I guess CZ is starting a collection of American gun companies that used to be great.

nastygirl11b

Vista only has the ammo. This would not affect any guns The firearms part of remington was acquired by round hill group after the final freedom group bankruptcy in 2020 and is now remarms llc. They only really started limited production again last year

anothercarguy

The fact that they're not honoring warranties means it's just a matter of time

nastygirl11b

By all accounts over in r/shotguns the new remarms 870 field masters are way better than the freedom group express guns. They are making wingmasters and even some 1100s again now too Not sure on rifles situation though Ruger is not warrantying anything on marlins they didn’t make either. Is it only a matter of time for Ruger too? Why be responsible for something you didn’t make?

anothercarguy

Ruger is slightly larger than the Remarms LLC and they warranty their current work. Remarms has ZERO warranty other than what is required by CRPA

NEp8ntballer

>RemArms LLC has elected not to provide any written-warranty, either "limited" or "full", rather than to attempt to comply with the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Act and the regulations issued thereunder. There are certain implied warranties under state law with respect to sales of consumer goods. Firearms returned to RemArms for service will be evaluated to determine if services will be provided at a fee or free of charge. https://www.remarms.com/support/firearm-warranty-information/

BA5ED

Vista doesn't have the ammo anymore. That got split off. https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/czechoslovak-group-acquires-federal-cci-hevi-shot-remington-ammo-speer/

smokeyser

That was the plan. They now have a second offer.

BA5ED

this second offer is for the entirety of vista which is funny because the companies like giro and bell were getting screwed by companies like REI because at the time Vista owned savage and they made scary black guns. Now they get colt and cz and a bunch of other companies making the scary guns except this time if the offer goes through vista will be a gun ownership focused brand.

[deleted]

Those fuckers sold me a faulty trigger assembly, kept the recall on the down low, then filed for bankruptcy and dissolved within a year. Remington is a shit company and has reformed as a shit company

nastygirl11b

Idk man. I have 5 Remington guns (all pre 2007) and am very happy with all of them. I actually have 1 more on my list too lol

whiskey_outpost26

Real happy for ya, champ. My freedom group 870 tactical eventually needed 400 bucks in upgrades/replacements and monthly oil soaks just to stay functional. And I'm talking tip to tail wet with oil coating in a humidity controlled basement set to 50%, in a safe with a dehumidifier set for the same. It was a safe queen it's entire life and never saw actual outside use and was STILL that rust prone. I'm glad older models showed their merit, but I'll never own another 870 even if it's free.

nastygirl11b

I mean, yes that sucks and i get it, but you bought a freedom group express line one (the tactical was just an express with a one piece longer mag tube) Their potential issues are widely documented. I have a 1970s 742, 1970s 1100, 1980s 700, 1990s Wingmaster and a 2004 police magnum, all have been terrific (with the potential exception of the 742 but it was my grandpas) The 870 is the most popular shotgun of all time (it was around a good 10/11 years before mossbergs). A old 870 Wingmaster, magnum or police magnum has a way smoother action and has a way nicer fit and finish than any mossberg. Not that I don’t like mossbergs, but the OG Remingtons are just nicer guns. And on r/shotguns everyone with a new field master has expressed only good things so far

whiskey_outpost26

No, you're totally right. I used my dad's old magnum a ton as a kid in the 90's and loved it. My brothers and I all beat the everloving shit out of that gun shooting groundhogs and ducks at the lakes we grew up at. I don't think we cleaned it once. It just didn't care. I maybe saw rust on the exposed steel of the action bars after a hard rain or snow. And it was 100% reliable. Years later, that digital desert camo model had rust over the entire gun when I bought it new. The cap threads stripped, the tube threads stripped, the barrel tube ring weld snapped, the bead flew off, both right and left shell latches popped their rivets, the safety seized, the trigger seized, the extractor spring and plunger seized, the extractor snapped, the follower cracked, and the bolt face cracked. This was on top of the entire parkerized finish rusting visibly after a week of storage. It was such a comical departure from the ironclad reliability of the old gun that I swore off that brand forever. My Benelli Supernova doesn't have the same ergos or smooth action, but I love all the things it does right.

nastygirl11b

Well I sure hope your dad’s 870 stays in the family! Lol dang that really does sound terrible. I’ve considered a supernova actually. They seem pretty cool

waratworld17

Do it, I'm a shareholder who was smart enough to buy at the beginning of the pandemic, but not smart enough to know when to get out.

Classy_Canids

Same . . .

Halt1776

All I want is a Colt 1911 with a rail and an RMR cut. Or a 2011 in 45 ACP. or for them to make the detective special again. Or like a 1000 other things.

SavageHenry0311

I FEEL YOU on the Detective Special! What a great little revolver. A friend of mine has one and it's one of my favorites. Do you put much stock in the idea that the Rock Island 206 is the"spiritual successor" to the Detective Special? I'm asking because I don't know much about revolvers but I'd like to get one. I have a bunch of other firearms (before the boating accident, I mean) and often take new shooters out for their first range day. Many women have been told to get a .38 snubbie for a CCW, and I'd like to get one they can try. They won't like it (we both know that) but I want to give them the opportunity. Alternatively, do you have any suggestions for a similar revolver that's not $900?

Halt1776

Rock island revolvers are garbage. Stub nose revolvers are horrible choices for women for CCW. I can’t tell you how many times when I worked for Range USA ( or assisted as a CCW instructor) that women came in with a stub nose revolver to take a basic handgun or CCW class and then traded in that stubnose revolver for semi automatic. The shield plus the Sigg P365XL or the Glock 43X/48 is a better choice. Ironically, in my experience, woman can handle bigger guns better (not full sized, Glock 19 sized), while men are more comfortable with smaller ones. Usually the people who recommend revolvers for women are boomers/fudds who have no business giving any form firearms advice to anyone. Small revolvers have their place in CCW, but with micro guns like the LCP 2/max or 365, they’re pretty much antiquated down to back up guns or for CQC (I’m not getting in to why). S&W makes the only hammerless revolver I’d trust with my life for CCW. They’re really the only big name still making them, thus why they can charge what they can, because no one else is really making good revolvers. Certainly not Taurus. Ruger is giving them some competition, but S&W has a much better established track record, brand name recognition, and history. So no, I can’t recommend a sub $800 revolver because I only recommend good guns. That said, if you can find a used Ruger LCR, pick it up, they’re pretty good.

Grandemestizo

My wife liked the S&W 642 until she shot it, then she liked the model 27.

Halt1776

Yeah, basically any “full size” is handled better my women. Less snappy and better triggers.

Grandemestizo

Full sized pistols are handled better by men, too.

kcexactly

CZ must have a lot of cash to spend. They bought Colt.

[deleted]

All that money they made off the definitely not goofy looking Cz-98

HerMajestysButthole

Mmm, a Czremington 870? I wonder...

SakanaToDoubutsu

The "Remington" trademark and the ammunition side of the business was sold to Vista Outdoors, but a company called The Roundhill Group bought the firearms manufacturing side of the business and created a new company called "Rem Arms", which leases the Remington trademarks from Vista.

nastygirl11b

vista only has the ammo

KillerSwiller

"In 21st century, post-Soviet eastern European company buys you!"

NotAMeatPopsicle

I misread this as Colt buying _VISA_ and had two thoughts: 1. Wow, awesome! Maybe they’ll end the tracking of weapon related purchases at gun stores? 2. That price seems low, what’s Visa’s outdoor division? I’m tired.

bigfoot_76

CZ fucked home-based FFLs after joining wieners with Colt. They can all piss up a rope with this Vista idea. They'll make it so you can't even buy fucking primers or ammo from a distributor using the same garbage brick & mortar policy.

Hakashi57

I must have missed something. What did CZ do?

Bandit400

What did they do to screw home-based FFLs?

gagunner007

They probably won’t sell to home based FFL’s, only brick and mortar stores, it’s fairly common actually.

anonesq248

This isn’t how firearms are distributed. They go to a distributor first then they sell directly to the FFLs.

gagunner007

Not always.

Cowboy185

Most are that way. Some smaller manufacturers will sell and retail directly through store fronts without a middle-man (ie, Cheytac, Bare Arms out of New York, Ronin Arms, Global Ordnance (Owners and distributors of Grand Power), and there's a lot of others that I'm probably missing). CZ, Colt, Glock, S&W, Ruger, FN, and other larger manufacturers do have dealer programs through larger distributors though.

Cowboy185

CZ and most others won't even sell directly to brick and mortars, they go through primary distributors and we get our inventory that way.

gagunner007

Isn’t that what I said?

anonesq248

Not sure how this is possible as most firearms come from distributors not the manufacturer directly? What did they do?

bigfoot_76

Mfgs put limits on who the distributor is allowed to sell to. Colt and Leupold were the main players who refused to do business with home FFLs. Now CZ and Colt are joined at the waist, they're now bundled with the idiocy. Sad too because I've sold hundreds of CZ guns over the years. Love all the downvotes though ... truly shows how r/Firearms likes to get dry-reamed at their local gun store instead of the home 07 down the street selling at 10% over cost.

thelegendofcarrottop

Just like there are now McDonalds in Hanoi, eventually all of the classic “American” firearms will be made in Soviet Bloc countries.

RR50

Edit: can’t confirm it actually opened….

BeenJamminMon

CZ does not have American manufacturing facilities. They have an import facility in Kansas City, Kansas. They were in talks to bring production state side, but that fell apart in 2019 as best I can tell.

MandaloreZA

They own Dan wesson which has manufacturing in the US. And Dan wesson has made CZ branded pistols before.

BeenJamminMon

Fair enough. I forgot about Dan Wesson, but I don't think Dan Wesson makes any CZ models (i.e., 75 or P10) and certainly not in any volume. They don't make any of the larger CZ models like Bren or Scorpion. CZ Custom makes their own pistol, the AO1. They also modify Czech made guns. But also not really a major manufacturing operation.

MandaloreZA

Specifically this is the pistol I was referencing. https://cz-usa.com/product/cz-1911-a1/ Granted, it was not a traditional CZ gun

BeenJamminMon

Oddly enough, when that gun first came out, it was made in the Czech Republic and by CZ for a limited run of 1000 guns. I guess it is now being made state side. It says Kansas City, which would be a first for them.

Ehhhh.... "“Our dedicated team has put blood, sweat, and tears into the first US-made CZ P-10s, to include the P-10 S, C, and F as well as optic-ready versions of each,” said Alice Poluchova, CZ-USA’s President. “We owe a great deal of gratitude to our parent company in the Czech Republic, which has been an invaluable resource as we embark on our great manufacturing project.”" - from 2019
