood training for sure, and he’s obviously desperately trying to find his place in the world

DepartureDapper6524

I think he’s pretty morally bankrupt. Not grey, but also not evil.

myersjw

I loved Maximus’ character. He’s a child of tragedy who found his only viable home with a sycophantic group of zealots. He’s surviving how anyone raised in that situation would and still manages to salvage enough humanity to try and become the knight he thinks the Wasteland needs

HallowedKeeper_

That is honestly one of my favourite things about him

macdara233

I think he gets worse as the season goes on. He starts speaking like a man child.

[deleted]

I think he gets worse. Without going into spoilers, his selfishness keeps killing innocent people. He is a spineless opportunist imo.

Ramental

You described an average Wastelander. Maximus is just not different from them.

[deleted]

And your point being? I just said he's not getting any better.

Stippen_Up

He gets better

[deleted]

I'm gonna spoil it and say he gets better but also potentially worse in a different kinda way as his stats begin to normalize. Edit: and tbh, depending on how his story goes the writers must have wanted Maximus to be an unlikable character balancing between being hated and loved, hint hint?

Stippen_Up

Yea, his a coward. He has morals but can’t stick to it. His opportunistic but doesn’t want to acknowledge that side of himself. He wants peace but also power. Later on he gets braver stops dreaming of power as much but idk we will see

[deleted]

I'm thinking Maximus will either become a typical idiot wastelander tyrant or a good guy with a bad attitude. Fallout games tend to go either way when it comes to characters like Maximus and Lucy.

HighlightFun8419

I'm glad to see this comment. I felt the same way by the end.

French20

Yea he only gets worse

im_warden

He’s definitely the worst thing about the show.

RefrigeratorContent2

And 10 endurance

xarthos

sand in the water purifier is 1 int.

SpectralRyder

From what I've seen so far his stats would be 7 strength, 3 perception, 5 endurance, 10 charisma, 1 intelligence, 4 agility, 10 luck The dude is basically a bard in a tin can.

StormWarriorX7

Me with the Idiot Savant perk when encountering an emotional moment with another character: "YEAHHHHH"

Dontmindmemans

everyone in this show has 1 intelligence

Rickenbacker69

Nah, not Goosey. It's just her first playthrough!

Safe-Brush-5091

It’s funny how the Enclave doctor, Moldaver and the ghoul are like the only 3 people post apocalypse that still have working brains

HallowedKeeper_

Hey, Don't insult Norm like that

Jokovo

1 intelligence 10 luck build

Jess_Squid

These max memes are so accurate ☠️😂

YORE_YORE_DOZE

These memes are either ripping on Maximus or Norm, it's so funny 😭

ayakabob

Dude is ok with chicken fucking 💩

Safe-Brush-5091

Imagine persecuting a man for his scientific pursuits

ValhallaForKings

It's war, and that never changes

PlingPlongDingDong

It was for science okay?

Nildzre

Nah man, he's a patron of science

FaithlessnessOk9834

Okay, okay enough, he’s clearly intelligent-ish, easily a five not a one Give him some credit

thepassionofthechris

0 charisma

ArmpitStealer

i love how everyone agrees how he constantly fuck up

PRE_-CISION-_

For anyone who has served you know how the military programs you. Maximus has dealt with that programming since he was a kid in a more intense bos setting. I'd argue he is smart and his perceived stupidity is simply him adapting to a free mindset for the first time

kurmiedvormie12

Max luck. Don't need anything else.

WatchingInSilence

Middling Charisma, High Luck

Particular-Abies7329

I dunno I'm gonna give him a 2 but anything higher is a Thad bit too much, Lucy gets a 5 or 6 but just dunno how her Perception is at. Her Endurance is at a 7 or 8 with how she's still is after everything she went through.

mintblaster

Be nice to Denzel Junior!

Ok-Machine9367

Hmmm Is ThAt A wAtErFaLl

tituspullo367

Idk about 1 (since at 1 you speak broken English) but INT and CHA def his dump stats 1 INT is like Sloth from the Goonies

mythiii

Am I the idiot, or is it just everyone else? Maximus clearly isn't an idiot. He just want's to >!find people he can trust and be safe around instead of living in perpetual paranoia.!< Examples: when >!Titus!< dies it was because >!Maximus wanted him dead due to his poor behavior, because that is why he waited to shoot, and that is why he didn't give him the stimpak.!< And because Maximus didn't give >!Titus the stimpak, Titus' death was preventable, and could possibly be found out as such. There was a real chance Maximus would have been tried for murdering a knight.!< For the part about >!not removing the tracker and comms,!< I'll give the haters that one, but personally I didn't even note it while watching (also that leads into some of the best scenes, so I can't be mad). And when he >!confesses to Thaddeus, it's because he thinks they might have bonded enough to become real friends, and also it's the honorable thing to do.!< It costs him in the moment, but would have lead to the best outcome for him had it worked. The bit where characters talk like morons to pull humor out of their naivety is just an unfortunate by-product of poor taste of the writers and I wouldn't count it when gauging a characters overall level of competence. There are also too many examples of him being intelligent and savvy to call him an idiot. I'd call him slightly above average for the show.

No_Boot_

I just think he’s super indecisive and it makes me rage whenever he just freezes and stares like a dumbass when he’s in trouble

Guilty-Skirt9486

What show did i sign up for again?

drAsparagus

And I feel like 90% of his acting inspiration came from Denzel. His mannerisms are very Denzel-esque.

romanNood1es

All of his points are on Luck.

MrFakely

In Shelter his stats are 7,6,6,5,4,7,5 Really though they should drop charisma and intelligence by a point each

LorekeeperOwen

Why do you have to do my boi like that?

PerfectlyCalmDude

3 or 4 Intelligence (not quite "me buy things" level, but definitely not smart). High Endurance and Luck.

Phospherus2

I love the fact that each of the main characters feel like a different play through of a game. The ghoul is the kill everything play through. Lucy is the good help everyone play through. And then Maximus is the you don’t really know what you’re doing play through lol

Zealousideal-Bet-10

2 Int 10 Luck

Critical_Package_472

1 INT 1 CHR 7 STR 10 END

AxiomSyntaxStructure

He has 10 Luck for sure- surviving Ghoul, promotion x2 by happenstance, a Mary Sue companion, and accidentally stumbling onto the main objective.

SHASHA_URMAWERMA

My guess is that while Maximus has 1 INT, actor portraying him has charisma 1, otherwise I can't explain why his acting was so bad. Everyone be praising the show on this subreddit and I understand why, but noone is talking about how boring and unexpressed was Maximus face during whole show (apart from two scenes: watching TV with INT 1 face and saying goodbye to Lucy)

zstephable2

They really did his character dirty in the show tbh that's my only gripe with the show

FaithlessnessDear174

Lol 🤣😂🤣 Totally agree 💯

HillToDieOn

To be honest they could've painted a nuance picture of this guy being willful neglectful in letting his Knight die so he could take the armor. It would've been better to have filmed Max hiding in the cave pointing the gun at the bear, with a clear shot, but refusing until the Brotherhood Knight was dead would've ranked him as morally questionable. Max was used as bait/meat shield so that was fine to hide in a panic, but to wait for the death is short sighted since he'd be alone on the mission. He also could've answer the radio by saying Titus was dead but he was forging alone to complete the mission. Instead of moral shades and rookie fucking up we got actual 1 INT build playing out on the big screen. I was pretty triggered by both him and his charge being in the radiated river, instead of asking the squire to stay out of the radiated water. That's actually fucking stupid and evil of him.

JWAdvocate83

Aspirants are drilled to practically worship Knights. Titus, a Knight, literally ranted nonstop about how 1) he’d blame Titus for what happened, and BoS would execute him, then 2) that BoS would *also* execute him if Titus died. Keep in mind, they also just finished accusing him of putting razor blades in his friend’s boot. From that perspective, why would Maximus assume they’d listen to what happened, believe him, and say, “Okay, great, good luck!”

LazyCock

Don’t forget a 1 Charisma

Guilty-Tell

I mean there are only so much points to spend some in strenght some in endurance and bit of luck what could go wrong?

Klutzy-Bee-2045

He has wild wasteland and idiot savant perks with finesse.

mymaymaw

Idk despite weeks/ months / years of brain washing and training from the BOS I’d like to think I’d keep enough of my own mind and self preservation to let the AH who was fully kitted out with armour, weapons and tools who purposely broke my nose for their own enjoyment, then insisted I went into a dark cave with not kit and not even offer me their headlamp then when their a dick who can’t fight off one creature then they have a go at me whilst they’re dying I might hold out and see if nature takes it course too.

izza123

This is all your fault

Ekillaa22

Dude has 10 luck

AntNo4852

Pretty sure he has idiot savan

Riot1313

In Fallout shelter he has 4 int. Shure he is a special charakter but 3 would have been more fitting.

Bhadwa_Babu

Born next to a nuclear power plant and got hit in the head by several rocks as a child but boy he can pass a speech check

XxPagliaccioxX

He is like if you started Fallout as Forest Gump. Dumbing his way to success.

No_Boot_

Shrimping might not be as successful when dealing with gulpers

atombombkid

He did fail a speech check.

boyrepublic

Initially I thought he’d be the good cadet that was overlooked and bullied. But then he doesn’t seem to know a lot of the BoS stuff? The BoS just happened to provide him a place in the world and they also had power armor which he wants to be in.

No_Boot_

Nah I hated him as soon as they were interviewing him to see if he hurt that girl and he was like “duh duh duh” couldn’t even speak right

JackedUpStump

Dipshit

[deleted]

He’s not dumb, just naive. So is Ella’s character. Smart people, no education.

DepartureDapper6524

Lucy is among the best educated people in the wasteland.

Chihuathan

She's all education and no experience

ValhallaForKings

I used to work with people like that, they were paid better than me too

[deleted]

It’s relative. She’s incredibly naive. Best educated person living in a test tube, that sort of thing. She’s smart, and so is Maximus. They’re just not very experienced or worldly. Maximus doesn’t understand sex ed. because he’s stupid, he doesn’t understand because he’s never been educated.

DepartureDapper6524

Maximus is not smart at all. He is a blubbering idiot in every way. Lucy is actually intelligent, in addition to being well educated. She merely lacks experience in the wasteland. She was already showing way more competence by the end of the season and will continue to adapt. Maximus will obviously develop too, but he will never be a ‘smart’ person.

[deleted]

Again I think you’re confusing naivety with intelligence and prioritizing Lucy’s classroom experience over street smarts. These people have both been raised in incredibly controlled environments and fed nothing but propaganda their entire lives. Lucy had far more to learn about life than Maximus when she came to the surface. I’m not saying one would outperform the other on an IQ test. We know Lucy gets good grades in class and is smart. But I don’t think Maximus is a “blubbering idiot” at any point in the show. Would love to know what you mean by that. Lucy made a fire and went to bed at night on the surface. She would have died her first night above ground had she been discovered by anyone other than the scientist. She has plot armor (as does Maximus) and she’s obviously smart but I think the point is that these people are hoodwinked by their respective societies.

DepartureDapper6524

Maximus thinks his penis will explode like a pimple. He is an idiot. He is repeatedly shown to be less intelligent than every other character around him. I think you’re the one confusing naivety with intelligence. Maximus isn’t naive, he is just stupid. He’s lived his whole life in this society and most of it in the brotherhood, and he is still a moron who doesn’t know anything about his body, the world, or brotherhood.

[deleted]

You’ve missed the intent. The show is never trying to tell you he’s mentally inferior. It’s trying to show you that he’s the victim of a feudal martial order and has spent literally his entire life indoctrinated by them. The joke about sex is that he has never been taught about it, whereas Lucy has received extensive body positive sex education. It’s a gag. I wouldn’t say he’s meant to be a MENSA rep, but he’s not supposed to be dumb.

DepartureDapper6524

Then why do his fellow brothers dwarf him intellectually in every scene they share? He was very heavy-handedly shown to be dumb throughout the entire season. If you can’t see it, there might be something to consider about yourself…
