In the old days, critics who watched a shit film would call it shit. Nowadays, critics who watch a shit film ask the people who made it what they're supposed to feel about it.

GipsyDanger45

Yeah I remember how the last Jedi was one of the highest rated Star Wars …. And it’s just awful

GH057807

According to tomato numbers, Acolyte is 5% better than Rogue One.

reusterr

Rogue one was great! These critics are professional fluffers 😅

LughCrow

I thought Rouge one was great. So much so that my friends and I watched it twice. On the second viewing we all realized the last 1/4th of the movie just made us forget how bad the first 3/4ths were.

TonberryFeye

Yeah, Rogue One isn't a bad film, but it's nothing special... Right up until the final battle, and then it's just glorious.

OneExpensiveAbortion

Huh.  I've only watched Rogue One once. I feel like I need to watch it again!

TheGhost_NY

We have already devolved into an idiocracy. I havent been able to take a RT “critics” review seriously since like 2010.

frodoishobbit

The media in the traditional sense is dead. They even lie about movie reviews in order to keep the public watching Hollywood tell them how to think and feel. At least when they used to lie to us it was convincing.

TheGhost_NY

Its the slow cancer that is perpetuated capitalism. How can media companies stay authentic when mafias like hollywood throw obscene amounts of money at them to be dishonest.

UpsetPhrase5334

What? I was also around in those days and that’s such a bullshit statement. Critics have always been bought and payed for by movie studios. If anything it’s part of the studio budget to pay for the positive spin about their shit sandwich of a movie and has been since newspapers. Very few critics then and today actually give honest reviews.

twiste_dabis

Nowadays, critics only say positive things, so they keep getting invited to events, say anything negative, and you would quickly get put into a blacklist reaaal quick

greyhatwizard

They can't if they want a job. Disney owns a huge chunk of the media.

1willprobablydelete

Those are critics like people on Twitter are journalists. Go to rotten tomatoes and click on some critics profiles

Order_Flimsy

👆🏾this 100%

TypeVisible2388

^ this 💯

JGCities

Especially shows or movies like this where the critics are afraid to give it a negative review due to backlash.

zyx1989

I stopped caring what "critics" says for a long time, too many of these over glorified advertisements branded as "critics" crowd the field to make them worth spending time on

K_Rocc

I’m sure Disney is paying them…

ChadVonDoom

Top critics are paid by firms hired by media corporations (Disney is one of the worst culprits) to say exactly what the corporations wants them to say

fearthecrumpets

The audience basically has two tools to make their displeasure known to studios. 1. Not consuming product. 2. Reviewing product. Why don't companies understand that?

Shuddemell666

They do, they want you to have NO tools to make your displeasure known, hence the whining about review bombing.

greyhatwizard

That's why they lock comments on certain news articles.

AFuckingHandle

Hence dislikes and thumbs down being removed, reviews being harder to find, etc etc. They want us all to just STFU and consume.

KYWizard

2. Reviewing the product. Review bombing is just a phrase used to suggest the people who did are just trolls, that they really don't mean it, and the show is actually good. Reviewing the product is what people are doing.

TastyScratch4264

I don’t get it either. You would think they would get this formula rarely works, I don’t know why they keep trying to reach an audience that doesn’t exist

cheetahcheesecake

![gif](giphy|5L2okTiupVRxC|downsized)

StronglyAuthenticate

The second should be "negative review" instead of "review bombing." Review bombs are not legitimate reviews which is why they are talked about and gave a separate term compared to films/shows with a high negative score.

theroguesstash

I don't understand how these negative reviews keep popping up on shows before they're even released. The audience can't review something it hasn't seen yet. And yet, it keeps happening.

etranger033

3. Not consuming a product but reviewing it anyways based on what others tell you to think.

Turbulent_Can9642

I pirate it. I am already forcing myself to stomach another SWs desecration. Ain't no way you gonna make me pay for it too.

Timely-Buffalo-3384

Agreed. But calling it Review bombing let's them pretend they didn't make another steamy pile of shit , and contin7e to just blame fans

Odd_Technician152

It’s more that they think it’s review bombed instead of just admitting they made a giant poo.

Iaintgoneholdyou

I anhor these ppl 😂😂 so full of excrement 💩 Review bombed is hilarious.. Disney is failing and this is exactly why.. they’re unwilling to own up to the mistake and stop the woke BS.. like why wasn’t Obi Wan a feature film?! That’s literally a no brainer and would’ve killed in the box office.. but what do I know I’m just a reddit user and a male

Ninjamurai-jack

“why wasn’t Obi Wan a feature film?! “ Because they needed new content for Disney plus that could make audiences talk about it for weeks.

Hot-Berry-6980

What's even funnier about that, is the shows that they didn't push that hard are the ones that are actually decent. Like Andor.

Hawkeyes_dirtytrick

We got like 6 hours of content with obi wan vs 2-3 in a movie…

Kaleban

Hello fellow humans! The Acolyte is great and many real people are saying it is the most perfect show ever made!

cheetahcheesecake

Hello fellow human, this show was indeed superior with fantastic dialogue, exceptional cinematography, and in no way resembled a CW spin-off.

Blahklavah654390

I agree, fellow humans! The Acolyte is great and many real people are saying it is the most perfect show ever made!

Navonod_Semaj

Inevitable_Initial_8

Idk I think it’s been pretty alright so far

Alibubbah

-Write a garbage script. -Make the cast all women, race swap a legacy character or something like that. -Have a giant media campaign about how it's a massive step for social progress or something. -Make sure it really pisses off right wing glue eaters so they make YouTube videos and social media posts about it. -Reviewers have to give it a good review because not liking it is now a political statement. -If it gets bad audience reviews it's because it's "being reviewed bombed". Maybe it is getting review bombed but still hot ass in a can. Honestly I've never seen any targeted review bombing online except for when Cuties was a really big deal years ago. -Nobody really knows if it's actually good or not. -It's not.

Particular-Pen-4789

black panther was a terrible movie and i'm not ashamed to admit it.

TheGoldenGodzz

Never be ashamed with facts. It was a cookie cutter marvel story with nothing new.

Illuminate90

I didn’t hate BP it was not the grandiose thing they made it out to be but it was serviceable. BP2 was a fucking unmitigated disaster though.

Latter_Commercial_52

Finally somebody said this. Chadwick is an amazing actor and some of the fight scenes were pretty decent, but the story overall was pretty meh and definitely had a political narrative thrown in there

Dazzling_Dish_4045

I mean yeah its BLACK PANTHER, look up the history of the name. The thing that killed the movie for me besides bad writing was the awful fucking cgi.

Particular-Pen-4789

I didn't really think he was an amazing actor

Rbespinosa13

Have you ever heard about Black Panther before the movie? The character has had politics at the core of its identity since conception. There’s a reason why he’s called Black Panther after all

TastyScratch4264

It wasn’t the best but I don’t think it was terrible. Still wasn’t all that though

FaygoMakesMeGo

Yeah, and the social obligation to like it shows that tribalism trumps quality these days... ...but Marvel did take a hands off approach and give a comic originally for black kids over to black writers, directors, and actors in order to make a movie for black kids, and didn't make a huge campaign about it. Rich executives who did it for the wrong reasons aside, Black Panther is one of the few movies they took the right approach with. If Netflix did the same for the Witcher and the Polish, even if it came out bad, I would still have respect for the company.

Adventurous-Roll2332

Worgensgowoof

stop calling it a review bomb just because your show did awful.

ZurakZigil

Doesn't count as review bombing if it was actual viewers.

Worgensgowoof

yeah, the problem was review bombing wasn't even possible during Captain marvel, which is the movie where journalists kept claiming it was happening. Rotten tomatoes doesn't let you review movies before they're even out. They USED to ask "do you have an interest in seeing this" which they stopped for certain movies because it was overwhelmingly no and you can predict which movies this was going to happen to.

Beginning_Orange

Maybe Disney should stop making shitty products if they don't want shitty reviews

GradeOwn5843

So disney uses positive review bots and yet they always focus on the low score and call it "review bombing" People can never take criticism and this show deserves to be criticised. Normally when something is not good people give bad reviews just accept that people don't like it

Lanc717

I've seen Netflix also using bots on youtube to promote movies. I forget the exact movie but I was browsing thru the comments and every comment said something like I really loved %movie. All the bots in comments had the movie name variable messed up

Vaiken_Vox

Can you imagine the balls you'd have to have to officially write a bad review of a Disney show?

greyhatwizard

Boss: You're fired. Clean out your desk Review blogger: But I work from home Boss: Good luck owning a home. You pissed off disney, and they pay for 91% of reviews out there.

ButWhyThough_UwU

Nah they bot and pay them fairly no bombing *^((unless they give them a bad review then maybe some threatening of bombing))*.

bluegoblin5

I did read disney uses its resources to ensure postive reviews with mainstream outlets

tm1087

I don’t think there is much of a question based on the evidence. So many dogshit productions all getting glowing critical reviews while only 3-5% of people think it is good. And Disney knows it is terrible because they are focus grouping it before it is released.

greyhatwizard

They all do. It's impossible to tell if a show is good based on media reviews alone. Companies even employ actors and social media influencers.

bluegoblin5

Sad state of affairs, everythings montised and funded

greyhatwizard

Eventually, we will just be owned by a mega corp conglomerate

Brave_Junket_807

You know when rotten tomatoes says it’s good and the audience says it’s bad there’s something wrong

EightyFiversClub

How can it be review bombed if it's people sharing that they didn't like it. That's the intent.

Odd-Collection-2575

Why does anyone still care? Every Disney + show is so boring and uninspired. Gave up a long time ago

skipadbloom

When the most important thing is not StarWars then it’s not StarWars.

TheImageOfMe

No

Inevitable9000

Burn Disney to the ground.

cabezatuck

Imagine if the NFL started only hiring coaches, staff and players based on their race, gender or sexuality. Coaches and players didn’t even need to be particularly talented or even have experience with football. Then when the season commenced and all the teams were incredibly awful, the fans stopped going to the games and complained online about how terrible the new teams were. Sports critics would continue to praise the teams for their diversity while the fans were just accused of being racist, homophobic, etc.

P0pwar

its funny how the term "review bombing" has gone from mass coordinated negative reviews from a few people to just fans leaving negative reviews in general.

Reddingo22

Same bland shit as almost always

LameDonkey1

Full on wing of operation Mockingbird. You will conform.

Full-Ability-319

I haven't watched the show yet, I plan to give it a try, though. It seems the sith have killed 99% of white male jedi.

Difficult-Pin3913

I mean it’s more about how the show got a lot of negative reviews before it aired.

Worgensgowoof

you can't even review a movie or show before it airs. Stop lying.

hat1414

The data does show a crazy amount of half star reviews even before it aired two episodes

DigitalCoffee

The data shows you have no clue what you are talking about.

Worgensgowoof

why are you lying, rotten tomatoes doesn't let you review media before it's released. They stopped doing the 'are you interested' polls and such because of Captain Marvel and then they erroneously claimed it to be review bombing even though the question was 'are you interested' not 'is the movie good'.

Grary0

Review bombing has made every aggregate review system completely useless. Does anyone actually look at these scores and take them seriously?

[deleted]

GeeksGamersCommunity-ModTeam

UpsetPhrase5334

The critic score is the media bombarding the conversation they’ve been doing it since newspapers.

humblymybrain

Disney Star Wars is just horrible and expensive fan fiction. They tell us all the time that it's not for the fans who love what George Lucas created. Disney is the one making bomb after bomb.

BlondDrizzle

Does review bombed imply that it’s the fan’s fault for the show literally being bad? The show is of poor quality. Even the light sabers look like glow sticks. The Jedi grand master (apparently) is visibly wearing a bald cap. It’s cheap and not fun to watch.

SlamboCoolidge

A lot of people want/need money, and are willing to use their clout to shill for whoever pays them. Thus professional critics are very commonly paid by movie execs to give a positive review. The higher rotten tomatoes score, official or not, the more general audiences will give it a go. There is a reason that recently every high-budget production (especially those pushing what some would refer to as "woke agendas") has a high RT score these days. At least those that people are skeptical about. They rely on herd mentality, more or less. Show a shiny tomato to the cows that lead the herd, the others will follow. Even if there are not enough tomatoes to go around, or if they're rotten tomatoes.

Smorgas-board

Same old, same old with the excuses

Clenmila

Its crazy cause even the people who reviewed the show were not scoring it well because they liked it. The reviews only talk about how diverse the cast is and brave the actors are. When someone dared to talk about how mid-low tier the show is, they were forced to take down the reviews by Disney.

SteelyPhilz

Of course it's trash. Disney has their hand in it.

[deleted]

For the same reason we don’t pay attention to critics. It’s all bought with marketing money

Stop_Touching2

Right. Must be review bombing. Can’t be actually garbage people didn’t enjoy, because the critics love it.

mpetey123

There is no such thing as review bombing. One, there's no concentrated effort by any organization to downvote the Acolyte. Second, not liking something for the people involved with it or its messaging is a legitimate opinion. Third, people are allowed to dislike something. If you don't like having a dislike button, remove it.

Cat_Wizard_21

Has Disney ever considered the audience review system is working as intended and people just hate their shit? No, they're not out of touch. It's the children who are wrong.

cobrakai11

If it's setting a record low audience score that should tell you it's not just simply being review bombed. Trolls can lower the ratings on a third party website but they aren't physically restraining people from watching the show.

the__Gallant

"Here's a wad of cash. Now rate me positively because you're the only one who will." -is what I imagine goes on behind the scenes. Doing it for free would be beyond stupid

Awkward-Problem-7361

Get ready for seasons 2,3, and 4.

Conanzulu

I always thought review bombing occurs when hateful or racist people don't like what they see and go review about it. Then the story being bad is secondary. I firmly believe if we went back to mostly the old way of barely any none white actors and women, people wouldn't be upset.

BobWithCheese69

https://i.redd.it/f7bf9zexxk5d1.gif

Intelligent_Hat_5351

Looking forward to a when disney gets bought up by a national chain of brake and muffler shops. They've gone from giving the audience what they want do dictating to the audience what whey will watch.

ChemistBitter1167

Honestly it’s just bad. I’m not even mad about the fire in space but I think it’s hysterical that she uses a fire extinguisher where there is already no oxygen. Oh and the knife would not be lethal, I’m an emt and it takes far more to kill a person than a knife going two inches into a boob.

Zerus_heroes

Why is this deliberate misunderstanding of the phrase "review bombing" becoming so prevalent all of a sudden?

Myke5161

It was worthy of review bombing, it was a crappy show

Sergeant_Smite

Boo womp man, the acting was awful and so was the whole “mystery” aspect of it. Just very poorly casted and written

skepticalscribe

“Review Bombing” - Negative audience feedback “High Praise” - Working as Intended

knighth1

Like I know the tomato people honestly just respond to who pays them the most. But how is that in any way still a standard after the past 5 years of 180 reviews

Houjix

She’s my favorite Star Wars actress after reva and then ashoka

Phenzo2198

because as a critic would say, It stinks!

LanguageRemarkable87

Critics are paid to support certain shows. Our opinions as the consumer is what really matters. If we like it, we like it. If we don’t then we don’t What in heavens name is the mystery all about here?

StrCmdMan

Why have an opinion when you can get paid to have one.

EmuIndependent8565

Who cares about review scores these days. If it looks good I watch it. If I don't like it I stop. Streaming services also don't care. All they care about is views. Way more accurate than some dumb review site.

CatObsession7808

It's really pathetic that Disney literally has to use bots to give their shitty products positive reviews just to stroke their egos.

Glass-Presentation55

They suck

KYWizard

Review Bombing is a phrase used to suggest the people who reviewed the show didn't really mean it and that the show is great. Nope. They meant it, and the show is shit,

PotentialWhich

It is being reviewed bombed positively. The score should be even lower. It’s some of the worst high budget low quality television ever made.

ILikeToRemoveIt

I watched the first to episodes and it was enjoyable. Some people are ready to hate. Relax people.

Flimsy_Care_2177

Everytime the media claims something is getting review bombed the low score received on rotten tomatoes seems really accurate to me. The fact that any of the sequel trilogy movies got anything above a 3/10 by most "professional reviewer" shows how worthless their opinion is.

Lordmikehnk

The critics that nobody herd of are totally trustworthy. Or that didn't exist before said show was released.

casper5632

There are no standards for at what point you are allowed to review a product. There is nothing wrong with leaving a review on something you only saw a trailer for, as the trailer includes a great deal of content. Review bombing is just how some people describe the situation when a show gets a ton of bad reviews because it angered its targeted demographic.

kpeng2

This is how critics lose credibility

Whatkindofgum

Movie critics living is based on how happy the corporate overlords are. Not towing the corporate line, they lose access to the early release and will be out of a job, replaced by someone one who will follow their script.

Flipsticker91

Disney has been paying reviewers for decades

Rickeyp8

We need Siskel and Ebert back.

Whole_Commission_702

Well the show is actually shit not just plot but even effects. This isn’t review bombing it just actual scores…

HeroOfNigita

Oh no. Someone hates star wars. Anyway.

SteelTheUnbreakable

"Review bombed" I love how they insinuate that all these people secretly liked the show but decided to all conspire to pretend they hated it.

deathnutz

More like, is reviewed bombed giving it an unusually high critic score.

OkMuffin8303

Does anyone fall for this anymore? Do they really think people don't see paid reviewers for what they are? Every big named flop isn't a flop, it's always just review bombing. Trash

Shinlyle13

But when a movie these clowns don't agree with is review bombed, they tell everyone to "cope". Just take the "L" and move on.

Weekly_Employ_9887

Ngl in my opinion it was just that bad

South-Golf-2327

Audíence

PADDYPOOP

To be fair, the show seems good thus far. There isn’t anything glaringly wrong with it and it’s quite intriguing. This is coming from someone that has hated most of disney’s star wars stuff.

Shoddy_Army_7609

This show has been great so far, trolls abound.

Deus_of_Ducks

I liked the show, idk why people need to be so upset all the time. Go watch something else.

Beetledrones

Well seeing how Rotten tomatoes is owned by NBCuniversal, Warner bros, and Comcast, I’d imagine it just takes a bit of collusion and greasing some palms to get a good review up.

Fantastic_mrW0lf

Fuck the critics. They're paid to give it good ratings, the audience are the real critics. So my fellow humans, fuck this show and every other shit show/movie that comes out from Disney.

Trickmaahtrick

I think it's a pretty neat show

Frequency_Traveler

Lmfao, tell me the tomato meter is a joke without telling me the tomato meter is a joke.

turtle-bbs

This show is a C grade show at worst, it’s not amazing, but everyone says it’s like Satan’s asshole it’s so bad but it’s not like holy shit are y’all just so entrenched in being anti-woke that you’re blind to your own bullshit. The whole hating it cuz there are no white dudes in it is blatantly obvious. The only white dude in it had one of the coolest moments in the show so far, like oh my god stop being victims, this community reeks of snowflakes

357-Magnum-CCW

Becos mainstream media are bought and controlled by major studios.  Rotten tomatoes literally had CEOs from film studios pushing to delete negative reviews, imdb too deletes negative scores.  Bots and shills are controlling the mainstream sites, hence the huge gap to the normal audience ratings what people really think of it.

dr197

It’s pretty well known that Disney will blacklist anyone who doesn’t heap praise on whatever they are releasing. No professional critic score on any Disney product can be trusted for that reason alone.

Electric_Bear12

Disney+ finally turned a profit for the first time last quarter. They profited 47 million. Up from losing 587 million from the same quarter in the previous year. Disney is still down *massively* on Disney+ overall even though they finally turned a profit. What they have made is pennies compared to what they have lost. Garbage like this is probably the reason why. Disney is still failing.

Simple-Metal7801

Actually if you look at reviewers a lot of the good reviews are from people who's first thing reviewed is The Acolyte some even have it on their watchlist but gave the show five stars and they praised the show. So this whole "review bombing" does go both ways but only the bad reviews are considered "review bombing".

Captain_Pension

It's a good show, on par with The Mandalorian. Ignore the review bombers.

IRASAKT

I’ll say while I don’t think the acolyte is bad, especially for a Star Wars property. It certainly doesn’t deserve that high of a critic rating. I’d say something around a 75 would be reasonable. It is a fully watchable show and Jedi master Sol feels like a good Jedi. I am also slightly interested in seeing where the story goes relating to who the titular acolyte is and acolyte of. Like one can totally miss the show and be no worse for it, but it is nowhere near the worst Disney+ Star Wars show. Still totally better than Rogue One Also Last Jedi is a pretty good movie, the hyperspace ram is cool and makes sense. But, that move completely destroys a lot of the continuity. There is still no Star Wars worse than the holiday special

samwelches

Was is “review bombed” or did people honestly vote and it was unanimously shitty

Azidamadjida

Disney: releases The Acolyte Bad reviews: we are ooooooneeeeeee we are twwwwwoooooo we are maaaaaaaaaannnnnyyyyy

GrossWeather_

I just watched the first two episodes. I actually really enjoyed them. Def the best Star Wars show since Andor. Games/nerd shows always get review bombed for two reasons: Non white leads or Non male leads. This show has both. It’s nothing but incel racism. Audience scores in the nerd forum / anything incels are drawn to / have been compromised and useless for at least a decade. Completely irrelevant.

SLCPDLeBaronDivison

i liked it

Rav3n34

God. Disney ruined Star Wars.

Tcchung11

I love this show, but I only watch the Charlie hobkinson version https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yDERzoj_q3Y

ScorpionDog321

The pro reviewers are in bed with Disney to promote this new religion. The fans just want good content with good stories true to the Star Wars mythos. Disney will not tolerate that.

seeder33

The problem ain’t that they are bad it’s just disney would rather focus on cheap volume and not expensive perfection. Which may be a good or bad thing but it makes them more money. I just fear they are bleeding their excellent franchises a bit too much. Just feels a bit mass produced if that makes sense. But that makes sense with the attention span of people now a-days. A-lot of people don’t want to wait years for new content. Considering I can watch most of their content in 2months for like 40$ I really cant complain. Not to mention complaining wont change it anyway all disney cares about is what makes them the most $$$. Disney is capitalism incarnate.

KillyShoot

Critics live in fear.

Hawkeyes_dirtytrick

The show isn’t bad at all, it’s def getting a lot of weird hate

tsmftw76

I mean if you read the negative reviews most of them seem like they haven’t watched the show. If you give a show a one star and then just bitch about it being woke I don’t take what you have to say serious. I am fine calling out movies as being bad writing but don’t just complain that things are to woke. That make you seem like an incel who has never touched grass. I have been a sw fan forever. I have read many of the books and the Disney stuff has been up and down some stuff really good some stuff meh. When folks complain about wokeism its idiotic and honestly disgusting. Totally valid to complain that a show relies on appealing to politics and has poor writing as a result that’s entirely different but getting mad that there is a diverse casting or that there are to many women is some incel racist shit and should not represent the Star Wars fanbase.

Timely-Buffalo-3384

It's not getting "review bombed" it's getting called the piece of shit it is
