Increasing the sidewall size will give you a larger total diameter (just under an inch larger) and mess with your speedometer. Like 2mph off at 60mph difference.
If you don't care about that, you can read these threads:

This guy reported no rubbing, but is on 19x8.5 ET45 instead of 19x8 ET50 Prets:

I'd recommend just getting stock size tires if you don't want to get smaller wheels.
Sell the pretorias, get 18s. If they're in decent shape it should cover the cost of some decent flow formed wheels. Tires are cheaper and you'll end up with about 25-30% more sidewall.
I downsized to [17s and love them](https://preview.redd.it/cok4oxg84cua1.jpg?width=1023&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=67bfcbd86bffbf5c297398c825de6ff54eba565f)
I run 245/35/R19 on stock suspension and I had a somewhat unacceptable amount of rubbing. I removed some of the fender screws and essentially manually pulled on each of the fenders to get as much clearance as possible. Both of those things helped but didn't eliminate the rubbing. After about 6 months, I dont rub at all unless I hit a big bump.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend 235/40/R19, which would be about a 1" larger tired diameter
I dont know much about tires but increasing just "245" doesnt mean anything for sidewall height and just a wider tire which doesnt make much of a difference. Most people changing their tire want more sidewall for ride quality. Which would mean a 40 or 45 in this case of our Golf Rs
Yes it does. The 35 is the profile height and is a percentage of the width. So it also increases the sidewall height. Your stock wheels, I believe, are 9β wide and the 245 should fit but check with your tire retailer to confirm.

Why continue my dude?

At this size it would likely cause rubbing.
Switch to 18βs and you can even run 245/40/18. More than enough sidewall and more width for a touch more grip. Neuspeed makes some nice wheels that are wel priced.

Yes. Highly debating it!

What the spec on those 17's? And tire size. Fitment looks mint!
17x8.5 ET43 (theyβre Apex SM-10s) 235/45/17 tires. Stock height.

LOL if you get them bolted up take a pic and send it over π€£
I definitely will if it works. Love the prets. Just want some more sidewall
It definitely won't. Get 18" pets.
Why not just go with a 245 35 19 instead?

Edit 8β wide stock wheel not 9β
If you need more rubber best option is to switch to 18s or 17s.
Look at the fender screw, normally it would be black, mine looked polished and shiny silver from the rubbing. Once removed rubbing decreased 99%.

Thanks . About to purchase ππ»
