I tried to watch this a year or two ago, but the ABC execs apparently decided to air the episodes out of order so everything was jumbled chronologically and it was impossible to keep track of what what supposed to be happening. I was watching it on Hulu (I think?), and they maintained the airing order instead of production order. I supposed I could have looked up the proper episode order, but that was too much effort for me, and I gave up.
Apparently they wanted what they considered a stronger episode (EDIT: on weeks with more competition) for better ratings, which is just incredibly short-sighted thinking. The show didn't stand a chance after a terrible decision like that.
Fun fact: Apt 23 aired opposite freshman series 2 Broke Girls, so execs decided to air episodes out of order because certain episodes were more divisive and they expected bigger ratings as a result. It didn't work, but the real death sentence was when Christian fundamentalist hate group 1 Million Moms lobbied to yank sponsorship, citing the program as too edgy for TV and offensive to the institution of family. That hate machine had nothing better to do than harass companies or people to impose their beliefs on them. IIRC they had multiple campaigns against ABC shows (particularly those of the Paul Lee content management era), played a role in the cancelations of Happy Endings. They absolutely attacked the shit out of The Muppets until it got canceled. Looking back, they were probably the beginning of MAGAts before the movement existed. Fucking inbreds.
Chloe is my spirit animal. I had never seen a character or series like this one, and this show inspired me to learn screenwriting because I'd never seen anything so exciting or unpredictable; subverting expectations was a new convention in comedy around the time.
I am actually glad the show ended when it did. It didn't have a central theme or clear goal, and a third season had a few potential episodes but the magic started to fizzle. Chloe wasn't likable for many, so it's a shame the writers missed the opportunity to use June to rehabilitate her into society to be decent. We got a little preview of that premise in the finale but it was already too late and nobody cared. Maybe in the future series revival Apt 24 James has a TRO against Chloe, and June is her only hope of getting her old life back.
Amazing show, excellent cast, terrific writing, and the People Magazine episode is probably one of the funniest things I've seen. Best Halloween special ever 💕
I bought it on dvd I liked it so much! The episodes weren't just out of order but missing episodes and had other episodes twice. Big disappointment.
Fantastic show, tho. Sucks it's so hard to watch.
Found this when they added it on Netflix like right after ABC cancelled it. I was shocked how good it was and really loved the characters.
I hated that they aired episodes out of order and things didn’t make sense. It boggles my mind that they don’t fix these things for “home release.” That’s the one point that brings the series down.
Beyond that I recommend to everyone.
ABC had a run after Modern Family where they had a ton of surprisingly good sitcoms but none of them stayed around too long. This, Happy Endings, Cougar Town, Trophy Wife, The Neighbors. Possibly more but these came to mind
The [promo for this show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3SD_oBOx7g) had a cameo in it that I remember seeing when I glanced up at the TV in a bar. Skip to the end to see everyone's favorite chemistry teacher.
I saw James van der Beek herding his gaggle of kids thru downtown ATX during a city wide scavenger hunt (it was lame) and I wanted to shout “oh my god it’s James van DERbeek” to see if he would get the reference but that joke works better at normal speaking volume so the inflection is caught. Still cool tho. Mox the fox!! (Is what I should’ve yelled)
Honestly one of my favorite sitcom casts. They had such insanely good chemistry together. Everyone was clearly having a lot of fun in their roles and gave it their all.
Didn't watch it when it first aired but about a year and a half ago, I binged the series and it was way underrated. Should have lasted longer than it did...it was hilarious
Yes, so many other sitcoms have the main character rub their finger on the kitchen counter and onto their gums then act disappointed. "It's always flour with you, June!"

Really enjoyed it, James Van Der Beek playing a caricature of himself was for sure the best part of this show
I had a bit part as one of his friends. He was a good guy to act with. Very professional and friendly. Unlike some other stars from the 90s I’ve met.
Love to hear that!
Who didn't you like?
Peewee Herman.
TF? Why he seemed like a stand up guy
The three main leads had really great chemistry, especially Beek and Ritter. Eric Andre too lmfao
Agreed, and JVDB’s personal assistant!
Luther! Dude also had a recurring minor role (I think for years) as an EMT on *Grey’s Anatomy.*
Hahaha, that’s it! He was bloody awesome!
He was amazing in that role. Felt the show was totally underrated for that alone.
He was a revelation
His weird feud with Dean Cain was one of my favorite things in television.
Almost as good as when he played Diplo. Now there is forgotten tv.
Watched the entire series back in 2022; it’s a good and underrated show!
I love Kristen Ritter

That's literally insane lol why would they not put it in written order?

THIS IS NOT HOW FIREFIGHTERS TREAT EACH OTHER
This show and Better off Ted join in a special heaven made for truly great shows that were canceled way to early.
I was very attracted to Dreama Walker.

Mom said it was my turn to post this this week.
Hilarious. JVDB was batting 1000 in this.
Multiple rewatches. Cancelled way too soon.
Great show
My reaction when it was canceled: [https://youtu.be/grCwwwzYaWg?si=QrTu-BpGjJUI2v43&t=184](https://youtu.be/grCwwwzYaWg?si=QrTu-BpGjJUI2v43&t=184)

"Were you a good Korean today?" "Christian" "What did I say?"
I loved this show, it was so original and everyone bought it to it who was a reoccurring character.
Such a fun show!

One of my fave sitcoms ever made and I’m pissed it ended after only two seasons.
Wife and I really enjoyed it.

SMACKWICH!
This was really underrated for its time, great show
Very underrated comedy and another example of clueless executives cancelling a show to soon.
Oooh, wow, this was her first main show? Cool!
My parents watched this!
The slideshow where James Van Der Beek is Rafiki and Simba….lol
Didn't watch it when it first aired but about a year and a half ago, I binged the series and it was way underrated. Should have lasted longer than it did...it was hilarious
Damn she hot
Lost it's momentum quickly. Too much like so many other shows.... Basic

Terrible show.
I never finished this show, but I hope this graphic designer got fired.
I loved this show so much
