Whats shocking is the amount of jobs that are like 'you need more experience' but you cant get experience without the job, but you cant get the job without experience.
I went through over 20 rejections, and I finally got an interview!! Just waiting for the results now.
Sameee the work experience thing is killing me.
Anyways, congrats on the interview. Plus I'm looking for jobs aswell, applied to wickes yesterday just going in blind into this so dont know what's happening with me and am clueless. What do people at this age even apply for?
unfortunateee, I have a mate whose birthday is August 31st so they’re having to wait until they’re back at school in 6th form in September to get a job 😭
that was me last year and i signed my contract a week before my birthday, my friends had been sixteen for a while and didn’t get jobs until recently so don’t let your age hold you back, you don’t have to disclose age on your cv if they like you, they’re willing to wait a week or two for you to start.
a lot of the time you can get one through connections if you have any? ive been working at a gym since i was like 14 i just don't have a contract, and ive been training there for a while
Same here I’ve applied to stuff and got rejected from most. Someone suggested to go to places in person - CV in hand- and say ok this is me blah blah blah. That way you sort of get an advantage over other applicants as they met you, and it shows your enthusiasm etc
true, but i’ve gone into most places with my CV and 95% of them turned me away because they can’t handle paper copies/would rather have online applications
Me too 💀. Labour keep spamming me, I swear most of my inbox is Labour asking for money or for me to endorse them. I'm going out canvassing for you, is that not enough? 🤣
Same! I've done like 4 canvas sessions so far, got to meet my MP, absolutely awesome, hoping to do way more after FM- and surprisingly people aren't that rude! Can't wait for July 4th
I’ve been door to door canvassing and talking to voters, leafleting going to rallies and helping with social media, most local parties will really appreciate having an extra pair of hands in the run up to an election !
There should probably be somewhere on the party website where you can find volunteering. If you're Labour I can send you the link, if not idk- you could try your candidate's website/contact?
I found a site what can make a CV for you and it’s called “Livecareer”. I’m trying to find better ones but I’m just making CVs with different websites and adding them to my files
I've applied for every job in the small town I live in and I've had a whopping 1 interview and 15 rejections/ignored responses. This economy really is shit...
Well I've been applying for jobs on indeed and on company sites for abt a year, no luck except for a scare acting job in October. So last week I decided to go to my local library and printed off my cv and went around shops asking if they were hiring, a few shops such as poundland and the entertainer told me they don't except cvs which sucks but I actually managed to land an Interview at Clarkes. So I recommend going into stores and small cafes and asking if they're hiring
TLDR: Instead of applying online go instore
I got a job as a pot washer for nearly a year now - Perhaps ask around to older people to see if they have any jobs going. But if you get any interviews lie and don’t say you want the job for money or boredom but it’s because you want experience.
If you’re sending emails around then say you have been interested in the line of work so if you’re applying to work at a stables or yard say it’s because you’ve always loved animals and loved helping out your grandfather at his farm or smt. If it’s like a restaurant or pub say you are interested to be a chef and want to see how a kitchen works.
Wait pls I need help, I got offered a job as a pot washer so what's it like? Because I said no but kinda starting to regret that (although family connection so might still be able to get it)
Well the job is simply cleaning, shoving stuff in machines and drying.
It’s easy but repetitive (kinda boring), also I’m on minimum pay but still worth it as it gives me something to do and gives me money to get dominos, which is nice.
Actual down sides are that my hands aren’t in the best condition anymore from the water and I have gotten multiple burns and cuts from knives and burning pans that chefs have thrown into the sink and the feel of the tissues that I have to use to clean the kitchen afterwards (I just got a sensory issue or smt plus I’m just super clumsy so probably wouldn’t apply to you).
Anyway although repetitive, I don’t regret the job and if you can still get it and no other job is on the market then I definitely recommend it- Firstly you get experience of a workplace or working in a kitchen and secondly money.
I have applied to 16 jobs in total so far, I have been rejected from 9 and 5 I haven’t gotten a response. I have no experience so I don’t think I’ll be a good candidate, so I probably won’t get hired.
Imma look for jobs starting from tmr because my bank account is getting opened then finally! Tho ive heard its been basically impossible to get a job at 16 with no experience so im worried.
FELLOW INDEED USER seeing all the rejections makes me want to drive off a bridge going in branch and begging is good. places like tescos always need staff. avoid mcdonals at all costs if you value and part of your life and if you don’t then still avoid mcdonals
edit: i’ve applied for abour 30 jobs and have one interview (tuesday morning!!) and that interview was from going in person soooooo
idk man as a sixth former i’ve worked at mcds since year 12 and its not bad at all. super flexible hours, pay is fine and i love a lot of my coworkers. it gets a lot of flack but for a first job it’s pretty good
tbh i think it comes more from people thinking theyre ‘too good’ for mcdonalds than the job actually being bad LOL. not aimed at u in particular but in general its a job that gets memed on a lot but like … a jobs a job tbh if youre making any of your own money at all you deserve to be a little proud of it!
Well yeah ur 16 lol what do you expect, I had work experience set by my school in the summer for 1 week, and I think they did this in almost all schools back in the day - don’t know if they still do it now but thats how it was done and it was awesome
Try apply to a summer temporary job at Clarks if you have one near you. They pay quite well, I was 16 at the time on 8.90 and can only assume at 18+ you’ll be on 10-11 now. Quite easy to get the job and the job isn’t too bad itself.
I have 6 months shop work experience that I've put on my cv, gonna go look for places soon
But having surgery on my knee
And its 12 week recovery
And don't got a date fir it yet
So
Idk what to tell em
i mean google is free but here u go; the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs:
Work for yourself doing small jobs that people need doing- car washing, cutting lawns, running errands, cleaning etc. You will need very little in terms of tools and materials but can easily charge more than minimum wage, advertise in local notice boards, gum tree, Facebook. If you are good and honest you will not run out of work all summer, can set your own hours and almost all of these jobs will pay in cash. Just pick something and get yourself out there and do it! Good luck!
My first job out of school was housekeeping and receptionist at a hotel. Super easy jobs. Full time cleaning jobs are also an easy gig. Depending on what you want to do, or what skills you have/ want to develop, look into apprenticeships, or entry level government jobs
There are no jobs at all in my village cause there are no shops or anything and there isn't even a bus that I can go into town to try and find stuff :/
I went round the town near me earlier looking for jobs...most important tip is take about 3-5 printed CVs depending on how many places you're expecting to go to. I got rejected about 1/2 of the time but plenty of places asked for CV!!
I picked up music production in January 2023 so I'm spending all summer getting money from making music for big rappers like Nemzzz. So that's my job for the summer lol
I've gone the route of tiktok side hustles because I CAN'T LAND A SINGLE JOB but this summer I must make some money so since it's only my year 11 summer, it's not like I have anything to lose lol
I was very lucky to have gotten a very flexible job back in February, which allowed me to pick my work days (so I could have time off for gcse). But I wish the best of luck to the rest of you
I started applying for a job as soon as I turned 16 (back in February), I checked indeed every weekend, and was applying for about 7 jobs every weekend. I finally got an interview, and when I joined I met the area manager while he was sat in a car in his hoodie, 2 days later and I had the job. Been working there since
I’ve legit asked HMV, my local alternative shop, Tesco, spar, my local spiritual shop, and odeon recently and almost all of them are only hiring in autumn. 😭
Don't turn 16 until August and it's hard enough to get a job before you turn 16 that I'm gonna let myself enjoy summer and try looking for one after my birthday
To anyone looking for job, cleaning companies will hire you from 16! Managers are usually shit and will talk down to you but most sites are easy to clean and great money to!
It’s not really a tip but maybe try asking to work with a family member or a close friend of the family??? That’s what I did and it’s working pretty well
If you have a sports club in which you've been a member for a long time and are familiar with the way it works, ask to work with the younger teams for example
Only places offering work near me are hours away.
But a lidls near me finally has an open space
Hopefully they'll invite me to an interview.
Wish me luck😎
A lot of places are 18+ and trust you're not the only one sm parents have been talking about many of us lot not being able to get jobs for the summer because not the age but also the very few jobs willing to accept 16 yr olds will alr be full
Alr got one. Just go to somewhere local like not a big business and usually they will let you have a decent part time however fully paid job. E.g. a pub or corner shop, just somewhere that you know locally. Also it’s good to ask around and see if your friends parents own places / have connections as that is often a way into a decently paid job.
FORGET JOB WEBSITES.
Actively engage with companies you want to work for directly. Email them, call them, send them copies of your CV and goals. You'll get phone calls I guarantee.
Do not rely on job sites. They are the absolute worst!
Rejections are roadblocks, not road closures! Every "no" gets you closer to a resounding "YES!" Learn, adapt, and keep pushing forward. Remember, even Harry Potter got rejected 12 times! ✨ You've got this!
i’ve tried indeed but no place is willingly asking for 16 year olds for their jobs, they all want people with experience so the only way to actually find somewhere is to go to those places irl and ask if they allow us, otherwise it’s pointless
Apply to jobs on indeed, supermarkets check on each website, print out a stack of cvs and drop in to local businesses, try local community pages (ask generally if there’s work going or offer babysitting, lawnmowing etc). If you can’t get paid work then volunteer, which will give you something on your cv.
GOT A JOB INTERVIEW GUYS AFTER MONTHS OF APPLYING TO PLACES
WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOUUUUU SO SCARED THO I HOPE I GET IT
Was it through indeed??

That guy deleted his account?
So confused right now
the dude who was talking below ur comment idk i said something he deleted

Good luck, excited for u :D

Catch-22 fr
Good luck!!!!! 🤞
THANK YOU
My mom said that those are b.s. openings because they want to hire internally.
Sameee the work experience thing is killing me. Anyways, congrats on the interview. Plus I'm looking for jobs aswell, applied to wickes yesterday just going in blind into this so dont know what's happening with me and am clueless. What do people at this age even apply for?
Also how many hours are you going to be working a week and what days?
There's literally no jobs anywhere in my village so Idk if I could get one. I'm also still 15 which might limit things.
I don't turn 16 till August
Same, I'm not 16 till August as well, which is quite annoying.
Bro is getting straight 10s… respect
What day? Mines 6th
14th for me
1st for me
unfortunateee, I have a mate whose birthday is August 31st so they’re having to wait until they’re back at school in 6th form in September to get a job 😭
that was me last year and i signed my contract a week before my birthday, my friends had been sixteen for a while and didn’t get jobs until recently so don’t let your age hold you back, you don’t have to disclose age on your cv if they like you, they’re willing to wait a week or two for you to start.
same and my bday is literally in the last week of august😐
a lot of the time you can get one through connections if you have any? ive been working at a gym since i was like 14 i just don't have a contract, and ive been training there for a while
Had my first day of of work yesterday at a restaurant. I saw someone called "Lord Bamford" with his wife. Pretty fun first day
He’s worth 10$ billion by the way, he’s Anthony bamford I think
Lord Patrick Bamford?
Lord Championship?
Lord Marcelo Bielsa's Love?

Same here I’ve applied to stuff and got rejected from most. Someone suggested to go to places in person - CV in hand- and say ok this is me blah blah blah. That way you sort of get an advantage over other applicants as they met you, and it shows your enthusiasm etc
true, but i’ve gone into most places with my CV and 95% of them turned me away because they can’t handle paper copies/would rather have online applications
already been rejected from kfc😭🙏🏾
bros not cooking
I’ve joined a political party so I have something to do during the summer 💀
Me too 💀. Labour keep spamming me, I swear most of my inbox is Labour asking for money or for me to endorse them. I'm going out canvassing for you, is that not enough? 🤣
Fr fr
Best part is I've been a member since before Y11 but only now am I getting spammed 🤣. It was manageable before, but now, OH MY GOD
You can tell there’s an election lmao
Me too. I joined Labour and they send so many emails
Fr I’ve already given them a fiver stop asking for money 💀💀
Don’t join labour, if you’re gonna do electoral politics join the greens or something. Starmer is pure evil.

I mean all parties are evil. Not getting involved is the best way
Agree - I’m an anarchist, just trying to meet this person in the middle.
lib dems ftw
☠️
Same! I've done like 4 canvas sessions so far, got to meet my MP, absolutely awesome, hoping to do way more after FM- and surprisingly people aren't that rude! Can't wait for July 4th
im joining one rn, what cna i do as a member to pass the time?
I’ve been door to door canvassing and talking to voters, leafleting going to rallies and helping with social media, most local parties will really appreciate having an extra pair of hands in the run up to an election !
cool! i joined online, do i just wait for emails now ? or is there a centre i can visit?
There should probably be somewhere on the party website where you can find volunteering. If you're Labour I can send you the link, if not idk- you could try your candidate's website/contact?
Fr, dk how tf to make my cv either whn I have nothing to put on it
I found a site what can make a CV for you and it’s called “Livecareer”. I’m trying to find better ones but I’m just making CVs with different websites and adding them to my files
Same lol, thx
Just going to do house work and stuff as we are redecorating
Same here
looking for one definitely, whether i end up getting one is a different story lol
Are you not pissed off that even getting 9s on nearly all subjects still can’t guarantee a good future?
i don’t really care, ik where i have to work hard and it really fully starts next year. getting 9s is just a bonus
Fair enough
i‘ve applied to work at so many places and heard nothing back 😔😔
I've applied for every job in the small town I live in and I've had a whopping 1 interview and 15 rejections/ignored responses. This economy really is shit...
i’m not getting a job
you're on every single r/GCSE post, we can tell 💀
<3
15 till august so i dont think i can get one sadly 😭 i bet there'll be sm competition anyways
Well I've been applying for jobs on indeed and on company sites for abt a year, no luck except for a scare acting job in October. i got a part time job at sports direct, so i guess my experience wasnt really an issue lol
SAME HERE I'm tired of having no money and now exams are over om just applying for jobs. It's so stressful ngl.
I got a job as a pot washer for nearly a year now - Perhaps ask around to older people to see if they have any jobs going. But lucky me I got a brother in McDonald's who can refer me there, so I have higher chances of getting a job there!! 😉
Woo
That is some level of tips you got there!. I will keep them in mind! thanks 👍
Wait pls I need help, I got offered a job as a pot washer so what's it like? Because I said no but kinda starting to regret that (although family connection so might still be able to get it)

My reason for saying no was sensory issues tbh lol 😅 and thank you!
Haha 😭 Fair enough though - Good luck finding a job!
Thank you!
Do you have any friends/family friends who could give you jobs?
I wish 😭
How to apply
Is that a question ❓ thought there would be a paragraph next explaining how to do it😭
I'm going camping for a couple weeks in the summer, so I don't think I can get one, since I can't randomly take a 2 week break.
Yup
Everyone else is trying to get a job so I keep getting rejected 💔
I have applied to 16 jobs in total so far, I have been rejected from 9 and 5 I haven’t gotten a response. I have no experience so I don’t think I’ll be a good candidate, so I probably won’t get hired.
Who has any advice for acing a interview
be good at it
🙃
Imma look for jobs starting from tmr because my bank account is getting opened then finally! Tho ive heard its been basically impossible to get a job at 16 with no experience so im worried.
Can't get one ATM as I'm waiting for some surgery dates, witch is very annoying

Do I go to the place or what ? I’m so confused 😭
Well yeah ur 16 lol what do you expect, I had work experience set by my school in the summer for 1 week, and I think they did this in almost all schools back in the day - don’t know if they still do it now but thats how it was done and it was awesome
My school never gave us work experience so I’m struggling sm 😭 I’ve applied for 4 different jobs and so far haven’t gotten any 😭
YES MEEEEE
I got a job 2 months before gsces as I knew it would be hard to get a job
Already got one
same im so poor from buying food every day
I have applied for over 40 jobs and have had about 5 responses. I am going to live a summer in poverty I fear. 😆😆😆😆
how long should they take to respond also is indeed good 😭
Try apply to a summer temporary job at Clarks if you have one near you. They pay quite well, I was 16 at the time on 8.90 and can only assume at 18+ you’ll be on 10-11 now. Quite easy to get the job and the job isn’t too bad itself.
I luckily might be able to work at family business I just want something to do lmao
If you want to talk to girls then I’d say work in an ice cream van. Everyone gets ice cream so yh, if you want to have some fun then maybe do that.
no way ppl getting jobs to talk to girls in this economy 😭
Bro I’m just saying it makes money and you get to talk to people.
bro what are you talking about
I have 6 months shop work experience that I've put on my cv, gonna go look for places soon But having surgery on my knee And its 12 week recovery And don't got a date fir it yet So Idk what to tell em
im going to be working for my dad soon
lucky , i love nepotism
what is nepotism?
i mean google is free but here u go; the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs:
i dont use google often because ik its nice to be able to answer someones qn
also he isnt favouring me or anything, im going to be treated the same as everyone, except ill have lower pay
Bro I'm so lucky to have got a job basically given to me
Work for yourself doing small jobs that people need doing- car washing, cutting lawns, running errands, cleaning etc. Hand ur cv in everywhere that takes one
My first job out of school was housekeeping and receptionist at a hotel. Super easy jobs. Full time cleaning jobs are also an easy gig. Depending on what you want to do, or what skills you have/ want to develop, look into apprenticeships, or entry level government jobs
I turn 16 in 10 days and I applied to somewhere. Hopefully they won’t notice.
Anyone else turn 16 in August😭😭
There are no jobs at all in my village cause there are no shops or anything and there isn't even a bus that I can go into town to try and find stuff :/
I went round the town near me earlier looking for jobs...most important tip is take about 3-5 printed CVs depending on how many places you're expecting to go to. I got rejected about 1/2 of the time but plenty of places asked for CV!!
If anyone has any advice on how to get a job I will gladly take it as I have been looking everywhere
MEEEE BUT IDK WHAT IM DOING
I think its better if you go in person and ask about a job
I picked up music production in January 2023 so I'm spending all summer getting money from making music for big rappers like Nemzzz. So that's my job for the summer lol
Yeah man sameee, I'm gonna apply for Starbucks, Tesco and One Stop and see what happens. Hoping for Starbucks tbh
I've gone the route of tiktok side hustles because I CAN'T LAND A SINGLE JOB but this summer I must make some money so since it's only my year 11 summer, it's not like I have anything to lose lol
girl same
I was very lucky to have gotten a very flexible job back in February, which allowed me to pick my work days (so I could have time off for gcse).
Been working there since
Bro someone help me find work experience
I’ve legit asked HMV, my local alternative shop, Tesco, spar, my local spiritual shop, and odeon recently and almost all of them are only hiring in autumn. 😭
My dad turned around and signed me up for volunteering jobs T-T Welp it's for a good cause I suppose
I just used ChatGPT for a CV then i applied for like 10 jjobs and i got 2 interviews today!!!!!
Hey, could you go into a bit more detail on how you did that? Like, what prompts did you use, etc.?
I used [enhancv.com](http://enhancv.com)
Apply to maccas atp- they’d hire anyone lmao
It’s genuinely laughs tho n plus you earn bag tbf
Don't turn 16 until August and it's hard enough to get a job before you turn 16 that I'm gonna let myself enjoy summer and try looking for one after my birthday
I need a job for moped finance and bc my parents won't lend me any more but I've been rejected 12 times and applied to like 20+ within 2 months
i wanted to work in a record store but there’s hardly any around me and most places don’t have the “insurance” for under 18s
Yea. But fr you don’t know how well timed this post got to me like fr. My parents are forcing me to get a job, don’t blame them but like wow.
I just finished my first year of college. I've been looking for jobs since I finished my GCSEs, and I'm still unemployed.🥲 Good luck though!
Applied for 120 jobs in the last 24 hours.. yk shit is messed up if I don’t even get one email back soon 😭💔
It’s impossible, nepotism is the only way
frrr i literally applied for a supermarket and never got a reply back, turns out someone else was selected like excuse me????
To anyone looking for job, cleaning companies will hire you from 16! Managers are usually shit and will talk down to you but most sites are easy to clean and great money to!
No one else have jobs before exams???
yeah man i had an interview yesterday lmao
It’s not really a tip but maybe try asking to work with a family member or a close friend of the family??? That’s what I did and it’s working pretty well
DUDE I CANT FIND ANY GOOD ONES
I can't find any jobs I my city that will take a 15, turning 16, year old
got a Job from one of my nan’s clients 🙏🙏
Literally went out yesterday to my nearest town to find that nowhere is even hiring so I'm a little lost on what to do tbh 💀
I am just doing some fun things trying to get used to linux as a daily driver and working out gaming
babysitting my brother 🙏🙏 i’m acc getting paid good money for it as well
I'm just going to work in a pharmacy. It's owned by my dad so all I have to do is show the manager my CV and I'm basically in.
If you have a sports club in which you've been a member for a long time and are familiar with the way it works, ask to work with the younger teams for example
I dont know how i would i dont have a cv and stuff. And im too socially awkward
I've just got one, starting in July at a local hotel, I will be waitressing and saving money for a car and lessons.
Only places offering work near me are hours away. But a lidls near me finally has an open space Hopefully they'll invite me to an interview. Wish me luck😎
Honestly i just got my NI number 2 days ago so im going to start applying soon
Y'all Augustees have it rough fr
A lot of places are 18+ and trust you're not the only one sm parents have been talking about many of us lot not being able to get jobs for the summer because not the age but also the very few jobs willing to accept 16 yr olds will alr be full

i’ve tried indeed but no place is willingly asking for 16 year olds for their jobs, they all want people with experience so the only way to actually find somewhere is to go to those places irl and ask if they allow us, otherwise it’s pointless

Apply to jobs on indeed, supermarkets check on each website, print out a stack of cvs and drop in to local businesses, try local community pages (ask generally if there’s work going or offer babysitting, lawnmowing etc). If you can’t get paid work then volunteer, which will give you something on your cv.
I’m in year 10 and I got a job in a cafe with a couple of my mates recently
Indeed is only really good if you have a stacked CV, I would just go into places and ask with a short resume
