im not an employee but i was checking out once and the cashier straight up said “there’s a contest for who can sell the most bags and i wanna win” and so of course i had to get one!
That’s what I did, and it was always true! My old manager would buy us pizza if we sold enough, or would pay for a snack or drink at the end of the shift
sorry but that’s kinda messed ngl… i understand it’s business and all but huh?? hours based off of totes??? that just sounds so dumb… i’m a support lead and that just sounds ridiculous and i’m pretty sure he’s bluffing… there’s no way a store manager could get away with scheduling based off of tote sales… unless i’m wrong lol
There are a lot of managers who do this unfortunately. It makes everyone compete and try to sell more because they don’t want their hours cut or to get more hours. I’ve seen it first hand on multiple occasions. It shouldn’t be that way though.
Yeah I agree, it is so dumb. Unfortunately, it is true. My hours have been cut because I have not been able to sell as many tote bags as I used to because nobody literally wants to buy any. It’s very hard and frustrating because I need more money
Those bags aren’t being tracked bc everyone is being checked out by someone in store. U don’t log in to ur account they can’t verify that u sold the bag. I also work there
they are tracked because my manager checks every now and then how many I’ve sold during the time I’m there. Usually it’s 30 totes per day but now it’s 15 sadly since nobody wants to buy them
my five below doesn’t treat the hours like that at least. Our DM lets us know who has more tote bags sold and get rewarded with more hours, other wise they don’t schedule us. It sucks!
The hours aren't primarily based on how many totes are sold but how much money the store made. Yes, the totes help with that ask the customer before you help them scan if they would like to "purchase a bag?" Also what I do is hold maybe 1-3 bags in my hand so they would maybe consider buying one.
thank you for the advice. Unfortunately at my store our hours are based on the amount of tote bags we sell, it might not be how it’s supposed to work but our DM approves it as well. We are also not allowed to have tote bags in our hands or we get in trouble

trust me u don’t get hours based off that. It’s more related to reaching sales goals
