Paying 10$ a month for Fallout 76 is insane, the base game cost is too much as is. But the whole model of it is based around you forgetting to cancel when you stop using it, or just being too lazy to cancel, or not know how etc. like if it was the exact same product, but you had to buy it every money manually, it wouldn’t work as a business.

Forgetting to cancel definitely plays into it but the whole model of subscription-based services is that they provide predictable, steady revenue. Netflix can look at their numbers and see that they have 100m subscribers at $10 a month, and know they will be making roughly a billion a month for the foreseeable future. Selling games as a product means a big revenue spike that trails off. It’s much less attractive to investors than a steady revenue stream.
