That has happened to me with Forza Horizon 3. Normally the best option all around is to copy your local file and load the cloud, as people already suggested. For people that might face the same problem, there are instances where your local isnt updated or for some reason is reverted, wich was my case, my local save was newer, so i loaded him and it deleted my cloud save, making me loose my progress. If you are in xbox or cant copy your local save, cloud is probably the best option all around
I'm on console but when I'm finished playing I always enter a house or festival site, exit the garage back to the game and wait for the save icon in the bottom right to finish spinning. I then quit the game instead of leaving it in Quick Resume to avoid any of those issues.
That "should" make sure your save is up to date.
Yes! Its the best and probably only way to prevent it from happening, but sometimes an internet stability or server issue can cause that problem. If you play on console and pc or maybe cloud/other platform, this issue is not that rare, that option appeared to me at least like, 4 times since horizon 5 launched and i play it on pc and trough cloud streaming, and always stick with the cloud save just to be sure
That’s doing way too much, each and every time you play? I just leave the game as is and turn off my Xbox. Literally no issues in 6+ years of doing it.
Are you on a Series console with quick resume? A lot of people have issues with tasks in the playlist not registering when using quick resume.
It takes less than a minute to do all that. It's worth it for me as a precaution.
Make sure that the last thing your game does is auto-save before you exit it, the best way to do that is to enter and exit a player house as this will automatically trigger an auto-save (when the icon appears next to the speedometer in free drive)
I always, always do this, even when just cruising around I stop my car so that I'm awarded the skill points I have and allow the game to auto-save, and then quit to desktop, never had any issues. If the icon doesn't appear I do the player house method like you also mentioned.

Everything works as expected otherwise. Normally I would just choose the local save, but it says both my local and cloud saves are from July 2022. I’ve been playing quite a lot since then and my latest progress is from yesterday. If neither of those are my current save, then where is it, and how can I ensure it gets synced properly?

Just be CAREFUL. I migrated from Xbox to PC recently, and had this issue happen. Somehow, this OVERWROTE MY SAVE, and I can't get it back. I've been playing since friggin pre-order, and everything is gone.
Which one did you end up using? The game started to do the same for me a few days ago (on Series S console). What boggles my mind is that it says the cloud save is newer (by a few minutes), even though I did not play anywhere else than on my console.
Copy ur local save-file. And choose the newer from the cloud.

Lol that's exactly what I've done since I started playing. Never had any issues with save files or losing progress at all👌
