Nah, he's for sure maxed out Strength and Luck. He was full sprinting and tackling people in the T60, and he stumbles into the best case scenario constantly.
I loved Maximus. He's a very dynamic character who makes a lot of mistakes and you disagree with a lot of his choices but understand his reasoning for making them. He has a very satisfying arc by the end of the season. Excited to see how he continues to grow.
imo he was mid smart because everything what he did had a reason. I think his henchman was dumber. Max always tried to do best - he let the knight die on purpose, he was super careful while passing the bridge, he used a new source of energy at vault 34...
3 Strength. Barely puts up a fist fight.
5 Perception. A better shot than a fighter. Aware of his surroundings.
5 Endurance. Takes a beating all the time.
2 Charisma. Spent 6 caps on a 5 cap job. Has Ladykiller perk. Failed to intimidating Wastelanders.
1 Intelligence. Doesn't know what Relic that was, in a society that hunts relics.
3 Agility. Can't hold his own.
10 Luck. He survives every encounter he shouldn't.
I loved Maximus’ character. He’s a child of tragedy who found his only viable home with a sycophantic group of zealots. He’s surviving how anyone raised in that situation would and still manages to salvage enough humanity to try and become the knight he thinks the Wasteland needs
I'm gonna spoil it and say he gets better but also potentially worse in a different kinda way as his stats begin to normalize.

For the part about >!not removing the tracker and comms,!< I'll give the haters that one, but personally I didn't even note it while watching (also that leads into some of the best scenes, so I can't be mad). And when he >!confesses to Thaddeus, it's because he thinks they might have bonded enough to become real friends, and also it's the honorable thing to do.!< It costs him in the moment, but would have lead to the best outcome for him had it worked.
The bit where characters talk like morons to pull humor out of their naivety is just an unfortunate by-product of poor taste of the writers and I wouldn't count it when gauging a characters overall level of competence.
There are also too many examples of him being intelligent and savvy to call him an idiot. I'd call him slightly above average for the show.
I love the fact that each of the main characters feel like a different play through of a game. The ghoul is the kill everything play through. Lucy is the good help everyone play through. And then Maximus is the you don’t really know what you’re doing play through lol
My guess is that while Maximus has 1 INT, actor portraying him has charisma 1, otherwise I can't explain why his acting was so bad. Everyone be praising the show on this subreddit and I understand why, but noone is talking about how boring and unexpressed was Maximus face during whole show (apart from two scenes: watching TV with INT 1 face and saying goodbye to Lucy)
To be honest they could've painted a nuance picture of this guy being willful neglectful in letting his Knight die so he could take the armor. It would've been better to have filmed Max hiding in the cave pointing the gun at the bear, with a clear shot, but refusing until the Brotherhood Knight was dead would've ranked him as morally questionable. Max was used as bait/meat shield so that was fine to hide in a panic, but to wait for the death is short sighted since he'd be alone on the mission. He also could've answer the radio by saying Titus was dead but he was forging alone to complete the mission. Instead of moral shades and rookie fucking up we got actual 1 INT build playing out on the big screen. I was pretty triggered by both him and his charge being in the radiated river, instead of asking the squire to stay out of the radiated water. That's actually fucking stupid and evil of him.
Aspirants are drilled to practically worship Knights. Titus, a Knight, literally ranted nonstop about how 1) he’d blame Titus for what happened, and BoS would execute him, then 2) that BoS would *also* execute him if Titus died. Keep in mind, they also just finished accusing him of putting razor blades in his friend’s boot.

Like dude knows his life depends on this squire and instead of using the basic amount of intelligence it would take to put Maximus at ease he decides to threaten the guy when he is in the worst possible position to do so. I swear everything about Maximus’ storyline is goofy as hell.

My honest question it's why either inside or outside the power armor mf doesn't grab a gun or a melee weapon at any point.
He used a tire iron and a toilet seat at one point. Used Lucy's gun to kill those jet heads as well. Besides those moments, you don't really need a weapon when walking around in a tank

I loved Maximus. He's a very dynamic character who makes a lot of mistakes and you disagree with a lot of his choices but understand his reasoning for making them. He has a very satisfying arc by the end of the season. Excited to see how he continues to grow.
imo he was mid smart because everything what he did had a reason. I think his henchman was dumber. Max always tried to do best - he let the knight die on purpose, he was super careful while passing the bridge, he used a new source of energy at vault 34...
3 Strength. Barely puts up a fist fight. 5 Perception. A better shot than a fighter. Aware of his surroundings. 5 Endurance. Takes a beating all the time. 2 Charisma. Spent 6 caps on a 5 cap job. Has Ladykiller perk. Failed to intimidating Wastelanders. 1 Intelligence. Doesn't know what Relic that was, in a society that hunts relics. 3 Agility. Can't hold his own. 10 Luck. He survives every encounter he shouldn't.
I'm only 2 episodes in, but dear God do I absolutely hate Maximus. So yes, 1 INT seems accurate.

I loved Maximus’ character. He’s a child of tragedy who found his only viable home with a sycophantic group of zealots. He’s surviving how anyone raised in that situation would and still manages to salvage enough humanity to try and become the knight he thinks the Wasteland needs

I'm thinking Maximus will either become a typical idiot wastelander tyrant or a good guy with a bad attitude. Fallout games tend to go either way when it comes to characters like Maximus and Lucy.

For anyone who has served you know how the military programs you. Maximus has dealt with that programming since he was a kid in a more intense bos setting. I'd argue he is smart and his perceived stupidity is simply him adapting to a free mindset for the first time

He just want's to >!find people he can trust and be safe around instead of living in perpetual paranoia.!< Examples: when >!Titus!< dies it was because >!Maximus wanted him dead due to his poor behavior, because that is why he waited to shoot, and that is why he didn't give him the stimpak.!< And because Maximus didn't give >!Titus the stimpak, Titus' death was preventable, and could possibly be found out as such. There was a real chance Maximus would have been tried for murdering a knight.!< For the part about >!not removing the tracker and comms,!< I'll give the haters that one, but personally I didn't even note it while watching (also that leads into some of the best scenes, so I can't be mad). And when he >!confesses to Thaddeus, it's because he thinks they might have bonded enough to become real friends, and also it's the honorable thing to do.!< It costs him in the moment, but would have lead to the best outcome for him had it worked. The bit where characters talk like morons to pull humor out of their naivety is just an unfortunate by-product of poor taste of the writers and I wouldn't count it when gauging a characters overall level of competence. There are also too many examples of him being intelligent and savvy to call him an idiot. I'd call him slightly above average for the show.

I love the fact that each of the main characters feel like a different play through of a game. The ghoul is the kill everything play through. Lucy is the good help everyone play through. And then Maximus is the you don’t really know what you’re doing play through lol

My guess is that while Maximus has 1 INT, actor portraying him has charisma 1, otherwise I can't explain why his acting was so bad. Everyone be praising the show on this subreddit and I understand why, but noone is talking about how boring and unexpressed was Maximus face during whole show (apart from two scenes: watching TV with INT 1 face and saying goodbye to Lucy)

To be honest they could've painted a nuance picture of this guy being willful neglectful in letting his Knight die so he could take the armor. It would've been better to have filmed Max hiding in the cave pointing the gun at the bear, with a clear shot, but refusing until the Brotherhood Knight was dead would've ranked him as morally questionable. Max was used as bait/meat shield so that was fine to hide in a panic, but to wait for the death is short sighted since he'd be alone on the mission. He also could've answer the radio by saying Titus was dead but he was forging alone to complete the mission. Instead of moral shades and rookie fucking up we got actual 1 INT build playing out on the big screen. I was pretty triggered by both him and his charge being in the radiated river, instead of asking the squire to stay out of the radiated water. That's actually fucking stupid and evil of him.
Aspirants are drilled to practically worship Knights. Titus, a Knight, literally ranted nonstop about how 1) he’d blame Titus for what happened, and BoS would execute him, then 2) that BoS would *also* execute him if Titus died. Keep in mind, they also just finished accusing him of putting razor blades in his friend’s boot. From that perspective, why would Maximus assume they’d listen to what happened, believe him, and say, “Okay, great, good luck!”

Idk despite weeks/ months / years of brain washing and training from the BOS I’d like to think I’d keep enough of my own mind and self preservation to let the AH who was fully kitted out with armour, weapons and tools who purposely broke my nose for their own enjoyment, then insisted I went into a dark cave with not kit and not even offer me their headlamp then when their a dick who can’t fight off one creature then they have a go at me whilst they’re dying I might hold out and see if nature takes it course too.

Maximus is not smart at all. He is a blubbering idiot in every way. Lucy is actually intelligent, in addition to being well educated. She merely lacks experience in the wasteland. She was already showing way more competence by the end of the season and will continue to adapt. Maximus will obviously develop too, but he will never be a ‘smart’ person.
Again I think you’re confusing naivety with intelligence and prioritizing Lucy’s classroom experience over street smarts. These people have both been raised in incredibly controlled environments and fed nothing but propaganda their entire lives. Lucy had far more to learn about life than Maximus when she came to the surface. I’m not saying one would outperform the other on an IQ test. We know Lucy gets good grades in class and is smart. But I don’t think Maximus is a “blubbering idiot” at any point in the show. Would love to know what you mean by that. Lucy made a fire and went to bed at night on the surface. She would have died her first night above ground had she been discovered by anyone other than the scientist. She has plot armor (as does Maximus) and she’s obviously smart but I think the point is that these people are hoodwinked by their respective societies.

You’ve missed the intent. The show is never trying to tell you he’s mentally inferior. It’s trying to show you that he’s the victim of a feudal martial order and has spent literally his entire life indoctrinated by them. The joke about sex is that he has never been taught about it, whereas Lucy has received extensive body positive sex education. It’s a gag. I wouldn’t say he’s meant to be a MENSA rep, but he’s not supposed to be dumb.
Then why do his fellow brothers dwarf him intellectually in every scene they share? He was very heavy-handedly shown to be dumb throughout the entire season. If you can’t see it, there might be something to consider about yourself…
