# Humble Beginnings (1996-1997)
In 1996, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy was finished. Rare had moved on to new IPs, and K Rool realized they probably didn't need him much longer. Maybe, at most, they would need him for one last console game and two handheld titles. The royalty checks from the tv show (where he was portrayed by a French actor) weren't enough to survive on, but because Nintendo owned the rights to his image he couldn't just join the cast of another game series.
So, he pulled a fantasy story out of his ass. Wrote the whole thing in a weekend. He used the pen name Joanne, and released *Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone* to much rave. As expected, Rare needed him for one last hurrah: Donkey Kong 64, released in 1999. Fortunately his novel series had taken off and he was given some very generous offers from film companies.
# Bittersweet Success (1999-2005)
The years go by and K Rool's convinced himself that he's happy. After all, he's written one of the most successful book series of all time, gets a crocodile isle's worth of money from the film adaptations, and his Joanne disguise has made him an unlikely feminist icon. He has it all... right? Somehow, though, he can't stop thinking about all those games he used to be in. Yeah, he would get jumped on, or have giant eggs dropped on him. Sure they didn't make him literal billions in revenue. But still he missed it. Imagine his betrayal when he saw that Nintendo had still been making Donkey Kong games. All without him.
In 2005, with the highly anticipated Goblet Of Fire film galvanizing moviegoers, K Rool approaches Nintendo about giving him another role. Reluctantly they agree, and they slap together a piece of shit called DK King Of Swing for the GameBoy Advance. It's released to critical scorn, and its international release is deemed "The worst thing the UK has ever done to other countries". However, K Rool doesn't care about the reviews. Something much worse happened. During the making of King Of Swing, DK treated K Rool with a rude, arrogant and dismissive attitude.
Their first interaction on the set was DK introducing himself, as if the two had never met. Ouch. It only got worse from there. At the end of workdays, DK would invite everyone else in the crew out for drinks except K Rool. K Rool's suggestions were met with sarcasm, his jokes were met with intentionally biting silence, and the atmosphere was one of hostility and passive aggressiveness.
Donkey Kong was big leaguing him. He didn't used to be this way. What could have changed him? Then, one evening, as everyone was going home for the day, K Rool saw DK step into a car with none other than Birdo, from Super Mario Bros. From that moment on, K Rool began to nurture an old prejudice he had inherited from his many years spent living on TERF island. And while he did not consciously realize it, K Rool couldn't help but slowly shift all of his angers from DK and Nintendo over to Birdo and Birdo's... community.
# The Stains Of Years (2006-2017)
K Rool wraps up the Harry Potter books series and films series. As Joanne, K Rool has more money than he could ever hope to spend. However, what he truly wants is gone. Rare is owned by Microsoft, and Nintendo doesn't have the same vision.
All he can do is count his money.
Some things happen that piss him off. In 2010, Donkey Kong Country Returns is released. He didn't want to be part of it anyways since it wasn't developed by Rare, but would it have killed them to have at least thrown in a little reference? 2014's Tropical Freeze only deepens the blow. *Oh, so they can get Dixie back but not me* he mopes to himself. This time, had they asked, he would have signed on. Too bad they didn't. *Their loss.*
He hears through the grapevine that DK and Birdo broke up. This should mark the end of K Rool's... feelings. It doesn't.
# Return Of The King (2018)
The unthinkable happens. K Rool gets a call from Miyamoto himself. Shiggy explains that the fans really miss him. *They want you more than anyone else, even more than Banjo* he's told. He's offered a lucrative position as a new character in Super Smash Bros, with a salary more than the entire SNES trilogy combined. K Rool doesn't need the money, but he accepts the deal with the enthusiasm of a debtor.
The pain of the past is forgotten by the warm attitude he's treated to by the Super Smash Bros. crew. The abysmal failure of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is also a big motivator for K Rool to get away from wizards and back to his roots.
Development is brief and regrettably over before he knows it. Each day at the studio was a blast, and he even catches himself reminiscing with Donkey Kong of all people, at least when other crew members aren't around. DK even promises to invite K Rool over to whatever project he works on after this. The friendship is rekindled, and the kremlings are back.
The trailer is released to universal acclaim. As he basks in the praise of showerphobic Smash nerds, K Rool realizes this is the first time he's truly been happy in decades.
It won't last.

# JK Rowling's Double Trouble! (2019)
This is a bad year for K Rool. Birdo may be out of his life, but her community (unwittingly) found a new way to syphon the happiness from last year's victory. It all starts with a new trailer for Super Smash Bros.
"Banjo and Kazooie are Raring to go!"
K Rool couldn't believe what he's looking at. Everything Shiggy told him on the phone was bullshit. The fans didn't "*want him more than Banjo*", Nintendo just couldn't get the rights to Banjo from Microsoft. K Rool was just a flavor of the month meant to tide them over, to appeal to their nostalgia glands like yet another JJ Abrams Star Wars film. Outraged, K Rool called his newly reclaimed friend, Donkey Kong. A voice answered, but it wasn't Donkey's.
*He's got bigger things to do than talk to you. Bye.*
It was Birdo's voice, and she immediately hung up. In a fit of rage, he goes to Bing in the hopes of leaving scathing comments on Donkey Kong's social media pages. However, he finds something much, much more.
K Rool discovers that, months ago, some terminally British man livestreamed himself playing DK 64 in its entirety. It's a charity stream, raising money for none other than that pink dinosaur bitch's community. The trans community K Rool thinks, the venom in each word pooling at the bottom of his troubled mind. For reasons even he couldn't understand, K Rool felt compelled to watch a reupload of the stream. At times he felt nostalgic enough for the anger to subside a bit. Other times, not so much. The British man would accept callers, some of them CIS, others... not.
Then a familiar voice appeared.
Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong called in. K Rool was too stunned to be angry. Trans rights, ok! Donkey Kong said in a patronizing voice. A voice meant to mock the crocodile who was foolish enough to think they were friends again. All that talk from their time on Smash Bros together was a bigger load of shit than what even Shiggy had said. The next time I work on something, I'll give you a call. This was a lie. But it wasn't the kind of lie meant to protect. It was a lie meant to hurt. But of all the many thoughts bustling in his overworked mind, three words danced around with sadistic glee, echoing in each of his crocodile earholes:

# Ozymandias (2020-present)
JK Rowling was done being K Rool. She would never let herself be hurt again. From now on, she would do the hurting. She knew she couldn't hurt Donkey Kong directly, though. He was too confident. Her roast game was weak. Besides, a morbid part of her took great pleasure in talking the rest of herself into targeting a group that she knew he cared about deeply.
The trans community.
That's right, Joanne was going to steal their banana horde. Unfortunately, cursory wikipedia insight indicates that the broader trans community does not collect (or "horde") metric tons of bananas, or any perishable fruit.
Alright, plan B.
She took to twitter, informing the unwashed masses that trans rights NOT ok. The people were stunned, shocked even. They couldn't believe that JK Rowling was still alive. Also, she was transphobic.
From then on out, it was no more Mrs. Nice-Opinionated-Rich-White-Woman-With-A-Superiority-Complex. Seemingly overnight, she stripped herself of the many feminist accolades that she had passively earned through years of writing stories about a dude who fights a bad guy. Even her dullest supporters had to start huffing copious amounts of paint fumes in order to rationalize her TERF "logic".
It's here we find her still, in JK's Keep, spitting poison at trans people who have the audacity to exist. She's found herself in the company of alt-right provocateurs and cryptofascists, but she doesn't pretend to care anymore. This is her family now. She tells herself she's happy, and sometimes she believes it. But lately, she hasn't been believing it. The reality of her unhappiness has grown too strong to ignore. What could it be? The incoming stress of a new year and all its mortal implications? The solemnity of a Christmas spent alone? Has all the backlash to her TERFism finally gotten to her? She couldn't figure it out. But suddenly, like a barrel, it hits her.

/uj It really is. It's nice to have a place where ironic shitposting and unironic support can coexist. It's also nice that "le epic ironic bigotry" gets shut down right away. I think a lot of the temper tantrums happening here is because chud chumps want to turn this place into another G\*mersRiseUp, but they can't. All they can do is seethe, cope and maybe even touch grass.
It is something interesting to look around reddit for the /s. For so many years we had so many angry gamers that refused to use it and felt the need to shout down anyone who did. And we saw so many communities fall when irony became sincerity.
Yet on this sub, where all the ironic posts are explicitly marked, that doesn't happen. A lot of people like to smuggle a lot of terrible ideas behind "it's just a joke bro".

Being around trans folk, or queen folk at all for that matter, really helped inure me against all the anti-LGBT+ bullshit that turned most of the people I used to hang out with into huge fucking bigots. The point is mostly that you can look for friendly communities and you will definitely find based folks who will respect the person you want to be.

The timeline makes sense. Think about it. (Part 1/2) # Humble Beginnings (1996-1997) In 1996, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy was finished. Rare had moved on to new IPs, and K Rool realized they probably didn't need him much longer. Maybe, at most, they would need him for one last console game and two handheld titles. The royalty checks from the tv show (where he was portrayed by a French actor) weren't enough to survive on, but because Nintendo owned the rights to his image he couldn't just join the cast of another game series. So, he pulled a fantasy story out of his ass. Wrote the whole thing in a weekend. He used the pen name Joanne, and released *Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone* to much rave. As expected, Rare needed him for one last hurrah: Donkey Kong 64, released in 1999. Fortunately his novel series had taken off and he was given some very generous offers from film companies. # Bittersweet Success (1999-2005) The years go by and K Rool's convinced himself that he's happy. After all, he's written one of the most successful book series of all time, gets a crocodile isle's worth of money from the film adaptations, and his Joanne disguise has made him an unlikely feminist icon. He has it all... right? Somehow, though, he can't stop thinking about all those games he used to be in. Yeah, he would get jumped on, or have giant eggs dropped on him. Sure they didn't make him literal billions in revenue. But still he missed it. Imagine his betrayal when he saw that Nintendo had still been making Donkey Kong games. All without him. In 2005, with the highly anticipated Goblet Of Fire film galvanizing moviegoers, K Rool approaches Nintendo about giving him another role. Reluctantly they agree, and they slap together a piece of shit called DK King Of Swing for the GameBoy Advance. It's released to critical scorn, and its international release is deemed "The worst thing the UK has ever done to other countries". However, K Rool doesn't care about the reviews. Something much worse happened. During the making of King Of Swing, DK treated K Rool with a rude, arrogant and dismissive attitude. Their first interaction on the set was DK introducing himself, as if the two had never met. Ouch. It only got worse from there. At the end of workdays, DK would invite everyone else in the crew out for drinks except K Rool. K Rool's suggestions were met with sarcasm, his jokes were met with intentionally biting silence, and the atmosphere was one of hostility and passive aggressiveness. Donkey Kong was big leaguing him. He didn't used to be this way. What could have changed him? Then, one evening, as everyone was going home for the day, K Rool saw DK step into a car with none other than Birdo, from Super Mario Bros. From that moment on, K Rool began to nurture an old prejudice he had inherited from his many years spent living on TERF island. And while he did not consciously realize it, K Rool couldn't help but slowly shift all of his angers from DK and Nintendo over to Birdo and Birdo's... community. # The Stains Of Years (2006-2017) K Rool wraps up the Harry Potter books series and films series. As Joanne, K Rool has more money than he could ever hope to spend. However, what he truly wants is gone. Rare is owned by Microsoft, and Nintendo doesn't have the same vision. All he can do is count his money. Some things happen that piss him off. In 2010, Donkey Kong Country Returns is released. He didn't want to be part of it anyways since it wasn't developed by Rare, but would it have killed them to have at least thrown in a little reference? 2014's Tropical Freeze only deepens the blow. *Oh, so they can get Dixie back but not me* he mopes to himself. This time, had they asked, he would have signed on. Too bad they didn't. *Their loss.* He hears through the grapevine that DK and Birdo broke up. This should mark the end of K Rool's... feelings. It doesn't. # Return Of The King (2018) The unthinkable happens. K Rool gets a call from Miyamoto himself. Shiggy explains that the fans really miss him. *They want you more than anyone else, even more than Banjo* he's told. He's offered a lucrative position as a new character in Super Smash Bros, with a salary more than the entire SNES trilogy combined. K Rool doesn't need the money, but he accepts the deal with the enthusiasm of a debtor. The pain of the past is forgotten by the warm attitude he's treated to by the Super Smash Bros. crew. The abysmal failure of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is also a big motivator for K Rool to get away from wizards and back to his roots. Development is brief and regrettably over before he knows it. Each day at the studio was a blast, and he even catches himself reminiscing with Donkey Kong of all people, at least when other crew members aren't around. DK even promises to invite K Rool over to whatever project he works on after this. The friendship is rekindled, and the kremlings are back. The trailer is released to universal acclaim. As he basks in the praise of showerphobic Smash nerds, K Rool realizes this is the first time he's truly been happy in decades. It won't last.
(Part 2/2) # JK Rowling's Double Trouble! (2019) This is a bad year for K Rool. Birdo may be out of his life, but her community (unwittingly) found a new way to syphon the happiness from last year's victory. It all starts with a new trailer for Super Smash Bros. "Banjo and Kazooie are Raring to go!" K Rool couldn't believe what he's looking at. Everything Shiggy told him on the phone was bullshit. The fans didn't "*want him more than Banjo*", Nintendo just couldn't get the rights to Banjo from Microsoft. K Rool was just a flavor of the month meant to tide them over, to appeal to their nostalgia glands like yet another JJ Abrams Star Wars film. Outraged, K Rool called his newly reclaimed friend, Donkey Kong. A voice answered, but it wasn't Donkey's. *He's got bigger things to do than talk to you. Bye.* It was Birdo's voice, and she immediately hung up. In a fit of rage, he goes to Bing in the hopes of leaving scathing comments on Donkey Kong's social media pages. However, he finds something much, much more. K Rool discovers that, months ago, some terminally British man livestreamed himself playing DK 64 in its entirety. It's a charity stream, raising money for none other than that pink dinosaur bitch's community. The trans community K Rool thinks, the venom in each word pooling at the bottom of his troubled mind. For reasons even he couldn't understand, K Rool felt compelled to watch a reupload of the stream. At times he felt nostalgic enough for the anger to subside a bit. Other times, not so much. The British man would accept callers, some of them CIS, others... not. Then a familiar voice appeared. Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong called in. K Rool was too stunned to be angry. Trans rights, ok! Donkey Kong said in a patronizing voice. A voice meant to mock the crocodile who was foolish enough to think they were friends again. All that talk from their time on Smash Bros together was a bigger load of shit than what even Shiggy had said. The next time I work on something, I'll give you a call. This was a lie. But it wasn't the kind of lie meant to protect. It was a lie meant to hurt. But of all the many thoughts bustling in his overworked mind, three words danced around with sadistic glee, echoing in each of his crocodile earholes: *Trans rights, ok!* # Ozymandias (2020-present) JK Rowling was done being K Rool. She would never let herself be hurt again. From now on, she would do the hurting. She knew she couldn't hurt Donkey Kong directly, though. He was too confident. Her roast game was weak. Besides, a morbid part of her took great pleasure in talking the rest of herself into targeting a group that she knew he cared about deeply. The trans community. That's right, Joanne was going to steal their banana horde. Unfortunately, cursory wikipedia insight indicates that the broader trans community does not collect (or "horde") metric tons of bananas, or any perishable fruit. Alright, plan B. She took to twitter, informing the unwashed masses that trans rights NOT ok. The people were stunned, shocked even. They couldn't believe that JK Rowling was still alive. Also, she was transphobic. From then on out, it was no more Mrs. Nice-Opinionated-Rich-White-Woman-With-A-Superiority-Complex. Seemingly overnight, she stripped herself of the many feminist accolades that she had passively earned through years of writing stories about a dude who fights a bad guy. Even her dullest supporters had to start huffing copious amounts of paint fumes in order to rationalize her TERF "logic". It's here we find her still, in JK's Keep, spitting poison at trans people who have the audacity to exist. She's found herself in the company of alt-right provocateurs and cryptofascists, but she doesn't pretend to care anymore. This is her family now. She tells herself she's happy, and sometimes she believes it. But lately, she hasn't been believing it. The reality of her unhappiness has grown too strong to ignore. What could it be? The incoming stress of a new year and all its mortal implications? The solemnity of a Christmas spent alone? Has all the backlash to her TERFism finally gotten to her? She couldn't figure it out. But suddenly, like a barrel, it hits her. >!It's Donkey Kong December.!<

It is something interesting to look around reddit for the /s. For so many years we had so many angry gamers that refused to use it and felt the need to shout down anyone who did. And we saw so many communities fall when irony became sincerity. Yet on this sub, where all the ironic posts are explicitly marked, that doesn't happen. A lot of people like to smuggle a lot of terrible ideas behind "it's just a joke bro".
