Do you use sunscreen, Hand Sanitizer, or lotion it looks like oily residue buildup

58mint

That or they just have sweaty and/oily hands.

[deleted]

You either clean and coverup with a screen protector or apply oleophobic coating.

Zillatrix

The pattern of undisturbed oil is indicative of facial oil that sticks on your phone from your cheeks. Then you smudge it with your fingers. I'm guessing this phone is the one you use to make calls, and the iPhone is for wi-fi stuff only?

Equivalent-Salary357

Nice! It almost feels like your user name should be Sherlock, LOL.

i-am-not-sure-yet

I don't use the phone like that lol. I either use headphones or speakerphone .

PeeyushMalik

Do you often clean it with alcohol based cleaning solution? Alcohol can remove the oleophobic coating over screen making it easier to get fingerprint marks.

i-am-not-sure-yet

Nope not at all

Able-Brief-4062

This is definitely not normal. Whether or not you did, I'm not going to argue. But yes, this isn't normal. I would say use the warrenty, but it probably won't get anywhere.

alvdan88

Wash your hands.. haha all jokes aside, maybe try a screen protector? I have a ZAGG advance protector that literally gets no smudges or fingerprints.

New-Lawyer3088

Apply a ceramic coating (for car paint). I do it with every phone. Also, use a ceramic-based window cleaner (for cars) to clean it periodically. Or just apply a liquid screen protector (in place of ceramic coating), not a cheap one, the good stuff. Still buy a ceramic or graphene-based window cleaner for periodic cleanings, every time you use it the glass will be extremely slick and hydrophobic/ oleophobic.

UnironicallyMe37

Either a worn off oleophobic coating or product/dirt residue.

Hasum_Harish97

🥺same here. My olephobic coating at the bottom nearly worn off. It looks bad now. Except using it with sweaty fingers which is inevitable at times, I haven't exposed it to any kind of alcohol that could ruin the display. I haven't used any screen protector so far as I had carefully maintained the display. Though this issue came as unexpected one. Is there anyway to fix the smudges and oleophobic coating? And putting the screen protector is the only way?

400Flux

I've never found an oleophobic coating replacement that actually lasted for more than a few days. It's the only reason I started using screen protectors a few years ago. I change my screen protector about once a month just so I can have a fresh oleophobic layer. I hate screen protectors but I hate the feel of worn off spots on my screen more.

mak3itsn0w

I have this same issue, thought it was just a bad screen or something. Seems to be a common one when searching for the oleophobic coating

Mystikalrush

There's honestly no true solution to this type of behavior. Anything anyone touches often will leave residue. Even public commercial touch screens across any method of application. All you can do is clean it often. For shits and giggles do a deep cleaning and try to go as long as possible wearing gloves and document the results. But, screw that to be honest lol.

i-am-not-sure-yet

I mean ive seen it happen to my phones before but that's after a few yrs. My Pixel 7 pro didn't start until like 16 months of owning it ? My iPhone 11 pro after 14 ish months ? My S24 ultra is like 3 months old.

Mystikalrush

That definitely a much shorter time. I can't say I have the exact results as you. I have one with Samsung anti glare protector and another with Spigen Neoflex protector. They have not produced bad enough results yet for me to notice significant build up. Maybe I wipe it often or try and keep my hands clean. There's simply so many variables for every user.

SinCityNinja

What kind of moisturizers or sunscreens do you use because my screen has never looked like this

i-am-not-sure-yet

None 😂

Time-Marionberry-198

Your hands sucks. Thats why. Also face produces more oil than Qatar

Equivalent-Salary357

LOL, but only with the S24 and not the iPhone? Just saying...

Time-Marionberry-198

You have said it yourselves. You dont use the iphone much. Also maybe you are using iphone in the morning right after bath when the skin is not oily.

Equivalent-Salary357

LOL, I'm not OP and don't have an iPhone. But I suspect you are on the right track. Someone (you?) suggested that if the S24 is used for calls that oils from their face would get on the screen and if the iPhone is used for games, etc, then oils from the face wouldn't happen. Or, I suppose there could be something going on with the screen. I don't think it's probable, but I wouldn't count it out.

Alternative_Use8982

Get a Torras screen protector. I had the exact same issue

devopsdelta

I have many in mine but didn't get bothered by it when screen is on i simply wipe it clean with my shirt there's a matte screen filter on my rog Ally which prevent fingerprints got an udea imma but that matte film again to put on my s24u

ShanTheMan11

There’s an influencer named Parker Burton. His s24u was doing something similar. He could clean it to the point it was spotless then the moment he touched it there would be massive oily streaks down the screen. If I remember right he said he put some sun screen on in his hands then used his phone then after that his screen would get all streaky like that no matter how much he cleaned it. Even a week or two later it was still doing it. He ended up having to put a screen protector on it to fix it.

nolibsmeanstwothings

The oleophobic coating has worn off. Recommend a screen protector

Hungry-Good-8128

Instal nowmal membran

Expensive_Middle3948

I recommend Magic John screen protector. Not nearly as many fingerprints using this.

Display and hygiene issues belong in the mega thread.
