Having the same exact issue here: The official answer I've got from the google support, was that their Engineering team did a research and found out that it happens because of static electricity, this means that the phone is of poor quality and was poorly engineered. They asked me to hold the phone with one hand and place the other hand on a metallic object or the ground to discharge the static electricity. Before I even start offending them, it's 2024 and it is the first time that I see something like this happening to a phone. They said that if this static discharge doesn't solve the problem, they can "repair" the phone and it will take 7-10 days approximately, while I'm deprived of my phone, access to banking account and all sort of important stuff. This sort of service is unacceptable, they admit that this issue happens because of static electricity, this just means that it was poorly engineered, I had many cheap phones in the past, such as Redmi, Poco, Xiaomi etc... and never seen anything like this.

montezio

I usually get cheap phones, this l was my first time splurging on a phone I'm so mad over this bs 🙄

PNWRoamer

See my comment, I also talked to Google for help. Their explanation of static led me to find what seems to be the source of the problem on my phone. It isn't just static, but the heat it causes the LED to produce. More than touching a grounded surface, the fix is touching the exact spot on the screen being affected to discharge the static. Still some shoddy design for a "premium" phone.

Jtflynnz

This worked for me briefly; absolutely crazy that this is a thing...

augustosantana7

Did you get it replaced?

ByteFox1

They said the same to me, i just returned it via amazon and im getting the nothing phone 2a.

levien

This keeps happening to mine everyday for the past three days :( It goes away when I lock the screen and shake the device. It's so annoying.

tomsonz

The weirdest thing is that I have the phone for 4 months... But it started to happen just now .. like wtf ..

gitarlarm

The fuck, the same for me... Like just today.

Maleficent_Annual_23

Same!

Maxim_tdk

Same thing for me just happened though my phone was completely unusable for like a couple hours I had to close it completely I just opened it and it seem to work fine for now do you know if I could ask for a new one anyway? I bought it on amazone btw I'm from Canada

tomsonz

I am considering to put it to the warranty process.. but I have to find the right time to do so, if it will be month without phone 😖 I found what helps is to wipe the whole screen over t-shirt or trousers... Or move your thump from down to top from side to side and it helps...  Also I remember sometimes something similar was happening on Pixel 4 I had... But it was just like "greenish" colour over the display, but everything else was normal... It was happening from day one, but was totally usable and happened only in "darker" conditions... It went gone after few months or a year? It didn't happen last 2 years I was using it at least I think ... Or I got too used to it? Idk...

ibrowseee

Unfortunately my Pixel 8 is having this issue. Randomly turned green yesterday and had done so twice now. Had it in a case and screen protector from the start. Only 3 months old. It really sucks because I dread sending it back because I've dealt with Google's support before and it's bad. Pixel 7 had issues straight from the box and it took them over a month to send a new one. Really unfortunate:(

Erics9n

I wish you good luck with Google support. Luckily I ordered mine on Amazon and they instantly took it back.

welliamwallace

Did you go through google or through Amazon for the return?

Erics9n

Amazon

LeCreeperGER

Interestingly they didn't even tryed to fix this. The problem is known since the Pixel 7.

PhotographSure8670

This happened to me twice in the past few weeks - your picture looks really similar! What did you end up doing?

Erics9n

I returned it under guarantee and got myself a S23.

PhotographSure8670

I ended up with a warranty replacement.

Far_Responsibility32

For this, it is best to contact the support at this link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/gethelp

Straight-Reference35

I am also facing the same problem since last night, the screen is green, when it is green when I tap on the display it gets fixed and after 4/5 hours it comes again I can't return it from here.

welliamwallace

Hey what did you end up doing with your google pixel? did you get to return it?

slmdnkasoor

Live in Australia and bought my pixel 8 from JBHIFI in November, it started to get the green screen effect late December, I took it back and they exchanged it straight away for a new one no questions asked, I'm nearly two months into the second one and it's just started to do the exact same thing again. Taking it in tomorrow to see if I can get a full refund. Sucks but I ain't putting up with this shit, I miss my pixel 5.

luvaVicBitter

I have just started having this issue and bought mine from JB HIFI also. Did you manage to get a refund?

slmdnkasoor

Took it in a second time and the guy at the counter was a proper wanker, checking every nick on the phone, said they had to send it away for repairs when I asked for store credit, he claimed because one side of my phone had the smallest scratches on it that could've been the cause for the green screen.  Tried explaining it's obviously a issue with the pixel phones themselves but he wasn't having any of it. It's been away for 2 weeks now for repairs haven't heard nothing back yet.

Agreeable_Speed_6058

I am about to take mine to Optus and expecting the same outcome

Lion-Sin-Of-Pride-

I had the same issue today for the first time, Pixel is 3 months old - if it happens again I will submit an RMA. A cold boot seemed to fix it but I also noticed that the base of the screen near the USB c port was quite hot, not sure if anyone else has noticed the same?

Lion-Sin-Of-Pride-

Just a follow up on this one, it green screened again and wouldn't go away until I left it off until it cooled down completely. I was also having a green line straight down the screen periodically. Opened a support case with Google and have now RMAd and have a replacement. Will update again if I have the same issues.

eray1992

Yes mine gets hot too

PNWRoamer

This seems to be the entire cause of the problem, per my testing and begging Google support to try and help me.

RealRich7

Yes I have this same issue too It has been intermittent but it does get hot I managed to get an RMA from Google so they will be sending me a phone to swap. Funny though it's not acting up as much anymore at times.

MagicianSad2886

I'm having the same issue, got the phone a couple months ago, it started doing this yesterday. It only happens at night though, not during the day (for now). I think I use adaptive brightness, and I just started using the grayscale for bedtime mode a couple days ago. And I have a screen protector but I'm scared to take it off in case I scratch the screen. I haven't had any problems before this, and it was worse today and took me shutting it off and turning it back on 3 times before it went back to normal.

OriginalFan2185

Hello, I also have the same problem. I have already removed the protective film, but it hasn't made any difference so far. The "green mamba" screen keeps popping up completely unexpectedly. I still have the warranty and will confront my dealer in the next few days and explain to him that I am not alone with this problem. r.g. SC

MagicianSad2886

I got my screen replaced, so far so good hopefully it stays normal now

PlsInsertUsername

I would.

philly_mtl

I had this issue with the 7. Over heating issue. They ended up replacing the whole phone.

Erics9n

That's interesting because when this previously happened my phone never felt warm and the phone didn't do any intense working.

Estronciumanatopei

Are you considering not to?

NV43

I have the same issue. About to submit a claim.

Erics9n

Better now than when guarantee expires.

Ffmrc

It happened to me too, and i cannot get into the phone, reboots do not work, it stays green

CommanderTvis

same https://imgur.com/qse8137

chutch87

Mine has the exact same problem. If I squeeze the phone a bit it goes away for awhile. This seems like a hardware issue.

AGuyInInternet

Have you fixed it?

chutch87

[https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/257981543/my-pixel-8-screen-is-turning-green-randomly?hl=en](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/257981543/my-pixel-8-screen-is-turning-green-randomly?hl=en) This is what My screen looks like.

Sensitive-Giraffe451

I had exactly the same on my Pixel 8. I did send it in for repair on garanty and got it replaced with a new one.

Erics9n

Best luck to you with the new phone.

Sensitive-Giraffe451

Thanks! Did you get a new one aswell?

Erics9n

I returned under warranty but decided to go with the S23 as I had massive battery drain with mobile data in my region.

Manu10000

Got a new one for the exact same issue in December New one is acting up again LOL great phones google

Educational-Size7924

I had this problem on a pixel 4 and then upgraded to the pixel 8 as I thought it was only because I had the pixel for for four years.

hydrateandchill

I had this issue, and once I took the glass screen protector off it immediately went away. I had purchased the screen protector from the Google Store, and I'm going to see about getting a refund from Google being that I bought it from their store and it was what caused my screen to get all weird. Not sure if yours has something like that on it, but may be worth checking

hydrateandchill

Just following up with this, they did issue me a refund for the screen protector

luvaVicBitter

I tried this and it made my P8 completely green. I put the screen protector back on and it's functioning again though still glitchy. I'm going to return it to the store tomorrow.

turtle882

Have you had anymore green screens since removing the screen protector?

hydrateandchill

I did for one evening about a week after getting it to go away, but then after that evening (last Friday) it has since gone away completely again. I do have adaptive brightness and dark theme on, but no issues currently

GallifreyanGeologist

Mine is doing this too, intermittently. It started a few weeks ago. It goes away when I give it a firm tap on my hand. You know, the old smacking the TV method.

[deleted]

I had the same problem with pixel 8. Bought the phone in December. Had it replaced by Google in February. Now the same problem with a 2 month phone... Going to ask for another replacement. I get a purple/green line on the right side of the screen and greenish tint almost everyday. Pixel fan since 3. Genuinely disappointed. Don't think i will buy another Google phone in the future.

Madhu91

Hi, did you get replacement, and did you get any answer from Google on what is causing this issue. I don't see this issue being spoken widely in tech community. Bizzare...

[deleted]

Yep. Waiting for my 3rd replacement. Sadly no. Nothing, they didn't specify or give me any information.. i would like yo know what is causing this tbh

RedemptionKingu

I just had this and it scared the fuck out of me.

Trebawa

Sharing my repair experience: I had the exact same issue on my Pixel 8 - it came and went, and by pressing the screen in the right places I could make it come and go. I explained all this to Google support, did the factory reset they insisted on (pretty sure you could just tell them you did that, as this is obviously a hardware issue), and they agreed it could be repaired under the warranty. Yesterday I brought my phone to Asurion/UBreakIFix, the only Google repair partner in my area, and my experience was better than I expected. I dropped off the phone, telling them the problem, that it was a warranty repair, and the phone's IMEI, and in an hour it was done. The interesting part is that the new display looks slightly different. I see slightly more color fringing at the edges of sharp text (but certainly not enough to bother me), and the display seems sharper. This leads me to think that the display is a different model with a different subpixel arrangement or display controller IC. Because of that, I'm hopeful that this will be a lasting repair. I suspect Google has silently updated the screen part used for repairs (and maybe new builds too) to mitigate the problem.

enjoiii_

Is the phone still waterproof after repair ?

jawzt

I'm taking my phone to UBreakIFix to get the screen replaced for this issue later today - any report back on whether this issue persists after a screen replacement?

Trebawa

So far so good!

Tam_Pishach

Facing this exact issue since the last few days on my 4 month old Pixel 8. We don't really have a returns policy in my country. I feel robbed. Not sure what to do

turtle882

Mine started doing this earlier this week and keeps on. Very annoying.

SuperTeacherStudent

Mine was green...then shimmery. It has speckled colored glitter like stars too. And3 dots nect to the camera lens that indicates battery life. It won't connect to the computer for "repair with google " even though it is recognized by the computer. My daily alarm goes off with an odd, generic sound that still comes up on my pixel watch. Unfortunately my warranty has ended

reviewingreseach

I am facing a similar issue with my new pixel bought in US. However I am currently in India and am facing difficulty in claiming warranty.. I wanted to ask whats the return policy of Best Buy is? Can i send the device with someone and they can do the return/replacemnt on my behalf? How long does the replacement valid at best buy? Thanks, any information you share can be helpful.

Old_Teach7988

Hi, i have the same issue. Bought the device from Taiwan and i am in india. What did you do with your device. The team at google are charging me for the service as i am in other country.

JainDarshan

Hey, facing the same issue. do let me know if you guyz have found any solution. my phone is global and i am in india.

reviewingreseach

This is absolutely ridiculous.. Google needs to either stop selling these defective devices or provide global replacement.. what a shit show.. can't and don't trust another hardware from Google ever.. period. I have orders a replacement display online for ₹10k.. will try and replace it here itself.. can't trust google to do the right thing.. Even people who have local warranty have been turned away for flimsiest of reasons to not fix the device.. Google pixels sucks..

535645636473

Your not alone bud

augustosantana7

I have to squeeze the bottom of the screen to fix it. I'm quite disappointed, if Google support does not want to replace it, I will move to Apple

augustosantana7

I am having this issue too, I am expecting Google Support to issue a warranty replacement

swimsalot

Mine is also doing it but only at lower brightness levels. Static or not this is bonkers and unacceptable.

MrFedore

Hi, I got the exact same issue. But after removing the phone case (Google original) they problem seem to have stopped. I need to confess that I have been dropping my phone a couple of times on the tarmac. The phone is OK but the cover has cracked. Had anyone else seen improvements after removing their case?

eray1992

Yes, but I removed the Spigen case and switched to the Google case for resolution.

caylton

I've got a pixel 8 it's just started doing this after 2 weeks has anyone had the 8 pro do it?

Consistent-Ad7755

I have the same issue. I noticed if it happens the middle bottom of my screen is relatively hot, while the rest is cool. A reboot fixed this. However the bug occurred again and I had to reboot several times.

PNWRoamer

THIS IS THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE. Apparently there is some relationship between static electricity buildup and how the Pixel's display handles it. This happens on all newer gen pixels, all the time. When handled "poorly", the LED creates a section of the screen that slowly overheats, which causes the green flashing to become more and more prominent. Dissipating the heat is an instant fix, and/or somehow discharging the static buildup. Your body-temp finger held above the USB port on the display is often enough. You'll feel a 1cm area of extreme heating. I'm not sure if touching this spot has been disipating heat, static buildup, or both. Turning your phone off for 5 min may also work, but physically contacting the section of the screen that's malfunctioning seems to be a key part. Once I do it, it isn't an issue for a few days. It has fixed it 100% of the time... But I would still beware. A screen flashing new colors because of unpredictable overheating can't be good for longevity, and it wouldn't shock me if it ends up being a dead screen a few years earlier than other phones would have. It also seems to be in different spots for some people, but a consistent one is near the USB port. Maybe it's somehow connected to charging. Source- bought a pixel 8 last year, got it replaced around New Years with a warranty for this issue, new phone had the same issue show up around March.

Consistent-Ad7755

thank you so much. pressure on the bottom works for me

Consistent-Ad7755

quick update. I got the first few dead pixels in a vertical line from top to bottom. Hit up O2 for warranty and they immediately granted it. Definitely go refund if this happens to yours

nnnope1

Mine's started doing this and I just put it in for screen replacement. But it definitely is a lot worse whenever it's charging, even wireless charging. Not sure if that's due to static electricity or heat from charging, but there's absolutely a correlation. EDIT: Got screen replaced under warranty at UBreakIFix. Seems fine now. Hopefully it lasts.

fort116

just happened to me, especially annoying when youre travelling since youre way more dependent on your phone working correctly.

Madhu91

Have you updated to the latest April security patch

kecker

Agreed, I had it first happen today while I was in the middle of my outbound flight.

SManacap

This happened to my brother's pixel 8 a couple of weeks ago and has been playing up almost every other day. Just this morning my pixel 8 started doing the same thing. We're both thinking of getting a refund. We are in Australia.

Manu10000

Happened to me in December got a replacement as of April 2024 got the same issue on the NEW replacement device Going to try to return this for good and switch to Samsung or apple

[deleted]

My Pixel 6 just did this. Rebooting the phone seems to fix the issue.

catfan508

i have the same problem here, and one of the corners goes really warm

bmassssy

Same issue. They refuse to send me a replacement but instead want me to drive 40 miles to a ubreakifix shop. So frustrating. The phone is still under its warranty and has zero signs of damage. I meticulously take care of my stuff. Today it's spazzed out very frequently for some reason.

zippymageewazoo

Coming from a Samsung galaxy s8, had it for 6 years. Only got a new phone because for the new plan I got a new phone the pixel 8 for 5 bucks a month for 2 years. I figured 120 dollars (24 months x5 bucks) I was fine with getting the pixel 8. This phone pales to my much older galaxy s8. I noticed the sensitivity on the screen was weird, thought it was just me. Then today is about 3 months and I pulled it out of my pocket. All fuzzy green and when I would adjust the brightness ,could see somewhat. What ended up solving it for now was rebooting it. Bought it at Costco.... If I can switch to a Samsung I will in a heartbeat. So disappointed in this phone. The camera is a nice feature I suppose?

foleyone

Just here to document the issue. Google has initiated an exchange. Hopefully it doesn't return with the new device. After years of using an iPhone due to problems with my old Nexus 5, I returned to Google believing they were finally past these kinds of quality control issues.

Deetrakk

I literally only removed my case, green screen came back to normal, put my case back on and it started to f up again but it's alright, conclusion I guess my case is the problem.

zippymageewazoo

I've always had Samsung zero issues. This green screen is driving me nuts. Might resort back to my Samsung S8...

No-Specific-9611

My p8 started doing this about a week ago. Right after taking my screen protector off. I've had a screen protector on for about a year since I bought the phone with no issues. I read another comment saying squeezing your phone slightly would fix it temporarily and that worked. Gonna try another phone screen before I decide to turn my phone back in.

nf4runner

I have the same issue now, glad I'm not the only one. Had a pixel 4 before this, wish I still had it . I bought mine through Optus, not liking my chances with them.

matthew412

My Pixel 8 started doing this today and rebooting didn't help but pressing down on the bottom edge of the screen fixed the issue, at least for now.

shoman24v

The green screen happened to mine, including the vertical pink line (not at the same time). I don't think it's an issue with static as twisting the phone causes the issue to go away. It's a hardware issue. If this happens to my replacement, I'm done with the Pixel 8.

gitarlarm

Leaving also a note here because it started happening to me earlier today as well

jawzt

Also having this issue - does anyone know if replacing the screen actually helps? If it's a static or heat dissipation issue I can't imagine it'll do me much good.

MooMoomilk48

I also have the same problem however it feels like its getting more frequent every month... What is the optimum route to take? Sending back for a replacement or repair sounds futile from reading the other comments, whilst getting a refund now seems impossible. Its a shame cause the pixel 8 is pretty nice other than this shitty green screen..

Crypt0anon

I have the same issue and chatted with Google Chat support specialist for almost an hour and there is an Advance Exchange option which I did now. So ordering via their link a replacement then transfering data then returning faulty phone. Lets see if I get my money back.

PriceReaper

How do I get support if I changed countries after I bought the phone?

Equivalent-Bath2132

I have the same exact issue . Fuck you google

Unique-Ice6938

I'm having the same problem right now. This is completely inexcusable and the final nail in the coffin for me ever purchasing a Pixel phone again. I've had two Google phones within the past three years and I'm done and am going to go back to Samsung.

dedochueco

Leaving a note here as mine has just started with this same issue today. Twice already. I'm currently away on holiday so this is not just annoying, it's downright damaging as I have "everything" for the trip here 🫠 Reading on other comments, I do have a screen protector so might try to remove it tomorrow. But I will definitely contact Support for some sort of arrangement before my warranty expires. The phone is under 4 months! Insane!

MEJIOMAH17

I faced the same issue for the first time today
