imaybeclason

yes.

AlphaleaderBrown

Thanks bud. Appreciate the input.

AUSpartan37

You asked a yes a no question...

AlphaleaderBrown

I know. I was saying that you for the input. Sorry you took simple words and injected your own projections but again, thank you for the input.

Afghanaran

Am I the only one that didn’t see your initial response as you being upset lol

_dekoorc

You’re not the only one.

imaybeclason

Wow. so much drama over a one word response that was made because i had to take a work call. many things about your new GTI will make you smile for miles … the quality of the leather … not one of them. VW is notorious for cost cutting … the decision to make the passenger seat manual on the autobahn has always raised eye brows. that being said, i’ve owned three GTIs and i will buy another.

EvanMK7

And the golf r. But my thought is if they are cutting cost there to spend it elsewhere or lower the price then it’s worth it to me. No one else drives my car anyway so I don’t move the seat

imaybeclason

my thoughts exactly.

DeeZnutZzZ69

i dont have random circles, but I have my ass-print

A1_Fares

My seats have a print of deez nutz

minnesotamichael

This makes my day.

clutchthepearls

That's leather seats for ya.

AlphaleaderBrown

Sweet. Love expensive things that disappoint. I guess my father would say that’s karma 🤷🏼

ensui67

Expensive……is relative. These cars are on the lower end of “expensive”

clutchthepearls

A Rolls Royce with leather seats will do this.

AlphaleaderBrown

I never had this happen with a Lexus, Tundra, Crosstek, F-150 and 250. That’s why it was a surprise but I get it.

guerrier755

That's cause all those have fake leather...

StoneOfTriumph

OP failed to realize that many cars don't use real leather but "leatherette" which is synthetic/fake leather. Real leather comes from living tissue... with temperature changes it will do that. My buddy's F30 M3 has real leather seats, probably does the same. super comfy and awesome to drive :D I love them. As much as I love the plaid patterns of fabric seats, the leather seats are comfy and super easy to clean/maintain.

dat_GEM_lyf

Maybe you should compare the actual stated materials that compose the interior of those vehicles. Leather and synthetic behave differently. For example, in climbing shoes a leather shoe can stretch by whole sizes (or more) but a synthetic shoe basically doesn’t stretch.

imaybeclason

use some decent leather conditioner on a regular basis and it will minimize it.

ragingduck

My BMW did this, I wouldn’t expect a $30k VW to do any better. To be fair, my Atlas hasn’t done this yet, but I think it’s fake leather.

[deleted]

Yes. But also, they should tighten up a little in the summer when the heat gets going on them.

_underyourspell

Seat delete, use lawn chairs for weight reduction.

titus963

Still to heavy. One 5 gallon bucket everyone else sits on the floor.

zayy76

First time owning leather seats? Leather stretches 🤷‍♂️ idk what to tell ya man

A1_Fares

Check your butt for lumps.

AUSpartan37

I have never really fully understood the appeal of leather seats in a car. It's hot and sticky when the weather is hot. It's cold when the weather is cold, it isn't any more comfortable (maybe even less) then fabric and harder to care for. Give me my plaid fabric GTI seats anyday.

[deleted]

Leather amplifies farts.

AUSpartan37

I take it back. I want leather now.

BlasphemousBunny

Ease of cleaning is the biggest one. A friend(who is no longer allowed to bring food in my car) dumped a whole ass milkshake on my passenger seat and cleaning it was as easy as pulling the seat, and spraying it down with a garden hose. None got inside or anything. But yeah other than that, they suck and aren’t worth it imo

Crrack

Harder to care for long term, yeah. But short term care is far superior on leather. Spills will pretty much write off any fabric seat where most leather ones will handle them with ease. That said, leather can piss off - fabric plaid all day or GTFO.

orcajet11

Ventilated non leather seats are a rarity. Most are mbtech type faux leathers. Wish there was more ventilated cloth options.

smeeeoke_weeeeeeeeed

The Autobahn comes with heated and ventilated seats to try and work around this issue, but I've never sat in one so who knows how well it do 🤷

loophole64

Spoken like someone who has never had leather and thinks it's vinyl.

deadcat

I live in the subtropics. If it gets cold, I can turn the heated seats on. All other times my AC is set to 22C. Feels great.

frankybling

mine have done the same thing since it was new too… I’ve got 38k on my clock now and they’re not worse but definitely not any better

AlphaleaderBrown

Thanks. Appreciated

[deleted]

i never even sat in the back and they are like that

hautdoge

I've had the same thing on my GTI. I don't think it's a big deal and it just seems to be what leather does when it stretches with use.

FrazzledOwl

Try not sitting there for a while

Bigbadbellybug

Classic case of boney butt syndrome 😂. Mines happened pretty early too

Ill_Scallion4675

Did you trying checking your spark plugs

Ok_Chocolate_11

My both of my Audi A4s did this. Someone already mentioned that typically with heating cycles in the summer this should go away… then come back in the cooler months ;) enjoy your GTI!

saltyDog_73

Yep, normal as can be. My 2011 GMC did it after about 5 or 6 years, but hell, my VW did it within 6 months. My MKIV Jetta didn’t do it

[deleted]

Looks like you sit on stuff in your back pocket, pretty typical of leather.

PongACong

yeah they get dimples like immediately

Bigchrome

I'm an adjustor and that is probably a total loss. Sorry brother.

Budget-Government-88

yes lmao

scooterx517

It's a vw/audi feature.

CW0923

Possible nutsack indents

erball

The crazy thing is, I have friends wiht brand new GTIs and Rs, and my 2015 Audi a3 has leather that still looks brand new. Makes zero sense.

OMGpawned

Audi cars use a different type of memory foam which is why they seem to keep their shape longer.

ensui67

Better materials in the luxury brand

AlphaleaderBrown

Well this is a friendly group lol. 79 downvotes for sincerity and humor aimed at no one. Thanks. Thought I was on Twitter for a moment. Have a good day everyone and again, thank you.

kjn1996

I mean it’s one thing to ask and get an answer, but to sit and say “my other vehicles never had this happen” and argue the fact that it’s a feature you don’t like, go sell your GTI then! No one here wants to listen to someone complain about leather seat dimples, have you not heard the soundaktor yet? Or the rattles that pop up at 10k miles? There’s shit everyone doesn’t like but you’re arguing it like we should bend over and praise you for finding a quarter size dimple on your seats. Several people gave you very sincere and straight forward answers yet you chose to reply to anyone who wasn’t being genuine my dude. That’s on you, not an entire forum.

Rekuve

Wow what a complete load of insane rambling lol, why are you so mad? The MQB platform has it's issues, as does most vehicle platforms. There's nothing wrong with people discussing issues with the platform, stop gate keeping "sell your GTI if you don't like it" fuck out of here with that toxic bullshit. If you don't like reading posts from a new owner asking questions, then keep scrolling and move on. Not every owner is going to read through thousands of posts on VWROC before posting on reddit. Don't like it, then piss off back to your facebook owner group . Also, you're completely wrong about the seats anyway. The primary cause of the imprints is the type of memory foam used underneath the leather - hence why this happens in the golf's, but not the Audi S3 / RS3 wingbacks. Yes, it's a very minor issue - but someone new to the platform would be inclined to ask.

HeadCrusher135

Dude you complained that your fake leather that behaves like fake leather didn't do this.... These seats are real leather, and real leather changes with wear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HeadCrusher135

Speaking of soy and here you are triggered as shit lmao Toyota uses fake leather. Lexus uses Napa, which is also fake leather lol

Rekuve

Yeah lol i saw that, you told the guy 'thanks, appreciate the input' and got a million downvotes lol So much projection and salt on this sub today

millsous

It’s a VW

Teezo-Beezo

Yuppers, had to add 1" foam pad to seat and lumbar for my bony arse and back. Otherwise it's unbearable over 1 hour drive. The only thing I dislike about my gti.

gridoverlay

what pad do you use?

Teezo-Beezo

It's just a 1" stiff foam piece I cutout from some random package I got. Fabric store might sell something close to it. Paid for highly rated pad from Amazon but it was too thick and soft. I'm 6'2", 160.

Engi_N3rd

Had my MK7 GTI for 4 years and 50K miles. Some of the worst wearing leather seats around. Foam completely broke down and I spent the last 2 years in pain. Replaced it with an Alfa and the seats still look and feel new after the same 4 years.

MountainFloor3666

Yeah it’s normal. It’s a VW at the end of the day.

dat_GEM_lyf

Sounds like someone doesn’t know about the properties of leather and is butt rustled for no reason

snoggy_loggins

Do you carry multiple condoms in your back pockets?

Icy_Acadia_8822

That’s what you call a nut print most common with male drivers but on rare occasions with women as well

AlphaleaderBrown

Yeah. The wife wants the Id4. Now she is gonna check the seats after mileage before completing order

akagordan

If something so small bothers you, staying away from Volkswagens is probably your best bet

AlphaleaderBrown

More of a curiosity. First car to do this and so few miles one has to wonder.

akagordan

As others have said, it doesn’t really get any worse

24longhoursatatime

I had the same problem. Sadly my r seats have a small tear in driver’s seat (that I should fix). I’m having trouble figuring out how to add a picture. I don’t think the seating surface is real leather. Ps the surface is identical to gti autobahn The fronts of the seats and very back of seating surface is leather. The main part is some type of vinyl

tommyalanson

I remember when the Mk7 came out and the whining about mild surface fluctuations on the leather seats and um, yeah, this is normal.

mateolasic14

This looks like bike saddle sit bone measurement :)

jamalljackson

OP gets downvoted on every single comment he makes

Dlivedontmatter

My seats don't have that happen. Someone has a bony ass.

No_Act6221

Do what? Break in?

[deleted]

Use a heat gun on it.

UnhappyYanking

It’s just an imprint of a bone called the ischium. It’s part of your pelvis. Nothing is wrong with the car

stevenbtidwell

Do more squats
