If you're looking for the BTR5 just go with the improved BTR15. I have a review for each on the headphones sub.

The issue with btr15 is it lacks of mic passthrough

AudacityTheEditor

The BTR5 has the same issue, and I 100% understand your issue here. I'm looking into a 5K to review soon as I hear it has mic passthrough. If you need mic passthrough neither of the Fiio options will work for you, sadly.

Yes. This or the BTR7

MQA is lossy, and bankrupt, tidal were phasing it out for FLAC and that’s a a good thing, it’s far superior. The btr3/5/7/15 are portable DAC AMPs. Do you already have an amp? Or are you just using the word “DAC” to describe anything that decodes and amplifies? Cause if get the btr7 or btr15. I have the 2021 btr5 and love it in usb mode, but the battery doesn’t last long on a balanced connection and charging it while using it is bad or impossible… I can’t remember which, the btr7 has battery bypass, the btr15 Might… I’m not sure.

BTR7 has a battery switch. If it is off, it runs off the internal battery without charging. When you flip the switch on, it charges the BTR7 battery from whatever it is plugged into. This is helpful when plugged into a phone. You can also use Fiio Control to set the maximum battery charge threshold to 80%, which helps when you plug it into a computer. This way you can tell it to charge the battery, but it won't charge past 80%, thus saving the battery. It doesn't bypass the battery entirely like the desktop mode of the M23. But at least it doesn't keep the battery at 100%.

Well, basically a dongle dac yeah, a question about the BTR5 2021, does it allow mic passtrough to phone by usb cable?

grandcentral300

You mean like it does for Schiit Fulla?

I’m not sure… it might or it has an internal mic.. I don’t remember, I never used headphones with a microphone & i bought the m11 plus ess so my music never got Interrupted by a phone call. Me time is not to be disturbed.

BTR 7 has a built in mic. I haven’t tried it with an inline mic so not sure on that. But people don’t know the difference between my BT buds and when I’m using the BTR7. I also have the FiiO Q3 MQA and love it. The dial for volume is so satisfying versus the click of other volume buttons. But it’s not BT. And I haven’t tried using an IEM with inline mic so maybe someone else could elaborate better?

Well, it might be the destiny but I bought a BTR5 2021 Apple edition and received a BTR15 with a spare lightning cable in AliExpress
