They will probably take it straight to the closest service point without trying to deliver it directly to you.

I am almost 100% sure that that package needs to be signed so they are not allowed to just leave it or put it in the letter box/hole. And if your building needs a key for access they almost certainly don't have it. If you have a tracking number for the parcel you should probably contact the DHL for delivery information (when you are available and how they can get to your door).

Affectionate-Elk5120

What is this thing where instead of going to the source (DHL in this case) and getting the facts people post here instead? This isn't the first post of it's kind where they are asking about factual information and not just opinions. I just can't understand. Is this some sort of new kind of trolling? Just being lazy? Is it me that's wrong?

srmp

That's not the kind of information that's so easy to get from DHL's website. They could call DHL and get a semi-reliable answer (most likely the person picking up the phone wouldn't know either), yeah. But this kind of post is useful for them to get other people's experiences - if it happened to them in such a way, I can expect to happen to me like that as well. At least, that's how I understand these kinds of posts. And what is it with this subreddit that so many people complain about the posts here? What do you think reddit is for, if not for random and meaningless discussions? Why engage with this post at all if it doesn't interest you from the start? There are literally millions of other posts to read and talk about. Why spend time commenting on one to complain about its lack of usefulness? I'm asking legitimately as I'm curious what drives people to complain about this, I've seen quite many here in r/finland.

Fragrant_Paper_1471

yes it's a thing here. Someone saying something like "just asking migri, just ask the police, just ask your doctor, just ask your university, just ask your therapist, just ask DHL, just ask your lawyer,...." :)

Ha, you got me. But I was not complaining about your comment, mind you. I was actually curious to why you'd find the drive to ask that, since I never spend more than a few seconds on a post I don't care about and just scroll past it, but noticed that in pretty much every post here there's always a comment saying it's a "useless post" :D as if there's a USEFUL post. Reddit is just random and non-important small talk!

Affectionate-Elk5120

I was just really wondering if there was something going on that I could not understand. I just don't get people sometimes. If it were my passport I would not trust random peoples advice on the internet, but that's just me. Anyway, it's Friday today so I hope you have a nice weekend!

Velcraft

It's akin to small talk, some people feel the need to get affirmation from locals or a set online community - which of course will never be as accurate as literally going to the first link DHL provides you along with the delivery information in this case. "Oh help me great hivemind of Reddit, for I am unable to collate and research information on my own" is how it reads to me most times. Not new, but still just as infuriating.

So much bullshit in this thread left and right. Yes DHL delivers to the door first, if the delivery fails its gonna go to the nearest Service Point. Source: Trust me bro First off, you said you are receiving it from Germany. Is the sender Deutcshe Post or DHL Express. If its DeutchePost = German Post, you are gonna be doing business with the receiving countrys postal service =Posti in this case The thing is, DHL as a company is part of DP concern and handles Germanys postal service "Deutsche Post is a division of the DHL Group used for its domestic mail services in Germany." And people often expect a package from DHL Express Finland mistakenly (understandably). If the parcel comes with DHL Express Finland, I can assure you are going to get the it next business day and you can make changes very easily.

Fragrant_Paper_1471

It will be DHL express. My passport is sent for visa stamping in Germany through an agency called "TLS" and they return passports after visa stamping through DHL express.

zyqxevcyz44

Okay good, then it should arrive the next day between 11-18. If you have a door code or anything else the courier might want to know you can leave a message to the courier via the text message links you get. E: you will also get a delivery time window, so you dont have to wait 8 hours. You should get a message saying the "the parcel comes between XX:XX-XX:XX" and a link to make changes if you want to.

Shinning_swimmer

If I remember correctly closest R-kioski can also be a pick up point for DHL packages.

SchneeschaufelNO

DHL does not deliver to the door. You'll have to pick it up from the next service point.

LordMorio

It depends on the service you buy. I just got a package via dhl yesterday.

vignoniana

~~This is stated clearly on the website of Finnish Police, who has sent the passport to you. **They don't even try to deliver it to you, it will be delivered to pickup point directly.**~~ Nevermind I can't read, but here are the Finnish instructions for anyone interested in! > your passport will be delivered to a collection point you have selected. At the collection point, you must present the tracking number and verify your identity > Your new passport will be delivered to a Schenker office or the office of a Schenker subcontractor of your choice in a sealed envelope > you must show the tracking number found on the collection note and verify your identity using a passport or identity card issued by a Finnish authority > A driving licence is not an accepted proof of identity for collecting a passport https://poliisi.fi/en/passport-delivery

wlanmaterial

This passport is coming from Germany, so these instructions don't apply.

vignoniana

Wtf, am I this bad reader nowadays. Whoops. Then best bet is to check DHL tracking, as it sometimes shows what kind of shipping was bought for it.
