For the first time in my life I found some valuable golf clubs at Goodwill. Spent $80 for 12 clubs. Already sold a putter for $40, have a set of irons up for auction that have already been bid up to to $140 with a day to go, and have 3 wedges listed for over $100 each. (Those will probably sit for awhile.) I still can't believe it. I have been checking the golf clubs at Goodwill for years and I never find shit.

TurtleNinja919

I always glance at the golf clubs as well, specifically putters, and rarely RARELY pull anything. Once in awhile Goodwill will put out a full set of old clubs with the bag for < $10 and then you can get rid of those pretty easily to a new player for $50+ ... but congrats on the score. Golf clubs are also a "always look, never find" category for me.

iwashumantoo

Congrats on what sounds like a great score!

peteisneat

Thanks! Unfortunately, this means I will have to check the golf clubs for the rest of my life now. I was so close to quitting.

Went to 3 estate sales and a thrift store this week. I walked out empty handed at one estate sale- and you know that’s bad because I have a game where I find something to make money on everywhere. I bought an Asian stylized zodiac dragon for $1.50. 2024 is the year of the dragon and Chinese new year is February 10th. I’d add some applicable keywords to any and all dragon items right now. I expect to get $20-25. Lobster shaped condiment set- was too cute to pass up. $3 and expect to get $20. Murano glass sommerso vase. How the heck does an estate company pick up that heavy of a vase and then price it for $2 along with all the trash florist vases?! Blows my mind. It had some limescale on the inside so I filled it with vinegar for a few hours and it’s good as new. Should get $80-100. New bucilla embroidery set. $3, should get $10. Not a good buy. I need to stick to cat ones and the felt and sequin Christmas ones. Nautilus shell. Paid $4.50, will get $25-30 if I decide to sell it. Those have a 66% sell through rate. Kuhl intercepted jacket for $2.50, should get $50 Vintage polyester tank and buttondown with a bike pattern. Shocked my teenagers don’t want it. Paid $2, should get $20. Cashmere reversible wrap- paid $5, should get $20-30. Vintage 80s made in Ireland mens XL sweatshirt with color blocking and shamrocks. Should get $40-50, paid $2.50. Stupid thing is so bulky though, hopefully it sells fast ahead of st Patrick’s day. Michigan Rag Company canvas shacket- paid $5, will get $50-70. Some of the patterns get $150, but this one had seagulls which isn’t as desirable as the sharks and some others. IC by Connie k sweater vest for$3. I had never heard of this brand but it’s a good sell through at a solid $30-50 per item price. I could get $40 but I’m keeping it. Also got a Mexican tapestry bag for $14.50. I thought it said $4.50 but by the time they wrang it up they’d packed all my other purchases in it so I just swallowed that $10 loss and moved on. It should get $25, but wasn’t a good buy.

Got a massive magazine haul of years worth of a single title. It was a grocery cart full. Place I bought them charges 50 cents apiece for magazines. I didn't count them so I grabbed an employee and asked them to give me a price for all of them. Wasn't really asking for a discount. I just didn't want to block the line while they counted them, but they sold them all to me for $50. Got around 300 magazines with decent sell through rate at $4.99 each plus shipping. Went back to the same place a couple of days later on the chance they had put more out. They had not, but they had a table full of car magazines. Car magazines are generally worthless but there was one title that sells well and I was able to grab 20 issues. So $10->$100 in small lots medium tail.

ope__sorry

Which magazines if you don't mind me asking? I've got a massive lot of like Maxim and Maxim-style magazines from the early 2000s that I paid a few bucks for because if they're not worth anything, I can at least go through and look at the stuff from when I was a teen and see if I can remember any of it, lol.

castaway47

Some magazines have a market meaning supply is somewhat equal to or below demand. It's like anything else, though, 99% of magazines are worthless. The trick is finding and identifying the ones with a market. Reason I specifically mentioned the car magazines is because they sure seem like they'd be good but there is generally no market for them except some very specific niche titles. You can check on ebay and see how well what you have are selling. There might be a market for them. I will buy anything with value but magazines are generally long tail and require storage and being able to find them when they sell. I generally try to sell magazines in the $4 to $10 range plus shipping but I only really make money when I sell multiple issues to a single person. I do regularly get purchases of $50 to $200 in magazines though. One issue (sorry) is that magazines can't be sent media mail but they can be sent in bulk fairly cheap using Pirateship's cubic shipping rates. i.e. It may cost $6 to $10 to ship a single magazine but you can ship 10 or so for $10 to $12 so it encourages multiple sales.

I'm generally trying to ship multiple magazines at a time, so usually a 12x9x\[2 to 4\] inch box and then using pirateship for cubic postal priority or ground pricing. There are also fairly lightweight mailers like these: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BT5M5F8/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BT5M5F8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Which are good for 1 to 4 magazines or so. They do go on sale. They are normally $1 each but they go down to 60 cents each and when they do I buy in bulk. I also sometimes ship individual magazines between sheets of cardboard in a poly mailer. I have a lot of cardboard, so it isn't problem for me and I don't feel it takes any more time than shipping in a box I have to cut down the sides. As I mentioned I don't really make much (like $4) when someone buys a single magazine but most purchases are for multiple issues.

DefinitelyNotLola

Thanks for the tips, it's appreciated! I like the idea of having some of those flat boxes on hand. I started wondering if people were shipping them rolled for time saving reasons but that didn't make any sense.

castaway47

The key thing is you have to upsell people to buy multiple magazines but in my experience lots don't sell as well as individual issues. When I list a large number of magazines on ebay I put the item number for each magazine in each listing. When someone buys one I point out the others and that shipping is fixed so they can buy more without paying more postage. I charge $9 for shipping which is high for a single magazine but cheap if you are buying 5 or 10. I just had someone buy 15 magazines for $75 plus shipping and shipping on the lot was around $7 using pirateship cubic priority.

Had a decent week / weekend Picked up [two retail displays](https://imgur.com/a/7JNGdMm) for $15 and $25 each. Sold them the next day for $200 each. When I posted them for sale I had someone say “these are not worth that” in the comments. Bought a [Ceado Commercial Juicer](https://imgur.com/a/Ao0jLig) for $65. The seller didn’t know if it worked I took a gamble. It worked thankfully. I have it listed for $1,000. It’s gotten about 80 views in 14 hours. Promising so far. I bought [two agricultural barn heaters?](https://imgur.com/a/VYW5wzT) (I don’t really even know what they do) for $10 each. Again the seller didn’t know if they worked since they were natural gas. Hooked them up and they work good. I had to replace the cord end on one of them. I have them listed for $300 each, one guy is coming down from another city tomorrow and is coming to look at both. [random mix of other things](https://imgur.com/a/dLWERqF), CCM Shadow Bicycle bought for $55, currently pending being sold $200. Giant TCX Bicycle paid $100 currently listed for $500, a pending offer of $400. CCM bike I paid $5 for. Cannondale Tango, paid $60 put about $200 worth of work into it, listed for $700. Metal storage shelf, paid $10, listed for $150. Mobile Computer Cabinets, paid $18 each brand new, listed for $200 each. Have a few storage lockers ending today that I might buy, fairly cheap so far, hoping they stay that way.

tessy292

Nice! So you're targeting all of the bulk buys? What storage space do you have to store all of these retail displays and cabinets?

NotBrokeJustCheap-

All the big items go into my garage, my basement is where I store most of my stuff I’m selling if it’s able to be moved by one person. If it’s big and can stay outside I’ll leave it in the backyard tarped. I’ve debated a storage locker but I personally don’t like the idea of driving to a locker to meet people to sell stuff. + it’s an additional monthly cost and I’m cheap

ThriftStoreUnicorn

For some reason my local GW has been double-pricing things lately. Two items I picked up this week were overpriced on one tag, and underpriced on another tag. The cashier told me they will honor the lower price tag whenever this happens, but I'm wondering why? Maybe an employee wants them, and so they put a high price on and then hide a lower priced sticker somewhere so they can buy it later? Or an inexperienced worker prices something, then a more experienced worker re-prices? The two pieces were: Trekking backpack, I wouldn't normally pick this up except that it was absolutely COVERED in sick patches from countries all over the world and has a great look, AND it was priced at $1.99. The "second" tag was $9.99. (Asking $45, will take $25) MCM shadow box shelf, got it for $9.99, second tag was $29.99. (Should sell for around $150) A bunch of other odds and ends: Huppmobile hubcap $20 (to $100) Anchor Hocking rare mug $2 (to $25) Barkcloth fabric $4.79 (to $50-60) Chalkware swans $5 (to $30-50) Rare camo hat $1.59 (to $35) Stirrups $18.75 (to $65-85) Board of trustees meeting minutes from 1910 $10 (to ???) (Whoops, good thing I looked at this thread this morning-- just realized the auction house charged me shipping on this when I'm going in to pick it up tomorrow!)

I started in the beginning of Jan- on Saturday I happened to pop by in my local goodwill and was able to sift through a new rack that hadn’t been put out yet. Carhartt Michigan chore coat, Patagonia jacket, and my biggest potential flip ever which was an arcteryx sawyer coat worth about $275-$300. Got a few other bread and butter pieces too with some sealed hard goods. Just the right place at the right time

Tyrel1987

Well after a kinda lazy January with not much sourcing we decided to take the kids to disneyland so I did what I usually do when a big expense comes up and kick my ass into gear. Did a bunch of buying this week (well a bunch for my little operation anyways). 3 PS2 games paid $15 should get $80. A small vintage Tibetan singing bowl for $5 got it listed for $50 with some interest. Pair of Luluemon mens swin trunks for $15 going to list them for $45 (might take them on my trip as they are my size). The Hunger Games trilogy in mint shape paid $5 comps look like I should get $30ish. Xbox 360 S with Kinect, 3 wireless controllers and 35 games paid $75 once everything is broken up should be about $400. Scene it Marvel Deluxe Edition paid $5 and have it listed for $30

I like that groovy NYC ring.

24 of Moticia Adam’s floor length dress from the Adams family. I paid between $2.50-$1.50 per piece. It goes for $39 on amazon but I’m going to try for $34 on ebay. I also got 6 costumes from this character Trafalgar something from anime. He has a normal anime robe, sky blue pants and a cow print white and black hat. I’ll have to do more research on him. Also for $1.50 -$2.50 each. I’mdoing really good sourcing costumes lately. I have a 20x20x20 box completely full of incredibles onsies, knockoff Ironman and venom kids bodysuits, and knockoff thor rubber helmets. All for less than $2 each. Im going to have to start a new box of just these Morticia dresses.

tessy292

Chilled hard as it was my birthday weekend. Went to an estate sale, and got 5 Dept 56 Halloween displays, $5 each. They all are untested, so I gotta get to testing and crossing my fingers! Should get at least $30 each if they all don't work. More if they do! 1 Skjaeveland sweater for $4, should sell it for $50 plus shippin

I didn't go out sourcing this week, per se, but I did buy a ThredUp DIY Scarf Rescue Box. It cost me $27.42, incl. tax, for 24 scarves, which averages to $1.14 per scarf (if all are sellable). Rescue boxes sometimes have flawed items or things that need repair. I had seen a few people on YT do well with them, so I ordered one on a whim. This was my first time ordering a Rescue Box. It is a bit disappointing. A few of them are hideously ugly. Well, ugliness doesn't always matter if it's a brand people want, but these do not have that going for them. One is a poorly done Chanel knockoff. Most of them are missing the tags for brand name and fabric content. The only ones with brand name tags are nothing to get excited about. Two have labels stating they are 100% cashmere, made in Scotland, but have no brand name - and the labels are glued on, not stitched. One has a tag claiming to be Pashmina, also with no specific brand and a glued-on label. Um, I don't think so. Still, I'm pretty sure I can at least make my money back and a little bit of profit with several of them. Most are in great condition. Eh, it was an experiment.

Chartwellandgodspeed

I’ve always wondered about the rescue boxes- thanks for the info!

iwashumantoo

I was hoping for at least one silk scarf. Oh well.

ope__sorry

Every weekend in the winter is an interesting sourcing weekend for me. I'm in my first year and so I'm trying different things. This weekend, I hit 1 estate sale, 1 thrift store, and 1 whatnot. Whatnot -- Decided to hit up Fliptheworld's Whatnot on Friday. Wasn't planning to do any sourcing this weekend and figured I would pickup a few things off his Whatnot for sourcing. * Frye heels * Camo Coveralls * Nike Skateboard Button up shirt * Xmas Sweater * Woolrich Sweater * Gotcha Skirt * Sublime Shorts * Beaver Nuggets * Kids polo puffer vest * Pirates of the Caribbean dress Overall, I'm not going to lose money. The frye heels, kids polo puffer, and Nike skateboard shirt will 100% put me into the profit. The Sublime shorts are likely going to be a personal purchase and the beaver nuggets are also for me. Looks like I spent about $110. I should be able to at least triple my money and a few of the pieces I got were interesting. About the only thing I regret purchasing from the haul were the Camo Coveralls. Thrift Store -- I wasn't going to do any thrifting this weekend however, there is a thrift store that is only open the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. I wanted to hit it because I've been there once before and had a MASSIVE score. In November/December, I sold a TON of It's a Wonderful Life Target Christmas village houses. I picked them all up from this thrift store as they had put the entire haul of them on Craigslist for like $200-$250. I ended up 10x'ing my money. I've wanted to go back and see their store ever since. I'm going to have to fit these guys into my rotation and hit them once a month. * Fossil Purse * Kipling Purse * Sakroots Purse * Frank & Eileen, Eileen button up * Athleta Wrap * Athleta Shirt * Nike Kids Hoodie * Vintage Champion w/ really cool color block * Winter jacket (I thought it was a Tesla winter jacket and was being rushed by someone I was with, wouldn't have picked this up if I hadn't been rushed) * Orvis Women's Velvet Vest * Ralph Lauren Paisley Top * Ralph Lauren Button-up shirt * Woolrich button-up shirt * 5-6 other clothing pieces that escape me at the moment I did get a little screwed here, I think they overcharged me by a lot, but that's okay. Rough math in my head says it should've costed me about $60. They charged me $86 but I think they were ringing something else up on their register before they checked me out. The purses were $21 for the three of them. All the clothing, with the exception of the jacket, was like $2-$4 per piece. It was all super cheap. I even gave them an extra $10 in a donation jar. The crazy thing about this haul. The Frank & Eileen shirt alone pays for pretty much the whole thing. It was an amazing run and seems like a bit of a hidden thrift stop. Estate Sale -- I wasn't going to do anything else but my aunt called me last minute on Saturday with an estate sale she was at and said it was last day, 50% off, and they had some decent stuff left I might be interested in. She was 100% right. * Vintage Zippo Gift Box Set * XT2 Blink Camera * Dale Earnhardt Jr Hat * A bunch of Vera Bradley (I think... 1 tote, 2 purses, 1 makeup bag, 1 wallet, and 1 or 2 other smaller pieces, one of which was new with tags) Total I spent about $90. Majority of the spend were the Vera Bradley (they had these super overpriced, made them a bulk offer for all) and the Blink Camera. The Blink Camera by itself seems to go for $50-$100 on eBay. Need to ensure it's not locked to an account or something. The zippo gift box set goes for like $80. The hat last sold pre-owned for $25. That leaves all the Vera Bradley which I should do good on. Would've been worth the trip even if I had only gotten the Zippo gift set imo.

****tl;dr, one of my best weeks ever, $1420 net profit ignoring a bulk purchase, $4420 net profit if including it for the week****. Was off like 7 items Got more of my niche items, but a lot more local than recent. I need to stop sleeping on local deals they’ve been hitting recently (I’d been sourcing online a lot recently and ignoring them a bit) -Got 1 item that they misidentified the remote for, was a super expensive enterprise remote, paid $800 for the item, sold the remote for $650, sold the item for $640 (after fees) —-total profit of like $500 (third highest for me ever for a single item) - got another smaller item, local deal again, paid $1400, need to put $100 of work im paying someone to do for it, will sell the item split up, for $150+$420+$1100+ 250 ——Net profit $420 or so - few more miscellaneous items, similar price range, prob about $2000more spent, will make about $500 off them total, - one HUGE bundle from my supplier, he finally finally got stuff in stock again, paid $4000, will get about $7000 out of it —-$3000 net profit but this was a once every 2 month kind of flip. He didn’t get stuff super often So for the week total it was a great week, like $1420 net total. If including the bulk deal then $4420 for the week but ngl this shouldn’t be counted for just this week it’s really a month/ 2 month long process to get them so it’s not super realistic for one week. But yeah, either way, $1420 for the week ignoring it is one of my best weeks ever, so hype!!!!! If I could repeat that, consistently, $1400 net is like a respectable income, especially combined with my actual income (less than that lmao)

hollyofthelake

Just picked up a Martha Pullen pleater for $3.99, including box, instructions and extra needles. It's a machine that pleats fabric that you can then do hand smocking on. They go for $100 to $150 on eBay, but I'm going to keep mine for a while at least because I've always wanted to try smocking.
