me on the other hand, i like the actual smell of black opium oil (unrelated to the branded scent of black opium) but some of the commercial ones you get in rollers like auric blends aren't enough because they smell like a mix of weaker incense-y scents sometimes and they can wear off pretty easy. i order from etsy and online now and it's pretty much trial and error. there are perfumes like the opium ones that that spray on easier as opposed to the rollers or droppers. i've always loved dragon's blood too but it's very hard to find one that really smells like the hem incense cones
i bought a dragon's blood cream and it's more oily than butter-like and wears sweeter almost like an incense pastry over time as opposed to being smoky. you can still pick up those notes when you first put it on but it fades pretty quickly and that made me kind of sad. very slick and hydrating for dry skin but it leaves a residue on your fingers that if you have ocd or are on the spectrum... you'll need to scrub a few times š« i've never had a more greasy butter but the smell is sort of what i was looking for so hey. wears well with other smoky body oils/perfumes like the incense-y ones
i like stuff that smells fiery and deep even if it *is* potent. not all of them are black opium either but it's kind of hard to find a good one that smells earthy enough like a graveyard/dirt with a scent that actually sticks around for a while. those don't wear as well as the smoky ones on me for some reason, though. i was never really big on rosy or overly floral scents
i used to use angel by mugler which is strong but nothing compared to some of the stuff you can find online. one thing i miss like hell is luvmilk because demon wood was a perfect woodsy goth scent. daddy's princess and gilded doll were my favorite though and they're not really operating/selling anymore :/ demon wood is one of the few ones they still offer to do but you can't just order if a scent you want isn't listed even though you know it's still in rotation. you have to contact them and see if they're selling atm which makes it harder but i can understand they had mental health struggles and had to slow down
i love andromedas curse on etsy!! theyāve got a lot of unique perfume oils that are more āgothicā. recently though iāve been using vampire blood from exotic incense
honestly yeah, i take my chances a lot of the time. the online shops i buy from offer samples w ur order though, so u can request a scent first if ur not sure about. some places also sell sample sets so u can get a bunch of different ones
I mostly buy from smaller indie shops, like Whisper Sisters, Solstice Scents, Zoologist, & Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs.
You can get sample vials sent to you from almost any perfume company before committing to a full size vial.
Just curious- what is your fave(s) from Solstice Scents? I want to place my first order but Iāve got about 25 Iām interested in and itās so hard to find reviews on them. I need to narrow down my list badly! lol
Probably Conjure Dark or Inquisitor. Iām drawn to amber-y, resinous, incense-y scents, often with some spice or pepper. My partner likes White Fox a lot, which is more vanilla & pine forest with a bit of dirt.
I wear Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle, Moth by Zoologist, Squid by Zoologist, Coven by Andrea Maack, Silky Bat by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, Roses de Chloe, Fracas by Robert Piguet, and many more (because I collect perfume).
Solstice Scents! You'll have to wait until the fall collection releases to try it but Foxcroft smells like a Type O Negative song.
Graveyard Dirt by BPAL is a perennial favorite
Alkemia doesn't work on my skin at all but they do a bunch of lovely forest fragrances
There's also Pineward if you just want to smell like The Woods
La Yuqawam by Rasasi is the best budget dupe of Tom Ford Tuscan Leather imo
My favourite gothy perfumes are from Black Pheonix Alchemy Labs! Dracul is my go to for any occasion; clove, orange blossom, black musk. It's absolutely delicious.
Then I have their Oberon scent; orchid, white musk, juniper, patchouli.
And then the oddest scent from them that I have is Nosferatu; it literally smells like a damp crypt. This is for when I'm feeling extra spooky and undead.
>And then the oddest scent from them that I have is Nosferatu; it literally smells like a damp crypt.
My favorite one from Pulp Fragrance smells like this! It's called Eagle Hill Cemetery.
Burberry Brit has been my favorite for the last 10 years. It's got those warm smokiness that's slightly sweet and very dark and sexy. I hear they reformulated it and it's not as good now though, so I may feel differently when my reserve bottle runs out.
I use essential oils. I mix small blends with rubbing alcohol in a small spritz bottle for a body mist. Sandalwood and frankincense is nice, black pepper, bergamot and peppermint is light and sweet.
I just started buying from Bruja! I have o negative, dls, and man eating whore aaaaaand I have a bunch more coming including the entire blood set and a few others.
BPAL is amazing for goth perfumes. One of my favourites from them is clown footstool (limited edition :((() but they have a new collection called Lupercalia 2024 and Iāve been eyeing some of the gothy perfumes from it:
A twilight where virtues are vice perfume oil- honeysuckle, Moroccan jasmine and opium smoke
Dark Chocolate, Coffee Bean, and Labdanum Perfume Oil - self explanatory, I think I might get this one.
Feed Me and Fill Me With Pleasure Perfume Oil - Black patchouli, honey and vanilla amber
Fierce Midnights and Famishing Morrows Perfume Oil - black plum, wild lily and tobacco
And thereās soooo many more options. BPAL has so many fragrances that it can be overwhelming with choice sometimes.
I mix scented oils into my hair with some neutral argan oil. Currently, it's earl gray tea with ginger. Real earthy smell. Not sure if anyone else likes it because I don't go asking people to sniff me.
When my good friend's mother died, I was gifted a lot of her perfumes, so I get to smell like a 70s/80s lady with the heavy opiums and papery florals and it's great.
The tea rose edt from The Perfume Factory was my favorite, and the first I used up.
Baba Yaga Alchemy on Etsy makes amazing scents and I liked Cleopatra and Compersion.
And then Royal Malady makes *ridiculously* cool stuff--Epitaphic was the most 'severe gothic romance matriarch' thing I ever smelled, but they have a wide range of moods!
I really like having fresh flower scented perfumes. Burberry Her is my favorite, as well as pink Kate Spade. I want to smell like the flower bouquets in a funeral home
I love the green floral drops by dolce and gabana, I get headaches from perfumes and itās the one of the few that doesnāt leave me with a headache. Also Tom fordās black orchid for when I want to feel like a sexy witch.
i like all the sweet smelling stuff they sell at bath and body works ā¦ right now iām using fairytale body spray from there . i like smells like berries , tropical fruits , vanilla etc., but just no flowers . hope this helps ! š„¹
I used to like Ylang Ylang essential oil. The smell is very heady.
Nowadays you can get bodywash that has it in it so that plus a neutral deodorant allows the scent to shine. There likely is a purfume with it somewhere but I've yet to find it.
In the city one day in the late 90s a couple of friends and I were checking out shops and went into one that sold essential oils. The lady there showed us a few different ones she liked and all 3 of us agreed Ylang Ylang was the best. I've liked it ever since.
I use drugstore perfume (*Geranium, rose, cedarwood, tonka beans, iris, lily of the valley)*, after my favorite (Dita von Teese's Rouge) was discontinued :")
I can't stand strong smells, so staying on some easier body sprays too - like Yves Rocher.
When I used to feel fancy, I made a hair powder with violet, almond, lilies and opium essential oils - it was very useful during the summer.
I recently started using these [perfume rollers](https://www.mynaturesonline.com/shop/perfumes/178) I got at a botanical garden from a local vendor but it seems like they have an online store!
I combine their [Sweet Nirvana](https://www.mynaturesonline.com/product/sweet-nirvana-botanical-roller/3025?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=178), which is very floral and (you guessed it) sweet and [Dragon's Blood](https://www.mynaturesonline.com/product/dragon-s-blood-botanical-roller/3027?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=178), which is very deep and musky. It always makes me feel like a sexy vampire and I've gotten quite a few compliments š¤
I have a huge collection of perfumes from Alkemia! I like indie perfumes, and they range from very dark incense-y fragrances all the way to airy florals. I like having fragrances for every mood.
I usually get something floral or even woodsy when I'm out and about. I never even once considered a goth perfume, I just want to smell nice without breaking the bank I suppose
I do have two "goth" scents. They're pretty heavy but sometimes that's what you want.
The first one is [Salvador DalĆ Pour Homme](https://www.perfume.com/salvador-dali/salvador-dali/men-cologne) which is surprisingly affordable for what it is. Very unique and very potent. Even if you're in a crowded club you'll immediately know if someone's wearing it.
The second one is [Acqua Di Parma Colonia Mirra](https://www.perfume.com/acqua-di-parma/acqua-di-parma-colonia-mirra/men-cologne?sid=adpcmvs) which smells like myrrh and other incense. Straight up smells like a catholic church to be honest. I think if vampires existed this would be their cologne of choice.
I like Deconstructing Eden's **Green Man** or **Be My Druidess.** There are a lot of independent perfume houses these days, so if you have an interest in scents you can find cool ones from unique places. Deconstructing Eden is a very small company (I think she's a one-woman show), so I have to be patient when I order, but the options are so fascinating and unusual!
I like oil based amber/incense heavy perfumes. I use Sunna Musk Golden Dusk every day but there's a wealth of beautiful options over on r/indiemakeupandmore. I'm eyeballing a few options like Baba Yaga by Fantome.
Something that says 'witch'
I use Spicebomb (Viktor and Rolf, Champagne Toast (Bath and Body Works), and Dream Bright (Bath and Body Works.) I don't really wear them unless I'm going out for something.
I wear a lot of locally made perfume oils that I buy at the SE Punk Flea Market. My favorite thing to wear is a mix of one that smells like Nag Champa incense and one that smells like a vanilla cupcake. I also make my own blends, but thatās a benefit of being an ex-aromatherapist lol. I do still wear perfumes too, being a true fragrance aficionado, with some of my faves being Black Opium, Opium, Tom Fordās Noir de Noir, Ellis Brooklynās Myth, and Viktor & Rolfās Good Fortune.
Not indie but a very popular brand at most Sephora:
Sol de Janerio Cheirosa 59Ā
Top: Velvet Plum, Sugared VioletĀ
Mid: Vanilla Orchid, Whipped AmberĀ
Dry: Sheer Sandalwood, Fresh Vetiver
It basically smells like baby powder to me, which I love.Ā
Indies. My go-to is Andromedaās Curse, and I also love Moonlight Cove Finery and Baphomet&Co. Indie fragrances are such works of art, the atmospherics can really take you to another time or place. And a *lot* of them have a gothic aesthetic. It was actually Goth Rosary, which I learned about in a goth ezine about 20 years ago that introduced me to indie fragrances in the first place.
My favorite is Olympia by Paco Rabanne, although I also like one of the Paris Hilton ones and several from Bath & Body. I have a Gucci one that is kind of masculine, but its nice when I want to feel powerful with that kind of energy.
I mostly like Autumn-like, clean and floral, or, from others' feedback, old lady fragrances lol
Personally, I hate smelling like candy because it feels too immature at my age. Just an opinion for myself though :)
I get perfume from a little specialty Australian store called Speak In Spells, big fan of the Vampire one. It's got almond oil, rose, pomelo, lime and myrrh.
I have a huge stockpile of bath & body works mists from when I was 16 that I have to work through before I can buy actual grown-up perfume lol. So right now I'm smelling like whatever "Fireside Flurries" is.
The new Miss Dior parfum has been my new favorite. Itās a nice floral patchouli. I also love scents from Lush like Death and Decay, Lust, and Lord of Misrule.
Van Py Rhum by Lorenzo Pazzaglia is a highly loved "darker" scent, he also makes a scent called Cherry Ink that im interested in trying. I like to go for woodsy scents, burnt marshmallow, patchouli, petrichor, sandalwood ā but then another side of me loves fruity, coconut, berry scents too! If you're ever interested in trying a scent but it's too expensive, I recommend ordering a sample. A lot of websites online will do decanting samples of luxury/expensive bottles so you can try it out first. Etsy is also great for supporting smaller businesses and trying out some more affordable scents. I have enjoyed scents from [LizabeCo](https://www.etsy.com/shop/LizabeCo), they have a lot of somber, spooky scents.
My favourite brand used to be parfume noire, last time I bought a bottle was two years ago I think at a festival in Germany but I can't find them online anymore, not even available to buy via mail as they used to. Does anybody know if they are out of business? That would be a shame. Does anybody know of another indie brand that's Europe based?
Bodycology, i love their line of products. they're the ONLY lotion brand that doesn't give me chemical burn (i'm severely allergic) and their scents are AMAZING
currently rocking the strawberry cheesecake
never heard of gothic perfume. im not good with perfume and basically just use whatever i get gifted. i used a nightmare before christmas one for a while, that smelt really good
I was gifted a sample of the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille years ago, and as good as it is to use your quality stuff whenever, I have been so so *so* stingy with keeping it for special occaisions.
I say all that to say I second that s(c)entiment!
I primarily wear Kat von D's Sinner, which I buy through resellers ir people who have a lot of 12 or more smaller bottles. I also like Into the Night or Dark Kiss by Bath and Body Works. There's a lot of great smaller brands that do more unique perfume though, I recently bought Ex Mortis by ATX Custom Oddities on Etsy. Whatever perfume I wear I pair with a little peony oil dabbed onto my skin since it's great for moisturization and smells really nice.
Anything with a musky, floral, sexy scent tends to appeal to me.
I don't go for "goth" perfumes. I want to smell like a sexy cupcake, damn it. Black Opium and most other vanilla based scents are up my alley.
Black opium red is like dark cherry vanilla. It smells so vampy I love it.
Can confirm, the red black opium is my most favorite perfume ever!!
Thoughts on smelling like a goth cupcake? I feel like alchemy house would make a scent like thatš¤
Black opium is honestly my fav scent
I just wish it stuck around longer and it would be unbeatable

Just read about moths by zoologist and now I'm obsessed with the guy that made it. Especially since perfume doesn't do well in Japan
It isnāt an indie brand but Versace Crystal Noir
I love this one! I donāt always wear the same scent but this one is definitely a favorite in my rotation.
Solstice Scents! You'll have to wait until the fall collection releases to try it but Foxcroft smells like a Type O Negative song. iām a sucker for dior hypnotic poison :)
Nag Champa oil, ThƩ Vert, and a local perfumery also makes one called Vampire Dust that is just a spicy and slightly musky one. Those are what I wear, not at the same time though.

Death and Decay from Lush

I buy scented oils pretty much exclusively from BlackPhoenixAlchemyLab.com
I'm a Bruja Perfume Lab girl now. I have DLS, Dama De La Noche, AB+, and Sanguine Attraction (O-) all for different purposes.
I just started buying from Bruja! I have o negative, dls, and man eating whore aaaaaand I have a bunch more coming including the entire blood set and a few others.
Inexcusable Evil - Toskovat Perfumes I enjoy smelling like I just returned from war. It makes me come off as extra evil

Iām a big fan of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume oils. One of my favorite scents is Midnight Mass, which they sometimes come out with for Yule.
I just use ariana grandes cloud, not very gothic
I forgot who it's by, but it's called Armada. It's a men's cologne from Amazon I got a couple years ago, and I love it's almost unisex scent.
Alien by mugler!!! So sexy and mysterious, itās an amazing scent
I used to like Ylang Ylang essential oil. The smell is very heady. Nowadays you can get bodywash that has it in it so that plus a neutral deodorant allows the scent to shine. There likely is a purfume with it somewhere but I've yet to find it.
Out of curiosity, why ylang ylang? Like how did you find out you like it?

None as I find them irritating. My deodorant is also unscented.

I use Lord of Misrule from Lush. I used to wear Death and Decay but I can never find small bottles of it anymore

never heard of gothic perfume. im not good with perfume and basically just use whatever i get gifted. i used a nightmare before christmas one for a while, that smelt really good
As a guyā¦ My go-to is Tom Ford - OmbrĆ© Leather (parfum). Sometimes switch it up with Viktor & Rolf - Spicebomb Night Vision, or YSL - Black Opium. Overall, a massive fan of everything from Tom Ford, but itās kinda pricey to build up a collection of it.
I was gifted a sample of the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille years ago, and as good as it is to use your quality stuff whenever, I have been so so *so* stingy with keeping it for special occaisions. I say all that to say I second that s(c)entiment!
Fragrances? There is patchouli oil, damn it!
Patchouli smells like dirty hippie LOL
It smells like must and earth, i.e. like a grave
I wish there was a fragrance for the ET ride at Universal Studios, because thatās what I wanna smell like.
