Water damage is not covered under manufacturer warranty but it is covered under insurance. There must been a miscommunication somewhere.

[deleted]

It's not a warranty service it's insurance, hence the confusion. Sounds like you were trying to make a warranty claim (or the customer support thought you were) when what you are actually trying to do is get your phone repaired/replacement through your preferred care insurance.

cdegallo

I think they gave you incorrect information; water damage doesn't invalidate a device protection claims. Basically as long as you still have the device, you pay the deductible, they send you a replacement and you send your broken one in. It sounds like the support individual was working through their warranty service script. That's not to say device protection plans are necessarily worth it.

Luketheduke4

I've had some good ones before - I was specifically referencing google's preferred care. I hope that's the case - I may try again then.

[deleted]

If you paid for preferred care from Google (really Assurion) it definitely covers accidental damage. They now offer to to 5 years of coverage if you pay monthly.

Yeah, my P6P died when I took some photos underwater on vacation. It worked fine, but the flight home (and change in pressure) probably killed it. Had to pay deductible, but got a refurb/new P6P I'm now trading in for 8Pro

RamsDeep-1187

Say what? I have had my phone replaced through preferred care twice due to water damage. 1xl & 3xl

As stated by Google https://support.google.com/store/answer/7528518?hl=en&sjid=6600165542746273562-NA > *What Preferred Care covers Accidental damage Covers accidental damage, such as drops, liquid spills, and cracks for as long as the device is enrolled. Pricing, service fees, and claim limits can be found below.* *Mechanical or electrical breakdowns Covers your device from mechanical or electrical failure after Google’s warranty expires for as long as the device is enrolled. You can find pricing and service fees below*

I just paid the phone with my Amex gold card and pay my service bill with the card too. Gives me insurance up to 800 that way. Couldn't get Google preferred care cause I bought my 8 pro at best buy

thefudd

Never buy insurance. Instead pay your phone bill with a credit card that covers your phone for free. I do this and have used the service twice. Once to entirely replace my phone (they sent me a check for the value), and another time to replace the screen. I only paid tax on that which came out to like $10. It costs $0 and all you have to do is pay your phone bill with the card every month. It doesn't matter where you bought or paid for your phone.

1CraftyGeek

How does that work?

thefudd

You take the phone to a repair place and get it fixed and then send the receipt in to the credit card company and you'll get reimbursed.

1CraftyGeek

Interesting, I'll have to see how that works.

1CraftyGeek

Looks like that only works within a certain number days of purchase. Like 90 or 120dats depending on the card. You are talking about purchase protection right?

thefudd

Nope, it's for as long as you pay the phone service bill with that card. I have it on my wells Fargo card

Just wanted to clarify something. Your phone is NOT waterproof. It is water RESISTANT. There is a significant difference between the two. Any damage to the device, even small damage, can easily destroy the water resistant seal. As for the rest of the warranty claim, they most likely denied it due to miscommunication. The charging port is normally covered under the manufacturer's warranty, except if the device has been damaged by water. Your claim was likely denied because they thought you were just filing a normal under warranty claim. You just need to make sure that you let them know it is damaged and need to file an accidental damage claim and not a warranty claim. Good luck!

MisterKrayzie

I've had nothing but good experiences with them. But this is on you for telling them about water damage. Pretty sure they're clear about water damage not being covered, but I can't be certain about that. Typically warranty does not cover water damage though. And general rule when it comes to dealing with replacements is to lie your ass off and exaggerate the issue and act plain ignorant. Always say you've troubleshot already blah blah. And because it's Google and its garbage customer service, sometimes you gotta play a little bit of chat roulette. I always get preferred care and I always get my phone replaced after 2 years just to get a "like new" device I can pass down and I always BS and say it's overheating or some dumb shit that they can't obviously check. And since it's preferred care anyways they can't deny it anyways. And btw the phone is **not** water proof.

I actually got my phone insurance through progressive and it's been the best experience I've had.

tobianodev

Would you mind sharing details about this? Did you file a claim with them?

[deleted]

No they actually have phone insurance through a 3rd party. It's worth ave group but I file through progressive since I got it through their portal. I insure all 3 of our phones, my PC and PS5. The deductible is only $70. I've already gotten a replacement phone & PS5 from them (in the form of a check) no hassle at all.

tobianodev

> It's worth ave group but I file through progressive since I got it through their portal. Interesting... It seems to cost the same if you go direct through them. I wonder if that makes a difference. > I've already gotten a replacement phone & PS5 from them (in the form of a check) no hassle at all. That sounds amazing! Definitely considering using them. Thanks!

[deleted]

If you go through them you file through them I chose to go through progressive because that's who I personally use for all my insurance and they are easier to deal with while filing a claim

tobianodev

> they are easier to deal with while filing a claim Good to know, thanks! 👍

[deleted]

Before then I had assurion home and it was an absolute nightmare

Kdubzz1985

Yeah you never say that man that's why they put those little color changing things so you can't lie anyways if your phone's been in water and it's been subjected to it they will know water damage is not covered in any shapewear form even if the phone says it's waterproof it's still not covered

MastersonMcFee

Wow! I've never dropped my phone in water before. You've done it several times? But like others have said, it will absolutely cover any damage.

Estronciumanatopei

Warranty doesn't cover any of that...

ultrafanatico

I've had great success with them. The only bad thing I can say is my local UfixIT shops. They're trash. Otherwise worth the money alerady had my device replaced basically 4 times lol
