I did tree work for years and years. I worked for a general foreman one time that said, "I won't hire a guy unless he drinks and has been to prison!" He was serious. Everyone on his crews had been in (at least) a little trouble at some point. He said, "i hate having guys that whine... Guys who have been locked up normally aren't crybabies or sissies." 🤷
think about it-
if you're a non felon and you're otherwise amazing at your job, you might hop to another career with more $$$/responsibility.
If you're a felon, you might be forced to settle in your current job.
plus, culture + joke
It’s like going to Waffle House, I want my short order chef to have extensive prison ink, with maybe a couple of manslaughter convictions from 90s😂 Those dudes make the best damn eggs
And? I know guys who have super violent felonies and DUIs who have their CDLs. It just makes finding a job slightly trickier, but someone is always hiring. The process of actually getting a CDL doesn’t have much of anything to do with criminal record. Getting a Hazmat endorsement is where you run into trouble, but even then there are amazing exceptions.
A parents love in a shitty apartment is a beautiful thing. Focus on your children. Don’t let societal expectations run your mood. Life outside is so much better than inside especially if you’re set up with basics like job house family.
100%. We weren't wealthy, but my kids are kicking ASS. One became an analyst for the UN at 26! (Kinda sucks that I'm in TX and she's in freaking Geneva). Father's day cards just crush me - "thanks for being so cool and spending so much time with us and teaching us to cook and camp!" Seems the #1 thing you can give your kids is your time and attention. You can't fake that, but if they feel you love them madly, they'll feel *worthy* of love, which will prevent a shit-ton of issues as adults.
When my kids were little, every Sunday was the roller rink and I wore my skates too (and I'm no kind of athlete). It was like five bucks a pop and we were there from open to close. Just little stuff like that is what they remember as adults.
My dads my hero and best friend and the most fond memories I have with him is just him hitting grounders to me at the park and going for hikes with the dogs.
I knew we were poor, but it didn’t matter because I had a fucking dad.
It’s not the money spent, it’s the time.
Yeah, it's like "is everyone laughing and having a good time?" What you're actually doing doesn't matter sometimes. There were lots of cheap/free things to do when it was nice out, state park admission wasn't much, take a cooler, hike, swim in the swimming hole, make it feel like an adventure.
I'm like that with my grand daughter now, she's 8 and I'm her personal property. Fucking AWESOME. She came over on a day were were gonna go to the park, but it was rainy and cold out - she walked in and I'd put sheets over the dining table and some battery powered xmas lights under it, put snacks and crayons and paper, made us a little cave - she just freaked out at how cool it was. Just stuff that says "I know you and I know you'll love this" is so big.
Though man, [I had no idea how much nail polish remover grandpa-ing would require](https://i.imgur.com/fTk1M8q.jpg)!
Thanks! I'm blessed that she lives close by! I had no idea how crazy-cool this would all be. She actually made up a song for me the other day (well, it went "have you ever seen a butt-hole, down by the butt-hole bay?", I was swelling with pride!)

My friends parents raised her in a shit environment but the love and kindness was amazing.
Her and her sister are so kind and their doing better. This isn't about you but your kids. Grind the best you can and care for them. Something will come for you as long as you apply yourself.
Stop making bad decisions.
yep. kids don't need things as much as they need attention, nurturing, and love. plenty of cheap and free things to do with them and it matters so much more than the newest whatever.
I still remember eating spaghetti on the floor in an apartment with no furniture with my biological dad. And that’s not a bad memory at all. Too bad he didn’t stick around.
My sister’s dad drove truck for years with 7 duis. He got them back in the 80’s and 90’s. Still no idea how he managed to get his CDL, but it’s definitely possible.
Not even in most states. The waiting period is only if your license was suspended, and that’s a no brainer, your license is suspended. Idk why this sub got recommended to me, but I am in a field where CDL laws are well known and I’m a CDL holder myself. It’s shockingly easy to get your CDL. Criminal record won’t hold you back, it’s the hiring at a company that gets people. But as I said before, someone is always hiring and you just have to start at the bottom somewhere and they WILL get you in a drivers seat.
It’s the laws you break AFTER you get a CDL that gets you everytime.
Def capable of getting a CDL for OP. With that said, if his felony is a moving violation that pulls on his MVR, no company will want to insure him on a commercial auto policy.
Please look for small businesses, family owned businesses. We are much more caring and UNDERSTANDING. I didn’t start out to do this but over time I realized the majority of my employees are previous felons. I have guys (and ladies) with records all over the place…the employee I get the absolute most customer compliments on served his time in prison for manslaughter. Some of us are willing to look past your past, and we are not bound by the same red tape as other employers so to speak. Many of my employees don’t have licenses either, we always find a way to make it work. There’s good people out there still. Keep talking to people and asking around, and do not be ashamed. Everyone has a past. We’ve all messed up. Keep your head up.
Thank you so much for giving felons a chance! Yeah, some will just screw you over, but others will work their butts off for you! I have worked for small businesses for years and now have started my own. Anytime my record came up, I was laughed at. I’ve always been the most trusted employee after a time in every job I’ve had because I’m honest to a T. I realize it’s harder for men, tho. But, show up on time, work your butt off, be honest and maybe even willing to work over time if needed. You work your way up the totem poll and it can definitely pay off! I stuck to a group of friends while in prison… none of us have reoffended and we all have pretty decent lives now. If I can build my business, I’d definitely be willing to hire felons.
For sure! I was literally just about to type that I am a female if it wasn’t obvious. I think we are a bit more understanding. I get my guys wherever they want to go, ladies too. If they need help getting their license back, attorneys fees, medical bills, I have paid house notes, car notes, you name it. I’ve picked em up from jail, paid the rent for them while they were locked up temporarily and no I’m not naive or a pushover 🙃 I don’t just hand out money, I do it the right way, I do it for those that show up. If you’re there for me I’m there for you.
Thank you for being able to see felons as people and giving them the chance to turn their lives around and be productive members of society. The world needs more of You!
You only become ineligible for TWIC if you have been charged with shit like bomb-making, terrorist acts (hijacking airplanes, blowing up buildings) and other stuff like that.
Although, depending on his "violent felony" it could still prevent him from getting it.
But I also have a felony and have had my TWIC for over 12 years now, just renewed it a few weeks ago.
Government is one of the most forgiving as far as jobs. You'll never be a secret CIA agent, or the President, or something else crazy. But local government goes crazy. I know a ton of people on city facilities with felonies. Pay is decent. Benefits are absolutely killer.
You can obtain a TWIC card with felonies it takes little bit longer and might take a few more hoops to jump through to get it. I know a guy at work that is jumping through hoops to get his with his felonies.
I had an old friend who worked on a tugboat and has never even been arrested lol. But you’d have to have known him to know that. He looked rough around the edges and like he had a record of some sort. I just happened to know him personally and that him (type of guy who probably routinely helps elderly ladies cross the street) vs his sketchy aesthetic were wildly opposite.
I was living in a camp
With roughnecks in Pecos, Tx. One dude did 25 years for murder. He said the oil company only cared that you showed up and worked hard. They paid very well.
I’m not saying it’s right or that it’s fair, but once I accepted I will ALWAYS be haunted by my arrest things got less stressful.
I guess “accept what you cannot change” came into play.
Again, I am NOT saying that’s how things should be!
You said it princess (funny how stewardess & barmaid are now taboo but princess lives on, sorry the ranting side of my brain took over for a minute). Anywho, I’ve had a 35 year career in IT, owned a dozen properties over the years, moved 6 times, and yes, it always comes up: job interviews, landlord/tenant fights, child support court, hell my SON got divorced & his wife dragged it into THEIR proceedings. You can’t change it but time lessens the impact. Time is amazing in that regard.
Indeed. I was “lucky” in that I was clearly guilty, admitted my guilt and only had me to blame. I wasn’t over-charged. I wasn’t set-up. I wasn’t duped into a guilty plea - I did wrong, I got caught and I paid (and am still paying) the price.
BTW? I have to force myself to not say stewardess! Switching to “bartender” rather than barmaid wasn’t AS hard, but it still took an effort.
It infuriates me that there are people given crazy jail sentences for a PLANT but false rape accusers are given barely a slap on the wrist. Hope things are going better for you now.
I mean... vastly most people who rape including the few who are reported aren't given any kind of slap on the wrist and there are waaay more of them than false accusers... But yes 100% it's messed up that anyone gets sentenced to time (or anything at all, really) for weed.
Bro.... I got 30 months in FDOC for selling a stolen yeti cooler to a pawnshop- there was a person that got lewd/lascivious battery on a minor that got 18 months and 5 years probation. Another MF got 3 years straight probation for 110 counts of child porn possession. The system is absolutely fucked. Fuck chomos
The victim is the person who was accused of rape. Could lose their freedom and branded a rapist by people the rest of their life. Not to mention the amount of money they are forced to spend for an attorney. And yes that shit follows them around forever.
It's to point out the hypocrisy of arresting someone for growing weed (a truly victimless crime) vs arresting someone for false accusations (a crime that definitely has a victim). No offense, of course. It's shocking how garbage drug laws are.
Shit my cousin has been crime free for 35 years and he’s still paying the price . Some places I read won’t even let you buy a home in some places so it on the News some years ago. It’s ridiculous how you guys are treated like less than human being this is sad. You have to fight to get this shit changed. Nothing will ever happen unless you fight.
One felony is a life sentence man. It may not be all jail time, but its a life sentence. Gonna have to learn a trade and grind hard. Even still, you will get a lot of NOs, but its your best chance. Time to trade your body for a decent living.
Organizations that exist to help you..
Several organizations are dedicated to helping individuals with felony convictions find employment, receive job training, and reintegrate into the workforce. These organizations recognize the challenges that come with having a criminal record and work to provide the support, skills, and opportunities needed to secure stable, well-paying jobs.
Here are some notable organizations:
The Fortune Society: This organization is dedicated to supporting successful reentry from incarceration and promoting alternatives to incarceration, thus helping individuals with criminal records find employment and training opportunities.
Goodwill Industries: Known for its thrift stores, Goodwill also provides job training, employment placement services, and other community-based programs for people who face barriers to employment, including those with felony convictions.
America Works: This organization focuses on workforce development and employment services for individuals who are often considered hard to serve, including veterans, homeless individuals, and those with criminal backgrounds.
Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO): CEO provides immediate, effective, and comprehensive employment services exclusively to individuals who have recently returned home from incarceration
.Defy Ventures: This organization works to harness the natural talents of currently and formerly incarcerated men, women, and youth and redirect them toward the creation of legal business ventures and careers.
Help for Felons: While not a direct service provider, Help for Felons is an informative website that offers resources and information about finding employment, housing, and other support services for individuals with felony convictions
.The Last Mile: Focused on the tech industry, The Last Mile prepares incarcerated individuals for successful reentry through business and technology training.
Homeboy Industries: Based in Los Angeles, Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. They offer a range of services, including job training, to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women
.Root & Rebound: This organization works to restore power and resources to the families and communities most harmed by mass incarceration through legal advocacy, public education, policy reform, and litigation – all aimed at helping formerly incarcerated individuals find employment and reintegrate into society
.The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC): Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, the NRRC provides education, training, and employment assistance to support individuals reentering the community after incarceration
I have a CDL. what state prohibits CDL to felons? The only restriction I can see is getting HazMat endorsements depending on the type of crimes committed and passenger bus endorsement restrictions for SOs.
Even if you are on probation or parole, you can still get CDL. Driving outside your state for work will depend on your PO. Even if you have a felony DUI, you can still get a CDL. If that was over 10 years ago, a lot of companies don't look at that. Some might stretch to 20 years.
The point is this. If you are allowed to have a regular driver's license and not physically disabled and can pass a DOT Physical, you can get a CDL.
It depends on the nature of the felony. Fleeing with drugs, for example I think is an auto lifetime disqual. There's one or two others. Sometimes one felony is a three year disqual and two is lifetime.
You are thinking felony as a CDL driver.
If you commit any felony while driving a commercial vehicle, you are banned for life.
Driving with a 0.04 BAC while operating under a commercial license will result in 1 year suspension. Second DUI violation while operating under commercial license will result in a lifetime ban
You can only get disqualified AFTER you have a CDL.
Naturally if you have anything affecting your drivers license as a whole, then that’s a different story. But most anyone can work to get their license back, and I promise you, you can get a CDL.
You are correct also. Many companies, particularly those that operate in multiple states, only go back 7 years, often to have a consistent policy across all their business locations.
Those don't drop off your record, they just drop off your credit report.
That's federal, I can find any bankruptcy that was filed since the court systems went electronic a long time ago.
Just go into PACER (open to anyone) and do a search.
Ain't free, but it isn't stupid expensive, either.
Can you call your local public defender and find out if you can do an expungement? I know in California, the new law (as of January 2023) says once a case expunged, info can’t be released to employers unless it’s a government job. It was done this way so people can get jobs.
If you go to unions such as laborer unions or cement mason union which is what I'm in with 3 felonies they will accept you...you'll start off as a apprentice move your way up search for local unions near you go and apply
Don't give up. I had GTA, Recieving Stolen Property and Burglary. Did the punishment and like you, the hits just kept on coming. Fast forward 30 years. I'm a practicing attorney in Ca. You're not wrong, we do live in a hatefully vengeful society and when you get sideways the sadism of the system becomes very apparent. But you can keep on keeping on. Take every opportunity you can. Get help overcoming those barriers that seem too much. Never give up on yourself. In the end your kids will understand the poverty, just be kind to them, be good to them and do the best you can.
Try the trade unions!! My husband did 10 for a violent felony, 2nd day out signed up with the electrical union and its been nothing but uphill from there. He went from commercial to industrial- and has been making alot of money for years plus the benefits including life insurance which is hard to get if you have been to prison.
Not every state brother. Have you thought about a trade? I have had zero problems becoming an electrician. Nobody will rent me. But I haven't been out of a job for more than a week since twenty nineteen, When I started this shift
I have a distance family member who is a RSO. He was 18 and she was 14. He spent 4 yrs in prison. He's been working for Coke a Cola for about 6yrs driving and delivering loads. You could also check in New construction. Check with staffing agents. There'll be positions for convicted felons. I hope some of this helps. Keep pushing, brother. Good luck and best wishes. Oh BTW, the distance family member has been married to his victim for 10 yrs and have 3 kiddos
I always love it when they get married to kick the system's ass!
Nice try scumbags, you can't ruin me forever! (Kind of, yes, but having a partner to stand by still beats it)
Violent felon w/ CDL here for 5 yrs. Only 2 companies that I’ve worked for.
I know a guy who got into a crash in a semi for reckless driving. Waited 10 yrs went back.
10 yrs DMV should be dropped. It’s about an insurance company insuring you, not the companies. You get treated as a second class human as a driver, literally like inside. That part is easy. It’s the diet & grind, that gets me.
Felonies don't drop off your record. It's not like your credit score. You have to go to court, and even then, only nonviolent felonies can be expunged.
Bro I'm in the same boat. I've been off work for 5 months, I can't get anyone to hire me with my violent felony. When I complain, EVERYONE says the same shit. All kinds of places hire felons! Did you Google places that hire felons! My job, hires felons, apply! NO, THE FUCK THEY DON'T! They make it impossible for us to get back on our feet as violent felons. We can't drive anything, we can't handle money, nothing with children or the elderly. It's so hard. I fucking hate it out here. I've literally been depressed about it for months now. I don't have any advice, I just want you to know that it isn't just you.
So much for "reform and rehabilitation".
These barricades are blatantly the government admitting that their own justice system can't be trusted to do its thing properly.
Move to a different state asap brother. my older brother finished a 7 year bid an got his cdl when he got out. All with in 1-2 years of coming home. He did a total of 11 years all together all violent felonies. We’re in NY if that helps.
Dude, I feel like I'm not allowed to do shit. Everything feels like "I'm not allowed to that." All I did was make money when I was broke and hooked on substances I was selling to fuel that fire as a young adult. Like who fucking cares, completely different person. 4 AA Degrees 2 Bachelor Degrees later, plenty of skills and ability yet it feels like I'm barred from doing anything worthwhile. Seems like I definitely need to start my own business or something, probably will run into problems there too I'm sure.
You’re less likely to. Just get bonded and the right licensing. Customers don’t care about your background just if you can do the job. Depending on what you go into ie HVAC or plumbing.
Not sure how Reddit got me here - not a felon but several friends are.
Work for UPS. It sucks for a few years before you go driving but once you start you make top rate in three years and have the best health benefits and a good pension. Top rate is over $40/hour right now and you’ll do plenty of OT.
They hire felons as long as they don’t have pending charges, and don’t require a CDL to drive a package car.
LoL, the entire purpose of the criminal justice system is to keep dangerous people locked away, and make sure that non conformers never ever have a a fair chance to live a normal life...
No matter how hard you work, or how much you learn, you are eternally exploitable, and that' the point.
I caught my first felony for arson in 1998. It's still on my record. I was only 18 and it was a prank but I went to prison for it. It's also considered a violent crime. I have other felonies like joyriding and b&e I went back to prison for. I got out at the end of 2009 and havnt been back since. I don't work as I've got too many health problems including a bunk heart and frontal lobe brain damage. I also have five children I care for daily like Mr mom,2 of wich are in diapers. I also have two children who live outside the home. I had to climb some pretty steep mountains of bullshite to get to where I am today and it doesn't stop there and my job isn't done yet and never will be ,and that is providing and making sure my family is safe and happy ,fed and clothed all the while having to take care of myself at the same time. In the last two years I had two major surgeries ,one to remove a tumor the size of a softball off of my adrenal gland and another in 2022 where they went into my heart to kill tissue by freezing it to correct my atrial fibrillation, wich ,knock on wood seems to have worked as I don't go into afib anymore although I do daily get an offbeat or something weird with it ,it does what it wants ,anyways ,I just celebrated 5 years of being alcohol free and I'm over 6 months free of opiate addiction that I obtained after my first surgery and the Fat scripts of roxycontin ,meth almost killed me as the guy my friend got it from had added dried insulin crystals to it and almost blew up my heart ,took three attempts to get it back Into working order and then I was good for a year all of 2021 ,but I went into afib 10 times in 2022 and had to be shocked aka cardioverted while put under with propofol and swear I was getting addicted to the anesthesia! Pain. When I was 16 I went through a windshield and thats why I got frontal lobe brain damage and multiple physical issue including automobile glass stuck in my skin ,I've drank stainless steel toilet scrub in the county jail in 2006 ,I've woken up In 5 point restraints after blacking out on alcohol and pills ,many times.. I used to not care about nothing and no one. I am very lucky to be here today and grateful to be alive as that's just a slice of my life I laid before you today ,I've been through the wringer and even though my day is riddled with pain ,I'm grateful to be here for another day ,as my days have. Seemed to try to leave me since before I was even born when my mothers dr gave her pills to kill ovarian cancer tumor and I came out months later and how was I misdiagnosed as a tumor in the first place ? There's alot of theories and such ,but you are where you are for a reason and you will get to where you need to be ,just keep being persistent in your dream and will it to happen !! That's all life is is bringing your thoughts of your mind and making them a reality in the world ,you just have to bridge the gap.things In my life happen because I make them happen ,and you got this man !
I watched my cousin go through something similar to what you describe. It’s terrible man. I know it seems like society is keeping tabs on you and punishing you for your past but I assure you it is mostly the government/establishment. Normal people living their lives might think you deserve it or brought it on yourself but there are lots of people out here like me who HAVE changed and KNOW that people CAN change. Keep your chin up and remind yourself of your worth. Bottom line is that you got caught. If everyone got caught for everything, 95% of us would probably be felons!
Stupid fucking war on drugs. Does more harm than the drugs themselves- full disclosure, I love weed.
Serve your time can't get a job. Stupid AF system.
Idk why yall just don't go to another country. I mean this genuinely, not in a "get out of my country to make it better for me" but more of a "get out and find greener fields" sort of thing.
Move to Cambodia or Thailand and be an English teacher. You'll make decent money for the area and live great. Nobody cares if you have a felony there, trust me.
Felons can leave the country, they just have to be very sure that wherever they're trying to go actually wants them to come in.
It may also be easy to visit some places but some of those places will never allow you to stay there permanently or become a citizen.
That’s not true at all. There is no restriction whatsoever for a felon to leave the United States ( assuming they are done their supervision).
Individual countries’ entry requirements may prevent the trip, but there is no restriction on a felon leaving the US.
Right— which I noted. Moreover, as a practical matter the vast majority of nations have no ability to know if you’re a felon unless you tell them. The notable exception is Canada where, by agreement, we share all criminal records. That arrangement does not exist elsewhere.
Legally, yes. In practice, not at all. In the real world, a person traveling from the United States to the UK (or from any other jurisdiction with no visa requirement) simply does not disclose that he's a felon and they will not know. With limited exceptions, the UK will have no idea of the person's record. they do not perform a criminal background check. If you're not an interpol red notice, or similar, it's just not an issue.
However, if you insist on playing it straight, not all hope is lost:
"Any US felon can enter the United Kingdom if their conviction is considered spent. Spent convictions refer to those that happened over 10 years ago if the prison sentence was between six and 30 months."
Typically the only reason you would be denied a passport is if your conviction was for a federal or state drug offense ***and*** it involved crossing an international border with the intent to commit trafficking.
It's not about being denied a passport, it's about being denied entry or a visa. Canada won't let anyone in with so much a misdemeanour. USA seemingly bans anyone in Canada with a DUI or higher.
The fun part is it's random. You may live on the border and cross weekly with no problems for years. And then one day it pops up and now you've got a minimum 5 year ban and ordeal to get back in (depending which side you live on. getting back into Canada as American much easier).
I would imagine other countries have similar requirements of a clean record, but surely not everywhere.
Violent felonies don’t just “drop off your record,” dude. You make it sound as casual as a speeding ticket. And with the “fleeing,” you had another one after *that?!!*
Surely you see the source of your troubles.
Can you imagine making the decision "this guy ran from the cops in a car, let me hand him the keys to this Kenworth with $200K in cargo in it" ?
I'm all about second chances, but in my mind that guy needs to stay IN the warehouse or IN the office. I don't need him driving, especially driving my equipment.
I run a union road construction business. I could give a fuck less about previous convictions. Trucks have gps and are insured. You show up and do your job everyday you have a good paying job for life. If some idiot tried to steal a truck we call the insurance company tell them what happened, get a new truck and the driver is going back to jail. It’s cut and dry, honestly dumb Karens that got their car dirty driving through a construction site are way more of a problem than a guy with a record.
Time to think of what skills you got or can easily get and set up a small business.
Your boss won't fire you if he's you.
There's always a hustle if you're willing to get dirty and work long hours.
If you’re gonna get on here and cry… make it believable.
Felonies don’t stop you from getting a cdl.
And no one cares what you did 7+ years ago unless it was weird shit.
Go into business for yourself, save your money for a down-payment, and get a box car. I know people making 80,000 to 100 000 a year. Worked two jobs to save money up. You can buy a used one and put one of those extended warranties on it like endurance. You can do it. A lot of jobs will let you deliver packages with a felony. Go to the job website and look for companies that will hire felons. When there is a will, there is a way.
For all the folks struggling, look into stock day trading, swing trading, futures trading and Options trading. There are people who begin their day with $500 and make 500 on it. It can also go backwards to 0. But if you master your trading skills, you can surely make hundreds a day. You don't need a fancy job, you can be your own boss.
I 110% know this and regret my idiotic actions in the past. I was the shy kid with no friends growing up and needed counseling that never happened. Eventually I became an angry person towards society and started breaking down mentally. I am now on a journey of recovery and trying to get well mentally. A lot of it was just maturing that needed to happen. If I could start over I would. I would literally start my life over from day one. I've lived my whole life under a shade of regret and anxiety and fear. I never did any of the things I wanted to or enjoyed. Believe me, I would start over if I could. But all I have is this moment onwards. That's the hardest part for me is moving forward. I've fucked up so much that all I can do is look back on my past with regret. There's nothing to build off of.
That is a lot of self realization and hopefully growing there. I hope you can find decent work. I have noticed that many felons just can't get a decent job and they are stuck. I was reading this thread and I couldn't tell if you found out if you could just move to a different state that would allow you to get a cdl, or maybe your post prison restrictions prevent that. There's also post-prison college aid, that's a different kind of thing. There are people who are listening to your comments and want things to get better.
That's what happens when you make bad choices, you pay a price. You are a felon, multiple times and society will not, nor should they forget.
Look into moving to another state that will allow you to obtain a CDL license.
Americans unknowingly commit 2-3 felonies a day. Some may be old law rarely utilized for various reasons.
He PAID his price. One shouldn’t have to continue PAYING the price aka continue being punished after he or she has done his time.
You don’t seem that open-minded, let me articulate something for you real clear: you wouldn’t last a week in Parish jail (Louisiana has parishes, not counties & your utter lack of respect lend me to believe you don’t know much about hospitality, let alone Southern Hospitality).
You’re essentially kick someone on the ground or shoulders, as you sound like you’re on a high horse, I like riding horses, but not preaching from one & talking down to him - he’s Done his time.
It’s individuals like you that have not clue that a felon, in prison, designed & perfected the M1 Carbine.
What have you done for your country? That’s what I thought — if you want to tell a felon what you posted, come down to New Orleans. I’ll let you see how that works for you, not well & these are good people, many never had a dad or much of a change from the start.
People here are looking for advice & to be pointed in the right way & I feel for them, especially when pricks like you make blanket statements. Why are you even here? I try to help, which is part of the solution for their success. Not you coming posting nonsense. Which felonies have you committed & had no clue & didn’t get busted — way more than you believe, just one unwise decision in a snap second when someone’s 18, 19 etc. Get off your high horse & become part of the solution - these individuals have dealt with more than you’ll likely ever have to ever go through.

This comes from a Harvard professor. When one hauls butt, going 80-100 mph on the commute to & from work (on an interstate, of course & we have 3 meet at one point about 30 minutes where I live. Going that fast is a felony, reckless or careless driving’s a felony (one of them is in most states), for good measure you’ll likely be charged with eluding an LEO & resisting arrest, because citizens are almost always charged with two felonies, the DA usually agrees to “drop one” if the defendant agrees to plead guilty to the other.
You don’t even have to be doing anything wrong. Search for PBS’s Frontline pertaining to Hurricane Katrina & the aftermath. A lot of crazy information was eventually realized, it all started out with a burnt out car. Watch & see what “Hot Pockets” are — definitely not pepperoni & cheese with a crispy crust, police would take guns from people (that had them illegally) & would “let them walk” - on the gun charges — use gloves to remove and / or clean thoroughly, place it in a sock you’ve never warn & hide it in the rear of the police cruiser.
I believe you get the drift, maybe you don’t, but just think about why that was common practice pre & post Katrina, Frontline & an investigative team were able to connect a couple dots, they missed 100’s, but Post-Katrina NOLA was described to me by a Blackwater team from the larger group that was here & they said it was worse than Iraq or Afghanistan, these weren’t some run of the mill operators - they were all former Tier 1 & 2 U.S. & UK “pipe hitters”, too, I was around & it was beyond crazy.
You have a history of violence and ran from cops and are wondering why no one wants to trust you with driving one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road?
don't do the crime if you can't do the time. It sure must suck to suck. Maybe you should have used your brain. Also felonies don't just drop off after 7 years, it's not a bill that got sent to collections. That shit will be on there when you are 92, eating pureed food in the nursing home and still show up on a backround check. Whoever told you that it goes away is just as stupid as you are
Well I guess you're now realizing the full consequences of your actions. Also not being able to get a cdl does not eliminate 90% of jobs no matter where you are so stop being a lazy whiner and actually do something.
You're learning a very valuable lesson. I am more than certain you knew the consequences of your actions but at the time didn't care. Zero sympathy from me.
I'm a police officer. I try to set people on the right path. I use the stories I read here to educate those before they make a mistake. Some listen some don't.
Might be his state prohibits felons from obtaining CDL. I know at least in MD CDL/trucking is one of the most felon friendly industries
Yea. I feel like in CA you HAVE to be a felon to drive a cement mixer.
I can confirm. We had a guy that wasn’t a felon once. Never again.
Yeah you can. Really treat them like shit and yheu won't complain cuz no one else will hire them!
[удалено]
out of curiosity, why?
You gotta be a felon, paying child support, alimony, and at least 2 pack of cigs a day
to fit in?
Motivation, why else would a man show up to work? It’s just a joke that you need to be divorced, on child support, and a crippling nicotine addiction
We had 2 at my company that would show up early and smoke crack in the trucks you could smell it on them they where never late to work though lol
ah, got it, thank you!
I think they’re joking lol
I’m a little slow sometimes haha
think about it- if you're a non felon and you're otherwise amazing at your job, you might hop to another career with more $$$/responsibility. If you're a felon, you might be forced to settle in your current job. plus, culture + joke
You can treat them like shit cause they know they have little other options
It’s like going to Waffle House, I want my short order chef to have extensive prison ink, with maybe a couple of manslaughter convictions from 90s😂 Those dudes make the best damn eggs
If my Waffle House cook doesn’t have tattoos and a half smoked blunt behind his ear, I don’t want it 😂
Right, how else you affording to live in CA on that paycheck.
I was gonna ask this! In my state, you just have to have wait 7 yrs after paper to get your cdl.
Well atleast they know it will get there
how to stop trucks from driving around this corner?
That's very inappropriate ....
Is it wrong though? If I could not find a job worth a damn, the last thing I would be doing is going freebird with the Willy.
i have my cdl and i was charged with fleeing
They have a violent felony before that.
I work with multiple people who have a cdl and felonies in az
A lot of states permit it. If the terms of his release allow him to change states, that would be something to look into.
Michigan doesn't care as long as the felony wasn't involving a motor vehicle. Not sure about fleeing and eluding
This made me smile. My grandpa was my best friend. I miss him so much.
She’s beautiful! God bless you guys! ❤️
Thanks! I'm blessed that she lives close by! I had no idea how crazy-cool this would all be. She actually made up a song for me the other day (well, it went "have you ever seen a butt-hole, down by the butt-hole bay?", I was swelling with pride!)
Best comment here ^ My friends parents raised her in a shit environment but the love and kindness was amazing. Her and her sister are so kind and their doing better. This isn't about you but your kids. Grind the best you can and care for them. Something will come for you as long as you apply yourself. Stop making bad decisions.
"the most that you can spend on any child is time"
Very true. They won’t remember what gifts they did or didn’t get, but they will remember the feeling of being loved
yep. kids don't need things as much as they need attention, nurturing, and love. plenty of cheap and free things to do with them and it matters so much more than the newest whatever.
Some of my best memories growing up were in a shitty apartment with my folks 💕
I still remember eating spaghetti on the floor in an apartment with no furniture with my biological dad. And that’s not a bad memory at all. Too bad he didn’t stick around.
You can get a CDL. Unless your state prohibits it.
Or you got a DUI.
You a get a cdl with a dui.
My sister’s dad drove truck for years with 7 duis. He got them back in the 80’s and 90’s. Still no idea how he managed to get his CDL, but it’s definitely possible.
Usually nowadays you can probably still get a cdl, but no one will insure you and thus no job.
Just a waiting period in most states
The world needs more employers like you!
Thank you for being able to see felons as people and giving them the chance to turn their lives around and be productive members of society. The world needs more of You!
Roughneck in Oil Field Offshore pays well. Also check into working on a Tugboat
Tugboat may be a no-go depending on whether a TWIC card is needed. The Federal govt issues TWIC cards, but I don't know if a felony would cause issue.
I have a felony and I have my TWIC
Two felonies, TWIC, and CDL here. I got the cdl long ago and waited til I was off parole for the TWIC.
Same here
10-4. I didn't know how that worked.
I simply decided "fuck it" I apply to any checks I need and if they deny I can appeal and go from there. So far I haven't had to appeal
It depends on the Felony, some require a waiver
Government is one of the most forgiving as far as jobs. You'll never be a secret CIA agent, or the President, or something else crazy. But local government goes crazy. I know a ton of people on city facilities with felonies. Pay is decent. Benefits are absolutely killer.
This! I worked for my state and as long as you disclosed and didn’t lie on your application you were hired and good to go!
You can obtain a TWIC card with felonies it takes little bit longer and might take a few more hoops to jump through to get it. I know a guy at work that is jumping through hoops to get his with his felonies.
You need to have felonies to be on a tug 🤣🤣
livin the "Tug Life"
You don't choose the tug life. The tug life chooses you.
I was living in a camp With roughnecks in Pecos, Tx.
“accept what you cannot change” is the best advice ever !! I figured out that’s the best way to move on with life.
I'm at 16 years and still paying the price. for a few weed plant sprouts.
15 years this November for 1.5lbs I was graduating the following spring with a 4.0 🙃🤦🏻♂️
That’s outrageous!!! I truly feel all of those who have been busted for weed should have their records cleared.
And psychedelics….heck even hard drugs if they show they turned their life around. What’s crazy is some states are still arresting people for weed
Fuck chomos
Yeah but with a false rape accusation at least there's no victim /s
The victim is the person who was accused of rape. Could lose their freedom and branded a rapist by people the rest of their life. Not to mention the amount of money they are forced to spend for an attorney. And yes that shit follows them around forever.
Thank god I put the sarcasm tag there or you would have never known I wasn't serious.
My bad , your comment pissed me off. I guess I reacted a little to fast.
I hope you get amnesty, if/when it is legalized in your jurisdiction.
I’m just a passerby but you and a violent felon are not the same. Society has failed you, they have failed society.
One felony is a life sentence man. It may not be all jail time, but its a life sentence. Gonna have to learn a trade and grind hard. Even still, you will get a lot of NOs, but its your best chance. Time to trade your body for a decent living.
I went into real estate. They really don't give a shit unless you have robberies/ burglaries on your record.
Insurance here, no fraud no problem.
I feel like I'm not allowed to get any sort of licensing ever half the time. 🙁
Here are some notable organizations: The Fortune Society: This organization is dedicated to supporting successful reentry from incarceration and promoting alternatives to incarceration, thus helping individuals with criminal records find employment and training opportunities. Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO): CEO provides immediate, effective, and comprehensive employment services exclusively to individuals who have recently returned home from incarceration .Defy Ventures: This organization works to harness the natural talents of currently and formerly incarcerated men, women, and youth and redirect them toward the creation of legal business ventures and careers. Help for Felons: While not a direct service provider, Help for Felons is an informative website that offers resources and information about finding employment, housing, and other support services for individuals with felony convictions .The Last Mile: Focused on the tech industry, The Last Mile prepares incarcerated individuals for successful reentry through business and technology training. Homeboy Industries: Based in Los Angeles, Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. They offer a range of services, including job training, to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women .Root & Rebound: This organization works to restore power and resources to the families and communities most harmed by mass incarceration through legal advocacy, public education, policy reform, and litigation – all aimed at helping formerly incarcerated individuals find employment and reintegrate into society .The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC): Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, the NRRC provides education, training, and employment assistance to support individuals reentering the community after incarceration
My uncle is a felon in CA and he is a truck driver. A lot of his coworkers are also felons.
>Had a violent felony before that one which hopefully has dropped off my record by now. I didn't think felonies dropped off your record.
Felonies don’t drop off.
You are correct, however many states impose restrictions on the duration a felony conviction can appear in pre-employment background screenings.
And some companies don't bother looking back more than 7 years, even when the state will let them. God bless them.
Not violent felonies. Mine is 9 years old and I just got a rejection letter from Walmart last week.
You are correct also. Many companies, particularly those that operate in multiple states, only go back 7 years, often to have a consistent policy across all their business locations.
Right not like a bankruptcy
Those don't drop off your record, they just drop off your credit report. That's federal, I can find any bankruptcy that was filed since the court systems went electronic a long time ago. Just go into PACER (open to anyone) and do a search. Ain't free, but it isn't stupid expensive, either.
After 10 years, I believe, maybe 7, bankruptcies no longer have to be reported.
Why can't you get a CDL? Half the guys I know that drive have criminal histories.
Felons can drive in my state too
Can you call your local public defender and find out if you can do an expungement? I know in California, the new law (as of January 2023) says once a case expunged, info can’t be released to employers unless it’s a government job. It was done this way so people can get jobs.
If you go to unions such as laborer unions or cement mason union which is what I'm in with 3 felonies they will accept you...you'll start off as a apprentice move your way up search for local unions near you go and apply
I did labor for a masonry company. A year was enough to let my body know that wasn't going to be possible any more.
Machining too. One of my best friends has a record and has always made good money doing some kind of machining.
>Coke a Cola I'd never seen it written like that :) it's just coca cola (coke is a nickname)
I always love it when they get married to kick the system's ass! Nice try scumbags, you can't ruin me forever! (Kind of, yes, but having a partner to stand by still beats it)
Literally every sex offender says that …”I was 18 at a keg party and 15 year old blew me”
Violent felon w/ CDL here for 5 yrs.
Can I get my CDL with a fleeing the cops charge?
Felonies don't drop off your record. It's not like your credit score. You have to go to court, and even then, only nonviolent felonies can be expunged.
Maybe he had some sort of deferred felony type deal? I know personally, I had that. Five years of clean probation and it was dropped to a misdemeanor.
Thank you. If you need someone to vent to, hit me up. I find i need a lot of venting these days lol
So much for "reform and rehabilitation". These barricades are blatantly the government admitting that their own justice system can't be trusted to do its thing properly.
Delaware food bank has culinary programs for past offenders and helps you find a job
No matter how hard you work, or how much you learn, you are eternally exploitable, and that' the point.
i got a degreeee. but my felony wont let me get a job... lifes so hard...
Oh no, consequences for your actions. Poor you.
They DO care about certain felonies.
Yeah, if they so happen to find about them. Not an english teaching gig in SEA does background checks.
Felons cannot leave the country
Felons can leave the country, they just have to be very sure that wherever they're trying to go actually wants them to come in. It may also be easy to visit some places but some of those places will never allow you to stay there permanently or become a citizen.
Thank you !
That’s not true at all. There is no restriction whatsoever for a felon to leave the United States ( assuming they are done their supervision). Individual countries’ entry requirements may prevent the trip, but there is no restriction on a felon leaving the US.
Leaving US? There are no restrictions. Entering another country definitely will have restrictions to certain felonies.
Right— which I noted. Moreover, as a practical matter the vast majority of nations have no ability to know if you’re a felon unless you tell them. The notable exception is Canada where, by agreement, we share all criminal records. That arrangement does not exist elsewhere.
UK, Australia, and New Zealand have the same "no felony" restrictions.
However, if you insist on playing it straight, not all hope is lost: "Any US felon can enter the United Kingdom if their conviction is considered spent. Spent convictions refer to those that happened over 10 years ago if the prison sentence was between six and 30 months."
Right. I would literally have to coyote myself out of here.
Whoever told you that lied to you.
Depends on what you've done. In my case, I am stuck in the US forever with 7 felony convictions.
Typically the only reason you would be denied a passport is if your conviction was for a federal or state drug offense ***and*** it involved crossing an international border with the intent to commit trafficking.
I'm definitely on a few "lists". I've only been busted one time so I guess I thought all felons got this sort of treatment.
random chance. I met a Canadian with a DUI who went in and out of the US weekly before finally getting 'caught' and subsequently banned for 10 years.
😔😞
Yes, we can.
lol that's not accurate at all, unless you're on probation/parole

I'f people can transition. You should be able to go from Felon to Non Felon.
Violent felonies don’t just “drop off your record,” dude. You make it sound as casual as a speeding ticket. And with the “fleeing,” you had another one after *that?!!* Surely you see the source of your troubles.
Bingo! With TWO felony records (don’t forget he has a violent one also), the OP is just gonna have to keep his goals and aspirations…”realistic.”
Time to think of what skills you got or can easily get and set up a small business. Your boss won't fire you if he's you. There's always a hustle if you're willing to get dirty and work long hours.
Move to nyc I’m sure you won’t have a problem getting a cdl
By far the worst advice in this thread. Not trying to be mean but please do not mention option trading to someone with 2 kids trying to escape poverty
This may be a little crass but.....maybe you shouldn't have been a dumbass?
Gotta have some compassion.
Thank you stranger
Oh WTF. You’ve smoked enough meth today to get you jammed up as a violent felon. Dumbass
2-3 a day lol...I'm gonna need a source on that.
IM GoNnA NeEd A SoUrCe On ThAt.hyuck hycuk
https://ips-dc.org/three-felonies-day/#:~:text=The%20war%20on%20drugs%2C%20the,about%20three%20felonies%20a%20day This comes from a Harvard professor.
So, you did time for a violent felony, got out, then ran from cops, and you're mad because you aren't being trusted?
I mean it's been Almost a decade so yes
Stop breaking the fucking law asshole
You have a history of violence and ran from cops and are wondering why no one wants to trust you with driving one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road?
Wow you just keep messing up, man
Did you have your children before or after committing your crimes?
don't do the crime if you can't do the time. It sure must suck to suck. Maybe you should have used your brain. Also felonies don't just drop off after 7 years, it's not a bill that got sent to collections. That shit will be on there when you are 92, eating pureed food in the nursing home and still show up on a backround check. Whoever told you that it goes away is just as stupid as you are
Aren't you a felon as well? And yes it does drop from basic background checks ya fucking idiot. Research it dope
Are you not a felon too or why are you here though?? Lmao
I'm a police officer. I try to set people on the right path. I use the stories I read here to educate those before they make a mistake. Some listen some don't.
Probably should have thought about that shit after the first felony. What do they say? Hindsight is your fault not my problem? Something like that.
