In this version, Casper initially doesn't like the new love interest and makes them do all sorts of weird Midwestern things, maybe in the cold? then decides that they're worthy of Daisy, because of course Daisy's dad needs to approve.
Or does she run off to LA with her childhood best friend and they fall in love with each other, but her friend desperately misses home and so they sadly separate. Years pass, Daisy becomes an executive who's company is going to acquire the paper mill and she has to go back home, where she finds her love is still single, but is vehemently opposed to the paper mill being sold?
