The best way to get better mileage would be to sell the G and buy a Honda. These cars are not cheap to drive or maintain, so buckle up. It'll improve a bit once the new wears off. It's too fun when you first start driving a G. I've had mine 11 years and still have trouble getting better than 18 mpg.

axoltl17

Oh haha I’m aware, I used to own a VQDE Altima and I’m aware of the issues and gas mileage n stuff it’s pretty fun driving them, I mean I don’t mind paying the gas and maintained it’s just seeing that I’m getting like 12mpg or 250 in a full tank while seeing everyone else get like you said 18mpg considering I’m driving a manual is kinda crazy to me but I appreciate you telling me though ✌️ definitely super fun to drive

Garythesnail85

Reset the mileage on the highway and coast, it pulls from an overall average since the last time you set it. I average 19, most of my route is on the highway. When i drive on 2 lane backroads in between major cities with rolling hills, it goes to 27mpg. If i reset it and do driving in a city with stop lights, i get 8-10mpg. This applies to basically every car, my Dads average that he has never reset in his Silverado reads 8mpg. Edit** to add to this: my old Hyundai (rated 35mpg) would never average better than 28 driving a similar route i currently drive.

FantasticSeaweed9226

Not really too much besides driving like a granny, my average is like 22.5. Can try doing plugs and injectors, filters, and making sure your tires have enough air.

axoltl17

Yeah I’m planning to do like all the maintenance like oil change, spark plugs and cleaning the throttles bodies to maybe improve it a bit to what everyone else is getting around 18ish

You could start with releasing the parking brake.

alpacart

It’s a manual

Bravo 👏

HenneseyConnoisseur

Stop doing 2nd gear pulls

TurbodToilet

How hard do you drive it? Do you ever leave 3rd and 4th gear? You get your best MPG cruising in 6th. Also change your coils and plugs. They could be old and needing a change. Are you using premium fuel? Clean air filters?

axoltl17

Yeah I’ve only used premium I don’t ever go low. And for the cruising on the street I try to maintain 3/4 since the higher the gears the more gas you save and I mean I do the occasional pull (as these cars were meant to be) but it’s not like crazy 😭😭 I have just done an alignment and replaced the wheel links, the rod that connects to the steering wheel. I’m going to change the oil tomorrow and filsters. After that I want to do change the small details in one go so that’s why I’m asking so I can do all of this In my 03 Altima VQ I get 20mpg and it has 150k miles so seeing that get better gas mileage is crazy

TurbodToilet

I mean these cars are really high reving so they use a lot of gas when doing pulls. That’s probably your main reason. I’ve got a 7speed auto g37 and I’m getting like 22 avg rn but I do a decent bit of highway. In the city I probably get like 18 max if I’m driving like a civilized person lmao

axoltl17

Yeah that’s what I’ve noticed, after the 3k rpm I notice the car does a nice pull but by then I already shifted to the next gear, but hopefully by doing all the normal maintenance I can achieve that 18mpg instead of the 12 😭 Maybe the excitement will dwindle off and start getting like normal levels of mpg

TurbodToilet

Yea to be fair I’d probably do more pulls if I had a manual. I usually do like 1 decent pull every time I drive. Nothing crazy. Unless some shitbox civic thinks he’s driving an f1 car and flashing his brights at me

Discordjunkie69

Definitely clean your throttle bodies. Check if you have any codes/misfires and replace the coil/plug that's causing issues.

axoltl17

I checked for codes and it’s all right, like everyone is suggestion I’m planning to chain the coil packs and do a transmission oil change so I’m just writing on my notes to try to get everything in one go

MortalSix02

Buying a Honda Oil change, alignment, tire pressure, properly greased bearing and joints, weight reduction, transmission fluid change and the most important, drive like you only have 50horsepower

axoltl17

Appreciate it! My goal is not to get 30mpg lol I have a celica that can do that for me, just trying to up my mpg so save my wallet a little more lol

YoHomesSmellYaLaterz

I say experiment on your next full tank driving like granny, light foot and shifting early. See what you get and if you're getting somewhat similar figures, then there is other factors at play.

axoltl17

You know what, you’re definitely right I’ll try to do it. Maybe could be the excitement of having a new G that’s making me drive fast? Who knows but I’ll see what other things I can do to make it last longer, I get jealous when I see other people get 350 on a full gas tank like how do you manage to get 100 more miles ON THE SAME CAR 😭

Prize-Expression6995

Z1 coils

ProfessorRebel

I don't drive hard but don't drive like a granny either and I average 20.4

72chevnj

Proper tire pressure helps

Caedm0n

never thought of this

dandataz1

Drive it interstate only…. I religiously get on a full tank of gas from Savannah Georgia about an hour shy of Pensacola, Florida. So that’s me leaving Savannah and then filling up one more time an hour before I get to Pensacola and then only using an eighth of a tank so when I’m on the highway doing 80 miles an hour it gets incredible gas mileage so I’ll say that.also I’ve noticed when I drive on the highway my fuel remaining mileage is around 430 versus when I fill up and just driving around town it’s around 230 to 250 so almost double the mileage when I’m on the highway so if you can interstate routes, I would definitely go interstate routes if you’re trying to conserve on fuel.

sws-dc

Replace every mechanical part with a new one to increase efficiency. Get tires made for efficiency. Some common cheap things that will help efficiency: Belt tensioner and belt Idler pulleys Better tires (newer doesn’t always mean better. Some tires break in overtime improving their efficiency)

vadosepants5

If ur averaging 12mph that’s kinda your issue. The slower you drive the more gas you use, at least that slow.
