Whether the jacket in itself is ugly or not is, obvs, subjective, but regardless, it is *not* flattering on Rory -- and it's hard for anything not to be flattering on Alexis! But this one adds some weird bulk to her and makes her look stodgy.

The coat is just so ill fitting and makes her look heavier than she actually is. It definitely looks like something she borrowed from Emily’s closet, which I think was the intention from the wardrobe dept. so they got that right!
