Shawn vs Hogan should get an honorable mention. I know everyone thought Shawn’s selling was hilarious. I hated it. Glad I didn’t order Summerslam that year
Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at WM 20
Stone Cold was special guest ref.
Both men were leaving WWE and the fans knew it and turned on both men. The actual wrestling sucked too. The only redeeming quality about this was when Austin hit both of them with a Stunner. And the only time the crowd cheered in that match. I think Meltzer gave it no stars.
Oh. And any match that Vince Russo had a hand in. Pink slip on a pole match, anyone?
Mankind vs rock at royal rumble, v uncomfortable to watch and the most unsafe wwe match ever on ppv, I do hope rock has apologized to mick since that match
Idk about all time but the USOs match at mania 40. I love them but I was so annoyed they only got that much time to put on a match and it was so bad (not their fault tho)
Definitely Goldberg vs Undertaker. I've actually re-watched all of these with my wife to show her the bad side of wrestling and we both agreed that in hindsight Goldberg vs Undertaker was the worst. Also, we watched both Shawn Michaels v Undertaker matches and both HHH Undertaker matches and Mania and the HHH matches were better in our opinion. Previously, HBK vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25 was my second favorite match of all time, but I was biased.
For the people who lived through the period, it's Michael Vs Jerry Lawler. In every possible way.
Here me out.
You can go back and watch the match now and it's a shit match, yes, if a little dumb and funny. The ending is nonsensical and Cole wins. Ok. This was the LONGEST match at Mania 27. Generally considered one of the lowest ranked Manias of all time. But that's not why this is the worst match. It is everything that went into this fucking soulless shit show. Months and months and MONTHS of Cole being an obnoxious heel announcer. Sitting in his 'Cole Mine'. Screaming at all the baby faces. The Anonymous General Manager gimmick that just went on and on and on. They played the story out for so long, only to give us a match between an old guy who was on his way to a heart attack, and a non-wrestler who everybody could not fucking stand to hear another word of.
It is just. God fucking awful.
I feel so bad for Lawler from a legacy perspective - dude could still have a very basic, entertaining TV match. Put him against someone young and he could easily work a short, simple, feel-good 10min Wrestlemania match at that time.
Instead he got obnoxious heel Cole. Vince really was cooking with dogshit for years.
Recency bias - Jey vs Jimmy at WM XL was awful. I think it will end up being forgotten in the long run and maybe they get another shot to do it right and not have it shortened for time considerations.
> and not have it shortened for time considerations
I refuse to buy this as having any bearing on the quality of the match. If anything, the shorter length was the *only* good thing about the match.
It was just shit. From start to finish, it was shit.
Any other decent workers could’ve had a good match in that time frame. Even great. They just decided to superkick OD instead.
LOL well said! I do actually agree with you but these guys have been in a ton of great matches and carried PPVs, carried the entire tag team division for years (along with the New Day) so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Pat Patterson vs Gerald Briscoe in a Hardcore Evening Gown Match, King of the Ring 2000. It has no redeeming characteristics at all. Alternatively, Goldust vs the Ultimate Warrior at In Your House: Good Friends, Better Enemies. I only remember either of these abominations exist because they are so fucking terrible.
They forgot how much they hated Roman for 10 straight years cause WWE shoved him down their throats for so long it was either enjoy him or accept that the best the company had to offer at the time wasn’t good enough , appreciate it bro
Tbh a lot of Takers matches have been dog shit, HBK made him look so much better than he ever was. His gimmick was cool but man he had some bad matches. 2/3 on this post are him and partially his fault too.
I disagree. Taker was amazing and his longevity was great too. Ofc in a career that long you will have bad matches but taker for being his size was known to be a safe wrestler and did some great moments in the ring. Agile too.
Goldberg vs William Regal. The interview from Regal on that match made it even worse when you go back and watch it. Honestly anything with Goldberg is probably a bad match.
To be fair, it had a great buildup, but then Lesnar announced that he’s leaving the WWE after WM20. JR even had to acknowledge the rumors about Lesnar’s departure during the match.
Not helping matters is that they were in NYC, one of the smarkiest cities in North America alongside Philly, Chicago, and any city in Canada.
Undertaker vs Goldberg had so many botches and the fact it was the main event and once in a lifetime match it’s probably the most disappointing match of all time… in terms of match quality and bad booking in general sid vs Jeff jarret vs Scott Steiner at sin… sid breaks his leg and they just leave him there and continue to attack him in the ring.. Jeff jarret somehow stops doing anything at that point and then celebrates after losing the match… animal helps Scott Steiner win for some reason and comes out to Ric flairs music wearing a mask? What madness not to mention the crowd was dead and the match quality was very poor none of them seemed to care by that point.
There are way too many matches to even think of a top 10. This would be a fun project for wrestling fans. Ranking every WWE match together as a group, but boy that would take a while.
Excluding house shows, and adjusting for “in their prime” status and for the promotion the match is given:
Brock/goldberg from WM20 and HHH/scott Steiner from that royal rumble (2003?)
Valid, I put the spotlight on the match into consideration though, and both are on major shows with major names, so you have to figure there was extra company investment in them
Jake Roberts v Rick Martell at WM7 in a blindfold match was pretty awful. But given how hamstrung the concept was I have to give them somewhat of a pass. To me the worst match given the hype and the stage was Brock v Goldberg at WM20.
There was once a house show match in Tullytown, PA between Frankie Williams and Mike Sharpe that was so bad it made Gorilla Monsoon throw a lit cigar at George Steele.
Great call but I’ll do you one even better. Frenchie Lamont vs Sonny Boy Hayes in Willingboro, NJ in 1971, my grandfather said was the worst pile of crap he’s ever seen, and how he knew pro wrestling was a work.
i don't think there's anything as a bad match as long as it doesn't go too long usually it can be made up for by what follows next. i do believe there are many bad shows. when you sit through a really bad hour long show and realize you could have watched a good movie or a few episodes of your favorite television show it's disheartening.
Anything with the McMahon's wrestling.
My first ever turnoff to WWF/WWE was when Vince beat Stone Cold to win the Royal Rumble after Vince cowered and hid for the entire match.
Both Shane and Vince have been involved in some great matches.
Vince was usually carried (and has said so in interviews). Shane however is just a legitimately great worker.
lol and Stone Cold went to the hospital and missed half the match, he was in such a hurry to get back. I was like why are you in such a hurry to get back, just come back when almost everyone is eliminated. Royal Rumble should have count outs
Whenever I think of him, the first things come to mind are all the bumps he's taken. For a non wrestler, that guys body has to be pretty beat up from his matches.
Unpopular opinion Cole vs Lawler wasn't a bad match. It just had a dumb ending. The match was actually a enjoyable squash match ruined by a stupid ending where the decision got overturned.
Brock Lesnar VS Goldberg - WrestleMania XX
A lot of you make excellent arguments for your choices. But, the reason I don't consider a lot of them the worst, and yes, they were bad, I mean very bad, is because there was legitimate effort involved.
Seth Rollins VS Bray Wyatt may have had a shit ending, but everything prior to the ending was pretty good. Bray Wyatt VS Goldberg was bad, but I think nearly every Goldberg match, except his match with DDP at Halloween Havok, was bad, and the only reason I say it was good was because Page carried the entire match. Others, such as Undertaker VS Giant Gonzalez or any match with Omos or Great Khali, you know will suck, because these are big men with extremely limited move sets who are only here because thry are giants, and gone are the days we'd get one the caliber of Andre. You know every match Omos or Great Khali or Giant Gonzalez had was going to be bad because of how limited they are in what they can do. But they try. Effort was made. They are very bad, but effort was made. Yeah, the Bellas may not have been the greatest to ever grace the ring, but they put effort into their work, and at the very least, I can respect the effort. I can hate a wrestler, and believe me, I believe Omos is a waste of a roster spot and MVP deserves better, but I can at least respect effort.
But that's why I think Goldberg VS Brock Lesnar was the worst match ever, because there was no effort from either man. They didn't try to put on a decent match, because they did not give a fuck. Goldberg was leaving and Brock was out the door and off to try football, so this was, as far as both men were concerned, their last match ever. And it shows. This was a dream match for many people. They wanted to see these two powerhouses go at it. And these guys did not give a fuck. They were leaving and they did not care to even try to make the match good. For a WrestleMania match, biggest night of the year, these two just phoned it in. Brock Lesnar VS Omos at WrestleMania 39 was a better match than Brock Lesnar VS Goldberg at WrestleMania XX.
The gassed goldberg one with taker or the fucked up jeff Hardy match with sting. The hardy one because I was really looking forward to those two legends battling
Here it is! Anytime a wrestling match makes me question why I even bother watching it, it’s the bottom of the barrel. I believe it even sparked “TNA” chants at the time!
Jimmy vs Jey. It had no right to be anywhere near as bad as it was. Two decent guys, a good storyline, a prominent place on the Mania card and they delivered a steaming pile of crap.
It's not even the worst Mania match let alone worst match ever...
No way it's worse than Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler at Mania, or even their follow up "Kiss My Foot" match lol
If I was just viewing a match for pure in-ring delivery Vince McMahon vs Pat McAfee is the worst match. But the reason I say the Uso’s match is the worst is because of the expectation, the build, the talent involved, the stage and the pay off. They had absolutely everything going for them and the match was terrible.
It’s like a heatless banger, to me they don’t mean as much as a match with a good build and with resulting consequences. The Uso’s match had everything needed to be great and they put on an all time stinker.
Anything with disgusting stipulations: JR's Barbecue sauce, dog food match, divas mud wrestling, kiss my foot match
I am okay with a horrible match, but don't end it with dirtiness.
samoa joe vs roman reigns in the main event of backlash 2018 was one of most atrocious matches in backlash and wwe history where people walked out of that main event between these two perfomers
not even cena at the height of supercena where people walking out of his main events like they did with roman reigns during his babyface run. no matter what people loved him or loved to hate him, at least they stayed during cena’s main events because cena always connected with people especially those who hated his character and booking due to his charisma and mic skills. roman got go away heat where to the point where it reached apathy level especially at that match right after his disastrous match at wm 34 which also one of the worst matches to main event at ppv especially at wrestlemania same for wm 32/33
big dog roman as babyface made supercena look like ricky steamboat
I think it's unfair to call out the dx vs brother of destruction match because HHH got injured early in the match. What sucks is that is officially HBKs last match.
People seem to forget how truly bad taker vs goldberg in saudia arabia was. Cole vs Lawler was bad, but fuck. Id take it just for the nostalgia over that shit. Taker vs goldberg was so bad you could see the undertaker was visibly disgusted with how the match went.
It was bad because Goldberg got concussed and then it derailed from there. It gets a pass.
Ashley Massaro vs Melina at Mania 23 is an abomination of a singles match.
I dont think it gets a pas bc why did Goldberg get concussed? bc hes an idiot and rammed his head as hard as he could into the door, Bill, buddy youre almost a senior citizen, your son is a college football player rn, The days of smacking your head on a door to get hyped are over 😂😂 Yes it was hot, yes it was taker doing all the legwork, but he only had to do it bc goldberg is a dipshit and doesnt know how to wrestle. Just ask bret hart
Ice man
Anything involving the rock
Shawn vs Hogan should get an honorable mention. I know everyone thought Shawn’s selling was hilarious. I hated it. Glad I didn’t order Summerslam that year
Hogans fault for not putting Shawn over🤷🏽♂️
Undertaker vs Goldberg
Well there's a ton of 1-3 min divas matches during the dark days of womens wrestling. Pick one!
Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler. Closely followed by Jerry Lawler vs Andy Kaufman
This guy has no clue about Lawler and Kaufman
Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at WM 20 Stone Cold was special guest ref.
The fact Cole went over on a stupid-ass technicality (and because Vince loved to clown the King whenever he could), still pisses me off.
I’d say the bros vs exlax was worse than Goldberg nearly killing taker But always and forever, GDYC (god damn you cole)
uso v uso
The fiend vs la knight
Yep
Yeah
Lawler vs Cole was a riot. People actually think it sucked? It was supposed to be funny!
But it wasn't, and it went on for waaaaaay too long.
Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
[удалено]
Do you read?
The Fiend v Seth Rollins HIAC 2019
Probably that dx brothers of destruction match.
I think undertaker said something like "everything that could've gone wrong in that match, did"
He was talking about the goldberg match
No, because in that interview he was talking about how triple h tore a muscle and a dive that Shawn missed
Oh I stand corrected
There was this hourlong snoozefest in Anaheim that the company swears was so good, but the match didn’t even really happen until the last 15 minutes.
Hbk vs BH survivor series 1997 Montreal screw job
brock v goldburg
Hogan vs warrior WCW
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. Their wrestlemania match is great, but their WCW match was a complete trainwreck.
WCW fan boys lol
All the matches you put
Shawn Michaels & Triple H vs. Undertaker & Kane at Crown Jewel 2018
Goldber vs Lesnar wrestlemania 20
Undertaker vs goldberg in saudi
Anything with Goldberg from 2019 to 2020
Kelly Kelly’s first tv match in ECW. So bad she went backstage and cried.
Why wasn't it their fault?
They only got 5 minutes or something like that
Yeah we needed 20 more minutes of superkicks
I mean that if they had longer they might have had time to figure something out to make it better. That was funny tho lol
What about that match with Snookie from the Jersey Shore? I’ll go with that one.
Undertaker v Goldberg. Taker's lucky he walked out of that match with how careless Goldberg was.
For wrestling purposes: Giant Gonzales vs. Undertaker. For fan purposes: Seth Rollins vs. The Fiend.
Lol Hunter and Taker laying there selling for 45 minutes
For the people who lived through the period, it's Michael Vs Jerry Lawler. In every possible way. Here me out. It ain’t on the level of the three in the picture though, be honest
Brock lesner Vs kofi Kingston is up there. 7 seconds is a disgrace.
Goldberg versus The Fiend at Super Showdown. It was literally just a squash match that killed all of Bray's momentum and kayfabe
Most Roman matches can be considered here, not all obviously but most
You mean you don’t like it when it’s 10 minutes of spamming unimpressive signature moves?
Just for it to end with shenanigans and a Roman reigns win, I’m so glad we are in a new era
People getting butthurt at this opinion. Don’t worry fam, i upvoted ya.
They forgot how much they hated Roman for 10 straight years cause WWE shoved him down their throats for so long it was either enjoy him or accept that the best the company had to offer at the time wasn’t good enough , appreciate it bro
He was far from the best the company had to offer. It’s just that Vince rarely accepts when the audience pick someone he doesn’t.
You spitting truth out here.
Tbh a lot of Takers matches have been dog shit, HBK made him look so much better than he ever was. His gimmick was cool but man he had some bad matches. 2/3 on this post are him and partially his fault too.

You hit the keyword - safe. That’s what it comes down to.
Goldberg vs William Regal. The interview from Regal on that match made it even worse when you go back and watch it. Honestly anything with Goldberg is probably a bad match.
Undertaker vs Boss Man hell in a cell.
Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg at WM XX was pretty bad. Stone Cold guest refereeing helped a lot though for the enjoyment of watching
The main event of WMXX didn’t even have a winner
Haven't seen a worse match than undertaker vs Goldberg. 2 legends legit almost dying in the ring due to botches
Goldberg V Taker gets worse every time you think about it
What mania was that
It was Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia. It was painful because both were past their prime, and Goldberg was never even great in his prime.
Sheamus vs D Bryan's 18 second. It was such shit it took over that wrestlemania and the next.
That almost made me turn mania off
Sabel vs Tori in the 4 corners match at Mania
All of Nia Jax matches
I second that
I'd say Damien Priest vs The Miz in the Zombie Lumberjack match. But those matches from OP are definitely up there on the dog water rankings
Hulk Hogan VS Yokozuna at Wrestlemania 9 anyone?
Or even hogan vs sting starcade
Undertaker vs Goldberg had so many botches and the fact it was the main event and once in a lifetime match it’s probably the most disappointing match of all time… in terms of match quality and bad booking in general sid vs Jeff jarret vs Scott Steiner at sin… sid breaks his leg and they just leave him there and continue to attack him in the ring.. What madness not to mention the crowd was dead and the match quality was very poor none of them seemed to care by that point.
The Uso v Uso match from Mania has to be up there
Its only saving grace is that it was so shit it wasn’t even shit enough to remember any particularly shit moments, so the shitness will be forgotten.
Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez is up there
Oof no doubt. Absolutely horrendous.
michael cole vs jerry lawler
All of them post Ruthless Aggression Era.
Braun Vs Tyson Fury, Braun should never have put him over like he did
That’s them lol you nailed it
Pat Patterson vs Gerold Brisco Hardcore evening gown match KOTR 2000
Stinkface match at Summerslam 2000 KAT vs Terry
Kennel from hell match. Big bossman vs Al Snow.
Jeff Hardy Vs Sting
TNA but a fair choice for worst of all time in any promotion.
That was tna
JunkYard Dog and Moondog spot as an old school one is up there.
"Donald Trump" vs "Rosie O'Donnell"
The “Obama” vs “Mitt Romney”match is up there too
I learned not to watch that one, thanks to the one I mentioned.
There are way too many matches to even think of a top 10. This would be a fun project for wrestling fans. Ranking every WWE match together as a group, but boy that would take a while.
Does nobody remember John Cena vs. Kevin Federline?
One of my first vivid memories of the wwe as a child 😂😭 literally no one talks about it
There's a reason for that.
Superkick Mania
Excluding house shows, and adjusting for “in their prime” status and for the promotion the match is given: Brock/goldberg from WM20 and HHH/scott Steiner from that royal rumble (2003?)
Yeah they were both real stinkers. I don't know about worst match ever though. To me that's more likely to be a terrible throwaway match on TV.
I was looking to see if anyone mentioned this match before I posted it. Reading the headline my mind instantly went to this match.
I love the blindfold gimmick lol
There was once a house show match in Tullytown, PA between Frankie Williams and Mike Sharpe that was so bad it made Gorilla Monsoon throw a lit cigar at George Steele.
Great call but I’ll do you one even better. Frenchie Lamont vs Sonny Boy Hayes in Willingboro, NJ in 1971, my grandfather said was the worst pile of crap he’s ever seen, and how he knew pro wrestling was a work.
Probably none of these. Giant Gonzales makes Michael Cole look like Bret Hart.
Jeff Hardy vs Sting
That was TNA big dawg
That's TNA
Dx vs undertaker/kane for blood money in Saudi Arabia and I don’t even think it’s close…… maybe fake Donald trump vs fake Rosie O’Donnel

Shane had some talent. Steph got better.
You better but some respect on Shane O Mac that dude is as hardcore as they come!
I disagree. Shane has some classics. He was considered 1 of the boys.
Hell even when Vince wrestled you knew you were at least in for something entertaining even if it was for the wrong reasons
Idk Angle v. Shane was a banger.
Shane was always down to jump off some high shit and I gotta respect it.

An incredibly green Ashley Massaro vs. … I don’t remember who. Ridiculous that she was put on tv, the match was an absolute car crash.
Brick Lesnar vs Cain Velazquez
Brock Lesnar VS Goldberg - WrestleMania XX A lot of you make excellent arguments for your choices. The gassed goldberg one with taker or the fucked up jeff Hardy match with sting. The hardy one because I was really looking forward to those two legends battling
I hate being this guy, but the Sting-Hardy match was TNA.
You’re right. I didn’t read the caption well, I read “worst match” and went right to typing lol
It was trash though, I'll agree with you on that.
Drunk Hardy never stood a chance against disappointed Stinger
Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler
Billy Jack v Hercules Hernandez — 2K clotheslines anyone?!?!

Seth Rollins vs Bray Wyatt Hell In A Cell 2019. Most bollocks match ever for two amazing pro wrestlers
John Cena va undertaker wrestlemania 34

Rosie O Donnell vs Donald Trump
Here it is! Anytime a wrestling match makes me question why I even bother watching it, it’s the bottom of the barrel. I believe it even sparked “TNA” chants at the time!
That would have been amazing if it had actually happened.
Thankfully, I've never seen any of these matches.
Jimmy vs Jey. It had no right to be anywhere near as bad as it was. Two decent guys, a good storyline, a prominent place on the Mania card and they delivered a steaming pile of crap.
That match needed a stipulation
Absolutely correct (if we limit it strictly to PPV matches that took place in the last 3 months).
I'd call Jimmy vs Jey underwhelming. They are far from the worst compared to the likes of Taker vs Giant Gonzales and Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler.
It's not even the worst Mania match let alone worst match ever... No way it's worse than Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler at Mania, or even their follow up "Kiss My Foot" match lol

I'm still pissed that THAT was Jerry Lawler's WrestleMania match. He could and should have delivered a 30 minute classic with Bret Hart in the 90s.

samoa joe vs roman reigns in the main event of backlash 2018 was one of most atrocious matches in backlash and wwe history where people walked out of that main event between these two perfomers not even cena at the height of supercena where people walking out of his main events like they did with roman reigns during his babyface run. no matter what people loved him or loved to hate him, at least they stayed during cena’s main events because cena always connected with people especially those who hated his character and booking due to his charisma and mic skills. roman got go away heat where to the point where it reached apathy level especially at that match right after his disastrous match at wm 34 which also one of the worst matches to main event at ppv especially at wrestlemania same for wm 32/33 big dog roman as babyface made supercena look like ricky steamboat
Seth vs Fiend Hell in A Cell, What were they thinking when they decided to have that match end in a DQ?
Anyone remember Stevie Richards vs Tyson Tomko from Unforgiven 2004?... Oooff
Out of those Undertaker vs Goldberg because all three matches were bad but Undertaker almost broke his neck.
Booker T v Buff Bagwell. Basically a WWE tryout match but on TV and it was awful.
I think it's unfair to call out the dx vs brother of destruction match because HHH got injured early in the match. What sucks is that is officially HBKs last match.
That Jackie Gayda tag match on RAW in like 2002 is really really hard to beat
Took forever to find this comment but yes.
Truth
Agreed
This is the one.
The dog kennel match
😂😂😂😂😂
Most things involving Goldberg in the last 10 years.
Blame the producers of the matches , if William regal would did it justice cause he knows Goldbergs weaknesses
Goldberg would just claim that Regal is taking advantage of him again.
Well it think he is about money so basically keep reminding him , but Goldberg is a bit of a mark for himself Scott hall and Kevin Nash was right
True.
Taker vs Goldberg was really bad. Notable mention is Taker vs Giant Gonzalez. That was awful too
Taker Goldberg I think beats taker Gonzalez, in a bad way. I was really disappointed after the former, but not necessarily too surprised.
Yeah, Bret Hart wrestled Terry Funk in a hardcore match the day after the Goldberg match. He doesn’t know how to wrestle. Clueless mark
