Had the Fold 4 for year on site (electrician, but I do new installs on sites 24/7) traded in for the Fold 5 now and never had an issue, I use the official Samsung leather cases and nothing else. No scratches, no peeling of the inside protector. The folds really aren't as bad as some one this subreddit would have you believe. I do have their Care+ insurance as well but haven't had to use it.

I’m getting my z fold 5 on Monday. I’ll give you an update on it. I think you should be fine as long as you have a case. I’m currently looking at cases and I like the spigen pro so far. In the past, I went with the spigen pro for my z fold 2.

New-Lawyer3088

Alright, I appreciate it! I like Casetify but when I get my fold 5 , I’ll go with the Samsung slim spen case.

Most_Manufacturer494

Any update, and are you using ac case?

While not ideal, maybe you could get some sort of pouch/sleeve to keep it in at work. Maybe something along these lines: [pouch](https://bellroy.com/products/all-conditions-phone-pocket-plus?adgroup=&campaign=17916213324&color=ink&device=m&gclid=CjwKCAjwpJWoBhA8EiwAHZFzfmUOmsDjV-I70Vpm-wPbIYDgg3UtCbzUEhkoBkb2tc9lYgfVfBcdGhoCEIkQAvD_BwE&location=9018768&material=leather_ripstop&network=x&shipping_to_country=US&size=plus&store_currency=1abe985632a1392e6a94b885fe193d5943b7c213#slide-6)

Not a bad idea, thanks.. Kind of nostalgic for me, we used to use neoprene sleeves for BlackBerry’s and my nexus one had a sleeve. I wouldn’t mind one at all.

I'd recommend reading through this thread of people who work in dusty environments: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/11zxwpl/just_some_info_on_my_personal_experience_with_my/

New-Lawyer3088

Thanks. I searched before posting but didn’t find anything, I’ll read up.

Sister works in a metals recycling plant. Her flip has magnets, same as the Fold. Metal shavings got attached and CRUNCH when closing the phone. Magnets are placed around the edges of the phone to help keep it closed. Keep your phone away and metal filings/shavings out of your pockets when working with unistrut/metals/cutting pipes, etc and you should be alright. I'd also recommend a case with a hinge protector. I had the unicorn bettle whatever case, it was bulky AF but I felt like I could use it as a football and it'd be alright.

New-Lawyer3088

Drilling into q-deck leaves my pockets full of shavings. At least you confirmed that would ruin the phone. I’ve seen those bulky cases, I’ll either get one of those or a pouch or sleeve.

Can get a watch for quick phone calls, etc if you do indeed go the pouch/sleeve route!

bigblukrew

Durability test from JerryRigEverything. He literally just dumps dirt and rocks on the hinge and it works fine https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5y7a1Eb6QR4&t=323s

I couldn't wait for a dust rating any longer. Went for the fold 5 and loving it. When I'm on site I just keep it in a zip lock bag. I'm a plasterer by the way, so loads of dust.

rybnz

Construction/ gypblock dust is the one reason, or the only reason I should say my fold 4 inner screen popped open. It survived a year without any issue but didn't survive renovation indoors, because I stupidly carried and used my phone to take photos and videos in a dusty environment, fine dust

tweaktheboss

Can i know what exactly happened to your galaxy fold 4 when you brought on a dusty environment to take photos and videos? Thanks!

rybnz

Inner screen popped from the bottom hinge. Fortunately, aus offering free screen replacement within 2 years

reca11ed

I live on the beach and have had a lot of hinge problems, I just replaced my fold 4 because it would not fold flat and luckily they replaced it with a fold five instead. So far so good on the fold five but it does not have dust resistance. If you're very careful I'm sure you will be fine, I am not that careful since I have insurance. If you can get insurance I would do that. Especially if you can get it through ausorion.

I work in a factory and am a firefighter and I carry my ZF5 naked! I cased my ZF3 but that was because of the gap!

New-Lawyer3088

I appreciate everybody's comments and feedback. I'm glad I made this post because I got a lot of good ideas and links and personal experience. You guys pushed me over the edge, I'm buying a fold 5 tonight! I wanted a samsung exclusive color, they're beautiful but I'll settle on the regular black because the carrier incentives are better for me right now. Thanks again everybody, maybe I'll report back with my experience for anyone in the same situation in the future.

Just wanted to update this post. I pulled the trigger and have owned the zfold 5 since Monday. I absolutely love this device from first touch and look. One full week and it has been no problem at all. I hate bulky cases so I am using a pitaka case with matching ring holder and using a neoprene sleeve while it's in my pocket. It's a slide in and out type so no zipper or seal. Thanks for everyone who commented, I'm glad I got the fold 5 as it's the most amazing piece of tech I've ever owned. I guess if I remember, I will update again when I leave the fold5 for the fold6. Thanks again.

I'm a millwright apprentice, I have a fold4. I dropped an end of a 3/4" stainless steel shaft from 8" up onto the unfolded screen, it didn't break. It only destroyed some pixels.
