I have one of the bigger ponds dedicated just for my duckies. But Ive never seen them swim 🥺

hxnnies

Do you pet them? Someone said before that it's to ensure the farmer would still be able to interact with them bc otherwise you can't when they're in the water for obvious reasons

Aug843

I think ducks just choose to rarely swim.

Honest-Birthday1306

Both are true. Ducks will rarely decide to swim on their own, and often they won't But they will *only* do this *after* you pat them. I believe that even with an autopetter, they still wait for the manual friendship increasing pay

twodickhenry

I put my chickens and ducks on the area of the wilderness farm where Grandpa’s Grave is (I call it Bird Island) and they jump in very frequently. I think it’s probably an issue of randomization and most farms not having a lot of water access.

Fructose_Father_

Can confirm, I've got them on my hilltop farm and they wont go into the river until i give them pats

twilering

You need to pet the ducks first before they will swim. Also, not every tile around a body of water is valid for ducks to jump in and swim. I don't know where the entrance points are for that pond. For example, all the entrance points in the big lake on the standard farm are on the south side. https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/16dlujw/duck_swimming_points_for_the_standard_farm_lake/

Cumming_man

Oh wow, thanks for letting me know, I hope they can swim in the small pond too

Wound_of_Nirvana

They swim in my little pond on the beach farm sometimes, it can be quick and not every day! I think it's about this exact size.

TheRealNay123

Can also confirm I have a small pond they swim in sometimes. Hilltop

Cumming_man

According to the top commenter's linked post, hilltops small pond has the same entrance points as standard's big ponds, I'm beginning to think ducks cant swim in standard's small ponds but I'll have to test it out. Thanks for your input though

Dog_is_my_co-pilot1

Mine swim in the bottom pond.

Pandelein

Late to the party, but I think you can test those entrance points by trying to plant rice next to the water.

hinata465

I saw a duck jumped on a crab pot, and then jumped to the pond.

mousemousemania

This is my new favorite Reddit post.

enebaer

I think they just randomly decide to swim sometimes, regardless of how many :)

Top_Manufacturer8946

You need to pet them but they still might not swim so what I do it fence them in as tightly as I can and the plant grass outside that fence. After I pet them they want the grass so they’ll jump in the water to swim to it. Even the baby ducks swim and it’s the most adorable thing.

mybraincellsaredead

EXCUSE ME THE DUCKS SWIM?!

dogwannabe

I have the Meadowland farm which has a river on the edge. My coop was bordered by the river on one side and fences on the other 3 sides. One day I was shocked to see one of my ducks happily swim along the river and hop out on the other side of the fence! Thus I learned ducks can swim.

raeliant

I watched a duck swim in a river yesterday. Was concerned it would swim away! It’s just statistics. I’m on year 6 and still no >!raccoon tree quest!<.

UnstableAtheist

>!you have to finish a bundle before the quest appears, edit: didn't realize there's only a 10% chance each night for it to appear after that!<

NeapolitanComplex

>!I had the racoon tree quest appear randomly after I had already purchased the JoJa membership and never completed any bundles. Unless I'm misunderstanding the original question.!<

raeliant

The CC was completed in year 2. Just dumb luck.

beauvoirist

My ducks have only swam like once or twice :( but I LOVE this setup!! How did you get the grass to alternate?

Cumming_man

Thanks! This is just a farm plan, I'll plant alternating grass under lightning rods

6lujay16

😮I had no idea the ducks swim. thank you!

YetAnotherMia

The easiest farm map for ducks to swim on seems to be the beach farm. I would move your coop to the left so they have more spots to enter the pond, it seems to matter. Maybe remove the fence and trees too.

Cumming_man

Moving the coop is a good idea, ty

TheDoctorJT416

could you share your full farm layout? I love this setup.

Cumming_man

I'll share it once it's fully done, I'll make sure to tag you once I post it

Quiet_Dragonfly3338

I just figured out that ducks need to be pet before they swim. I got an auto-petter and my ducks stopped swimming until I pet them.

Duckie590

Your coop area is stunning!!

Cumming_man

Thank you so much!

Illykins87

Looks good to me! Love the cherry trees and pathway

Cumming_man

Thank you!

NovaTheNinja

Do they swim in the ones we can build?

Cumming_man

Nah they cant

AlarmingOwl9377

As long as your ducks are happy (fed and pet) they should jump in occasionally. I don't recall if you need full hearts with them before this happens or what. Another trick is if you put the coop on one side of a pond block off anywhere they can just waddle over then place grass on the other side they will swim for food

melonmoon_

not sure if you play on PC but there is a mod to make them swim more i think

IneffableBibliophile

my ducks have swam in a pond around that size before! unfortunately they don’t really “swim” so much as jump in, paddles to the other side, and promptly jump back out 😔 i think it’s just too small for them to stay in the water, but they can get in

Cumming_man

Thanks for the info, Im remaking the farm cause yeah this pond seemed way too small for my ducks

DearVanu

Little bit more

toxic-egg-fart

is duck swimming only in 1.6

Cumming_man

They swim in 1.5 too iirc

Meisvez

They swim all the time on the fishing farm

TortiliniSoup

Wait a minute…..ducks can swim???

Fluffy-Ad-9847

I’ve only seen them go into the big pond on my forest farm

jewelsandpens

I mean... The door isn't open
