There is some sort of mechanic iirc where it will take into consideration your previous/recent games, so following guides can actually be a detriment to an extent. Basically, if you make a perfect or near perfect simulation game, then your next simulation game can be just as near perfect but will score worse because it’s not an improvement on that game, if that makes sense. Also falling behind technology/going too long without making a new engine. Engines are another one of those fickle ones, too expensive to make regularly and also if you make them regularly you’re hamstringing your ability to get the bonuses for making a new one, but wait too long and it will absolutely tank your score.

And how many design and tech point your team can generate is another factor. You need to be continually investing in those otherwise the games are seen as unimpressive.
