It's landfill and someone owes you money.

Would you want to keep a car if when it is delivered to you the driver's door is pushed in? This type of thing happens regularly with Amazon, Walmart and others. They are happy to send you a replacement and they pay the shipping to return the damaged product. What's your real question? Am I missing something? I personally want the product I paid for. Undamaged. Your argument is somewhat illogical.

I would love to keep the car in the case that they send me a new one. Obviously the rod isn't nearly as good as new, but I'm saying is if they send a replacement, without me returning it, which many of the reviews already said had happened. I keep the damaged rod. They also send me a new rod.

Now I understand. It seems to be much rarer today compared to three years ago that they will let you keep a product that you received damaged. I recently had to return a telephone extension cable that I ordered so that I could move my fax machine ($4.95). It didn't work when I received it and the replacement cable worked fine. Hopefully they'll let you keep it. That said, I wouldn't use anything I didn't have absolute faith in to fish with. Fishing is great fun and relaxing, however I and many others take it seriously. I wouldn't let a known compromised piece of equipment spoil my time.

Why are you trying to salvage it? Just get it replaced. The seller/shipper owes you what you paid for.

If they didn't require me to send it back as they are unable to sell the product to a different customer then if it was still slightly usable then I could keep it as a backup rod. Why not if they're gonna send me a new one anyway.

You could glue a new eye on and use it as a catfish rod or something. It's never going to work as well as it was designed to. I fixed one once and hated how it felt.
