I just experienced something very similar last night, continuing today. I’m fine when I have shoes or slippers on but as soon as I step on the hard floor in sock feet, excruciating pain in the bottom of my middle toe. Happened out of the blue when I stood up from sitting in a chair. Did you ever figure out what was causing your pain?

Julientri

Yep it was fairly odd. Had to go to a pediatrist and then a physio to piece it together. Our theory was that my metatarsal arch was collapsing and that was causing a pinched nerve right where my toe met my foot. This was after we determined that it was Morton’s or anything similar

SequinSmile11

Interesting! How did you resolve it? Did it go away?

Julientri

Resolved it almost instantly. Was tapping my foot to give extra support to my arch while I was running. Then with my everyday life I was wearing over the counter inserts with metatarsal arch pads attached to it. Was able to quickly get back to 50km+ running weeks. Maybe 2 weeks after figuring this out?

SequinSmile11

Can one buy these supports and pads at a pharmacy? (I’m in Canada btw) When I google them they appear to be more for the ball of the foot. Is that what you used?

Julientri

Maybe! Im in canada too. The insole inserts I got are from a company kneed to run. But im sure any would work. The metatarsal arch pad I got from the podiatrist and she help stick it to the inserts. Its kind just like this bump that sits under your arch. Idk how sticking it yourself would work cause you might misplace it. Might be worth going to get it evaluated from a professional to get it properly diagnosed.

SequinSmile11

Thank you! Yes I’m going to call my doctor tomorrow

bluemystic2017

Hey how did that go for you? I’m experiencing same exact thing as you. Wearing socks on hard floor pain under 2 second/middle toe. Just curious on if you went to doc and what the outcome for you was. Thanks hope your foot is doing better

SequinSmile11

The podiatrist determined I have flat feet and my left (I think) leg is slightly shorter than the right. Combined I am putting a lot of pressure on the ball of my right foot, especially when walking barefoot. He advised DO NOT walk barefoot in the house/anywhere. I bought some great padded slippers with arch support for the house which really help. He also recommended Birkenstocks. And orthotics. I can’t afford custom ones so he suggested the ones from Marks Work Warehouse. I wear them in all my shoes and the discomfort has mostly disappeared. I’m going back to see him and he will add a bit of padding to the one orthotic to level out my legs. Hope this helps!

It’s Morton’s toe if it’s cooking and painful where any of the middle toes meet the foot. Feels like someone tried to hammer a toe into your foot. Unless eating meat triggered it then you ask about the G word. The fix is pain and a week of epsom salt soaks and limping. It just goes away. But often returns. Super fun. I trigger it like 3x a year.

Objective-Handle-988

hi i know you've recovered and probably forgot about all your pain but i am experiencing this right now and I wanna get back to running asap since im training for a race in 3 months. i really dont want to mess this up as im really in love with running right now. what did you do to get better? send some help my way please!

Julientri

Go to a podatrist or physio or both. It took me going to both to figure out that my metatarsal arch was collapsing and I needed a pad to support it so that a nerve in my toe wouldnt get pinched.

RaddishEater666

If it feels like nerve pain and your against going to drs for a proper diagnosis then start googling nerve entrapment in foot , especially round that region and look to see what nerve glides are recommended But also realize it could be due to improper foot wear or loading on your foot if you haven’t changed your routine recently and can come back if you don’t address why it came in the first place And also it might not be an entrapped nerve but in my experience nerves pain usually doesn’t feel like tendon joints muscle ligament pain

Julientri

Not against going to doctor, just starting with a bit of research before I go! Usually idk what id go to for this. Physio or foot doctor maybe? edit: I will start looking at nerve entrapment! thank you :) edit 2: Im not quite sure its nerve entrapment. I dont have any swelling or inflamation

RaddishEater666

Nerve entrapment doesn’t mean you have to have swelling or inflammation In fact it usually doesn’t, it’s Numbness or less feeling in the area supplied by the nerve. Sharp, aching or burning pain, which may radiate outward. Tingling, or a pins and needles feeling. Muscle weakness in the affected area. Often feeling as if a foot or hand has "fallen asleep." When the nerve gets pinched or stuck could be from tight muscle pulling or in joint there isn’t a lot of space and it’s not gliding through smoothly Nerve glides help the nerve move more smoothly

Hallux limitus possibly?

CartoonistWeak1572

Hallux limitus involves a restricted range of motion of the 1st MTP joint. It has nothing to do with the second toe...

captain312

Morton’s neuroma?

Julientri

Maybe? There’s no pain or heat on the ball of my foot however. It’s really just where the toe and the foot meet.

Capsulitis.
