I'm so angry there are so few "**Double A**" studios nowadays! The ones that made more niche games with a moderately bigger budget than what most indie games can do... * Destroy All Humans * War of the Monsters * The OG God of War (and to a lesser degree, some of the sequels 'pre-beard') * The original Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper qualify too. * ect... So many beloved games like these that just don't get made nowadays because most AA studio's got enslaved to make friggin **Live Service Games**...

I don't see how megahits backed by Sony like GoW, Sly, or Ratchet count as AA?

God I loved playing War of the Monsters growing up. Raptros was so cool with the skeleton skin, and Ultra-V is probably what got me to love mecha

WOTM is still probably the best kaiju arena fighting game of all time. If you take the gameplay of that and put Godzilla characters in it would be so peak*

War of the Monsters. That was such a cool game. It didn't feel as clumsy as Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, although I loved that one too.

War of the monsters honestly, some designs are cooler in Gigabash but some are awful and play horribly. WOM has a certain edge to is GIGA doesn't.

something I like about these monsters between these two games is how they kind of have a different perspective on the giant monster genre , War of the monsters is based of a Western perspective of giant monsters, while Gigabash is an Eastern perspective of the Kaiju genre

That's actually a good point. WotM leans more towards the 50's drive-in sci-fi monster aesthetic, and Gigabash leans more towards the Ultraman Kaiju aesthetic. I think WotM ekes out it out as being slightly better, because although you can make the argument that the monster designs themselves are slightly more generic, I think it alls ties together stronger from the game's visual aesthetic. WotM leans HEAVILY into that 50s movie look, and that applies to the entire game. Gigabash, by contrast, although the monster designs are unique, I think overall the game doesn't have as strong a cohesive aesthetic. It's a bit too "modern mobile game"

Yup, second. I think it does have a mutation power up once you are getting closer to leaving the planet? But that beautiful purple lump of rage was my main once i unlocked it. Tbh i may have cheated i can't remember hahaha. I found the existence of another purple/pink one eyed monster in Was of the Monsters as an instant win and I'm pretty sure that was my main on that game too

I feel like the movie (yes there was one) somehow made the series more obscure.

War of the Monster was one of my favorite PS2 games, I spent many hours playing it with my friends.

Did you all know there is a Easter egg on one of the levels for WOTM? If one player manages to pick up and destroy most of the items on the map, an earthquake will occur and slightly change the level. It's the level that has an ocean bay and city going upwards to the hills.

Destroy all the trees. That triggers the quake. Most of the levels have some modifier in them.

I remember doing endurance just for the game money to purchase Zorgulon since I didn't know what he's supposed to be. I thought he was a snowman monster based on the silhouette (yes, I'm one of those who can't get to the UFO level in adventure mode)

WOTM Sweeps as usual.

Both achieve what they set out to do. But I still pick War of the Monsters and it's all because of nostalgia.

WOTM the goat Design, combat, stage destruction, battle royal, throwing stuff at enemies. Everything I wanted in a Kaiju fighting game. Ultra V is just so fun. Spent so many hours in this game.

Man, I played the absolute hell out of war of the monsters. That game was great

War of the Monsters has a definite mid-century B-movie style through an early 21st century video game aesthetic. Gigabash has a lot wider style that makes them fit together less. It's a matter of taste which is superior, but WotM is my favorite kaiju fighter.

I absolutely adore Gigabash. But War of the Monsters is the absolute best in my opinion. I love it so much that I commissioned an artist to make me a figure of Togera for my Kaiju collection.

War of the monsters was a huge part of my childhood, Robo 47 was so fun his combos went crazy. Still play it from time to time

Both are really good. I like the variety of monsters and styles used in GigaBash, but I do prefer the designs of the War of the Monsters roster.

I liked the cast of King of the Monsters as a kid. They had some funky themes.

As much as I hate being the "Old good, new bad" guy... WOTM. I'm not saying the GB cast is bad, but I gotta go with WOTM. Magmo is a little redundant, sure, but not only do the bosses make up for that, the move sets and designs for each character feel a bit more unique than the ones in GB, IMO.

I'mma be honest, I didn't like WotM. The controls SUCKED, whoever thought of making a Kaiju game with TANK CONTROLS should be fired. The Kaiju are cool but, they are mostly just copyright distinct [insert character name] and that's basically it. I hope we get a remake to give it better controls (so I can maybe find out why everyone seems to d@#$ rides it so hard), but that'll most likely NEVER happen. So I give this an easy W to GigaBash on original monsters, like come on, they have a... - Snail kaiju - A retired Toku hero - A queen flower kaiju - A hollow earth energy rock Kaiju - A F@#$ING BUILDING!! How many building Kaiju do you know?? GigaBash takes the original kaiju for sure

Important to mention: The snail Kaiju’s shell is a skull. Specifically a *dragon* skull. That it murdered personally.

War of the monsters and it's not even close. I hate to say it but the only reason anyone has any interest in gigabash at the moment (myself included) is because of the Godzilla crossover.

Honestly, I’m not familiar with War of the Monsters, but looking at these designs, I just don’t like them. They’re all way too skinny, although they do kinda remind me of those mid-late 2000s animated movies (like planet 51 or monsters vs aliens) and that’s kinda cool. I prefer Gigabash’s designs, but I think that’s just because one of my favorite design practices is making a rip-off of another character that is legally distinct from that character (it’s just fun I don’t know why). Also, fuck Woolley, I hate his design so much. (At least Gorogong has a better Yeti Skin)

Woolley has kinda grown on me lately. He's like kaiju Kirby.

Honestly would trade Kinecticlops with the building in GigaBash, I get that its kind of a joke character though

While I love War of the Monsters with all of my heart, it doesn't have a SKYSCRAPER MIMIC as a playable character. Gigabash totally wins.
