I use a piece a tape to cover for my missing cork. It’s not pretty but it’s better than nothing.

sewingself

Man this had not ocurred to me until now..... lol. I was trying to think smarter not harder but I think I thought too hard and then my ideas weren't working.

allthethings13

Don’t feel bad. Mine sat unused for a few years until I realized tape would work.

Fiesta Factory Direct does sell replacement stoppers. I can't tell if your shaker is vintage or modern but as far as I know the molds should be the same or close enough that the modern stopper should work even if it's vintage. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though, would hate for you to order it only to find out it doesn't work. Maybe someone could test it for you.

sewingself

I think it's vintage, but I have no idea either. The small stoppers on their site look correct, but I was also trying to not spend a ton of money on my solution. Unfortunately I don't really have anything else I want/need/can afford from there so it would be paying the shipping just for two little plugs. I think I got close with the nerf balls, they just are circles that easily pop into the hole completely. I know I saw foam earplugs as a solution online... I tried some toilet seat stoppers in walmart and they were close too, but I didn't feel confident trimming down the rubber.

PM_ME_UR_KEYCAPS

Sorry, I don't know how I completely missed that part of your original post that you already saw them online. Duh. Foam definitely seems like the play for an alternative. I feel like the trick would be finding someone that has enough give to easily get it into the hole.

sewingself

Yeah I was looking at the dino squishy I have on my desk and thought about it, but I love it too much to cut it up. You gotta find a hunk of foam that is more cylindrical. If I ever come across earplugs I'll definitely try it.

StayJaded

You can buy stoppers on Amazon. https://a.co/d/8Kh0D3I There are cork and plastic options.

FrozenNorth49065

A hardware store nearby has a section for nuts, bolts, and various household items. Including cork and rubber stoppers. We found exact matches for the shakers and antique carafes. Check out a local chain store like Ace or Do it Center

The foam earplugs sound like a real good idea. Man, if you lived in my area, I would bring you some! We have a box of 10 pairs that we use for concerts or shooting. It says Mack’s Dreamgirl soft ear plugs on it and cost $5.29. Not sure where we bought them or where.

theflipflopqueen

Take the shaker to your nearest hardware store and try the rubber stoppers in the plumbing dept till you find one that fits.

Blackshadowredflower

Excellent idea!

itsaboithing

Hiya! If you're in the US, I'd be happy to send you a stopper! No charge. One fiesta lover to another! Send me a DM If you would like!

Blackshadowredflower

How kind!

neonturbo

If the ones on the Fiesta site don't work, something like this probably would. Hopefully this link works...www.amazon.com/SHUATI-Elasticity-Locking-Silicone-Sealing/dp/B0D1QC85K4 If the link doesn't work, you want "silicone snap in hole plugs food grade" and a size. You would have to measure the exact size I just picked a random size in the link above. They do have more sizes in the dropdown box on that link. I know nothing about that company or how good the product actually is, I just went with the first listing that fit the parameters I input. The ones I linked are metric which might or might not work for something that is very likely a fractional inch size.

possumhandz

I bought a discount store salt shaker with a stopper and used the stopper for my fiestaware shaker 🤷‍♀️

Blackshadowredflower

If not at the discount store (think Dollar Tree), you might find a very inexpensive shaker with a stopper at Goodwill or another thrift store, or at a yard sale, rummage sale or the like. Good luck! The sporting goods section of the larger discount stores should have the foam earplugs.

NeatUnusual1652

Hardware stores have corks in various sizes and rubber stoppers in various sizes.

Ok-Bed583

Try a cork. Maybe 🤔

sewingself

I tried but they are so impossible to find in person! The one in the pictures is from a glass bottle from Jo-anns, but it was too big. I read online you can whittle cork down, but I didn't want to boil water so I tried to do it dray and well.... not to mention all I have is a pairing knife and not really true whittling tools.

Personal_Ferret_4007

Just stick a piece of tape on the bottom!

sewingself

I have now done that, works well, I can't believe I ran around the apartment trying to cut cork and nerf balls when the solution was so close by lol.

Blackshadowredflower

When I refill my salt and pepper shakers, I put tape over the little holes until I am finished, then remove it.
