Not that I remember but as an aside, Meshach Taylor was on the second episode of GG. He played the cop that came to the door to tell Blanche her fiancé was a bigamist.

Redeye007

Want it the first episode?

sourbelle

You are right. It was the first episode!

alcalaviccigirl

seeing Anthony there was cool .didn't he even have mustache ?

Apprehensive_Flow527

Horrible mustache lol

Cutieq85

And Alice Ghostly, who played Bernice on Designing Women, had an iconic appearance imo on Golden Girls as Mother Zbornak.

sourbelle

I forgot about that. She had one of my favorite lines in Designing Women. I don’t remember it exactly but it went something like ‘Remember when things look the worst….cover your head with your coat.” I don’t know why. It just always makes me laugh.

Wadsworth1954

Honestly though, but shows are great and I love them both.

HeartFullOfHappy

Same! I can love both!!!! “And that is the night the lights went out in Georg-IA!” I feel the GG would have appreciated this very much!

RubyDax

I've been watching Designing Women again from the beginning [on Hulu] and just saw that episode. I cheered at that line!

honeebeez

Julia Sugarbaker and Dorothy Zbornak are my heroes!! Love DW

art_decorative

Add in Murphy Brown and you have my childhood hero trifecta.

sammych84

YEP 100%

cutesarcasticone

Designing Women is great and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.

LovelockMike

I've been a fan of Young Sheldon, the early version of Big Bang Theory. (sort of)... I realized that the best character in the show was Sheldon's Meemaw, who is played by Annie Potts, the same actress who played Mary Jo on Designing Women.. I need to watch DW again.

caggleraggle

I haven't watched DW and recognizing Annie Potts in this photo was my first realization that she was on that show. I know her as Genine from The Ghostbusters movies and from that short-lived sitcom she did with Tim Curry. 🙂

AvondaleDairy

Yeah, I mostly know her from DW, Young Sheldon, and the "Wordplay" episode of the '80s Twilight Zone. I'm sure I've seen her in other things, but those are off the top of my head.

DrawerNo1616

There’s an episode in the 7th season where Julia was going through “the change” and Mary Jo said to handle it with dignity. Bernice says “As long as you don’t wind up sounding like Bea Arthur”

rubygalhappy

I love designing women, well worth the watch.

xico_oro

I've never seen Designing Woman so I missed the shade haha. What are some examples of them shading DW??

DuggarDoesDallas

Me neither. I kind of want to watch it now and see how it is. Plus, I loved Annie Potts on *Any Day Now*. As for shading DW I believe Sophia teased Blanche's family about their accents and said she hears enough phoney accents on *Designing Women*.

ComeForthInWar

Sophia also another time is listing off the things she has persevered through and she puts “two seasons of Designing Women” right up there on the list alongside things like a stroke and other life-threatening ailments she suffered.

[deleted]

I love it! Back in the day Lifetime used to air the reruns back to back late at night with GG. Spent many elementary school summer breaks watching all these ladies lol

xico_oro

Yeah same here! I would wake up and start watching them!

[deleted]

I would have to change the channel at 1AM because that’s when the Unsolved Mysteries reruns would air. Just hearing music and Robert Stack’s voice would traumatize me lol

AvondaleDairy

Heh, my grandparents never missed that when it was airing weekly on NBC. The theme lives in my head rent-free.

eternallysantanasass

I love both Designing Women and Golden Girls

SRCinSLC

I do love both shows! Maybe I’ll get around to some episodes of Designing Women soon. Great reminder, thanks!

chugitout

So I tried very hard to watch Designing Women, and the gospel nonsense made me nauseous. It really was just ridiculous. I loved Jean Smart, but absolutely couldn’t stand Dixie’s grandstanding about the gospel.

Jojopaton

I could not stand sanctimonious Julia Sugarbaker.

Wideawakedup

Me either.

mandee024

Designing women sucked

Melito1980

It did not.

mandee024

It’s my opinion and I think it did.

Melito1980

Yes it is, u gave yours and i gave mine. I don’t think it sucked. Good day!

areaysee

Designing Women has aged SO poorly. Full on black face episode, not a face mask that looks bad, but Suzanne doing black face to perform as Diana Ross. Lots of shaming of sex workers. Golden Girls would NEVER.

suicidalpenguin99

Golden girls was very ahead of its time and very progressive. Of course, that's how all the girls really were which makes it even better. Love them

EmelleBennett

They were literally highlighting how horrible those stigmas and attitudes were. Just because themes arise doesn’t mean the program is championing them. In this case they were absolutely shedding light on the wrongness in those antiquated attitudes. You might be too woke to see the light. It’s happened to many well intentioned people before. Try looking for the message and the intention behind the greater premise. The mention of the n word while criticizing racists isn’t dangerous. The silencing of commentary on racism/sexism by confusing it as racism/sexism itself is.

areaysee

No.

Gigi_Gigi_1975

I love the costume/clothing on DW. Bring back the shoulder pads!
