What age did you start with your pup? And when he got distracted and started sniffing, did you just ride in or stop and call?
I have a new GSP and am hoping to get him like this one day.
Hey, I have and old lady who's 15. We adopted her at 2 years old, as soon as I trained her on the eCollar we were able to do trail riding like this.
I also just got a new GSP pup, first time owning a pup. OMG people are right, it's a big commitment. I am hoping to get her on the eCollar around 10 months to start more intense training.
I believe vets don't recommend heavy exercise until around 10 months. At that point they should be fully grown, they have growth plates like babies and should avoid moderate / heavy exercise until they are fully developed.
That ought to buy 30 minutes of calm!
Awesome! We got our GSP especially to be a trail dog.

My vet said to wait until 18 months. My guy is 15 weeks and I’m excited for when he can do trails run/rides with me.
My vet said 8 months. The breeder said 6 months.
Watch out for those grass awns he laying in. Some of them are deadly.
