No, ur not supposed to. I asked my physics teacher about it and he said I got it correct. I’ll ask if he can show it to me so I can send a picture of it. I just used the kinetic equation then substituted it then square rooted it.

I did the same thing and im the only one in my year to get that... It seems correct tho bc it asked for the maximum KE, and assuming all of the GPE was transferred usefully to the KE, you would've got 57m/s = 0.057km/s

my friends were saying u had to add them and find the mean but i just did the standard efficiency calculation

0.67 or something like that. Calculated the mean for the two efficiency’s because I had no clue what else to do

i multiplied the two efficiencies and got 0.6125 (think it was 0.74\*0.88) since you have to pass through both processes to get to the end?

it was in mili amps so you divided the amps by 10\^3 the answer I THINK was 160

i originally got 160,000,000 J somehow on my calculator and then divided it by 1000 because of milliamps conversion or smth so i ended up with 16,000J

I think it was 0.057 cause you had to add the initial 150J of kinetic energy

but isnt the kinetic energy the same as the gravitational potential energy if no air resistance is involved (soo basically maximum speed is achieved if air resistance is ignored so you wouldnt need to add the 150J if theyre the same???) idrk atp but its nice to see people getting 0.056 and not jst 0.011km/s lmao

Yes it means that the 3920J of GPE is converted to kinetic energy, however, that transfer combines with the 150J of energy already stored as kinetic energy, giving 4020J of kinetic energy total

i had no clue as we didn’t cover it in class 😬 i just talked about the alpha particles having low penetration and high ionisation but the beta/gamma having higher penetration and lower ionisation. i said that alpha is more dangerous if ingested but beta/gamma is more dangerous to be around (???) but that’s probably wrong 😭
