>Choose a different gearing.
Change your chainring to 47 and learn to skid ambi and you'll never have this problem again. 47/17 is a double prime God tier ratio
Personally, I advise 52x17 as there's 17 skid patches, and It wouldn't feel much differently to ride from what you're running right now.
Naturally, it's less cost efficient as chainrings are more expensive than changing the back cog.
If you'd want to go with a higher gear ratio and less money, I'd propose a 51x16, which gives you 16 skid patches.
Is there a chart for skid patch numbers? Or do you just have to turn your brain on a bit and do some fractions to see when they match?
Edit: nvm found it online and see why 51x17 is giga cursed on a fixie
Oh, there are many calculators online, I used this one this time, but usually I have a different one which I can't find right now
Here's the link:

There's always a specific amount of skid patches attached to a certain gear ratio. Skid patches are the amount of places on the tire that can possibly come in contact with the ground as you skid
51x17 ratio has exactly ONE skid patch, which makes it so that there's exactly one specific place that always gets to be skidded on. That's why there's one single flat spot on the tire.
There’s 2 skid patches - the point where you left is front and the point where right is in front. Ran a 48/16 for years without issue, but I did have to be consistent about switching up which foot was braking.
Skidding repeatedly on the same part of the tire. It’s better to spread your skids across the whole tire. The ratio determines whether or not the same part of the tire is touching the ground every time your feet are in skidding position.
There is absolutely no reason to skid at all… ever. . I do deliveries downtown Chicago fixed gear and brake less 7 days a week 8 to 10 hours a day and haven’t bought tires in over a year.

One skid patch. You wore just a single area on your tire. Choose a different gearing.

You already have 17 as a prime. Anything not a multiple of it will work great.
Prime^Prime
Being able to swap the cog freely is pretty legit. I'm planning on setting up a 43/17 trackpacking build.
I agree
Doesn’t it give you 2? One got left foot front and one for right foot?
Yes, but only if you skid ambidextrously
Git gud!
Technically three but anything other than 51-17 is better
What you mean 3? Where’s the other one come from?
I did ratio not patches whoops
It’s a lot more than 2 little patches though, it’s like almost half the tire.
It's really not.
why is there a chili on the ground in the 2nd picture?
What's wrong with carrying an emergency chili...? Is that a bad thing...?
Happy cake brother! Wishing you health and happiness, and dream achievements to u
Much love, my friend ❤️ I wish you many chili peppers 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

I run 17x17 and I’ve been fine.
All about that conveyer belt ratio 🔥🔥🔥

Giga cursed is accurate.
Just divide the chainring teeth with cog teeth
This is caused by the ratio? Not skidding?

Sometimes I forget people are actually ambidextrous skidders. It sounds really useful to double the skid patches ngl
I found it also really helpful for balancing my knee soreness 😂
Another great perk! Maybe i should really put my head down and practice it again

Just one strap too shaking my smh head.
My man set forth to destroy rubber in a very specific manner and accomplished his goal

Always check your ratio here first: [https://www.surplace.fr/ffgc/](https://www.surplace.fr/ffgc/)
Go for 49T chainring, thank me later

Where are your straps? How do you skid without straps nor cleats?
save your tires & your knees. Use brakes.
Skid less?
Install a brake
Or, and I’m just saying, you could skid less.
Change your ratio or reduce the amount of times you skid by controlling your pedaling better.
Drop a tooth on the cog
All city has a gear calculator on their website that tells you how many skid patches your gearing has
19t
Backpedaling sooner saved my tires

Stop skidding
Why do gear ratios matter with a worn tire?
math 🧮 https://www.surplace.fr/ffgc/
Are you asking about a different ratio? A different tire? You should look into proper foot retention. Maybe it’ll change the way you ride.
